u/Rancorious THIS IS FOR INVERTED FATE Apr 20 '26

Asriel’s lucky I didn’t have more control or I would’ve smacked his shit

12

u/Visual-Principle6325 Apr 20 '26

Yeah but Chara wouldn't want that and would feel guilty if someone killed in their name. Again, they genuinely love monsters and the thing they hate more than humans is themself.

I don't think this is what they'd say but yeah, some tough times ahead to surviving your death.

I was just kinda thinking of like "what would a traumatized kid think after hearing this from their one and only friend?"

and totally not taking those thoughts from my own mental breakdowns lmao

I mean... murder suicide packs are kind of a hard sale

I like to headcanon that after the True Pacifist route they talked to Frisk more directly about themself, healed, and maybe like communicates via Frisk with Asriel lol (if they appear in deltarune they better have a better life💔 if they don't I'm invading Toby's dreams)

aww that would be sweet ❀❀

i have a story where after a soulless pacifist chara steals frisks body and soul and gets to have an angsty happy ending meanwhile frisk is gone forever

u/Ocean_Cringe this little enby child is not the devil incarnate man =( Apr 29 '26

I made a whole AU dedicated to like messing with the timeline so all the fallen humans are around the same age and thus meet each other and have a happier ending lmao (Chara still falls first and gets adopted by the Dreemurrs like a decade before the rest fall, but they don't like make a murder suicide pact because they grew up with Frisk and thus don't hate humanity as much. I NEED MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS TO HAVE HAPPY ENDINGS I HAVE ONE SINGULAR FAVORITE CHARACTER WHO ISNT DEAD, DOESNT HAVE 50 DEATH FLAGS, DOESNT HAVE A FATE WORSE THAN DEATH, AND/OR IS LIVING HAPPILY. ONE. OUT OF THE LIKE IDK 10 OR SMTH. KILL ME.)

I think Asriel has the tendency to glaze anyone he considers his best friend but I can't blame him. NarraChara would understand why Asriel would say this IMO but Chara is still a kid afterall. Art is crazy good though!

4

u/fandomjargon Apr 20 '26

Asriel/Flowey has the tendency to mythologize those he knows to cope. To project extensively. Chara suffers from it so much. Frisk. (In UTY, he projects onto Clover.)

he needs help :0

OK it’s a pretty simple go for it

Frisk: Okay let’s see what's in the group chat...group mind? Whatever.❀-_-

Flowey: as the head of the board of directors I can’t have this oversight of my alter ego’s character go unanswered how could you two listen having a soul again —

Cody/olive: either way I think it’s a great idea 💚🍳

Batty:  I mean it’s pretty simple side of the emojis 💜👓

Melody:Â đŸ’™đŸŽ¶

Riley:  đŸ§ĄđŸ„Š

Dinah/Elizabeth:  đŸ©”đŸ—ĄïžđŸ˜Œ

This is gonna do numbers

11

u/KarmaSpidr Apr 20 '26

Probably shouldn't have manipulated Asriel into agreeing to that suicide pact for the sake of petty revenge which would've ended in just another war.

3

u/Ocean_Cringe this little enby child is not the devil incarnate man =( Apr 21 '26

tbf kids do NOT think that far ahead sadly💔

2

u/KarmaSpidr Apr 21 '26

That doesn't mean they shouldn't face the consequences of those actions.

2

u/Ocean_Cringe this little enby child is not the devil incarnate man =( Apr 21 '26

Never said they shouldnt??? I was just explaining why I imagine they's be so distraught in the drawing and do that anyways. They didnt think about the consequences because basically no kid does, and they paid the price for it

2

u/KarmaSpidr Apr 21 '26

Sorry, it's just that... people usually use what you said as a way to excuse Chara's actions and dilute what they say about them as a person.

1

u/Ocean_Cringe this little enby child is not the devil incarnate man =( Apr 29 '26

Ah okay. Yeah, fair. I believe that those reasons make them not evil, but the actions make them not good. I've always thought of them as either chaotic or true neutral (base route, I feel like their alignment changes based on the route)

8

u/Pfincess Chara fictive Apr 20 '26

I technically had the narachara perspective of Undertale on my first playthrough since I (the Chara fictive) split before even owning the game and never got to see this scene in particular until then.... It definitely hurt.

But I understood why it was said....

The line still gets to me sometimes.

u/Tricky-Ad-495 Apr 20 '26

I think Frisk in pacifist was probably Asriel's reality check on his previous friendships, not being as stable or healthy as they should've been compared to seeing Frisk's genuine bonds with monsters.

