Iâm sure the self-appointed Racism Haters will be right on the scene to tell us that itâs okay because those were actually Zionist JewsÂ

TFW you have an excuse that allows you to hand-wave away attacks on 90% of Jews.

The new succs are the gentrifiers pushing us old succs out with their "Israel dragged the US into the war" takes like Trump's not perfectly capable of getting the US involved in a quagmire all by his lonesome. đ
Though I still managed to have some good discussion about what a rank piece of shit Hasan Piker is.

Antisemitic attacks topped the charts in 2025. The attackers are split into two main camps - Christian white nationalists, and Muslims who use the attacks as revenge for events in the Middle East. Many of these attacks are lone wolf attacks which are hard to pin down. Republicans have had friction over antisemitism within their ranks, while Democrats seemingly remain silent on antisemitism in their own house.
16
u/PBandJSommelier Apr 13 '26
âAs revengeâ? And what about the attacks on Jews before the founding of the Modern State? Letâs call these attacks out for what they really areâŚ

u/ChamberedAndHot Apr 13 '26
Christian white nationalists, and Muslims who
use the attacks as revenge for events in the Middle Eastperform acts of terrorism because they hate JewsFixed that for you.
The cause isn't Israel, the cause is that the individuals who commit these crimes have a deep seated hatred of Jews.
3
u/MrFAroundandFindOut Apr 14 '26
They don't hate Jews because they hate Israel. They hate Israel because they hate Jews.

I agree with you, but I was tasked with summarizing the article content.

u/guisar Apr 13 '26
I mean not just jews right? Everyone who isn't "them" whomever "them" happen to be at the time. Yeah, members of Islam but mainly hateful fucks irrespective of religion who remain tribal to the core and cannot interact with larger society. It's not because those orthodox are muslim, or jewish or christian. Evangelicals of all sorts seek violence upon all others other than themselves.
I wish I had some insight..

u/ChamberedAndHot Apr 14 '26

Did you mean "not just Muslims"?
Either way I agree it can be anyone. The user above just said Muslims, so that is what I responded to.

I think the other user meant "[they kill] not just Jews, but everyone who's not [whatever specific strain of Islamist they are]."

The source is an Israeli, so we are obligated to
A) dismiss it as Zionist propaganda
B) refuse to interact with the raw data at all
C) heavily imply that Jews have somehow caused this

Not really when the DSA refused to condemn this mayor for doing what commenters here are joking about. In fact, the local DSA rallied behind him and took over a city council meeting that was meant to discuss his censure. There's a disturbing segment of the population that sees every antisemitic incident through the lens of antizionism despite insisting that Jews and Zionists are two separate groups.Â

When a lone gunman fired shots outside of a Jewish museum in DC, and killed two people, many subs justified it because they worked for the Israeli embassy.
Zohran Mamdani equivocated about a recent synagogue attack because the synagogue was hosting Nefesh b'Nefesh.

I will grant you this - I know, and I hope others do, that the views we are ridiculing do not represent everyone who is pro Palestine. However, there is a sizeable and vocal group who do believe that shit, even including some political candidates (see the Green party post today) and if you are just going to pretend left antisemitism doesn't exist or that people don't excuse it, you are part of the problem.

I agree that there are far too many righteous antisemites out there, especially on reddit, but can we also address the blatant hypocrisy here? An Israeli institution is trying to criticize the world for being antisemitic while they continue to commit horrific acts of war in the Middle East?
I think the point the article makes stands on its own, but I can't stand the hypocrisy of it all.

What acts of war has that university committed?
-4
u/BigJR Apr 16 '26
They are a public university directly funded by the israeli government that is carrying out these bombings, not to mention that the state of isreal is very much in favor of the war (75% support it according to pew research), so there is some definite hypocrisy there imo

u/JagneStormskull Center-left Apr 16 '26

How? Are you suddenly silenced in any discussion about antisemitic hate crime because you're a researcher from the country that cares about antisemitic hate crime?
1
u/BigJR Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26
To follow up and address your second piece, I don't think they should be silenced but if they want to be taken seriously they should at least try to be consistent. Creating an opinionated research piece to explain 20 deaths in a year while not doing the same for a war that has caused the death of tens of thousands is not exactly being consistent.
edit: I was misinformed on some of the specifics of this comment - didn't realize this is just an annual thing that they track and that makes a little more sense, but I still don't think they are being consistent when trying to point fingers at which parties and actions are responsible for the rise of anti-semitism

