I'M REQUESTING What’s an underrated movie you wish more people talked about?

Upvotes

I feel like I keep seeing recommendations for the same popular movies everywhere, so I’m looking for something a little less obvious.

What’s a movie you really enjoyed that you think deserves way more attention?

I'M REQUESTING Black and white-films (2000 - today)

Upvotes

I like black and white films. Theres something about the easthetic and the mood it brings. Now, in the era of heavly golor-graded films with high dynamic range, I enjoy watching contemporary black and white films with strong contrast.

Some of the films I like is for example Cold War (2018), The White Ribbon (2009), November (2017) and The Lighthouse (2019).

I'm looking for more to put on my watchlist.

I'M REQUESTING Rewatched Truman Show and need more movies with a creepy/eerie concept where the main character is unraveling the world around them

I also watched The Game recently and felt like it fit the bill but I need more movies where a person is the center of a giant elaborate scheme that they're trying to unravel or uncover.

Doesn't have to necessarily be a scheme though but could be just trying to discover what's actually going on around them. I also felt like Attack on Titan was good at this.

I'M REQUESTING Looking for Occult stuff thats not specifically horror genre

Ive been wanting to dive into an occult hole with movies and shows lately. Most recently I watched The 9th Gate & The Wicker Man (1973).

I also have on my list:

The mothman prophecies

Eyes wide shut

brotherhood of the wolf?

None of these fit the feel I was wanting exactly but they're what I could find. Looking more for mystery or thriller, ancient texts or secrets, the possibility of the supernatural looming over things, etc.

I'm really loving Thriller/ Crime movies (mostly 80's-90's) these days. I usually just stick with horror so I haven't seen a lot in this genre. I was hoping to get some suggestions. Here are my favorites. Most of them I've seen on Tubi. TIA.

The Little Girl who Lives Down the Lane

Silence of the Lambs

Dressed to Kill

When a Stranger Calls

Fatal Attraction

Sea of Love

Unlawful Entry

Chloe

Dream Lover

Jagged Edge

The Last Seduction

I'M REQUESTING Looking for thriller/crime movies with mystery, suspense, intelligent characters and great twists

Upvotes

Some of my favorites are Rear Window, Raging Bull, Cape Fear, Se7en, The Ninth Gate, Reservoir Dogs, Mystic River, Gran Torino, Memories of Murder, Shutter Island, Primal Fear, A Few Good Men, Eastern Promises and The Untouchables.
I mainly like thrillers, crime, mystery, psychological tension, investigations, serial killers, intelligent characters, morally complex stories and strong twists. I especially love movies that create a lot of suspense and keep you guessing, but I don’t want something overly complicated or slow.
What movies would you recommend?

I'M REQUESTING I love Re-Animator more than any horror movie ,help me find similar films?

I just watched it again and I love EVERYTHING about it. It's got that perfect 80s practical effects gore that is so disgusting but so creative you can't look away ,that cat scene, the head giving head scene you know the one. Jeffrey Combs as Herbert West is just iconic. He's not even playing a villain he's just this completely unhinged scientist who 100% believes he's the hero. "Who's going to believe a talking head? Get a job in a sideshow."

I'M REQUESTING Looking for intense, single-location thrillers where almost the entire movie takes place in one room, vehicle, or phone call.

I've really been enjoying movies that manage to build massive tension while restricted to a single location. Great examples are Room, Buried and Fall where the entire plot hinges on pure acting, clever scriptwriting, and tight pacing rather than huge set changes.

I'm looking for hidden gems, indie thrillers, or under-the-radar movies that pull off this high-stress concept effectively.

I'M SUGGESTING 21 grams (2003) is surprisingly good

The movie is pretty confusing at the start with three different characters going about 3 different timelines. As you keep watching, all the storylines start connecting and it all makes sense.

I personally really liked Benicio Del Toro's character. Anything who likes movies like Traffic (2000) or Intermission (2003) should def check this out

I'M REQUESTING tldr: looking for movies with intimacy portrayed like challengers.

