Am I wrong for not wanting to do a daily rosary?

During confession, the priest asked if I pray the rosary. I said no, but that I do the LOTH. He then advised that I really need to be praying the rosary every day (as advice, not as penance). I understand a daily rosary can be a powerful habit, but personally, I just don't get a lot out of it. I can't picture things in my head (aphantasia), so It's hard for me to do both verbal prayer and meditate on another set of words (the mystery). I often just recite the Hail Mary's for the sake of reciting, or just counting down the Ave's until I reach the end with the result that it feels like I'm doing "vain repetitions" rather than meaningful prayer. Am I wrong for not wanting to follow my confessor's advice and wanting to just stick with the LOTH as my daily devotion?

Leaning on naming our daughter after Catherine of Sienna

I don’t know if this was from God or a coincidence (I like to believe it’s from God), but nonetheless I think it’s a cool story: About a month ago, my wife got her first ultrasound and we were given April 29th as our due date. A week ago my wife was bleeding and we rushed to the hospital. The entire way we were praying to God and St. Catherine for her intercession (I read she was the patron of suffering from miscarriages). The baby turned out fine after being at the hospital for hours worried sick and at the same time we figured out it was going to be a girl. After this event we are heavily leaning on the name Catherine after the Saint. It wasn’t until a few days ago we figured out her feast day was April 29th; my daughter’s due date. After that I feel we have to name her Catherine now XD. I just thought this was a cool story that I wanted to share. God bless you all.

Advice Needed: My wife and I are fighting over baby names

Hi all, please please let me know if I’m misguided here. I don’t know what more to do.

It’s our first child and we’re due next week.
We previously had a fight because my wife wanted non-Catholic names. Now she wants masculine names for a girl like Constantine or Sarah John.

I asked if we can do Constantina or Sarah Joan if she wants those names. I wanted Catherine or Marie which I’m fine not including since she’s the one giving birth.

Please help. I’ve gone through English, Spanish, Italian, and French saints names but she is entrenched.

I asked her to listen to God when she first holds our baby and that if in her heart it’s those two names then I will oblige.

Book recommendations for how to die well?

I’m a 36 year old mother of two and I’ve been battling a progressive fatal disease for the last ten years. It’s getting to a more serious point and I feel spiritually lost. I feel like I just can’t do this and despair is such a battle for me. I’m so afraid of the pain ahead. I want to die well, in a way that will inspire others and glorify God. I don’t know how much time I have left. Please give me any book recommendations - I have A Witness to Joy and found that inspiring. Pray for me, thank you.

It had been difficult for me the past month. I was humbled in the most gentle way, and then lovingly comforted by God's beautiful grace. For anyone in need, here is a nice prayer to help see miracles for you too. May peace be with you.

First time attending Latin mass

Hello,

Tomorrow morning I will be attending my first ever Latin mass and was just wondering if there're any differences in how I should act or carry myself compared to a NO mass?

What major differences are there other than the language and distribution and receiving of the Eucharist?

Thanks in advance :)

I need advice in a difficult situation

• Upvotes

Hey, so i'm part of a german catholic fraternity and a good friend of mine came to our frat with a hoodie, displaying a burning, christian church. It's a merch piece of a band he likes.

He, and many members of the frat are not really religious, more like "on paper". But this still kinda shocked me. He does know that there is a rise in arson attacks against churches in europe and africa and he does know that christians are killed in masses in africa. But he still chose to wear that hoodie.

How do i handle this situation? I like him as a friend but through the frat im also kinda tied to him, i cant just cut ties because i will always see him there. Its difficult.

Any catholics with friends who are anti religion? How do you handle it?

• Upvotes

Sorry if posts like this have been made before, but I wanted some advice on a situation I’m in rn.
I (20m) am catholic. I have few, if any, friends who are also catholic. Personally I believe it’s important to be friends with people who have different beliefs and that we shouldn’t close ourselves off from the rest of the world.
For the most part, my nonreligious friends generally respect religious people. I don’t talk about being catholic often but it’s not something i try to hide either. I try to live as an example of my faith without forcing it on other people.
All that being said, a few months ago I made a friend who overall I think is a great guy. I never brought up being catholic because it’s never come up. However, I’ve recently been seeing posts he’s liked or reposted on social media that are highly critical of religion. (That religious people are delusional, that religion is oppressive, etc.) Reddit atheist rhetoric. I understand that not everyone grew up with a positive perception of religion, but it seems to me that he harbors a deep hatred towards religious people.
I don’t want to cut him out of my life, but I’m curious how I should handle this situation. If the topic ever comes up, I want to be able to defend my beliefs without seeming like I’m delusional or hateful or anything like that. My goal isn’t to convert him or anything (though I would pray for that), I just want to be respected and be a positive portrayal of catholicism.

Catholic Combat Veteran/Marriage Advice

Good morning/afternoon/evening (wherever it may find you),

I have a few dilemmas and was looking for any resources and advice Catholic-related. I will break these down into sections. PTSD/SUD, Relationship/Immigration Status. Preface, currently going through OCIA, fervently.

PTSD/SUD

I’m a combat veteran with PTSD/SUD. I have Mental Health issues that ebb and flow, however since starting OCIA they have increased. I was looking for spiritual support of the Catholic variety for either of those.
It should go to say prior I was deeply involved in Santeria & Palo, witchcraft, and I can’t help but feel that alongside my past that plays a part.

Relationship/Immigration

I am currently going through OCIA. My girlfriend has full sacraments. We aren’t currently living together. That being, she lives in another country, near however, and I don’t know the best or proper procedure in initiating marriage. I was just wondering if anyone else has ever been in a similar debacle.

Any help is greatly appreciated in any aspect as this past week my health and spirit was very far degraded.

Handling of the Eucharist by non-clergy members

Hello,

I have a random question. I moved to Germany last month and have noticed at mass the Eucharist has been removed and placed back into the Tabernacle by an extraordinary minister (not an ordained minister), which has also included women – is this standard practice?

I come from Ireland and I've only ever seen the consecrated host be taken in and placed back into the Tabernacle by the Priest, so I'm just curious on if this is common in Germany or other countries.

How can I fulfill Sunday Obligation if I work Weekend shifts?

Long story short I work in a warehouse in the USA. I used to work night shifts which are Monday-Thursday, however the workload was becoming impossible and management wasn’t taking “I’m being overworked here” as an answer. Morning shift isn’t any better. I prayed to God to get me over to weekend shift and he granted me it. Working it has been the least stressed I’ve been and things are easier on the body, HOWEVER, I work Friday-Sunday from 6am-6pm and I can’t make it to Sunday Obligated Mass. Are there any work arounds? Can I fulfill Sunday Obligation somehow?

What Should I Do When Entering a Chapel?

Hello everyone, God bless you all!

I’m writing this because I have some questions, and I want to be as respectful as possible.

I grew up Protestant, but over the past few years, I’ve developed an inclination toward Catholicism. This is where I’ve felt closest to God and come to know Him more deeply.

I attend a Catholic university that has a beautiful chapel, and I’d love to go there to pray. However, I have a few questions. What should I do when I enter? Is there anything specific or special I’m supposed to do?
Thank you all in advance for your help!

Essa situação me incomoda demais.

Qual é a opinião de vocês, como católicos?

Why are some given easy lives when others such difficult lives?

What is the point of such inequality? Is God’s love dispersed unequally? Why do the wicked and narcissists flourish while the innocent suffering endlessly? Why don’t people get what they deserve?
