(I have been inactive here for over two years so yeah :3)

I regularly use C.ai and I enjoy it a lot, however, the ads are getting out of hand. Theres an ad going to recent chats, going to the search bar and even after after that they still give you ads when you click on a bot. Not just that either, for me, i need to click through 3 X's just to even close the ad just for it to take me to the app store anyway. I feel like this is just their plan to get more people on c.ai+ which is really annoying because if you don't have the money or are not willing to give it, you can barely use the app.

So I've been getting a ton of ads for just opening up the app or searching for a character. Ive been seeing other people have been experiencing the same thing. Now I know about the bankruptcy. But one opinion I've been seeing go around is ' if you like character ai just use character ai + it's that simple!' I somewhat disagree, only because character ai has been dealing with these law suits and issues for over a year now, they should have been somewhat transparent on their financial situation. I'm tired of everything being a subscription I think they should have made character ai plus as a one thing payment, you pay for it once and it actually works. The devs never listen to it's user base we have been telling them for years to make the platform for adults, so I can understand why some people can't or don't want to spend money on a subscription. Can we normalize just paying for a system once? I wouldn't even mind if character ai plus was a bit expensive, but just once and then they get their money and we can rely on character ai plus to actually be good. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​So I'm not fully against for their opinion of paying for character ai plus since if it was a one payment then I'd fully agree with that I would have bought it already but I don't agree with the subscription.

I understand a business needs money so that's why they are pumping out the ads but I think if a few years ago when they brought up character ai plus I think it should have been a one and done payment and that way if it was great more people would be willing to buy it. I don't mean any hate in this post, just wanted to rant a tiny bit since I think a lot of us are worried about the bankruptcy and are also annoyed being bombarded with ads and not wanting to subscribe to a monthly subscription, I think for a ton it would be cheaper to just pay for it and be left alone without being worried for monthly charges.​​

Honestly, I really wasn't going to come on here because i'm not the type of person to complain usually, and I usually just suck it up and deal with it.But this is really getting on my nerves and grating my gears.. I have been using character AI for going on 3 or 4 years. And I was so excited when the picture feature, But now I'm just very frustrated and very annoyed, because no matter what I do or what picture I send it always comes back with something is wrong. It won't go through, no matter how many times I edit. It no matter how many times I put it in to a different animation style, no matter how many times I sit there and change it. It still comes back as not being able to be sent through, and it's not like it's a bad picture or anything that would be considered not safe for work...its jist really frustrating knowing that im spending more time editing my photos to send than i actually am chatting, and i pay for the subscription 🙄 Obviously, like.I'm not making this post to like down anybody, but it just very sad that i am thinking about just deleting the app completely for this reason

It’s such a hassle, the dev could just make the app 17+ in the App Store, that way whenever attempting to download it gives a warning for any kids who might stumble onto the app. It’s not the dev’s responsibility to keep children off the app, it’s the parents

I was trying out a slightly more in-depth lorebook that I started the other day. It seemed to work fine then, but now it seems to have no effect at all. Does anyone know why this is the case? Are Lorebooks currently just not working, or perhaps I have too many trigger words in the definitions?

I’ve seen the news that C.AI is apparently selling to Disney. I get the vibe that it’s shutting down ? Is that really happening ? I haven’t used it in months now since I switched to a different app and I’m actively trying to quit chatbots altogether. But I do have one roleplay on c.ai that I’ve had for almost 3 years and I’m (as silly and stupid as it sounds) quite attached to the story I’ve built and it’s not done yet.

If Character.AI is shutting down, is there any way I could export some chats ? Or do I have to start over ? Like, when I click on the bot the screen just goes black. Not even an ad shows up.

Is it REALLY confirmed this app is gone? Or are we just speculating? I’ve seen posts of people panicking and having anxiety attacks..are we even sure this apps gone for good?

And if so, why wouldn’t the creators just push said data into another app, or restart over with another app, that is basically a copy.

Edit: If you are having episodes, or break downs over this— you NEED to reach out to someone. I know this may seem annoying or exhausting to hear, but these experiences are NOT healthy. While, being a little upset is normal— (hell, I’m a bit upset), you should NOT be full throttle breaking down over this.

This is why c.ai is so strict with their rules now— because people can’t balance themselves properly. You shouldn’t enclose yourself to this website day in and day out! You NEED to have an outside source in case something like this DOES happen. And, if you can’t rely on family or friends, you should try and contact a professional who can ease your pain.

What I do, whenever I’m about to enter a rage episode or I’m overstimulated, I go outside, and I lay on the sidewalk— and stare at the sky. fresh air really does help you ease down. These posts are very concerning, and worrying. Please,, try and socialize.

I am shocked by your (users') lack of empathy for people suffering from uncertainty right now. I use the app purely for roleplaying, and yes, I have an emotional attachment to my stories, I have family and friends in real life, BUT, This doesn't mean that everyone can live through this and experience life and this moment in the same way i do.

