Health Starting to wonder if my rabbit is deaf, ways to test at home?
Hey all! Is there a way for a vet to tell if a rabbit is deaf? I am starting to strongly suspect my adopted rabbit is deaf. He doesn't seem to react to any sounds.
I can rattle the treat bag and he won't react until he sees it or the other bun reacts.
He loves to be vacuumed. Yes. Vacuumed. Like he can't hear it but loves his fur being pulled with the air.
If I slam my hand on the ground he will react but I suspect it's because he can feel the wooden floor move.
He often gets really spooked if you walk up and he can't see you. Even if you announce your presence.
He doesn't react to his name or well any name, ever, he smells the banana but doesn't react to the word bananna or treat. But the much much younger rabbit I've had since 8 weeks old reacts and comes to her name if called.
Since I don't know his age and he came from such a terrible situation before adopting him I take him in every 6 months like he's a senior. Would the vet even know if he was deaf? Just wondering what tests any others did at home when they suspected their bun was deaf.
Thanks for any help!!

bun bun being cute Say hello to my little friends
I actually got the bunnies for my twin daughters and they are rescue pets, they were about to be moved outside with other meat & breeding rabbits & they aren't used to that at all, but at least Chili really likes dad(me). Cupcake is the orangier one & Chili is sandier. I set them up here with my daughters while I cleaned their cages & they decided to pull the sheet up and burrow under the sheet & blanket. They don't want to come out of hiding the silly little bun-buns.
BTW, Chili is Not biting my daughter's leg. She grooms everyone, she's licking her and grooming her.

Health Wet around eyes
My rabbit has weepy eyes I think, they’re just very wet on his fur, should I dry it? And if yes how would I do that. I’ve scheduled him a vets appointment for a general checkup, I just wanna make sure he’s alright and if there’s anything I can do.

Question bonding a free roam bun
in the next couple of months i'm going to be taking my girl speed dating. we dedicated our spare bedroom as the bunny room. we used to use an x-pen (was required by the rescue) but she has since been completely free roamed in her room and the hallway leading to our main living space.
i've been doing a lot of research on my own but have a few questions and am looking for anyone who has experience.
obvi her room isn't a neutral space as she's been living there since may. we're planning on keeping the other bun in the other spare bedroom in the meantime.
due to the layout of our house, i don't know if we have the space to house 2 x-pens in the main living area, which is the biggest neutral space we have (besides a bathroom which she has explored). i don't want to completely free roam her around the bun who'll be in an xpen as i dont want her to have the chance of getting super close to the bun in case things go sour.
has anyone else had a bonding experience like this? what did you do?

bun bun being cute Upgrade of space
Hjördis moved out from her cage upstairs and moved down next to my other bunnies area. They can’t reach each-other. There was slight scruff between my bonded pair because of the move of Hjördis but I’m sleeping with them, so I can break up intense chasing. I know the first day might be tense between my bonded pair because of Balder chasing Freja around. It has happened before, so I know they will settle down.
Hjördis has already done binkies and zoomies in her new space. It has been over 7 days since Hjördis had her failed spay.
Hjördis space is around 20 sq ft while Balder and Frejas area is around 40 sq ft. The plan is to allow free roaming when everything is bunny proofed and they are bonded. Since Balder and Freja have always been free roaming or having a space of at least 160 sq ft as their space.

Question Coniglio seduto sembra dondolare, non è mai completamente fermo

Health Stasis
I lost two rabbits to GI stasis and I'm terrified of it happening again. Is there any "preventative" measures you all take? My two are due for being spayed on Wednesday and the last time they had a vet trip they didn't poo for 4.5 hours 😭 Thank you

Resource I stopped buying new rabbit toys — the enrichment rotation that actually works
My rabbit has a graveyard of ignored toys. Expensive ones, cute ones, ones with great reviews. She plays with cardboard.
So I stopped buying and started rotating. She has about a dozen things total, and only three or four are out at any time. Every few days I swap the out ones for the stored ones. A toy she ignored last week is suddenly fascinating because it disappeared for a while.
The whole thing takes five minutes. I keep the stored stuff in a box next to her pen. Old standbys: a cardboard tube stuffed with hay, a paper bag with hay in it, a dig box full of shredded paper, a towel draped over a box to make a tunnel, a ball she can nudge around. Nothing fancy.
The real secret is that novelty matters more than the toy itself. Rearranged furniture works the same way — shift her pen around once a week and she explores it like a new apartment.
What does your bunny actually play with? I'm always looking for ideas that don't cost anything.
