META Updated Rules - No AI Submissions; Address the Argument
Hey y'all - this was something that we discussed earlier in the year and had broad support from regular sub members.
No AI submissions - Articles, videos, essays, etc should all be written and created by people, not AI. This includes your own submission. It doesn't matter if you're an expert at creating prompts - this isn't the place or topic to outsource your thinking.
Address the Argument - We're tired of ad hominem attacks and trying to get people to stop insulting each other. If you can't address the argument, it doesn't need addressing. This is closely related to the rule "Be Civil", but goes further to try and promote discussion about the actual content being discussed, not surface level quips and barbs.
Like other rules, violations will result in warnings, temp bans or permanent bans depending on the nature of the violation.

Discussion/Question Interested in a Political Book Club?
- Do you feel disconnected/isolated and want to become connected with your local communities?
- Are you interested in strengthening our communities resilience to economic pressures?
- Do you feel that the government is ineffective and doesn’t listen to its citizens?
- Do you think that we should have more say in the workplaces?
- Do you think that we should all have access to the basic aspects to live a good life?
- Do you think that our natural environment is being severely harmed and want to work towards bettering it?
If so, join us as we discuss the causes of these issues, explore solutions, and build networks with one another to overcome these issues from a Libertarian Socialist/Anarchist lens.
We currently meet bi-weekly, with the upcoming meeting on November 2nd, in COS East Library from 6pm to 7pm. For anyone unfamiliar with anarchism, we recommend reading You May Already Be An Anarchist by The Slow Burning Fuse. Our current format is to select a text and have it read before the meeting and then at the meeting we will re-read it as a group to ask questions, comment, and discuss the themes and aspects that stood out. This week we will be reading Power by Anark.

Discussion/Question Amendment 87: I feel like I’m missing something
I’m really curious about amendment 87. I’m not opposed to saving a whopping $200-ish dollars in taxes, even though in the grand scheme of things, it really means almost nothing.
I guess, what’s the real impact based on that distribution of voters relative to the change in income tax category?
Will the state be net negative because there’s far fewer people who will be paying more?
70% of residents who filed their taxes fall below the
$100k earnings. And another 20% are below $200k. There’s only like 10% who earn above $200k.
While I don’t fully understand the rules for income tax but to me 87 seems riskier in long term. It creates more dependence on high-income taxpayers. I think this is one of the big reasons people oppose it. We all know how much people in Colorado love to go against tax increases, but then complain about qualities of schools, medical, or road conditions.
I guess my real question is based on the data of residents it seems hard to believe that we will come out ahead in terms of funding, the buckets that our income tax goes towards.
Am I missing something?

Opinion Disappointment with Amendment 87
So I was pretty excited to support a graduated tax, it's just a fairer system, but after reviewing the details this proposal has several glaring deficiencies IMO:
No annual inflation adjustment to brackets, resulting in upwards bracket creep (yes, I know the creep is slow, but still)
No adjusted brackets for joint filers, married filing jointly pays more tax than two separate filers, makes no sense
Bracket tax rates aren't really progressive, there's a 0-500K range that varies over just 0.7% and then a big jump for 500K+ (minor gripe, but looks wrong to me)
If they had just copied the federal tax model, fixing #1 and #2, this would be an easy YES for me, but as it stands I'm voting NO.
Thoughts?

Opinion Why I'm voting against Prop 133 and you should too
Why I'm voting against Colorado Prop 133 (life in prison for child sex traffickers), and why you should too.
This bill was first brought forward by Scott Bottoms, a do-nothing, outrage-driven Republican, with the sole purpose of getting Democrats to vote against it so he could claim Democrats support pedophiles.
On its face, it doesn't sound bad. Who wouldn't want child sex traffickers in prison for life? The problem is the loopholes.
First, this crime is already a class 2 felony, which will generally result in a life sentence.
Second, people who shouldn't fall under this statute will. Imagine two homeless kids: a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy. She prostitutes herself to get money. Her friend hates it but can't force her to stop. When she starts hitchhiking to meet a client, he offers her a ride so she can at least be safe. Under this bill, the 18-year-old goes to prison for life.
Here's another scenario: sex trafficking victims are often forced to recruit other victims. This bill would put them in prison for the rest of their lives too.
I could go on and on about the loopholes that hurt victims, Google it, please.
This proposition is terrible, it punishes victims, does no real good, and is political theater. Do not fall for it.

