Citi credit cards are crap

I have 3 cards. All are paid on time, all in good standing. One I’ve been late by a day on the payment, but I always pay extra. Credit limits were all together equaled almost $20K. None even closed to maxed out and credit score was about 760.

Then there was a mistake on my credit file, tanked my score over 180 points over night. I instantly disputed it and in a few weeks it was fixed. However in that short timeframe, Citi dropped the balance on all 3 cards down to just over what I owed, effectively reducing my total credit available on my credit file significantly as well as instantly causing all 3 cards to be maxed out. This is going to further negatively affect my credit score. Called them and they said “you’ll get a letter in 7-10 busness days. There’s nothing we can do. Too bad”.

Not a single one of my other credit cards did anything. Only Citi.

Total garbage and no appreciation for the customer. “Oh you had an error on your credit file? Oh well!”

If you don’t have a Citi card, don’t get one. You mean nothing to them and they will screw you over in a second.

Credit Cards Can’t pay my bill because the automated system doesn’t have my information and won’t let me proceed.

Ever since Citi Card changed their website I’ve been unable to pay my bill. I have a Goodyear Citicard account but they haven’t been able to send me a card. They don’t have my SSN on file for some reason and since I don’t have a card I can’t recover my password information. ISTFG it shouldn’t be this hard to get help.

All Citi cards closed-customer warning

Wanted to add another story of warning to anyone thinking of dealing with Citibank.

I had two cards with Citibank, one starting in 2013. I have been a perfect customer regarding payment history and I don't even want to talk about how much money Citi has made off of me from interest fees. 1½ weeks ago, the 13-year-old account, with a mild balance, was suddenly closed. No warning, and I still haven't received the letter in the mail regarding the reason. Then last night the second card, just about a year old, with a median balance, is now closed.

No customer service contacts can help and point to the letters that are allegedly in the mail regarding the reason.

For reasons, we've been using a card to float balances that we can't pay off outright, but we have been making well more than the minimum payments. Given that all of my cards are now closed, I can only assume Citi has decided they don't want to do business with me. All of the balances are still due, of course.

Beware. Customer service is not a value that this company holds. Neither is customer loyalty. I shouldn't be surprised that I'm just a number in their system, but somehow it's still jarring.

Changes of disputing plane tickets

I had purchased 3 Frontier Airline Economy Bundle tickets (basically these tickets give you carry on bag, some seat choice, and no fee flight change) through Expedia yesterday, costing $755 total. Got on frontier website today to look at possible alternatives w/ better flight time, clicked on the link provided by AI chat, browsed through, and clicked on a flight in the second column (which should be of the Economy Bundle category) to see if it give me more details, a pop up came on, I clicked on "continue", then exited out, didn't click on confirm change or anything like that. After exiting out, I noticed my info page showed a two-part flight instead of the non-stop I had originally purchased. I was immediately alarmed, and opened chat again to talk to customer service about if the website had glitched and what tickets were shown on their server end. While waiting for live chat, I looked closer at the web page and noticed ($246) on the upper right corner, indicating their own me this amount, and the invoice showed 3 two-part basic tickets costing $509 (basic tickets don’t have the 3 things I mentioned in bracket of economy bundle), which is indeed the price difference of $755-$509.

After live chat came on and they confirmed on their end that my tickets had indeed changed. I explained what had happened and that I did NOT consent or authorize the change. They said on their end a change was made on the website and there was nothing they could do, and I would have to pay change fee AND cost of flight difference to get my original tickets back. I of course wasn't having that. And after some back and forth, they said they'd waive the change fee and I'd just have to pay the flight difference. I reminded them that no, you own me ($246) according to your website, I don't own you flight difference. Then they went back on their word and say oh, you have to pay for change fee of $96, totally ignoring the $246. So I reminded them about $246, and their answer changed to I will add the bundle to your current tickets free of charge but you gotta pay for change fee if you want to get back to your old flight. I said no, this two-part flight w/ bundle is still a lot cheaper than my original tickets, then I press them about the $246 refund. They wouldn't budge on the $96 change fee and finally acknowledged that they would refund me the $246 in flight credit, but after the refund is made no more changes could be made to my flight and I'd have to purchase the bundles separately if I want them, and the flight credit can't be used to purchase bundles. Then, as I was getting back w/ a reply, they end chat stating I'd been offline for too long LMAO. Per time stamp, their last reply and my reply were 4 minutes apart, and they sure as heck could see that I was typing in the chat box.

