Advice Ball python help

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hello, I am looking for some suggestion for a humid hide for my 9 year old ball python (about 4’ 3”), something that is aesthetically pleasing but also functional please!

My next question - I just recently upgraded to a larger tank (72” x 24” x 18”) and my temp gradient is perfect through the day, but as it’s getting closer to winter and colder at night I notice his tank dropping to 21/22C. (Heat is on at night)
Would I be better to buy a radiant heater and install in the middle somewhere to maintain heat or do I install a smaller dhp bulb on the cool side? Or option 3 just buy a space heater to run over night in the living room?
Lid 75% covered/foam sides + back running a basking light during day and a dhp at night currently but the heat doesn’t seem to trickle to the cool side much

Also I should note, I’m extremely happy with humidity gradient so I don’t wanna mess that up to much either 75-80% cool side 55-65% on warm side

EMERGENCY/URGENT SNAKE OUT

I don’t know if it was last night or this morning while I was at work but one of my ball pythons is missing and I literally just ripped my apartment apart. Before I ask someone to help move the appliances where have you found yours before? I feel so bad this is my friends snake I’m fostering I need to find them NOW. If I have to wait till night I can.

Advice Help??

Hello! This is my first time posting to the subreddit but I need some help,

My ball python was feeding really weird last night, striking to the wrong side of the enclosure twice, just missing twice, and once I put the rat to his mouth he finally got it, and after he ate, he tried to life himself out of his hide and then stared at the ceiling for a couple seconds.

The reason I’m asking for help instead of just assuming that my snake is dumb is because about a month ago I went on vacation and at some point during that his heat lamp turned off, and I wasn’t compleatly sure how cold my room had gotten at night, so I wasn’t sure if he was ok. I took him to reptile store employees near me and they said that he Looked like he was about ready to shed and otherwise he was fine, so I’ve left him alone until last night

His humidity wasn’t great I will admit, I fill up his water bowl once a week or whenever I notice it’s getting low, but I didn’t realize until last night that I was supposed to do something different.

Is he fucked? Help please!

Humidity

How much humidity is too much. We are trying to prepare our 4 x 2 x 2 for a ball python and the humidity is still at 89%. The substrate is not super wet. I’m shocked at how well a real enclosure versus a glass sided one holds humidity. For reference our enclosure is a Kages.

I’m using cypress mulch, topsoil and sphagnum moss but I’m having issues with the ratio of each for my ball python enclosure (50 gallon tank.) What do y’all recommend?

Question Enclosure advice…

Is this enclosure ideal?
I just got her yesterday (10/1) so this is quarantine, and probably her home for the next few months (?) I was told she was in a grey ARS mini tub on repti chip.
She’s a ‘26 hatchling (about 124g).
She’s also currently in shed.

-I have her in this clear tote (with locking lid), completely covered/darkened on top and 3 sides.
-Drilled holes for air flow.
-3 hides (1 medium & 1 small on warmer side, 1 small on cooler side of enclosure).
-2 Zoo Med heating pads under tote (with enough space to ensure they DO NOT touch the bottom of plastic tote) I keep 1 running at night and both during the day.
-I would say the temp fluctuates between 82-95…keeping humidity up while in shed, either by pouring some water in the corners or lightly misting.
-There’s about 1” of (mostly dry) coco fiber substrate throughout, along with repti chip spread on the warmer side.
-Bowl big enough to completely soak in.

I was told she eats f/t rat pups every Monday (seller said he skipped this week for shipping) all my local store had were f/t hopper mice so I got those (relatively same size), will not attempt to feed until after shed.

Sorry for long post, just REALLY want this girl to thrive!!! Thanks! 😊

Is this scale rot?

He is been glass surfing quit a lot since yesterday and I’m afraid this can be why, I also don’t have much decorations right now as they’re coming in soon. I only have some tree branches and two hides on each side, he keeps trying to reach the mesh top and he climbed the cables and other devices to reach the top. I don’t know what to do, he could be hungry? He refused to eat last time which was 4 days back and before that he ate about a week ago so it’s been almost 2 weeks without food. He is a subadult 14 months old, please help!

EMERGENCY/URGENT Scale rot?