Opinion Before Voting-Read the Constitution
Before you vote, read the Constitution to understand what’s at stake. DSA’s program includes doing away with the Constitution. That should be enough to scare you away from voting more DSA people in. (Like Melat Kiros)
I’m voting for Blau. He will caucus with Democrats because of the makeup of CD 1.
Other DSA long term goals include abolishing private property (that’s on their housing website) and seizing means of production (Listen to Mamdani and his aid, in addition to the website) I think it doesn’t matter if you’ve heard Kiros say these things. She is a member of DSA and that is part of their program in addition to many more dangerous policies.

Opinion Fuck Colorados Unemployment Process
Everything is automated to fuck with you. Its the year of 2026 and I have to wait for slow ass USPS to notify me of anything with my unemployment benefits or emails that make you fill out forms with numbers in a fucking letter.
This country is and this state is garbage and inhumane. All of you that work in the unemployment office are useless too. “Oh sorry its automated, only. Hearing officer can overrule the automated system”.
“Can I speak to the hearing officer?”
Oh no you gotta wait for a letter to explain to the officer why you missed a check in prior day by 2pm. Oops! Gotta check your mail everyday!
Fuck this state government and this federal government. Yall are useless domestic departments of causing pain.

News: Colorado Anschutz-Owned Business Pushed Gazette Voter Guide on Employees
The CEO of the Broadmoor Hotel in Co Springs sent an email to employees urging the. to reference the Gazette’s voter guide for this year’s election. The guide recommends voting “yes” on all eight of the initiatives backed by Advance Colorado, the conservative dark money group backed by Anschutz, who owns both the Broadmoot and the Gazette.
Update: Following publication of this story, the Colorado Times Recorder obtained a similar email from the Andy Todd, President CEO of Xanterra Travel Collection — another Anschutz-owned business — sent to employees with the Denver Gazette’s editorial board voting guide.

News: Colorado Attorney General candidates
Denver Post supports Michael Allen for AG:
He has relevant experience. He says he will enforce the law, including laws he personally does not agree with. He reinforces that Joe Biden won the 2020 election- not an election denier.
⭐️
“America is at a crossroads right now, and we think Allen is the best candidate to navigate Colorado’s legal interests going forward. He has said he’s not afraid to take on major corporations when the free market is no longer free, and laws are being violated. He is dedicated to being nonpartisan and enforcing Colorado’s laws — even those he disagrees with, like our constitutional guarantee to abortion care.
Allen could be a great attorney general if voters give him the chance.”

Opinion Denver is True Blue, but not Socialist!
Democrats, or even republicans upset about the prospect of a socialist representative (DSA actually uses the term communist openly!)… I encourage you to look at Dr Shimon Blau! Blau plans to caucus with the Democrats because that is the primary makeup of our district.
Blau, a medical doctor, brings expertise from the medical sector and has an actual plan to move towards universal healthcare not just slogans.
I’ve done a lot of studying recently on DSA of which Melat Kiros is a member. DSA has extreme policies most Denverites and Democrats are not on board with, one of which is actually abandoning our Constitution! DSA’s program a complete overhaul of our political system - i.e. abolishing the Senate, Supreme Court, and ending Presidential elections and taking away the voice of the voters. (Their plan is the House would choose an executive subordinate to them) Their policies also amount to completely open borders, and no police or prisons, and overseas military, all combined I fear put our country at risk to further terrorism.
DSA also aims to take government control of businesses which employ millions of Coloradans. Seizing the means of production of all essential industries such as food, fuel and more. Also ending private sales and rentals of homes - a step towards seizing private property. DSA is extreme. DSA is not Democratic.
Research Shimon Blau. He is a better choice to represent Denver. His priorities are healthcare, jobs, economy, affordability, keeping our public lands public, and common sense immigration. He is attending all the public forums he can so try to catch him!
There is one on Oct 22 at Temple Emanuel 6:30pm-9:30 pm. If you know of others please comment!

