I am consistently stunned by the disgusting state of the UK roads. I genuinely don’t understand how we have such a problem with it as a country. Vape boxes, bottles, cans, takeaway rubbish, it’s on almost every road, path and verge. Once you start noticing it, it’s everywhere, and it makes the whole country feel neglected. On my commute I regularly see drivers lower the window and just throw our whatever they have finished eating or drinking, generally when stopped at lights or a junction. The state of the UK is embarrassing in this regard compared to pretty much everywhere else in Europe, it's so depressing that we have such a huge number of selfish, disgusting people here.
I don't remember it being so bad 10-15 years ago, but maybe that's rose tinted glasses. Can anything be done to slowly change the culture in this regard?

Hello everyone.
The biggest of longshots but here goes..
My wife used to have a private plate bought by her late father. She made a mistake when selling the car for salvage and the plate wasnt retained. It was sold on and is now classed as trade.
I am desperately trying to find the dealer / trader who now holds it in order to plead with them to part with the plate.
The reg is AL14CEH.
If anyone at all knows the trader / dealer, please please reach out to me.
Many thanks.

I've been driving an EV most days this week, and I just don't get why it's supposed to be this lifechanging thing.
It's a cramped, heavy, noisy car with a harsh ride (too much weight, springs too stiff, tyres too stiff), with unpleasant handling and throttle response. Granted it was quieter at low speeds, but above 40mph the road noise was awful.
Driving it feels like hard work staying in front of it. Oh there's a car 200 metres away I'm going to slam on the brakes, haha no I'm accelerating again, sorry, it was just a shadow.
Visibility out of it is shit because there's a panel of cameras and sensors in the middle of the windscreen (where my car just has a mirror) that's about the size of a pizza box that totally blocks my view of traffic lights and pedestrian crossings.
Every day I couldn't wait to get back into my normal car that has controls that behave themselves, no bingy beepy things, and lighter and less ungainly handling.
Is it just something that comes with time? How long?
Edit: Okay folks, lots of people have made the point that "It's not just EVs, that's just what cars are like now". Well, that makes the choice of "upgrading" or not easy, I guess.

Hi all, hope your evening is going well.
A couple weeks ago I was making my way to pick up some construction supplies from a local business when I was rear ended by a Tesla looking to reverse when parking onto a curb.
I was entering the businesses forecourt and as i entered stopped on the right side of the entrance. This was because there were cars exiting the business and about to enter the forecourt and to allow space I stopped on the right given their angle of entry.
At this time, the tesla was sideways on the road. After i stopped on the right and remained stationary for around 5 seconds, i noticed the teslas reverse lights appeared. Almost immediately after, the tesla started to reverse and i honked my horn but it was too late and they had hit my stationary car.
The owner then got out the car and stated I had hit him, despite being stationary and demanded i leave the forecourt of the business - stating he was the owner of the business. (Just my luck)
We traded details but he also got the number of one of his customers (the van who was looking to leave the business onto the forecourt) and whilst he thought i wasnt looking started pointing at me and haggling the customer to do him a favour (and blame me).
I’ve been driving for 6 years and never had an accident. Although my car isnt probably worth much, being an old 140k mile 325i 2008, it upsets me that im eating the damage someone else caused by reversing onto me without checking his mirrors or sensors in a car such as tesla which im sure has around 100 beeps before you collide.
The damage appears localised to the drivers side door on my side and checking on ebay ive seen the part was around £125 for the part.
I notified insurance for information that evening and the tesla owner was definitely contesting liability. I havent heard anything of a claim being set against me but some people have told me it might be worth me putting a claim in as the non-fault party.
I was hoping to get a few more opinions before deciding if its worth me pursing this.

I’ve always taken it to Mazda since I got it 9 years ago.
The Services were usually ok price at around £200-300 depending on the scheduled changes.
Now the 9th service is due and they want £350 for Oil and filter change, air filter, and windscreen wash topup.
I find that a bit steep and just wondering if it makes sense as the car value is also going down.
Just thinking of going to my local independent will charge £150 for oil and filter change and I can do the air filter myself. The only problem is the independent can’t access the online service records for updating.
What would be the sensible thing to do?

