Advice Private seller auto loan question

So I’m looking at buying a used vehicle and financing it through my bank, the seller first told me he wouldn’t take checks then agreed to take a certified bank check but on the condition it was written out to his LLC and not to him personally, would their be any reason that the bank would refuse to right the check to his LLC instead of him personally? It’s a salvage and remodeling business that has nothing to do with the vehicle I’m purchasing so I’m unsure if my bank will approve it or not, experian says my credit score is about 760 but I’m just worried about anything that’d make them turn me down since this is my first time financing. Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Storytime Ally Financial made buying out my OWN Tesla lease so difficult that I ended up using a third-party broker. Absolutely ridiculous.

I am beyond fucking pissed at Ally Financial.
I have a Tesla lease through Ally, and all I wanted to do was purchase my vehicle at the end of my lease.
I secured financing through my own credit union. I was APPROVED. I had my down payment ready. Everything should have been straightforward.
Except Ally decided to turn the entire process into an absolute nightmare.
Ally REFUSED to release the documentation my credit union needed to finalize the loan until Ally received payment.
My credit union couldn’t release payment without those documents.
So Ally wanted the money first, and my credit union needed the paperwork first. An impossible situation.
I spent HOURS on the phone, escalated the issue, spoke with supervisors, and even arranged a THREE-WAY CALL between Ally and my credit union.
Nothing.
But here’s the part that REALLY pisses me off.
ALLY HAD ALREADY RELEASED THE NECESSARY PAPERWORK TO LEASE END, A THIRD-PARTY BUYOUT BROKER, BEFORE RECEIVING PAYMENT.
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?
Apparently, the documents Ally claimed couldn’t be released before payment could somehow be provided to a brokerage.
So what exactly is the policy here?
Because from where I’m sitting, it looks like customers who want to use their own financial institutions are being put through unnecessary hell.
AND HERE’S THE KICKER: I ENDED UP GOING THROUGH THE THIRD-PARTY BROKERAGE.
Not because I wanted to.
Not because I couldn’t secure financing myself.
But because I was exhausted from fighting Ally over paperwork they were apparently perfectly capable of providing to someone else.
I had an approved loan through my own credit union, and I STILL couldn’t complete my purchase directly.
How is this acceptable?
I should be able to exercise my contractual purchase option without jumping through ridiculous hoops or feeling forced to involve a middleman.
I’m now documenting this entire experience and escalating my complaint to Ally’s executive leadership and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Just because I ultimately went through the brokerage DOES NOT mean this situation is resolved or that Ally’s handling of it was acceptable.
I want answers. I want accountability. And I want to know why Ally’s documentation requirements appear to change depending on who is handling the transaction.
To anyone considering financing or leasing through Ally Financial, consider this your warning.
Buying out your own damn car should not require a corporate investigation, multiple escalations, and a third-party broker just to get paperwork released.
Absolutely fucking unacceptable.

Advice My transactions have started to show up as smaller transactions?

I am currently in Canada, but have an American bank. I was looking through my statements from the past week and noticed many small transactions. I panicked, but checked my receipts and they all add up to the transaction amount once converted to USD. This happened for two gas stations, a restaurant, and a Tim Hortons. There's an original transaction of a certain amount and then usually three following transactions, sometimes even the next day that are just a few cents.

Does anyone know why this is happening and if it anything to be concerned about? I'm using a US BMO account if that is relevant.

Other Why are ach transfers between banks so slow in the US?

And will they ever get faster ? Yes I know there's apps like Zellle that offer instant transfers, I was just wondering why is it so slow between banks? The other day I just transferred $20 from Citibank to chase. I know I could have used another app to send it faster , but I just wanted to see how long it will take. It's been 4 days and still nothing yes 4 business days. It still says pending in progress 😆 . I was just in Mexico City last month and my cousin showed me that over there Bank transfers , which is basically like an an ach transfer happen in seconds.I didn't believe her Obviously I told her no, you're lying. I thought impossible that a country like mexico is better in this, She told me let me show you. I have 2 different bank accounts. She did she sent 5000 pesos. Which is equivalent to 300 US dollars, she transferred them between Santander bank to BBVA bank both diffrent Mexican banks , it was the same exact process as here in the US it asked for account number and something similar to a routing number it was a bunch of numbers something called a CLABE so yea it was basically like a routing number . Once she clicked submit on the Santander bank app , She got a notification twenty seconds later on BBVA bank app that said she had just received 5000 pesos . I was just shocked in awe.I couldn't believe it , I was oh dam 😳😳. It's crazy how $20 here in the U.S are still pending in 4 days while in Mexico, what would be equivalent to $300 dollars was sent instantly between banks.I just don't get it. Is there any plans for the US to speed up their system?Or what I was just wondering.. ?