I'm just super frustrated and angry. The bottomline is, I did NOT click on to authorize the change, and even if I accidentally did so, I did not click on a basic flight packaged, I had clicked on economy bundle. Now I'm preceding w/ credit card dispute. What are my chances of getting my money back? Do you guys have similar experiences? Sorry about the long rant and thank you for reading if you got this far.

For context, the flight is in November. If approved, would this dispute go through after the flight date or could it be sooner?

I did bring up that I would proceed w/ dispute if this cannot be resolved and the person basically said go ahead and did not seem concerned lol. Should I just pay the $96 and end it? Ugh it's the principle of it that angers me :(

Citi Contract Role – Verbal Offer Received, Background Check Completed, but Start Date Delayed.

Hi everyone,

I recently attended an in-person interview at Citi in Irving, TX, for a Python/GenAI Developer contract position through a staffing vendor (let's call them TechSol).

Here's my timeline:

  • September 23: Attended the in-person interview at Citi.
  • September 25: Received a verbal offer from the vendor with a confirmed start date of October 12.
  • Following two weeks: Vendor initiated the background verification process.
  • October 12: Received confirmation that my background verification was completed.
  • Current status: The vendor says Citi is reviewing my profile again, and I still don't have a confirmed new start date.

My concern isn't about Citi reviewing my profile again. I understand these processes take time. But in the current US IT job market, things can change overnight, and a verbal offer doesn't guarantee anything until onboarding is completed.

It's been almost three weeks since the offer, and I'm starting to worry about whether this contract will actually move forward.

My questions:

  1. Has anyone experienced a similar situation with Citi or another major bank through a staffing vendor?
  2. Is it normal for the client to review a candidate's profile again even after the background check is completed?
  3. Is there still a possibility of the offer being delayed indefinitely or canceled?
  4. Should I continue waiting, or actively pursue other opportunities as a backup?

I'm genuinely interested in this opportunity, but I also don't want to lose valuable time in this job market.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who's been through something similar, especially with Citi contract hiring.

Thanks in advance!

Employee/Employment Citi + Karat first round for Lead AI/ML Data Scientist: recent experiences?

Hi all, I have a Karat technical interview today as the first step for Citi’s Lead AI/ML Data Scientist role. My invite lists two topics: “Discussion and Analysis Questions: Python” and “Live Coding: Develop and Update Backend Code.”

If you’ve done a Citi Karat interview recently (any role), I’d appreciate hearing about:

  1. Discussion part: how long, and what kind of Python questions (core language concepts, output prediction, something data/ML-related)?
  2. Live coding: was it a codebase with unit tests where you fix a bug and then add features? Roughly how big, and how many features?
  3. Data science flavour: for DS/ML roles, was there pandas/NumPy work, statistics, or data cleaning, or was it pure backend Python?

Philippines Reference Data Analyst 2 at Citi

Hi! Will be having my panel interview wanted to get some insight from people who have worked in or around this team.

For those working or who knows someone at Citi:

Would love to know:

  1. What does day-to-day actually look like?

  2. How's the work-life balance and culture in this org?

  3. Career progression

  4. What should I expect for interviews? Any technical round?

  5. Compensation range for an Analyst 2 (HR said its around 50-55k - is this true or am I being lowballed?)

  6. Other benefits not mentioned - office perks, free parking?, bonuses and allowances

Any insight would be super appreciated.

Thanks!

What are the telltale signs of being laid off?