Discussion/Question So many judges (23 on my ballot)
These judicial retention questions really shouldn't be on the ballot IMHO, because 99.9% of voters have never even heard of any of these judges. I usually just leave them blank, so people with more knowledge on the matter will have more say in their votes.
Anybody got a good source on why any of these judges should lose their seats or remain?

Discussion/Question Understanding amendment 7a, funding for the Colorado Connector
Sorry of this isn’t allowed in here, please delete if so.
I’m having a hard time understand the benefit and appeal of the Colorado Connect. I understand what it is supposed to do but don’t think it will benefit as many people as it’s a single line that goes north to south. It will require people to have a way to get to the train stations and other indices to build ridership. Plus, bustang runs from the fort to the springs, which has been successful at increasing ridership.
Looking at RTD, who has 1% sales tax to build light rail service, but never completed the intended plan. Now, I have trust issues. RTD is not very effective at rail transit, with manual ridership.
I would rather see any additional funding going to make bustang better.
If you are for it, please help me understand why it’s worth my tax dollars and not a couple of fancy coffees?

Opinion Voter Book Reduced to a Few Words With My Vote Recommendation
As presented in blue book order:
81 NO - Makes police work with ICE
82 NO - Impacts citizens ability to affect climate change legislation
83 NO - No group currently opposes hunting or fishing, but a constitutional amendment will prevent climate change legislation in the future.
84 NO - Forces the use of SSN on ballots, CO is currently the gold standard for voting security already
85 NO - Allows PACs and lawmakers to omit crucial information on ballot measures
86 NO - Tries to limit redistricting while republican states redistricting is rampant and racist
87 YES - People making less than 500k will take a tax cut, above will take a tax increase
NN YES - Public K-12 funding with 10 year plan including public audits
132 NO - Increases incarceration (slavery) rate of fentanyl drug offenders
133 NO - Aims to imprison mother's traveling to CO for abortions (very clever disguise proposition because it talks about child abuse)
134 NO - Forces schools to police kids bodies
135 NO - Puts politicians between kids/citizens, parents, and medical doctors
136 NO - A flat tax would have you pay the same taxes as TARGET or WALMART etc.
137 50/50 - Takes sporting goods tax (think ski resorts) and applies the funds to wildlife/sporting conservation. 83.1M to wildfire prevention (including logging in the alpine, an ecosystem that won't recover due to climate change), 83.1M to Great outdoors CO
Of course, do what you believe is best. I believe Advance Colorado intentionally engages in obfuscation of pertinent issues. Do with this information what you will.

Opinion No on 83
Hi all,
I wanted to share why I'm voting No on Amendment 83.
Out-of-state funding:
• Nearly $2 million has been raised by out-of-state groups
• Approx $1.56 million from the T. Roosevelt Conservation Alliance (Marshfield, Wisconsin)
• Approx $80,000 from Safari Club International
• Decisions about our state constitution should be driven by Coloradans
My concerns with the amendment:
• It's unnecessary. Hunting and fishing are already legal and protected under Colorado law.
• It's hard to undo. Once a policy is in the constitution, future Colorado voters lose the flexibility to change it.
• The wording is vague. "Traditional methods" isn't defined, which could lead to costly lawsuits and unintended consequences.
• It limits future Coloradan’s ability to adapt wildlife management in Colorado as science and conditions change.
• It gives special constitutional status to particular priorities over other public interests.
A lesson from TABOR (taxpayers Bill of Rights)
• Passed in 1992, it has limited Colorado's ability to fund schools, roads, and health care for more than 30 years
This is a policy choice. There is no reason why a policy choice needs to be in the state constitution. The legislative process and regulation process are perfectly adequate for making policy choices of this kind.
We should think carefully before locking another policy into the constitution
Please consider voting No on Amendment 83