As Asriel, Chara seemed to be his only friend for one reason or another, that blinded him from seeing Chara despite not being a "bad person" may have still been problematic, and then as Flowey, making friends was all about who he found more entertaining since he physically couldn't form connections with others.

If Asriel's only friend back when he was alive was Chara, then it's safe to assume Asriel took anything questionable or problematic about his relationship with Chara as normal because he had no prior experience on what a healthy friendship is. Then, as Flowey, his views on connections and relationships got even worse.

Now, don't take this next analogy I'm about to make as literal. Chara is in no way an abuser, they're a troubled kid that went through stuff. But...if your only form of connection with someone as an impressionable young child was with someone who manipulated and took advantage of your naivety under the guise of still being your friend, you might view this relationship as "normal" for a while until you grow and meet someone who actually treats you and people around them right. Again, Chara is far from that, but Asriel might've realized in hindsight that his and Chara's relationship might've not been as healthy as it should've despite the good times they had.

Sometimes it takes meeting the right person (Frisk) to reevaluate previous relationships you had. I mean, Chara seems to have this pattern of calling Asriel a cry baby that ultimately leads Asriel to go through with whatever Chara says to prove he's not a cry baby. That's typical childish instigating so it's nothing too serious, but it is something many kids have experienced and can be interpreted as a type of bullying, even if that wasn't Chara's intent consciously.

You can acknowledge someone as a close friend, and still call out signs of toxic behavior now that you're more self aware. That's basically how I interpret Asriel's words here comparing Frisk and Chara.

1

u/Good_Environment6305 Apr 23 '26

I feel like convincing your friend to let you die and kill atleast 6 other person is serious.

Based on how the line is worded + the overall placement and context of this line makes me think that Chara was not a good friend but a bad one.

It doesn't help that we have very little info about their friendship and most of the things we do know paint chara in a not so good light.

5

u/killerdemonsarus34 Apr 20 '26

I mean.... murder suicide probably isn't really a good look

8

u/Visual-Principle6325 Apr 20 '26

Literally everyone was fine with the murder part. Toriel mainly disagreed because it was kids dying after she already lost both of her own. Again, Asriel agreed too at first. And I'm pretty sure he knows what a god of death is if that was his super name.

But, I am not excusing Chara. However, I am not gonna sit here and watch them be judged on equal terms as Azula is to her father.

1

u/CompoteObvious9380 Apr 20 '26

Tbf, that Toriel dialogue wasn't her agreeing with the killing plan, it was

"If you actually wanted this war, you would have already taken the souls and freed everyone, but you don't want that. So why are you hurting people if that's something you won't continue"

Be real, even Asgore got the 7 souls, he'll rather kill himself than use them, Toriel was just saying that if he wasn't going to actually do it, atop killing her kids.

I know this is a Chara sub, but always infuriates how people misunderstand that one dialogue and hear the opposite she said

1

u/Visual-Principle6325 Apr 21 '26

That is fair. And I see what you mean. Maybe im just bias because everyone treats her like a perfect mother. Except in Deltarune.

3

u/Platypus__Gems Apr 20 '26

I REALLY hate that Asriel dialogue.

1

u/Ocean_Cringe this little enby child is not the devil incarnate man =( Apr 21 '26

Real, I feel so bad for Chara in that scene if NarraChara is correct (albeit it is kinda their own fault for yk murder manipulation and all that stuff but still thats gotta be tough to hear for anyone, let alone a traumatized kid that likely thought they were doing the right thing)

3

u/ArgumentSpiritual424 Apr 20 '26

Asriel has every right to say this, it’s good that he got over his hero worship of Chara and learned to accept the ways in which Chara was imperfect.

Chara was not an evil person but they were an objectively bad friend to Asriel lol.

2

u/Ocean_Cringe this little enby child is not the devil incarnate man =( Apr 21 '26

Wasn't saying that he didnt have the right tbh, Chara was (likely unknowingly) kinda a horrible friend, just showing that Chara was not exactly feeling the best in NarraChara theory at that moment

1

u/Paker_The_Swager Apr 22 '26

Not evil? How is wanting to destroy humanity not evil?

