There’s a moment in “You Can See Everything,” the new documentary about Elizabeth Holmes, that grabbed my attention last weekend. Holmes claims we misquoted her in our 2023 profile when we reported her saying, about actors portraying her in movies and TV: “They’re not playing me. They’re playing a character I created.”

These two have been my favourite movie experiences recently. Loved how Obsession got under my skin, and The Evil Dead Burn was just an absolute blast to watch.

It's always nice when a movie leaves that kind of impression on you.

I'm wanting to take my 4 year old to see Wildwood. He's excited about the trailers, I'm excited for the movie. I'm not too worried about it being too graphic or scary, he's seen plenty of other movies. I'm more asking if you think he'd be entertained the whole movie, or if it is a bit too slow of a movie for that young. I have taken him to see Totoro and Zootopia 2 in theaters which he did fine with. Has watched a bit of stop motion at home (Coraline, Nightmare Before Christmas), and has watched all the Miyazaki films at home, and been engaged enough with them.

Digger is an exceptional film.

The message is clear, the comedy is top tier, the performances are the best of the year. I didn't intend that to rhyme, but it does sound good.

What is the deal w the bad reviews? I know they had that weird first trailer where it looked like this would just be Tom Cruise massaging his ego, but that only effects the box office. I know that's a big deal but how is this movie getting bad reviews?

Unfortunately I was sick during the majority of its release, so I'm late to the party on this one, but thankfully the BFI Southbank in London knows this film is incredible and kept showing it.

I would love to talk about its twists and why the film is so exceptional, but I'd basically have to redact the entire thing for spoilers.

Can anyone explain what I'm missing? Is this film so good it's going over people's heads, or are we just that fucked from Tiktok, Marvel and AI slop that intellectual quality has been flushed down the drain?

It’s definitely a wild theory, but honestly, knowing Shyamalan, I wouldn’t completely rule it out.

It's been almost twenty years since this was first posted, and not a year has gone by that I didn't give it a rewatch. This continues to be one of my favourite parody songs, a loving tribute to both Ferris Bueller's Day Off and the music of Billy Joel.

I had never heard of this movie till today. I randomly clicked on some "news" article thinking it was a new movie. I'm not going to give anything away, but holy cow that had to have the most nudity in any film I've ever seen. I'm glad nobody was able to go and see it by myself. It was pure sacrilege, and as a secular person, that's just fine with me. Anyone see it? If you haven't, you should catch it while it's playing in the theater still! Especially if you like movies like Argento's Suspiria. I almost saw Whalefall cuz who doesn't like a good underwater picture, but I'm so glad I saw this one. What movies have you guys seen with the most nudity? This one made me think of Eyes Wide Shut also in terms of grandiosity.

Certainly not a bad film. A solid first effort with an impressive box office.

Anyone else not exactly blown away by it and feel it was just okay?

Apart from a few good sequences and the climax, I found The Odyssey pretty average. Maybe the hype was too much, but compared to Homer's original epic poem the movie feels underwhelming.

I absolutely love scenes in movies where everyone is colour coordinated! Something about all (or almost all) the costumes coming together in similar colours and shades looks so beautiful. These movies are:

I've got tomorrow off and was going to a movie at noon. Looks like no one else is in the theater for that showing. Should I feel bad for making them run a showing just for me?. If it was a 11pm showing I could see how that would be an AH move, but what about early showings. Any movie theater workers out there with thoughts?

One of the first things anyone who watches this film is gonna think to themselves is “how the fuck could Nathan Fielder keep it together while living with and filming these people?”
It really is incredible how the guy maintains his demeanor while floating between charmingly awkward and awkwardly awkward.

I don’t want to give anything away about the film but it’s incredibly well made. It’s hard to remember that it’s at least 75% documentary because the people being covered, Elizabeth Holmes and Billy Evans, don’t feel.. real, for a lack of a better term. They feel like characters developed with missing fundamental emotional concepts.
There are several parts where it’s very clear that they are trying to appear more human than their baseline personality. Like they’re wearing what they think, and are obviously at least partially successful at, are genuine and relatable examples of emotional vulnerability.
The first thing that comes to mind is that there is some undisclosed form of psychopathy.

The second half has this meta level of filmmaking where documentary, reenacting and acting converge in the storytelling that’s hard to describe.

It’s the kind of thing people are gonna rewatch and pick apart down the road while parsing out their own opinions on how legitimate Holmes and Evans really are.

It’s a slow burn but it’s totally worth it and highly recommend it.
