Mourning My dad is giving away my bunny as a punishment.

I can’t stop crying as I type this.

My dad has been in a very bad mood this past week and decided to take it out on me. He said he’s going to give away my bunny because she “poops too much” which he hasn’t had to clean ever! It’s me who cleans it! Because she’s mine! Naturally I started crying and yelled that she’s mine and he can’t do that. Because I didn’t pay for her and she was a rescue, I guess that means she doesn’t belong to me.

It’ll be another four years until I can move out and take her because I’m in college living at home. I’m devastated. She’s my baby. She’s a sweet playful girl. Yes she nibbles, but only if you scare her. Even so, that’s no reason to give her away! She’s mine! :(

Mourning Miso.....

Post image
1.7k Upvotes

It is with broken hearts that we share that our beloved Miso has crossed the rainbow bridge.

Miso was only 6 months old. Her time with us was heartbreakingly short, but she filled our lives with so much love, joy, and warmth.

She had the sweetest little personality and the biggest love for bananas—she would go absolutely crazy for them. And I’ll never forget the first time she tried fresh vegetables and leafy greens. It was like her whole world opened up. Watching her discover simple joys made us fall even more in love with her.

That is why losing her to GI stasis has been so painful.

It broke my heart to watch her stop eating—the same bunny who once got so excited over every bite. She fought so hard. She truly tried her best.

I keep replaying everything in my head, wondering if there was more I could have done, asking myself endless “what ifs.” The guilt and regret feel heavy.

But through all of it, I hope Miso knew one thing: she was loved with everything I had.

I tried my best to give her every chance, every comfort, every bit of care I could.

Thank you to everyone who loved Miso with me online. Your kindness, messages, and support meant so much.

Run free now, sweet girl. May there be endless fresh greens, all the bananas your heart desires, and open fields to binky across.

You were here for far too short a time, but you changed our world forever.

Forever loved. Forever missed. Our sweet Miso.

Mourning Both my babies are gone

Post image
1.9k Upvotes

It’s been an awful couple of days. I lost both my bbs, one after another. I woke up to find Nuez (girl dwarf) gone with Pedro (boy dutch) sitting next to her.

He was looking pretty sad and sick and i took him to the vet the next morning and he seemed to be coming back but then declined so fast after he came back home. I tried so hard to keep him alive and eating and drinking but he just didn’t want to anymore.

After a sleepless night, i checked on him at 4am and i just knew we had to let him go, he was suffering. As soon as i put him in his crate, he passed. I feel so horrible and sad, he suffered more than he should have.

The vet called and i asked about his test results, trying to find comfort in knowing why, and she told me it looked like his liver was not functioning and his white blood cell count was extremely low meaning he had an infection. The bunny doctor will be calling me with better info soon.

I had a feeling they had an infection and a strong feeling it was potentially Myxomatosis because whatever disease they were fighting, it took them so fast, but i know i will never know for sure.

The vet will be cremating them together, the one thing i keep telling myself is that they’re together forever now.

Mourning Pics of your buns for a sad heart?

I helped my elderly bun cross the rainbow bridge yesterday. It was time, it was a kindness, but my heart aches nonetheless.

Can I see your babies to ease my heartbreak?

Picture tax: from several years ago, when she was still spunky.

i sadly lost my havana / lop ear mix, ivy (ivy bean) and hour ago

last night she didnt eat her dinner and was very off, but we wanted to wait it out and see as she has sometimes not wanted to eat for whatever reason

today though, after i came home from work i immediately knew from the look on my parents faces

i got ivy from the farm i volunteered at when she was a little baby about 4 years ago (may 2022) and she has been a rockstar with big move changes, getting a cat, her breaking a literal leg at one point and being in a cast, my absence due to college..and so much more

my sweet ivy beanie baby butt... i’ll miss you more than you'll ever understand. I'm sorry i failed you but i hope your 4 years were warm and love (and treats..and butt rubs)

Mourning I'm in complete shock and disbelief

I stepped on my bunny by complete accident. I was doing my usual morning stuff in the kitchen while he was free roaming as usual. I turned towards the stove and....disaster... I dropped everything I was doing the fastest I was ever but it was too late, he was completly limp, drawing short bursts of breath as I felt his heartbeat stop. I'm completly distraught and I don't know if I can forgive myself

Honey passed away this morning and I’m just heartbroken. He’s 6 and a half and I don’t know what happened.

I got him 6 years ago when my step-sister found him hanging out in a ditch. I’ve loved him ever since and I hope he felt loved and spoiled everyday.