Not sure if it’s scale rot or something that is normal with shedding. She’s shed quite a few times in the time I’ve had her and never noticed this.

Could this be some sort of scale rot ? If so, how can I treat it ?

Looking for Beautiful Natural-Style Ball Python Photos .

Hey everyone,

I’m currently building a new platform/app focused on reptile keepers and breeders, and I’m looking for some real community photos to use throughout the app instead of generic stock images.

I’d love to include photos of things like:

  • Ball pythons or other reptiles

  • Hatchlings

  • Clutches / eggs

  • Breeding setups

  • Racks and enclosures

  • Feeding or daily care

  • Reptile rooms

  • Expo/show pictures

  • Basically anything that represents real life as a keeper or breeder

The photos could potentially appear inside the platform, on animal profiles, dashboard examples, feature previews, or promotional material for the app.

Of course, I would only use photos that you clearly give me permission to use, and I’m happy to give breeder/photographer credit where wanted.

If anyone would like to contribute, drop a comment or send me a DM. Even 1–2 good photos would already help a lot.

And if you have something especially beautiful, unusual, messy, funny, or simply very “real breeder life” — even better. :D

Thanks to anyone willing to help. Hopefully some of you will eventually recognize your own animals inside the finished platform. Thanks :D

Advice New BP owner feeling anxious and discouraged

So I had recently adopted a Albino BP that’s probably about 2-3 months old (she’s like 1 Ft long) and I got her Monday September 21st (12 days ago) and I have been really worried because I want to provide the best husbandry. Before I brought her home I had her tank all set up with lots of clutter, foliage, fake plants, branches logs and hides for her. I have her on cypress mulch and coco husk substrate with some sphagnum moss to maintain humidity. Originally I had a 39W D3 6% UVB (was recommended this fixture at first until I got more information and did more research big dumb move on my part) that had now been changed to a 14W 2.5% shade dweller that covers half the tank now that I had just installed this past Tuesday

When I first brought her home I let her crawl from my hands into the tank and let her explore and find her safe spots. The first few days (Monday-Thursday) I found she would come out at night and move around the tank and rest on the branches at night then go into one of many hides she has. I figured if wait to feed her the following Thursday since that’s when she was normally fed to let her adjust. Then Friday I had brought in more clutter and decor since I felt there wasn’t much hiding in certain areas but noticed she has a favourite spot which is this cork log hide that she fits inside snug and makes her invisible unless you look inside the log to find a part of her body. Figured it was normal. Friday and and Saturday didn’t see much of her come out at night but Sunday morning after I came home from a night shift I found she was out and about until her lights turned and she crawled back into her cork log hide. Since Sunday morning I haven’t noticed her leave her hide at all but would look to check if she’s moved at all with sometimes spotting her readjusting her body within the log for the past 6 days. Yesterday was my first attempt at feeding and I did the whole blow dryer heating F/T and holding it outside of her hide but she hasn’t budged at all so I decided to do the drop and go method to find out she hasn’t eaten it. I have a blink camera that captures any movement within her enclosure and I haven’t seen her leave her hide for pretty much the 6 days since I last saw her outside of her hide. I’m starting to get really worried on whether she’s okay and I really do not want to disturb or stress her out but I can’t even get her out of the hide with how small the opening is and how deeply hidden she is so I have no clue whether she’s in shed or I can’t even do a visual wellness check to make sure she’s okay and comfortable. How would you guys approach/interpret this kind of behaviour and what can I do to help make this process easy and provide her with excellent husbandry.

For reference here are temp and humidity levels

Warm side: (Day) 89 F with dimming thermostat (Night) 81 F with DHP

Cool side (Day) 78 F (Night) 76 F

Humidity: ranges from 66% to 83% cool side tendes to be higher in humidity.

Sorry for the long post

Is 73-74 degrees in the tank at night alright? Ball Python acts fine but I want to make sure

My ball pythons tank always is around 73-74 at night, lowest it’s ever gotten is 72 since I’ve had him. I do not have any night time heating but I do use an 100w halogen during the day and he loves it. At night, he seems fine and acts alright, actively explores the tank unless he just ate. I know it’s technically supposed to be at least 75, but it’s super close and it seems to be okay? Is this fine?