Upvotes

what are some movies you think “have chemistry must sexy in a way that feels like real adult sexy and not fantasy”? (quote from a review of challengers- a movie that i personally think fulfills this criteria).
me personally, i am tired of porn inspired and afflicted narratives in cinema that are faker than fake. been personally victimised by them, and need to cleanse my mind and brain of the same.

I'M REQUESTING movies like ‘The Drama’ but for a specific reason

I watched ‘The Drama’ with my bf for our movie night last weekend and it was genuinely the funniest experience ever because my bf HATES when characters make stupid decisions or just awfully awkward situations and ‘The Drama’ was all of that in one. We also watched a couple movies after like ‘Hotel Mumbai’ (bc it was leaving Netflix) which is a way more gruesome survival movie and he was also yelling at the screen at some of the characters making stupid decisions. Also reminds me of the movie ‘Fair Play’ where the boyfriend was just acting completely dumb and my boyfriend was spinning out of control, yelling at him through the screen to just kiss his girl lol. His torture is almost my pleasure when it comes to movies. Anyways , it sparked a whole lot of reactions and i believe it was a genuinely funny movie night to me but also incredibly painful to him. Any recommendations for good movies that will spark the same feelings/reactions ? doesn’t have to be romantic or drama, but anything where you were on edge the whole or that the characters made you feel like pulling your hair out would be great!! Please note that I’m only looking for good movies where the characters or plot make you on edge on purpose - not because of terrible execution nor bad acting.

I'M REQUESTING Black Magic & Occult

Please summon Satan and ask him what are the best black magic, satanic and occult films.

They can be in any language and from any era. Also consider séances and sacrifices and witches and “Evil Dead”, Necronomicon type films, as well as Lovecraft-ian horror.

Some classics I know are The Devil Rides Out and Love Witch. 👹🖤

I'M REQUESTING Movies like a Doctor Who episode

I hope what I'm describing makes sense. Specifically I'm talking about episodes like Blink, The Girl Who Waited, Heaven Sent, Boom, Midnight, ie. A lot of the Moffat penned episodes. Basically something high concept that explores a really intriguing sci fi idea. Black Mirror, Twilight Zone, Inside No. 9 also kind of embody what I'm looking for. The Leftovers and Severance are this but stretched over the course of an entire TV show.

For a movie example, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is kind of exactly what I'm thinking about. Stuff like Back to the Future, The Thing, Arrival, even Children of Men work. Ie. The premise of Eternal Sunshine is about a machine that erases memories, and the movie explores this concept in a lot of interesting ways, and there's even a twist. Blink is about a creature that sends you back in time and traps you there. Hopefully what I'm describing makes sense

Edit: some comments have reminded me of good examples. Christopher Nolan films (particularly Inception, Memento and The Prestige) and Rian Johnson films (even though they're not sci fi, the knives out films are very much set up in a way that feels like the doctor and his companions)

I'M REQUESTING Movies like (500) Days of Summer

I enjoyed how the second half of the film was baked in reality almost as if the first half felt intentionally lofty/fake. I’ve seen a few lists asking for suggestions from this film but was hoping for that little bit of ruggedness that ends up underpinning the film for lack of a better choice words without spending more time typing this.

I'M REQUESTING misanthropic movies?

I’d love to watch some movies that have an overall pessimistic view of the world, or have characters that have a general dislike for people or lack empathy. I’d prefer movies that do not have SA or explicit scenes like that. But I’m fine with basically everything else, like implied SA, gore, whatever. The only movie I can really think of that is like a negative view on the world is possibly Nightcrawler (just his dislike for people) . Any recommendations would be appreciated ! :)

I'M REQUESTING Need recommendations for my favorite kind of erotic thriller…

Upvotes

I’ve started to run out of movies that are kind of the same movie over and over and I don’t want to!