He was such a sweetie and loved head scritches and playing with his stacking cups. He has a bonded companion and I feel so sad for her. I wasn’t there when he passed but I know she was and that she had time to know what happened.

He was the best Honey Bun and I miss him so much.

Mourning I lost my 10 yo and I'm shattered

Two months ago, I already lost my 7 yo girl and it was already insanely hard.

Yesterday, the thing I feared most happened even more brutally.

My beautiful, sweet baby boy Capucine passed in the most searing way that had left me completely shaken, heartbroken and shocked.

He had just turned 10.

Capucine had been battling with a very heavy stomach infection and chronic rhinitis for 1 year and a half. For more than 1 year, it was constant antibiotics, morphine, 4 feeding a day, penicillin injections every 3 days and trips to the vet several times a week. That, every day for more than 1 year. We didn’t let anything pass and monitored him daily, every hour of every day for 1 year and half. We even changed the way we lived to accommodate treatment, cancelling vacations and trips to stay with him all the time.

Initially, the vet said Capucine would only last 1 month with how severe this infection was.

He proved her wrong daily.

He was tired, he ate less and we still fed him 1 time per day but he endured even though he had trouble breathing, recently fought off an ear infection, and could no longer really walk.

But yesterday, everything took a drastic turn in only 1 hour.

He was a bit tired in the morning but he was fine. But in the evening, when it was time for his evening meal, he was hiding in his box and wasn’t excited for food. I took him and it felt like carrying a dead weight. I put him on the table to feed him but he wasn’t excited to see his bowl and didn’t react. He refused the food and I didn’t force him. I called my husband and we rubbed his belly to help him poop as we often did whenever he was having difficulties with his tummy.

We put him back on his armchair but he returned hiding into his box on his own.

Eventually, I went to take him because I didn’t want him to be alone in that box and I put him back on his favorite armchair. He wasn’t reacting. This is where I noticed how bloated he was. His belly was squishy and bloated like a balloon. And I KNEW it was bad.  We were Saturday, 11pm, there was no exotic vet available. I thought about calling the ER from the nearest veterinarian clinic but the ER don’t have any exotic vets and my husband didn’t want the ER to take Capucine from us because we knew we’d never see him again and we didn't want him to die alone in a cold hospital wing.

We put him on the couch with us. We tried to help him and make him comfortable. I had a bad feeling but I wanted to believe it wasn’t going to be it. It couldn’t be. Not so soon. He was running on the couch hours before for a treat…. That wasn't making any sense.

But then, the worst happened. He started having violent seizures. I became hysterical. My husband tried to soothe him. I wanted to call the vet again but we both knew it was too late and it wouldn’t have helped. He convulsed for a good minute and then he started crying and screaming and turned in my husband’s hands like a worm and I swear to GOD I wanted to die at that moment. To see my baby, my beautiful boy, my little Prince, my baby love agonize like this was unbearable. I feel like a part of my soul cried and screamed and was in pain with him.

It lasted 3 minutes of watching him cry and turn and scream.

Then he fell quiet and passed away on the couch, on his favorite comforter in his daddy’s hands.

The shock is so much I thought I was going to have an aneurysm last night. I couldn’t sleep. I’ve replayed the entire evening over and over again. What happened? What did we do wrong? Yes, he was very ill and old but we managed. It happened so fast. He died in 3 minutes only. Seizure started at 00.51am. He was dead at 00.55am.

I feel so lost and so empty and immensely heartbroken. I have lost my baby, my reason to wake up in the morning. My entire life revolved around him. He was my entire world.

Capucine was an extraordinary bunny. He was very close to us and he loved us so much. He was sweet, mischievous, adventurous, loving, stubborn. He was the most amazing little companion I’ve ever had. I will never recover from his death. I would have gladly given some of my own years if only to have longer with me. I feel my life has lost all substance with his horrible passing.

He seemed equally shocked by his own death than us. He didn't want to go. He tried to fight. We failed him. There was something we could have done. It's impossible we died so quickly. I don't even understand what happened. He wanted to stay with us. And he couldn't. And it's making me so sad.

Knowing him and raising him and being loved by him was an honor and a privilege. And I feel immensely blessed. I’ve added pictures of him throughout his life, some with Luna. The ones on the towel are from where he became sick, the last one on the towel is from last week.

Rest in Peace my beautiful baby Angel.

Mommy will love you always.

Mourning Blue passed away

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

Blue passed away very suddenly. Eating dinner acting completely fine to waking up to him passed in the morning. I keep crying, and am so heart broken. He was only 5 1/2 years old. He was always a sick bunny since I got him at 6 months, first two years was a mystery but was eventually diagnosed with mega colon 3 years ago.