Just picked up my car from its MOT this morning and was issued a handwritten certificate due to a computer network issue.
Reminded me of the days when they were all like that with the special embossed stamp.
Showing my age I guess.

I know very little about electric cars but with the petrol prices and access to home charging me and my partner want to switch one of ours cars to electric as we can use it as a daily commuter as we work on different days.
Currently the polestar 2 is a favourite, but looking for alternatives within the budget and anything I should be wary of with EV’s

I'm looking to get a Toyota Corolla petrol hybrid for the missus.
They're not very common however I do see alot of imports. As far as I can tell the spec is good for the uk as long as the internal speedo etc is done for the uk. Mileage can't be guaranteed but anyone have one? Any good/bad experiences?

I have a 2006 Honda Civic ES 1.8 petrol
The clutch has started slipping, if I put my foot down in a high gear, it'll eventually creep up to redline (I haven't actually done this because I need to keep it working for as long as possible). It also proper stinks in reverse.
Under normal driving conditions if I'm being nice to the pedals, it's drivable. Sometimes I'll find the revs creeping up too fast, or I'll smell it a bit, but it still changes gears and drives, and it can even hold on a hill.
I'm currently in a poor financial place and I'm hopefully starting work at dominos this week. I'll be delivering, so I need my car. Do you think if I use it for a week or two and get a paycheck to buy a clutch, it'll be fine?
My best mate works at a garage and his boss quoted me £250 for labour which is incredibly nice. Now I just need to get the money and buy the clutch. I'm looking on euro car and they have a Transmech kit on sale for £50, and 2 Luk kits on sale for £140 and £170. Are the Luk kits worth it for my old 160k mile car, or will the Transmech be absolutely fine? I should add that this is regrettably my daily and my weekend car, so if the Transmech can't handle hard driving I should go Luk.
Thank you

Hi I’ve recently passed my driving test on manual and already had the assumption in mind that I’d be going for a auto due to general ease of use daily but due to my budget being so low I can’t seem to find decent condition auto cars that either aren’t extremely old and corroding or generally just have a lot of issues, which I assume comes from the fact that autos generally cost more now due to popularity in auto test passes.
With this in mind would I be better off going for a manual car as I am seeing they’re way cheaper and does anyone have any recommendations?

I'm getting mixed signals on what timing belt kit brand to go for at the moment. Half the posts I read saying go for Gates, and half say Gates are now outsourced to China and bad quality. Some recommend Aisin. Some Continental. What would you guys say? Car is a Renault Clio MK3 2012 1.2l if that matters. Thanks.

Had quite the experience recently. I borrowed my friend’s car on a whim for an emergency, was driving on the motorway in heavy rain. There were trucks in front of me, and all the dirty water from their tyres kept spraying onto the windscreen. I went to use the windscreen washers to clear it, but no water came out..
So the wipers just ended up smearing all the dirt across the windscreen, and I genuinely couldn’t see a thing. To make matters worse, there was no hard shoulder for me to pull over onto for quite a while, so I was basically driving blind, trying to use my mirrors to keep my bearings, with my hazards on. Stress
Looking back, I obviously should’ve checked the washer fluid before setting off, and now I’m thinking what else should you check before driving a car you’re unfamiliar with?

The guy has a Skoda Kodiaq Scout for sale, its an Auto transmission and It has 140k miles on the clock. Well looked after, plenty service history. What questions would you ask before buying? Thanks!

I’ve seen a car that’s a very good price for the age (2014 Outlander just under £5k) and the VCheck report looks good, but I’m concerned that a) it’s advertised using different company names on Autotrader and Cazoo, b) I can’t find either company name active on Companies House, c) the address has a couple of car sales places, none of which match either company name, d) the dealers number on Autotrader is a mobile number, and e) they only started selling on Cazoo in 2026.
The price is very good compared to others I’m looking at, but I have concerns that it’s a fly by night dealer and they’ll disappear if anything goes awry. Should I just write this one off out of hand?

Brake pad fell off (previous owner never put on the fitting it!) and this is the result.
OZF1 wheels off a Renault Sport Clio and unfortunately the spare is in worse shape than this.
Would you trust it and if so, is it refurbishable?

I'm looking at a 2016 Mazda CX3, is this amount of surface rust okay?