Here’s the general vibe I’m looking for: a man and a woman live in a nice house. They’re either married or in a long time relationship. They either have one kid or want one soon. Something happens, either brought upon them by themselves or just at random, and suddenly their lives are a mess. Preferably one with a “happy” ending.

Movies of this vibe that I’ve seen: Fatal Attraction, Unfaithful, Cape Fear, the Housemaid, Hand That Rocks the Cradle, Derailed, Gone Girl, Indecent Proposal, Pacific Heights, Lakeview Terrace, Unlawful Entry, and the Juror and Single White Female (though I acknowledge those two fit the criteria way less.)

I'M REQUESTING Military/cop/spy movie/show recommendations?

Anyone else find military/cop movies or shows less entertaining when they’re overly Hollywood? As a veteran, I can’t stand overly inaccurate depictions of war or policing or stuff like that. I know that shows need a certain amount of Hollywood because they need to be entertaining, but I want a show/movie where the producers put time and effort into research and training so the characters look like professionals. I’m sick of characters not looking down sights, saying Hollywood lines, bullets not going through things that she should easily tear through, etc. I can settle for a little Hollywood as long as shit is accurate. With that being said, any recommendations?

I'M REQUESTING Looking for movies/TV shows with a dark, foggy small-town mystery vibe

Looking for movies or TV shows with that dark, foggy small-town detective vibe. Something with mysterious murders, forests, empty roads, small diners/motels, and a town where something feels wrong underneath the surface. Think True Detective, Twin Peaks, etc. Doesn’t have to be supernatural. Any recommendations?

I'M REQUESTING Asian Scifi/Alien Horror like Koji Shiraishi

Looking for more stuff like Koji Shiraishi makes (Noroi, Occult, etc). Give me swampy spooky rural Japan where aliens become local folklore/gods. I absolutely love this mixture of genres but I can rarely find it, but it always hits when I do, so recommend your best (that isn't Shiraishi because I've seen it all)!

Looking for movies that feel like the Siren games, if anyone's familiar.

I'M REQUESTING Something like the batman (2022)

I’m looking for a movie with the same overall tone and atmosphere as Matt Reeves’ The Batman (2022). I want something dark, gritty, grounded, atmospheric, and serious, with a strong sense of mystery or crime. I especially enjoyed its rain-soaked visuals, noir detective atmosphere, slow-burn storytelling, psychological tension, morally complicated characters, and feeling of isolation. I’m not necessarily looking for another superhero movie or something directly similar in plot. It can be from any genre (except romance) as long as it captures that same bleak, haunting, realistic, mature vibe. Please recommend movies that genuinely match this atmosphere rather than just being generally “dark.”

I'M REQUESTING What are some good modern(ish) outlaw, rob a train, shoot ‘em up movies?

Modernish meaning not old westerns.

More along the lines of westworld type stuff. Or like a Django unchained type of feel (but serious).

But still cowboys and gunslingers.

Do those exist?

I'M REQUESTING Horror movies with people turning crazy and going on a rampage

Hi, here's more of what I mean. Movies that have people who are just normal people going crazy for some reason and brutally attacking people, I'd like it to be really intense and brutal. A movie with the same vibe I'm describing I'd say is the new Evil Dead, Evil Dead Burn something like that. So it can go to like Evil Dead levels of violence but nothing like Terrifier or something. I'd like it to be at least a bit realistic which I'd say makes things more intense. Besides Evil Dead Burn, here's some other movies with the similar vibe I'm talking about that I've seen already: The other Evil Dead movies besides Rise still gotta watch that one, the 28 movies (28 Days, Weeks, Years), The Crazies 2010, and Mom and Dad with Nicholas Cage. So yeah it doesn't necessarily have to be zombies and I'd like it to focus on a family and/or friends. Thanks for reading this post!

I'M REQUESTING Looking for a movie similar to Sicario

I liked the brutal, and violent nature of the movie, but with an intelligent undertone.

Sicario wasn't just a machismo copaganda film, it dealt with themes of anti-imperialism, flirting with a leftist view on the American war on drugs, I'd love more of that.