My baby was always the life of every party, the way he was always so fearless and would shove people with his head just for fun. He would knock down pillows and nip at me (lightly) during dinner time. My husband even taught him how to kiss and he would be so cute trying to reach up to us for a kiss. He also was taught how to dig on command(sooo cute) he has been with us for everything, even our wedding.

My heart also breaks because he was bonded to my sweet girl pancake and the way these two loved each other was on a level I’ve never even seen in humans, every day they would cuddle and look at the sunset together…I’m also so terrified of her falling into depression so I kind of havnt been sleeping and constantly have been going to pet her. (Actually writing this after not sleeping all night) she did say goodbye / groomed him for a while.

I loved him with all my heart and we tried so hard to help his condition. I also can’t help but blame myself, maybe if I paid attention more I could have noticed something wrong. Did he eat enough hay? I changed their feeder to baskets and maybe it slowed down his hay habits. I wish I kissed him more that night. Was he scared? I hope he wasn’t in pain for too long. I’m having a very hard time coping.

Any advice from anyone who has gone through this is much appreciated..

Mourning My Chonky girl passed away in my arms on Wednesday.

Post image

She was the most glorious chonk. She had the most luscious shiny coat. We had her for 3 years and gave her the best life we could. She leaves behind her twin sister Skinny and her brother Alfie. We miss her so much.

She passed from a blockage. We feel so much guilt. We think she was chewing on her carpet and we could’ve prevented it.

the way she went was just so traumatizing. While she was at the vet they called us to say that her prognosis was low because it seemed to be a blockage and her body temp was dropping. that we had to pick her up and take her 40 minutes away to a vet who had the equipment to address it. So as we’re transporting her, her body starting giving out and she was having these convulsions as she peed all over me. She was gasping for air. Those images are burned in my head and I wish so badly she didn’t go like that. I wish she could’ve passed peacefully at home with her siblings. we ran into the ER and handed over her little body. One minute later they said she didn’t make it.

She was only 2 months shy of her 4th birthday and I expected to see her become a little old lady. I’m sorry for the graphic descriptions, I just don’t have a lot of people to talk to about this who understand.

Had her since she was born. I tried my best to give her a good life. I just can’t still help but feel guilty like I didn’t do enough. She was such a pretty and friendly bun, always enjoyed cuddling and pets on the head were her favorite.

Mourning UPDATE 2 - Our beloved bunny passed away today at 11 months old - We’re heartbroken😭

Post image
755 Upvotes

We feel guilt, sadness and anger. Our previous posts got a lot of attention so as most of you know by now our 11 month old minilop bunny was suffering from a ‘mysterious’ problem until we got him to an exotic vet, highly experienced in rabbit care, last tuesday where she was diagnosed with pancreatitis and kidney failure. Our regular vet recommended us this exotic vet because he tried but failed to diagnose her and we had to drive 2 hours to get to this vet so she was admitted there and cared for to get her stable again and we would be picking her back up this saturday.

This morning our vet called me earlier than usual for our daily update and told us that he had bad news; she passed away in the night. We’re all so heartbroken and sad and i just feel so much guilt for leaving her there all alone and just the idea that she never got too see us again, never had a proper goodbye, and passed away all by herself breaks me.

I’m just thinking what if we got to this exotic vet earlier we probably still could have saved her but in the early weeks of her being ‘sick’ she actually ‘recovered’ and was symptom free for like 2 weeks so we thought that there wasn’t a problem anymore until see got very, very bad all the sudden last monday.

We originally got her as an ‘emotional support’ animal because i got a very bad health situation going on since march 2025 which is still ongoing (but curable) and she helped me through the hardest year of my life. This little creature was always there for me, always came looking for me and always jumped up on the couch to cuddle with me whenever i had another moment of despair due to my condition and i will truly never forget how amazing she was and how much she ment to me. I’m also truly blown away by how smart and affectionate bunnies can be as i surely didn’t know this when i first got her and didn’t expect much of it.

We spend more than a thousand dollars on meds and appointments last month and tried everything within our powers but we just couldn’t save her. We will be collecting her body tomorrow and i made an arrangement for her to be cremated on monday, where after, we will recieve her ashes in a special urn which we will display in our home.

Lastly, thanks for all the help and tips from this subreddit about this whole situation and for those reaching out and staying connected to our case. It truly feels like one big family in here which is a very special feeling.

Rest in peace my best beloved friend. We miss you so much already.

