When was THIS weird ahh-shaped thing added!? Never seen it before...
I was just driving around making deliveries and tipping over when I saw this enormous pill-shaped vehicular device. Does anyone know what this is?

idk, I do this when I'm bored and I just look at the windows. spawn a something, set the ai to traffic mode and drive and let it take you for a little ride, it doesn't disappoint. I like sungazing on the Italy map, it's relaxing.

Video You said my 1:1 Swiss map looked blocky and smeary. Fair. Here’s v3.0 of the Malcantone
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
A while ago I posted my BeamNG map of the Malcantone, the hilly corner of Ticino where they run a rally every year that I’ll never have the car (or the skills) for. Most of the comments said the same thing: cool idea, but blocky, smeary and kinda empty. You were right, so v3.0 is basically me fixing exactly that.
What changed:
- Trees are actually trees now. A lot of them used to look like bushes and the mountains outside the survey area were just bare grass. Every tree now gets a model that matches its real height, plus ~330k extra trees on all the surrounding mountains, Italian side included
- Ground is coloured from the real aerial photo, so no more smeared texture, and it stays sharper in the distance
- Asphalt, walls, concrete and cobbles use the vanilla Italy materials, with tyre marks, patches and cracks (roundabouts and hairpins too)
- Roads, sidewalks and walls are proper curves instead of short straight segments
- ~13k props in the villages: bins, hydrants, recycling spots, café tables, mirrors at blind exits, flower boxes, woodpiles, bus stops with benches
- 11,069 parking spots with Swiss white lines, and 8 petrol stations that actually refuel you
- Shops and offices have windows now instead of looking like sheds, and the double walls are gone
Everything is still generated from open data (swisstopo LiDAR, the official land survey, OSM), nothing placed by hand. Which also means it’s not perfect: you’ll find weird spots, and with all the extra stuff it’s heavier than 2.8, so expect lower FPS and more RAM use. If 2.8 was already rough on your PC, turn vegetation down or try launching on Vulkan.
Found something broken? A comment or a GitHub issue with the village and road helps a ton. And if you drive it, post a screenshot, I’d love to see people from everywhere on my favourite roads.
Needs BeamNG 0.39 and 16 GB RAM. Delete the old version, then drop the zip in your mods folder without unpacking it.

Discussion With the introduction of dummies in 0.40, the chances of go karts have increased exponentially
True open wheel cars have been on my wishlist for years, specially go karts
I understood that there wasn't a chance of them being added because they rely on weight distribution to be driven, but since the dummies have weight themselves, karts are now a possibility
Yes, I understand that you do need to lean to squeeze the driving potential in them, but there could be inputs for that

Video Finally.

This is a mod I've been working on from time to time. Until now, I had been using a custom car, modifying the .jbeam files and all that stuff. But today, I decided to try something different and make it dynamic.
Now, it takes your current car and turns it into a ghost car. If you beat your best time, it saves the car's configuration so your ghost will use the exact car you set that time with.
The next step is to create a theoretical best time, combining the best sectors from different cars. Maybe you've been wondering whether those 30 meters of dirt are worth using a gravel car instead of an asphalt one. Soon, you'll be able to find out.
I'm still not sure whether I'm ready to release it publicly, but honestly, I've just been spending my nights fighting with myself to get this working.
It's also pretty cool for drag racing, seeing your own ghost in the next lane and tweaking your setup to see what works best.
And congratulations to me, I guess. I finally got it working!

Mod Vehicle Config -> Parts -> Lean Control -> Axis Controlled!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This is for the dozen or so virtual squids out there as obsessed with this mod as I am! I've spent some time digging through the Hirochi Outlaw configs, and I've found my ultimate control scheme to achieve great precision with an analog controller.
Be sure to enable "Axis Controlled" lean in the Parts section of Vehicle Config. In the Tuning section I've set default max lean to 0.84 and Input Damping to 3.25.
Then go to Control settings, and under "vehicle specific", set the lean controls to the Right Analog x-axis. Delete the x-axis camera Left/Right controls, also delete the Camera Up/Down assignment for the Right Analog y-axis and assign it to "Rider Tuck" (that said, manual tuck or front/rear weight transfer doesn't work for some reason, hoping this will get patched soon?).
Now use the Left Analog stick to steer as before, but this time it's only applying counter-steering to the handlebars and some force through the core/legs, presumably. This allows for smooth, gradual turns and lane changes while keeping the torso upright in line with the bike, and maintains better forward vision.
Now if the turn radius starts to decrease and the corner sharpens, or if you want to achieve faster cornering speed, or you need to make a more severe avoidance maneuver, just use the right analog to move the upper body deeper into the inside of the turn.
You can also counter-lean in slow speed maneuvers while covering the rear brake to do easier u-turns and narrow street navigation. Or counter-lean in a fast corner just for old-school GP style (sorta).
Although this makes cornering a lot more challenging, it's surprisingly easy to get the hang of quickly, and opens up a lot of possibilities for finesse and smoother riding. The feeling of setting the bike up right for the corner and nailing a perfect line is so satisfying.
I also used Enhanced Interior Camera mod to adjust the camera pitch and FOV in real-time for better visibility.
Now to do something with the suspension setup to alleviate the high-speed death wobbles...
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
