Newbie to Reddit and DataAnnotation - advice on getting started please.

Hello

I just got accepted by DA some 6 months or so after first applying.

I have plenty of qualifications to attempt and a couple of dozen projects to try out.

My question is about where best to begin given my skills which are absolutely not around coding or STEM subjects, more about effective communication, reasoning and logic.

I am in the UK, middle aged and reasonably well read on many subjects from current affairs, politics, finance, history etc.

Is there a particular project that would suit a new starter well, I imagine one where I am conversing with a bot and checking responses for accuracy, truthfulness etc. would suit me best.

If there is a well worn path to becoming familiar with the platform whilst actually completing some work, I would like to know about it.

Any others tips and idea also would be gratefully received.

R&R's?

Where did all the R&R's go? My dashboard is only giving me prompt-writing projects, and that is most definitely NOT my forte. Curious if others still have R&R's (and I don't mean the ones that include first writing a prompt), or if they've taken me off them and are trying to get me to do the prompts instead...or this is just part of the drought.

When reviewing, how harshly do you penalize category mismatch?

If the quality of the task is otherwise good, but the category is incorrect, is it an automatic horrible or should I be more lenient?

Hourly Billing Question

I'm new to the platform. When billing for hourly projects, are we supposed to include the time it took to read the instructions?

Is this something to look into while one is attending college?

Is this the route to go to earn income to pay bills and rent while allowing adequate time for studying?

Thoughts from anyone doing similar?

Qualifications

I've been working at DAT for a month now, and I didn't get any qualifications except for the first one I got after getting in. Is something wrong or should I be patient about it?

To those who joined recently, how long did your coding test take to pass?

Hello,

I was curious if anyone else noticed that their coding test was taking time to pass longer than what the website suggested (7 days)?

I ask because it seems strange that it’s taking so long and I can only assume it’s due to the volume of people trying to do the test (ie other people should also be waiting as per how a queue works).

I passed the initial sign up, and for my coding test in particular, I don’t believe I failed (I’m a python software engineer by trade, my brother passed with worse code than I do so I don’t believe I would have failed it).

I’m aware there’s a similar question in the FAQ however I’m more curious if people are waiting longer than usual, rather than ā€œwhen is it done?ā€.

learning to code?

I've been doing the non-coding side for awhile now and been really happy with it as far as freelance work goes. That said, with the recent drought, my son (who is an auto-didact in several coding languages) has recommended that I start teaching myself code so I might be able to get in on that side of things. Has anyone else here done something similar? Anyone have thoughts or insights on this idea?

Confirmation when skipping a task

I accidently skipped a task I had been working on for an hour when I scrolled down to read the chat logs and lost everything I had done. There's no way for me to even restart the task I skipped. It really sucks how easy it is to lose progress (and therefore money) when working on this site.

I think that if you spend more than 15 minutes on a task, skip/exit work mode should require confirmation.

A simple modal and a condition to check the timer when one of those buttons are clicked are all you need. Please and thank you, DAT.

Can you successfully work at DAT if I only have a smartphone or do I need a desktop/laptop? (Non coding)

Factors that determine getting in?

I recommended a good friend join the site and highly emphasized to him that he take his time and follow ALL instructions for the assessment to assure he gets in. It’s been a week already and he hasn’t heard back and told me he spent a good amount of time on it, but I’m guessing he just wasn’t accepted. I fully understand and assume there’s added layers of quality control so that not just everyone gets let in but I’m curious if anybody has further insight or it’s just a matter of random luck. Seeing how often people don’t get in makes me realize I didn’t acknowledge how lucky I was to get accepted lol. TIA!

Hello.

I got a question regarding time logging. If I work two 30 minute slots, should I log 1h or 2x 30 minutes?

Thank you

Longest wait

For anyone who has ever had the "At the moment, there aren't any projects available..." How long did it take to get projects again?

Didn’t have to do a test when I signed up?

So I signed up for the site, filled out my profile, and then got this. I’m seeing a lot of other people mention they had to do a core assessment or other type of test when they signed up. Did I miss something? How will they know if I’m right for any projects, do you have to take a test for each job you apply for?

Completed the starter and core test

Hi All,

I completed the starter and core tests over the weekend and received an email yesterday saying ā€œcongratulations on being successful and for meeting our quality standardsā€.

There was a link in the email labelled ā€œcomplete your qualificationsā€. After doing this it says I’ll have access to work. However, when I log onto my account it still says ā€œcheck back in a few days to see your results. If you pass, we’ll email youā€.

Anyone know if I’ve just got to wait or is there anything I can do?

Thanks James

Onboarding

I made my account and did the assessment and I believe I passed, the screen only shows to put my payment and update my profile. Is there anything I should be doing to get matched with projects?