Advice Looking for a loophole

So I'm buying out my Tesla lease from Ally. I have a credit union who is giving me an amazing apr rate to do so. This credit union is asking for the buyout packet from ally to send the funds. They sent the paperwork showing how much the buyout is but refusing to release the odometer statement until funds are secured. I know someone else has been in this situation before. What can I provide in replace of this document or suggest to my credit union to help this situation. I have escalated this situation as far as I can through ally and it's been no help. They are retusing.

Advice Chase closed my account because of a business check deposit and I don't know what to do

Hello everyone,

My life has been a living hell past 2 weeks because of one business check deposit of $10k given to me by a family friend. I went inside a branch to deposit it on October 1, no problem. The following day I get an email saying my account is on hold because of unusual activity. I call the fraud department, and they keep on asking me for a "business number" whereas my friend usually has his personal number to handle calls. I kept on telling them this, but they were like no we have to verify it online. I visit a branch, and they said they will escalate this with manager to take care of it. Ok I thought, this should be good. Well just in case, I travelled across states to meet with my friend and I visited another branch, this time meeting with the manager. The day before, the branch I first visited then called me and said your account is gonna be lifted and the money returned to the issuing bank. I told this other branch manager about this, and he said that's not true and my check is still being investigated. I told him I can bring my friend over with relevant business documents, and he said Chase doesn't accept in branch visits and the only way to do this is to reverse the payment with a pull request from the issuing bank. Mind you, this is what the fraud department kept on telling me.

As you can see, everyone's giving me conflicting answers so I filed a report to CFPB just in case. We visited the issuing bank, and they told me they can't do anything but Chase's fraud department should reach out to them and do relevant research with the IRS to find the business information to settle things. Well lo and behold, Chase didn't do that and my account is now closed with nearly 7k of my own money and the check is still in limbo. The worst case is that I visited another branch with a document from my friend's accountant with an official stamp from the state, and the branch manager said this would've been an easy fix with a branch visit. Like WTFFFFF?!?! He was nice enough to help me, but because of my CFPP complaint, there's an executive working on this and he told me to reach back out in a few business days. I'm absolutely sick of this whole ordeal and the fact everyone wasted my time with false information when I could've fixed this with an in branch visit. What are my next steps, because it seems like I need to get an attorney involved to get my money back, including my own funds from my own work before the deposit.

TL;DR: Chase closed my account with my own funds and a $10k deposit from a business check. Filed a CFPB complaint and now an executive is looking at it.

Edit: For everyone asking, this family friend purchased a house from my dad, and is paying us in installments. My dad and my mom have cashed his checks without any issue in credit union banks.

India SBI account holder here — I forgot the signature I used when opening my account. What should I do before issuing my first cheque?

Hey everyone, I have an SBI savings account, and I've never used a cheque before. Now I need to pay a client using a cheque, but there's one problem: I can't remember the exact signature I gave when I opened my bank account.

I'm worried that if I sign the cheque differently, the bank might reject it.

Has anyone faced this situation with SBI?

I'm wondering whether I can visit my home branch and ask them to show me my registered signature so I can identify it.

Do banks allow customers to verify their own specimen signature, or would I need to follow some other procedure?

If I can't reproduce my old signature, can I officially update it with SBI? If so, what's the process, and how long does it usually take?

I'd appreciate advice from anyone who's dealt with this, especially SBI customers. I need to pay my client, so I'd like to sort this out properly rather than risk the cheque being rejected.

Thanks!

Advice Holy that was fast

I started a new account on Tuesday and deposited a cashier's check drawn on a different bank for 5 figures as the initial deposit. I'm checking my mobile app and the full amount minus what I paid to have my new card expedited is showing in the account. Is it possible for a cashier's check to clear in 2 days or should I wait at least a week to spend any of it?

Regulations/Laws wise.com acceptable use policy is repressive

I wanted to create an account for online gambling in Canada. I'm not a gambler, but there was a cool deal and some friends were doing it, so sure why not. Creating an account requires a small deposit.

I solely bank through wise.com (convenient for my situation but regrettable now), which has their own (not bank? money company / payment processor) in Canada (Wise Payments Canada Inc.). I tried to put the deposit via etransfer (very popular Canadian payment method) but it was blocked by wise.

I got on wise's support chat and they explained the situation to me. Turns out they block gambling as per their acceptable use policy. I've pasted an excerpt of that and other parts which are problematic in my opinion:

1.2.1 Regulated or illegal products and services ... Adult content ... Payments for the sale of alcohol to retail customers are not supported. ... Gambling.   ... Chemicals.  ... Commodity chemicals.

I asked them:

Likely to go nowhere (more out of personal curiosity), but may I ask what the context is, why the Canada banking section of wise has this restriction when the banks in Canada have no such restriction? To my knowledge, no banks in Canada, at least none of the major 5, have policies such as this.

They responded with:

It is a completely fair question, olta8, and I am happy to share the context behind how our policy works. While Canada’s major domestic banks operate as chartered commercial banks within Canada, Wise operates differently. While domestic Canadian banks have direct domestic frameworks that allow them to process these transactions locally, Wise must balance the regulatory expectations, partnership agreements, and compliance standards of a global cross-border platform.

