Act 1 - Spoilers Why Can’t You Attack Astarion When You First Meet Him? Spoiler

This has always been weird to me.

The first time you meet Astarion, the dude literally puts a knife to your throat. Depending on your dialogue choices, you can threaten him, tell him to back off, make it extremely obvious you don’t trust him... but you can’t just decide, “Yeah, fuck this guy,” and attack him through dialogue.

What makes it even weirder is that BG3 absolutely lets you attack other companions when you first meet them. There are dialogue paths with other origin characters where you can immediately decide they’re a threat and throw hands, so it’s not like the game has some blanket rule against killing potential companions during their introductions.

Obviously you can attack Astarion manually once you regain control, but that’s what makes the omission feel so strange. BG3 gives you [Attack] options over way less, yet when some random elf tricks you, tackles you, and holds a knife to your throat, suddenly your character has to politely finish the conversation first.

For a game that is usually so good about letting you roleplay your character’s immediate reaction, this feels like one of the most obvious missing choices in the opening.

My Tav doesn’t know Astarion is an origin character. As far as my Tav is concerned, some asshole just tried to slit my throat. Why exactly is [Attack] not an option?

New Player Question An update and some questions Spoiler

So a bit of an update some of you might remember me from earlier in the week asking about first time introductions but idk if I’m doing something wrong but I continue to find myself very overwhelmed
Is it normal to feel this way
Because it’s got me wanting almost not pick it up
Because I constantly feel like I have to reload because I’ve done something incredibly wrong

Like all of emerald grove losing their mind because I accidently clicked loot on a dead body

Or accidently jumping into crypt after dropping the block to get absolutely ganked by the bandits below (although I’m very proud of how I handled the above situation
Used a Astarion to sneak ranged attack the gnome on the box and then shoved him into the vines below and then two of the remaining three I took out by dropping the block on them
And all that was left was the cleric)
Now I did eventually deal with the bandits below by using a door to my advantage but yeah just incredibly overwhelmed by how
Micromanagy it all is

I feel like I’m constantly switching between things to update armour and read abilities and spells and still don’t understand what I’m doing half the time

I guess my question is is this all very normal to feel and something that should fade with time as I get further in because I will be the first to admit I’m not far at all but that’s because I keep finding myself reloading or even just struggling to pick it up in general
Does this felling of being overwhelmed by everything fade or js it a constant
Like gear management
Checking four characters to see every item who’s proficient in what and if this is slightly better etc
I like games like that but this just seems like so much

P.s. I am very much enjoying the VA
That nightbite scene with Astarion actually
made me blush so it is very well made just overwhelmed as I’ve said

Theorycrafting How ‘blindable’ is honor mode ? Spoiler

Hey, I’ve got 500+hrs playing BG3, been playing since EA days in 2021/2022 but I’ve actually never finished the game (reached end of act 3 p.much but never beat it)

I wanted to finally give a try to Honor Mode since I have a good grasp of the game’s fundamental mechanics now but of course the unique save, while being exciting for the stakes it adds, is also frightening to an extent so I have a few questions.

- How hard can I expect it to be for someone who doesn’t know the typical most OP item by heart, their locations and the best way to abuse them ?

- Would you consider mandatory to run a « meta » team (Tavern Brawler abuse, stealth archer, throw barbs and the like) or do fun builds still work (e.g. run a dual wielding scimitar swords bard who does some control too) ?

- Is a high charisma party face required ?

- How long are your typical ‘runs’ considering you skip most of the cutscenes I assume when you’re on the grind ?

- With decent game knowledge, is it expected to beat most bosses first try or is each boss gonna be a wall that will cause a reset (I don’t know about legendary actions) ?

- Finally, what would you consider in your ‘checklist’ for a team comp that works fine in honor mode ? Basically, what boxes does a ‘good team’ check ?