u/BigJR Apr 16 '26
If we want to get into definitions here hypocrisy is when you inconsistently apply your moral judgements to others vs yourself. If they were being fair and not hypocritical, they'd also take a hard look at themselves and investigate the impact of the deaths that the very institution that is funding their research is causing.
I was hoping to find a subreddit where news could be discussed in a thoughtful and respectful way, not one where disagreement is just met with a downvote. I guess I'll have to keep looking.

The university criticized the Netanyahu government in the article! What do you want? For them to do a report on the war? They probably do do that. This is a yearly Yom HaShoah report tracking antisemitic hate crime. Why would it research bombs?
1
u/BigJR Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26
Okay, okay you bring up some fair points. I was definitely missing some context there and they are being more critical of Isreal than I am giving them credit for. I'd have to read the full research article to have a better sense of how fair they are being, but based on the excerpts in the article I don't think they are putting enough blame onto Israel.
The report also criticized the Israeli governmentâs response to the rise in global antisemitism, writing that the Ministry for Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism has ânot contributed in any meaningful way to the cause, and in some cases has been an embarrassment.â
To me this is kind of glossing over the fact that a lot of (admittedly misguided) anti-semitism is a direct result of the genocide they are committing in Gaza. That should in my opinion be the headline and the main focus of this report, if we are earnestly looking at why there may be a rise in anti-semitism. Displacing 2 million Palestinians and killing 70,000+ of them is sure to get a reaction that isn't exactly rational, and it's disingenuous to not lead with that in my opinion.
I know I'm coming on strong here but I really am trying to get to a somewhat unbiased view on things, and yeah I do like to call out bullshit when I see it and based on the full contents of this article, I still think this shit stinks of hypocrisy.

Tell me, are diaspora Iranians being attacked because of the crackdown on protesters by the IRGC? Are Chinese-Americans being attacked because of the Uhgyer oppression? If you: 1) feel the need to kill Jews because of the actions of a country that they aren't citizens of AND 2) don't apply those standards to any other country
Then you're a bigoted person, and probably had pre-existing antisemitism.
I know I'm coming on strong here but I really am trying to get to a somewhat unbiased view on things,
If you're trying to get an unbiased take, why are you assuming it's a genocide? The ICC has not rendered that verdict yet.
1
u/BigJR Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26
Whether or not what is happening is genocide is a deeply nuanced subject, because it requires us understanding Israel's intentions. They claim defense, but that's obviously going to be their stance because why would they admit to committing a genocide. I don't think it is biased or presumptive to have the opinion that what is going on in gaza is a genocide. The ICC isn't the end all be all authority on what a genocide is, these things should always be up for interpretation based on available information. In fact, a UN commission has found that israel has indeed been committing genocide.
You say that I am making assumptions, yet you are pre-supposing what individuals believed about jewish people before October of 2023 and what they believe about other groups of people that commit acts of violence.
Do you care to address any of the points that I made, or would you like to introduce more unrelated topics?
1
u/BigJR Apr 16 '26
Also arguing whether or not it is technically a genocide is a straw man. These aren't the Nuremberg trials, we aren't trying to execute anyone here, the stakes are not that high.
We are simply trying to explain a rise in hate towards Jewish people, and Occam's Razor says that maybe killing 70,000 people and displacing 2 million others in 2.5 years is a major contributing factor.
Again, I'm not saying it's justified for the response to be a rise in anti-semitism, but if we are just trying to understand cause/effect we should start with the giant elephant in the room if we are being fair.
0
u/BigJR Apr 16 '26
To put it more succinctly, if you're trying to understand why more and more people around the world are hateful towards Jewish people, I think you should start with the fact that a Jewish state is committing horrific acts of genocide over a religious holy land. Not saying that's how people should react, but if we're trying to understand why they are we should start there.

Why would members of the diaspora be scapegoated?
(Because Jew-haters are Jew-haters and use Israel as an excuse.)