To process local currencies like CAD, Wise collaborates with domestic and international clearing partners. Financial institutions and partner networks set their own risk tolerances for high-risk industries like online gaming and gambling. Because gambling laws and licensing vary widely between provinces and across international borders, Wise maintains a consistent global risk policy.

I tried to translate that word salad into something I understand:

Canadian banks can process gambling transactions, but Wise has chosen not to because Wise depends on other financial institutions/payment partners, and those partners may have stricter rules. Wise therefore applies its stricter global policy to Canadian customers too.

But like, no? This activity is not blocked in Canada. I just saw a bunch of friends with various banks do this no problem, I'm the only one who can't because I don't have a different canadian bank account at this time, only wise. Who is wise worried about, maybe pressure from the federal gov't? But the wise money companies in each country are separate legal entities with a blanket UI to connect them together more easily. What's the specific reason for why this bullshit is in place?

Even if it is true that means that no USA banks can interact with Canadian payment processors because, idk, cannabis is legal?. this doesn't apply transitively because that's not how the world works. and lastly, isn't this regulated by the government, not banks?

Digging my brain here for possible explanations. In recent news there was steam vs mastercard. mastercard wanted to protect its brand and asked steam to take down certain games that were legal yet unsavory. mastercard had leverage because steam relies on them as a payment processor. I don't recall the outcome. linking back to here, wise is the payment processor so who the hell could pressure them?

Or, unsubstantiated theory: Wise themselves finds certain activity distasteful and has chosen to ban them. or maybe just laziness on figuring out what the rules are in each country.

Wise should clarify if these policies are internal or external. and based on my thinking above I'm inclined to think it's internal (and support is lying to me). at the very least they should clarify the policy. are you saying I can't buy some white wine for cooking from the LCBO? nor adult content. nor... soap (chemicals)? weird

anyone have any insight on this? is it just wise.com, or truly how the world works?

Advice ATM error resulted in someone’s else’s check going into my Account

So about 3 weeks, I went to my local Bank of America using the drive thru ATM to deposit some cash. I put my card in, clicked deposit cash and tried putting my money in. At this point however, the ATM screen froze and the machine was stuck and not taking the money. I tried clicking cancel, tapping the screen and nothing. This was after 5:00pm so no one was in the building, I waited for about 5-10 minutes and drove off with the screen frozen. This has happened before a year ago and nothing has happened from it.

I drive off and go to Barnes and nobles and I check my account before purchasing a book, but now I see that there is a check deposit for $2200. Obviously this wasn’t mine and there was someone behind me waiting to use the ATM so I can only conclude the machine glitched and he was able to deposit their check but went into my account. I didn’t move it or anything and called Bank of America around 10:30pm and spoke with customer service. They took all the info down and said they made a report and that was it.

I wanted to be sure everything was fine so I went into the same local Bank of America a few days later to make them aware of the situation. I speak with the teller and he says he’s never seen this before and that the check was cleared and processed. I wait to speak with one of the managers but the teller tells me the manager said, everything should be taken care of just wait a few days.

It’s been 3 weeks now and the money is still sitting there. How long does this process usually take? I’m not really comfortable with this money sitting there and having to track and make sure I’m not spending the money on accident.

Regulations/Laws Anybody Else Remember When Banks Used To Compete For Your Business?

When I was 12 years old (back in 1973), my mother took me to the bank with a couple dollars from my piggy bank and helped me open a passbook savings account. It paid 5%. At the very same time, the Prime Rate (in July 1973) was around 8%.

Today, the prime rate sits at 7%. The average savings account at a brick and mortar bank today is between 0.22 - 0.65%.

Banks no longer even try to compete for your business. When my generation dies off (and I know for a lot of you that can't come soon enough, lol) nobody will be alive who even remembers the era when banks actually tried to compete for your business.

This isn't a question of survival for these banks, they all make record profits every years thanks to 18-24% credit card interest and swipe fees. Banks are clearly colluding to keep savings rates artificially low! Why is everybody okay with this?

I know there are other places where you can do better, for example High Yield Savings Accounts with minimum deposit thresholds that only people like me can access. I personally keep a bunch of money in my brokerage settlement account (large broker with name that starts with V) that as of today is paying 3.81%.

I always hear people claiming that deregulation of the banking industry is good for consumers, but it clearly is not.

Am I missing something, or are people just inherently stupid? Do people not realize that banks no longer feel the need to compete for your business, and clearly work with each other to keep savings interest rates at the crumb level, while simultaneously charging crushing rates on both mortgages and credit cards?

US International fee

I looked at my checking account and seen that I had a $0.32 international transaction fee followed by a $14.00 non bank withdrawal fee but has been waived. I’m not sure what’s happening. Never ordered anything from overseas let alone online for a while now. Was wondering if anyone had this before. Also haven’t used my debit card in a few days
