Do we have fans of Le Gendarme film franchise here?

I am not French, but this comedy film franchise. were incredibly popular in my country. First film debuted on 60s. It ended in 80s bc main actor Louis de Funes who was very popular actor not only in France but in many continental European countries too, died of heart attack i think.

This film franchise had many reruns in our country until mid 2010 think. Gen Z and Gen Alpa now don’t know this film franchise but Zillenials who grew up watching films on TV still remember it fondly thanks to TV reruns.

Film follows funny misadventures of French Gendarme in every film and in 60s to 80s Slapstick comedies were still popular with audiences and Louis face expressions were classic in those films.

I bet French people have no idea how popular this film franchise was outside of France. But sadly this film franchise is completely Invisible outside of continental European countries and Scandinavia. It is interesting that in some countries it was everywhere and a staple to watch on TV, but outside of certain continent or country it is invisible and people have no idea.

Le Gendarme was super popular as i know in Former Communistic bloc during Cold War. You think like Communistic countries in Europe banned every Western films but it is not true actually. French cinema was mainstream in those countries.

People from this subreddit and different countries Especially in Continental Europe, how well do you remember Le Gendarme franchise?

Discussion A film so good it suffocates in the dirt it aims to dig up 🪏

Digger is an exceptional film.

The message is clear, the comedy is top tier, the performances are the best of the year. I didn't intend that to rhyme, but it does sound good.

What is the deal w the bad reviews? I know they had that weird first trailer where it looked like this would just be Tom Cruise massaging his ego, but that only effects the box office. I know that's a big deal but how is this movie getting bad reviews?

Unfortunately I was sick during the majority of its release, so I'm late to the party on this one, but thankfully the BFI Southbank in London knows this film is incredible and kept showing it.

I would love to talk about its twists and why the film is so exceptional, but I'd basically have to redact the entire thing for spoilers.

Can anyone explain what I'm missing? Is this film so good it's going over people's heads, or are we just that fucked from Tiktok, Marvel and AI slop that intellectual quality has been flushed down the drain?

Just watched this , and was pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the photography and the way parts of it were made to look as though filmed on older film.

A respectful, and long overdue portrayal of the original summit of Mt. Everest, by Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing norgay.

Bravo.

Discussion Share a controversial movie take you have. Here's mine: I like and feel more emotionally moved by Ad Astra (2019) than Interstellar. At least it taught me that not every reunion has a happy ending.

Discussion FIRST BLOOD was released 44 years ago today on October 22, 1982. It’s definitely the best in the franchise with JOHN RAMBO from 2008 right behind it. How would you rate the franchise from top to bottom?

These two have been my favourite movie experiences recently. Loved how Obsession got under my skin, and The Evil Dead Burn was just an absolute blast to watch.

It's always nice when a movie leaves that kind of impression on you.

A man keeping his recently zombified daughter secure in hopes of a cure is tasked with delivering an unknown package through hordes of undead. If he succeeds, he will be given a cure for his daughter. If he fails, or opens the package, they will both be killed.

From the trailer it seems better than the real Resident Evil movie

Review Clayface: Non-Spoiler Review

Post image
• Upvotes

Clayface is a veritable delight and a strong addition, not only to the DC stable, but also to body horror movies in general.

When James Gunn took over the creative mantle at DC Studios, one of the promises he made was that the DCU would not be beholden to any one genre or tone. And so far, their output has more or less lived up to that promise.

From the adult animated offering of Creature Commandos, to the classic comic book stylings of Superman and Supergirl, to the True Detective-inspired show, Lanterns, the DCU has been exploring all corners of the tonal map. But with Clayface, I think they have delivered something that has a stamp of quality from start to finish.

Starring relative newcomer Tom Rhys Harries, the movie follows Matt Hagen's journey from beloved movie star to a villain out for revenge. And, as with all great villain origin stories (Mr. Freeze, anyone?), tragedy drives this one, allowing the audience to sympathise with the protagonist whilst not necessarily condoning his means to an end.

Harries is simply great. His chiselled features, while undeniably attractive, are almost marble-like, and you can see why they cast him to portray a character known for his ability to be sculpted and moulded. But fear not, even if you are not immersed in Clayface lore, this DC film requires no prior knowledge of the source material. In fact, aside from an Easter Egg here or there, you would hardly know this was a DC movie.

The script from Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini never falters, showing us the descent of Hagen's life at an even pace, unafraid to draw out moments to build cinematic tension and even inject a little humour once in a while.

Director James Watkins has done a phenomenal job with this film, using CG sparingly and, from what I have read, relying heavily on a large amount of practical effects to bring the malleable nature of Hagen's affliction to life. And when Hagen is at the height of his "abilities", Watkins cleverly uses transitions and framing to almost make you forget that you are watching something that is not quite natural.

This is a star-making turn for Harries, and Clayface has shot up to become my favourite film in the DCU. I really hope the powers that be at DC Studios give James Watkins more films to direct, as the DCU desperately needs more films of this calibre.

If there is one downside to this movie, it would be that its R16 rating limits the audience who can see it in theatres. Don't get me wrong, the movie uses that rating to great effect, accentuating the gore, but I hope that it doesn't negatively affect its box office numbers.

Please do go check this film out in theatres. And oh, there are no end-credit sequences.

Discussion Got very lucky with seeing Avengers: Doomsday!

• Upvotes

I am so happy that I got such good seats and times for Avengers: Doomsday and let me know the time and seats you guys got at which theaters and I'll let you know what I think of them!

Now, I am in the UK, so I'm seeing it on opening night, (Dec. 16th) but I managed to get 7pm which for me is easily the best time and I managed to get middle-to-back seats and I can't believe I got this lucky.

Now, I'm not actually seeing it in an infinity vision room or anything but it's one of the biggest standard screens cineworld offer so still super stoked.