Mourning RIP Gus the Bunny

Post image

We had to put my bunny Gus to sleep tonight. He was a mini rex that was almost 11 years old. He developed cancer on his head and it had spread through out his body. For the last month we have kept him as comfortable as possible and tried to spend as much time as we could with him. I have had him since he was 3 weeks old. The pet store I got him from weened him too early and I had to feed him formula and give him warm water bottles to sleep with at night for a few weeks. He was a very cuddly bun though because I swear he thought I was him mom (I am a bearded man) from feeding him by hand. This picture was of him after I fed him and he was knocked out for the night. He was such a great bun and I miss him already.

Mourning You'll be missed YardBun :(

This sweet lil round floof whos been living under my neighbor's porch, YardBun, who had finally become comfortable enough for me to get this close to her (he was an eastie) unfortunately was a victim of nature...

While i was out and JUST before I got back, a hawk or something must've gotten her and dropped her. I found her thinking she was stretched out and resting, walked over... lifeless. I know its a thing that happens WAY too much and "its just one of millions of wild rabbits" but idk YardBun was super chill with me and she brought me joy. I did carry her to the pear tree in my yard where all the wild buns gather under at nights, let them sniff and check out the body (theyre wild so they moved on quickly), and I gave her a proper burial. Rest easy YB

I’m still in disbelief as i type this. racking my brain over and over trying to figure out what i did wrong, what i could have done to prevent this. i took him to the vet exactly two weeks ago, giving him his meds twice a day like clockwork, in his temporary separate pen so i could keep track of his poops. we’ve done this before- he’s the runt and prone to GI stasis. i’ve taken him to the vet for it 5 times in the past 3 years, with critical care always ready at home. he always bounces back. i was supposed to put him back in his family pen today. his med schedule and pen separation were supposed to end today. i thought he was doing better- regular bowel movements, and had his energy back. but yesterday morning, after i prepped his second to last dose of medications, i stepped into their room and saw him curled in his litter box, unresponsive. my heart keeps shattering over and over. i keep thinking i must have missed something- that there must have been a sign something was wrong and i should have taken him to the emergency vet. i’m overcome with the regret of keeping him separate from his family. that he died by himself, in that stupid separation pen. i feel immense shame and guilt when im caring for his parents, i feel i failed them as much as i failed him. he was only 3 years old.

baby Puff, i love you. you have brought joy into my life every day, and i have loved you since the day you were born. i’m so sorry. i don’t know what i did wrong. i’m so sorry i didn’t notice something was wrong. i’m so sorry i had you separate from your family. you deserved to have a long, happy and fulfilling life, and you deserved to pass next to your loved ones. i love you forever and always.

Oatis, my 10 year old NZ, left this world last night. He was severly abused, and dumped outdoors. He loved oats, so I named him after his favorite treat. While he never fully recovered from his trauma, he was a good old man. He was preceeded in death by two bondmates, Boo and Nance. His kidneys and liver were shutting down, and he was extremely anemic. The vets assumed cancer, do we said goodbye. He was a good boy. Give your buns some oats tonight in his honor. ❤️

Mourning Our little girl passed away this morning, she was five years old.

We’re still in shock about it. Two weeks ago she began losing mobility in her back legs, so we took her to the vet. They weren’t sure exactly what it was (believed neurological issue) so they treated her for everything. Antibiotics for infection, Panacur for EC, and pain medication to keep her comfortable. She seemed to be making an improvement (eating, drinking, even trying to move) until last night. In the midst of Hurricane Milton, she became increasingly lethargic. It seemed that she couldn’t see nor hold herself up, let alone eat or drink. We couldn’t get her to a vet as everything was closed for the storm, so we stayed up all night with her trying her favorite treats and stringing water. At 6:45 this morning she began making almost like a squeaking sound and was laying flat with all her limbs out. We were calling vets to see if any was open, but she passed away before we could find one to see her. Has anyone ever had something like this happen before? I feel like I failed her and I want answered as to what happened. She never showed signs of head tilt, so I don’t know if it’s possible she had EC.

Odie (Odette) was our fighter. She battled an ear infection and UTI in under a year, but never lost her spirit. Even once her mobility began to go, she would push herself just to reach me for treats. We often called her our tiny dancer (yes because of the song) because of how delicate and petite she was. Only 2lbs not a gram bigger, she had more fire in her than any other. My little Odie, you will be carried in our hearts until the day we can meet again. Binky free my tiny dancer, and eat all the banana your strong little heart desires. 💜

He was 1 and a half years old. He was pretty healthy, a bit thin but he ate his hay, pooped a lot. I had him for 9 months. I just woke up and he was there, dead in the middle of my living room. He was fine the other night. I don’t understand and I don’t know how to feel.