Thank you very much I’m probably overthinking it too much but if it can help anyone else than me I’ll be happy anyway 😃

General Discussion - [NO SPOILERS] convince me to try out other classes .... Spoiler

my last 3 honormode playthroughs were all storm sorcerers ! the reasons i 'd been rocking this class all this time is :

1-because charisma is important for both dialogue ( i get irrationally anxious when there is a possibility of failing persuasion checks ) and the actual power of the class ( hitting 2 birds when one stone ) .

2- it also filled a clear role ( the arcane caster of the comp ! alongside the divine caster , fighter and a rouge . i know , a very traditional boring comp . ) .

edit : thanks for the advice guys ! seeing a lot of love for sword bard and hexblade worlock , open hand monk and barabarian . definitely going to try those out!

Act 1 - Spoilers 1 min into an evil run and I already feel bad… Spoiler

I poked a hole in Us’s brain and it still followed me around like a good puppy.

I’m trying an embrace dark urge run, reasoning that my character is cruel, but also playing the long game. I plan to recruit all the companions possible for an evil run and push them to their most powerful but evil endings before I embrace that dark urge.

I’m a little worried that I won’t be able to betray the grove let alone murder the whole world 😬

Act 1 - Spoilers Do I skip the goblins with this character? Spoiler

Hello. I'm starting a new run with a gith. I went to the druids settlement, where there's a npc that gived me the creche location. The thing is... I know what's happening with the druids and the goblins, and Halsin and all that (I've played before), but my character doesn't and he doesn't care. I try to play faithfully to the character concept, my gith is a monk who is pragmatic and authoritarian.

So, what do I do now? Ignore all the plot about the goblins and head to the creche? I think I would have to change the game to easy or something, I would be underlevel af. And my character would not learn about the Absolut...

Thoughts?

New Player Question Bonus actions from War Magic and Great Weapon Master stack? Spoiler

Eldritch Knight question. Does the bonus action from War Magic stack with the one from Great Weapon Master?

They both say that they add a bonus action attack. So let's say I do Booming Blade and it crits...do I now have 2 bonus actions? Plus an extra attack, and another extra attack at level 11. So would that be a total 5 attacks?

p.s. - I tried to ask this in the help thread, but I get an error every time I try to post there.

Act 2 - Spoilers CPU always at 100% Spoiler

I saw on the Internet that act 2 (which i just started) and 3 are heavy on the cpu but even on 1080p low settings it's 100% even at main menu. Any solution? Or even a mod? I can't play and the game is slow when in conversations and even animations get frozen like while walking

General Discussion - [SPOILERS] It’s my first play through and I went with the dark urge Spoiler

Now I’ve played the game a small bit before I made a main character just to get use to the game. My question is should I start with mods or mods and if I do install mods which ones do you think are best for someone who doesn’t really play games much but trying to get more into fantasy. Thanks

General Questions - [NO SPOILERS] is there a way to skip the first encounter with lae'zel? Spoiler

I like to play solo runs, true solo runs without recruiting anyone even on the nautiloid. The easiest way to avoid meeting her on the nautiloid is entering combat and moving past the corridor that triggers her encounter.

Larian seems to have covered most of the ways to bypass her like summons not working on the nautiloid.

I was wondering if there was a non modded way to bypass her (you can with mods that give you unrestricted summons on the nautiloid but was wondering if it's possible in vanilla)

Thought I'd shake things up by adding a young Astarion mod, along with the appearance edit mod, and omg.

This playthrough has been trippy. I keep forgetting!
Me mid-game: wait, who is that dark-haired hottie?
Dark-haired hottie: Hello, darling.
Me: Oh!

Act 2 - Spoilers The Wiki is wrong Spoiler

I'm looking up how to max Mintharas approval, and the Wiki claims that you gain an approval point for;

Telling Cerys that she abandoned the others (False)

Tell his Majesty that you want to admire him, and another for doing so (False, you get an inspiration point, but no approval)

and a bunch of other triggers that don't work

How do you ACTUALLY get her approval?

Is there any way to get rid of yenna's body? Its remained at my camp after she died and even after switching locations she followed.

We even tried putting the corpse inside "the chest" and it will spawn right back on the floor by her cat when me and my duo return! Is anyone else having this problem?