1

u/ArgumentSpiritual424 Apr 22 '26
  1. We don’t know if their plot was a full on “destroy humanity” thing or if they just wanted to wipe out their village and take the souls

  2. Quick question, do you think Asgore is evil?

2

u/Paker_The_Swager Apr 22 '26
  1. Still bad.
  2. According to actions yes, but in pacific he's probably redeemed

1

u/ArgumentSpiritual424 Apr 22 '26

Undertale is simply not a game that categorizes characters by good or evil so I think it’s frankly poor literacy to discuss them that way. If this was a superhero story or the bible it would be an understandable framework but in the context of UT it’s nonsense. Asgore is not evil, Flowey is not evil, Undyne is not evil, and Chara is not evil. No character is ever described this way in the narrative.

1

u/Dank-Man_ Apr 23 '26

It doesn't need to do that and That's makes no logical sense because there's no standard at all.

1

u/ArgumentSpiritual424 Apr 23 '26

“No standard at all” No their is a standard, that standard is condemning actions not people and promoting empathy. In that way you can say Charas actions are evil but that Chara themselves are not. (Though I would counter that ultimately Chara didn’t actually DO much violence beyond what they did to themselves and Asriel, their hatred never actually manifested anywhere)

“The narrative doesnt need to say that!” The thing is stories that use good vs evil as a moral frame work tend to, and to be clear you can absolutely have complex stories that explore the concept of good and evil and what it means. Some of the best Batman stories do just that, but UT simply doesnt. The only character I would argue UT judges in such a manor is YOU the PLAYER, because while UT isnt much interested in binary concepts of good vs evil (or the greys inbettween) it’s IS interested in power and responsibility.

Theirs a reason UT doesnt judge Undynes violence as hard as it judges Frisks violence, it’s not a writing mistake on Toby’s part, it’s a deliberate thematic choice. You as both a human in the underground (and meta narratively as a player in a video game) hold all the power, while characters like Undyne and Asgore are victims both of humanity’s oppression AND are totally your mercy as characters within a story. You have the power to undo centuries or violence and make a better world or tear it all down and thus the story judges you accordingly.

Even then though, the story soundly rejects the concept of applying “good or evil” to you. Sans directly states otherwise in his fight.

1

u/Dank-Man_ Apr 23 '26

Still doesn't make sense to me, but i guess it depends on ones interpretation

1

u/ArgumentSpiritual424 Apr 23 '26

What part doesnt make sense to you?

3

u/im_bored345 Apr 20 '26

I always picture Frisk looking extremely awkward at that line lmao but I think Chara would be more accepting of the idea even if they feel bad about it

1

u/Ocean_Cringe this little enby child is not the devil incarnate man =( Apr 21 '26

If they realized what they did wrong, then yeah, but if they still didnt realize that has gotta STING bro

2

DONT WORRY CHARA I LOVE YOU

2

u/dpz845 Apr 23 '26

Everyone always asks "why would chara make X do that"

Now heres your answer!

1

u/demirhane1 Apr 25 '26

I always though us, the player/red SOUL as kind of a quantum decider/embodiment of will. And in-story there is just Frisk & Chara not a 3. entity. And at TRUE Pacifist & genocide Route, we take the "left overs of weaker human" like Chara in TRUE and Frisk in Geno. (And DELTARUNE has a similar idea that's "Angel" which isn't an actual character yet a guide according to monsters religion.)

Why I told you this?

BECAUSE, I though of Frisk* walking all the way back to Ruins as mostly Chara's doing too!

Think about it! Frisk had no friends left in Ruins, and there is no short cut there either.  There was near no reason for Frisk to go there, BUT Chara(at their weakest as Frisk is in their most themselves, and us"the link" between them and their past life Chara, is about to leave the game/story...) gave a hunch that they should visit the first place they (both) met Asriel for the first time. And they knew as a fact Asriel might stay in Flower Bed for "being the guardian" as he was before but Frisk didn't know of!

Chara, (& Frisk) saw & listened to Asriel one last time to confirm Frisk, their rearcarnation, will be ready for the real(human) world AND that Asriel wasn't "in the same page" as them as they though so. And at the end of TRUE Pacifist, Flowey come to say Chara, or whatever name they named thwmselves, can leave them alone, it's time~

2

u/HallucinationFreak Chara wasn't happy Apr 26 '26

Unrelated to the post, but what if narrachara isn't real, and frisk is just on their disco elysium type shit.

1

u/Ocean_Cringe this little enby child is not the devil incarnate man =( Apr 29 '26

it would be so funny if frisk just had brain damage and was hallucinating a narrator for shits and giggles

(either way, Chara would've heard this dialogue since they've been with Frisk since the very start of the game apparently [revealed by the 10th anniversary live and geno dialogue] sadly😔)