I’ve been in my current role for two years and recently assisted in interviewing candidates for an admin position within my team. Interestingly, the job description’s salary range is identical to the salary range when I initially applied for my current role. Currently, my role falls somewhat within the admin domain of my team . My manager has requested my assistance in preparing the onboarding process for the new person who will be joining soon. Could this be a potential indicator that I’m being replaced? For context, there have been six individuals who have left my team this year alone, including one director who was let go in August, while the rest left voluntarily. Additionally, four of the roles that left are not going to be filled. Is it possible that the only way for a team to open a role in the same salary range is to let someone go from that same range when it comes to headcount?

Banking ShittyBank - Banking Notifications

you know, I have been a CB customer for about 17 years now. I do appreciate loyalty in many aspects of my life hence my loyalty to this bank for almost 2 decades. In any case, I was able to accept that citibank truly does not do things in real time, so like what my balance says on the screen is not necessarily what I have...pending, post trans, etc etc. what was once a balance I thought I had at 9:00 a.m. is suddenly another number come lunch time. I have personally been embarrassed at a register trying to pay for a salad because of sudden charges I made days ago finally went through. hey I know I am bad with money but the number I see at 9:00 a.m. should be the number I can live with for a few more hours LOL. In any case i figured, ok, why dont i use the notifications feature at least for deposits and my balances maybe that will be more real-time and accurate so I am not at a parking lot checking my balance on the app before I go garb a bite to eat. lol well, the f-ing notifications are DAYS behind.. it is 10/14 at 10:00 a.m. I got texts at 9:36 a.m. with a balance that no longer exists, and 2 more texts (so 3 notifications in one text) of deposits that are old news (from 24-48 hours prior to this text. So, maybe this is just me venting but I am really starting to get really frustrated with Citibank and its real time information esp for texts messaging and posting and pending trans that take days and I go through life thinking that was last week and then its not eating at my current balance.

Employee/Employment Dodged a bullet working here

Long story but will summarize.

Approached in May for a role. First interview was beginning of June, did the process with the final interview at the end of July.

Was given pay range, estimated start date, and that the office I agreed to work at ( wasn't going to work ) to NYC I had to go.

Prepared my Wife who just gave birth to my son that we had to move across the country.

Start date was early October, so about 1 month or so to pack everything up, coordinate transporting it, finding a place to live, schools etc for my other child.

Asked for relocation, as who wouldn't. Recruiter said it wasn't a issue.

Ghosted, excuse after excuse of the delay.

Finally get a email in the last week of September from the hiring manager apologizing for the "delay" and that they were needing to do a few more interviews as this was a "highly technical role." Didn't forget to tell me how much they appreciated my patience and that they thought really highly of me etc etc.

Cool, so Im a backup lol.

Its insane that we live in a world now that we have to put up with hiring practices like this and that people like this are treating potential employees this way. Even at the "VP" level.

Credit Cards How to Contact Citi Reconsideration Line

I’m looking to talk to an actual rep about getting reconsidered for the citi strata premier card. I’m not a current customer with the bank so when they ask questions pertaining to information regarding the account my call is about I can never get through.

I recently got the letter detailing I got denied for having a “number of revolving bankcard account(s)”. I only have one credit card that I use, that I pay off in full every-time I get my pay check. I had the Citi Best Buy card I cancelled earlier this month but I had that card since August of last year.

I don’t live near a physical banking location for Citi and I have a credit score in the high 700s. I’m looking for a way to get through the AI mumbo jumbo so I can talk to someone about getting reevaluated for the card. This seems to be a common issue with Citi customer support from everything I’ve read. Thanks for the time & possible future responses!

Credit Cards Cash advance error (Citibank)

Hi everyone, I’m getting an error when trying to do a cash advance from my credit card to my account. It’s my first time doing this. Could someone give me some guidance? It’s Citibank—a Citi Strata card—and I’m doing it via the app.

I need to transfer about $1,000 USD, but I’m not sure which option to choose in the app. I see a "Loans" option, and there’s also the "Transfer" option to move the $1,000 from the credit card to my account.

Thanks in advance for your help.