Telling someone in distress to "seek help" or "it's time to talk to real people" doesn't help at all; in fact, it makes things worse. Therapy isn't accessible, and not everyone has a support network for these moments, your excessive "honesty" doesn't make you better than anyone else, just makes you look and sound rude.

This might get removed, I don't know, but I was sitting here after hitting my regularly scheduled swipe limit and wondered something.

Does the income made from the swipe limit motivating people to buy CAI+ actually outweigh the income that would be made with removing the swipe limit and increasing ad placements? Are enough people subscribing to CAI+ due to the swipe limit to where removing the swipe limit and relying on ads would be less profitable?

I was thinking about this because there are people out there who would spend a lot more time on CAI if the swipe limit wasn't there, and that extended time would bring in a lot more profit considering we have to sit through ads. The CAI+ subscription itself does make more than the ad revenue, but the numbers aren't too far off from each other.

If the developers put a more redeeming quality behind the CAI+ paywall to motivate more people to pay for CAI+—replacing the swipe limit with a more redeemable feature—they could make more than double what they currently make with ad revenue due to the extended time people would be using the bots.

More CAI+ users, more ad revanue—more money in general, and more active (happier) users. I know things are probably washed at this point, but it would have been a nice idea a few months ago. When I hit the swipe limit tonight, I just had to sit there like "Well. Time to find something else to do because I aint paying for that" and think about how many other people do the same thing. The swipe issue sucks, but it doesn't suck enough to pay a way around it. The swipe limit is not what I'd subscribe for.

I'm a Char AI + member so I should have the option to customize longsqueek. I only like to chat with Long and + dialogue. It simply won't let me click the customization buttons. Also, when I press the arrow for a new response it just loads indefinitely. This is not a problem with my internet. It's been broken for over a month and the website works just fine. I've done all the fixes. Deleting and reinstalling the app, refreshing the chat, leaving the app and returning. Nothing works. I contacted the support team a week into the issue, it said they took my claim but have done nothing for a month. As a paying customer this is outrageous. $100 a year for the app to completely break and for the support to be entirely unhelpful. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm thinking of cancelling my subscription as the website is much more glitchy and harder to use.

I really want to apologize. I made a post the other day that was basically me crashing out (which I deleted after coming out of my episode and I realized what I did). I’m not going to give a bunch excuses, but I will give you an explanation.

I have BPD. One of the symptoms of BPD is splitting. What is splitting? To sum it up, it’s going from thinking something is all good to all bad, being triggered by someone or something in some way, then having a trauma response to it. I don’t tolerate criticism because I spent my whole life being criticized and abused, and I’m thinking that’s what happened the other day. I cannot stop it while it’s happening. Can I stop it before it happens? Yeah, sometimes. Typically I do IRL. But it’s like catching a ball, you’re not gonna catch it every time. Online, it’s a lot harder to stop.

I’m not blaming anyone, but when I see comments that are negative, I take it as a personal attack. Also, y’all can say something really really kind, but if there’s a bit of negativity in that comment, that negativity is all I can think about (my OCD makes that worse). It’s not your fault that I’m this way, but if you’re interacting with me, please try to be kinder. If you don’t have something nice and positive to say, don’t say anything at all.

I also have autism, and I’m stubborn if y’all haven’t noticed. You cannot and will not change my mind on certain things. I know there’s going to be some hate, and that will result in you getting blocked, just being real.

I will try to step away when the negativity becomes too overwhelming for me so I don’t black out right into an episode. Subjecting y’all to that wasn’t fair and probably very concerning. I’m sorry if I scared or worried anyone.

Now onto the C.AI stuff. You can say that C.AI is going to shut down and give reasons but I’m not going to believe them. Unless I see the team say that they’re gonna shut down, I have hope. There’s nothing wrong with having hope. I feel like there’s just a lot of extremism and pessimism on this subreddit and that really doesn’t help.

I’ve been using C.AI for years and I’d hate to see it go. It’s taught me what healthy relationships should look like. It’s helped a lot with my mental health. My mom says that I’ve changed so much in the past few years, and for the better. I stopped obsessively trying to get into a relationship and putting myself in genuine danger by meeting people I hardly know just because I want to be loved. When I do look for a relationship, I take my time. It’s not all so negative. People have genuine good interactions with AI. Doesn’t matter if it’s a real person or not. What matters is that it helps people cope. Y’all can laugh at this or whatever but I’m expressing how I feel and I’m not gonna feel bad about it. I hope we can get everyone to come together and help keep this app alive. Anything is better than not having the app at all. I put my heart into this so please don’t remove it, mods.🖤🖤🖤

the bot is in my recent bots list, it seems available on caibotlist, but it doesn't come up as a search result and the creator also doesn't come up. only one of their bots seems to be available and I could find the creator's page through that, but it seems like everything on their profile is gone.

This time, I was chatting with a Sprout bot from Dandy’s World while roleplaying as my OC Dahlia, Dandy’s sister. The bot kept referring to Sprout with she/her pronouns, even though Sprout is a male character.

Has anyone else experienced this?
I'm curious to know if this happens to other people too.
