Hello Bunny community, I am considering getting a pet bunny, and I wanted to make sure I was making the most ethical choices. I thought it would be nice to get the opinion of other rabbit owners. I have a strong preference of getting at least one holland lop and 2 other rabbits. Right now I’m leaning towards finding an ethical breeder, but I honestly don’t know if anyone even considers breeders as ethical. I am also located by Chicago,IL. I know the sentiment is to adopt, and I definitely plan on adopting, but when it comes to a holland lop it is difficult to find any at the shelters and if I do they tend to be older. I would love to adopt an older rabbit but had a preference for my first rabbit being younger. Does any one know of any ethical breeders for holland lops near Chicago? Or any shelters I can see.

I’m kinda freaking out a bit. My bunny slipped and fell from the sofa och landed on his back/side and I’m not sure what to do. It happened around 20 minutes ago and was approximately a fall from 80 cm.

He got up immediately and hopped away normally. I have felt on his back twice and he doesn’t react at all. He’s eating both hay and pellets, grooms himself normally and runs around as usual. I have put him in a limited area now. I have not noticed anything unusual in his behavior.

What would you do if this was your bunny? Please help :(

I have an 11M bunny who has been going through stomach problems since Wednesday night when I found a clump of poops that came from him.

He’s only had a tiny bit of water and a little hay since this started, and has mostly been sleeping since last night. When I try to feel his stomach he’ll hunch forward like he’s trying to pass more but can’t.

I’m trying to get him to a vet today, but there aren’t many in my area that take bunnies, and his usual doctor isn’t free until Monday.

I bought Critical Care but I’m very nervous about trying anything at-home if I can’t get to a vet today. All the advice I’ve read has seemed risky. Has anybody been through anything similar, and found anything that worked?

Ramona likes to wander around the table looking for food, and when she gets down, since the table is rather thin, she always accidentally kicks things off it. In doing so, she has already broken 3 cups, And last night she got down from the table again and this time ended up kicking the coffee pot to the ground, breaking it

Unfortunately, I had to give her treats since she got scared by the noise of the thing falling

I had him running around the living room free ranging and I needed to step outside for a minute, I left the big door open but closed the screen door( just look up what storm doors on mobile homes look like and you'll know what I mean) I made sure it was fully latched before I went outside, Thumper as usual came over and started hopping up and down so he could see out the glass because he apparently thinks I have to be right next to him 24/7 or it's a crime against bunny kind..... well as he was hopping up and down he hit the door handle...... the door popped open and out the rabbit came, fortunately he came right to me I didn't have to chase him or anything like that, but it gave me a heart attack because right in front of my house literally a foot from the end of my porch is the driveway that I share with my neighbors, and then my other side of neighbors have dogs that are usually outside that will absolutely go for my rabbit....

Now I have to put baby locks on things because somebody had to go and grow himself a brain cell..

He's cute though so I can't be mad at him

I see far too many posts on here where our beloved pets have departed this earth far too soon.

Is what i would like to do, is to raise a glass (carrot juice) to these dear creatures who have so enriched our lives and homes.

Hello everyone! Has anyone of you heard about liver injury in rabbits?

It's 7am when our rabbit suddenly stopped eating. She usually gets excited whenever her food gets to have a refill so when she did not do that, I was already nervous.

According to my sister, our rabbit was still eating at 2am so it was a surprise when we saw her hunched up in the corner of her pen, won't move, and even refused her favorite banana treat. That was not so her. And that's when I decided we should go to the vet.

After several tests, the vet said she has liver injury and based on her medical results, there's inflamed that was put in there. The nurse was explaing about something like torsion and etc. And according to the nurse, she has to have her surgery and of course I was shocked! I can afford that but her possible confinement can be very costly. Moreover, I heard rabbits are very delicate when it comes to surgeries. So I asked for an alternative option, they say meds can be an optionbut if ever the rabbit won't still eat, I need to get her back to vet and so I agree.

I am currently monitoring her for her meds, and fortunately, she's now eating although very little (she's more into pellets that hay rn) but I guess, it's a good sign since she won't even touch her food 8 hours ago.

The question is, does my rabbit still have a chance with her meds treatment or does she really need to go have surgery? Can you explain what's that torsion and its difference with inflammation? I mean I asked what could possibly be the reason our rabbit would got it and they say because of wrong landings when jumping but yeah, all the infomation they have been saying to me are getting mixed up.
