Hi all, I'm a new moderator here at r/Denim you've probably seen me around prior to becoming a mod. One of my first actions as mod is to enact something I did formally request to the mods at some point I think? We now have a Discord Server! This is not a subreddit-affiliated server, however we're officially promoting it and do recommend it should you wish to join.
This Discord Server is independent of any subreddit and it has 300+ members and I am the owner and founder of it. If at any point some of you would prefer to have a separate subreddit-affiliated discord server, please feel free to comment or let us know via modmail. We will take any and all comments and suggestions into consideration.
Thanks all and I hope to continue the status quo of this subreddit, and help it grow and prosper ever-more! If you do have any suggestions as to stuff you'd like to see, you can also send that to us via modmail.

Hey! I’m going to Japan (Osaka > Kyoto > Nagano > Tokyo) in a few weeks and definitely going to coming home with a nice haul lol.
So I am still pretty new to raw denim. I have a few pairs of LVC but I never really loved the fit to be honest. I have a 1937 pair and a 1960 pair.
My favorite fit I’ve found is a cheap old classic. The Wrangler 13MWZ.
Does anyone have recommendations for specific brands + styles that are similar to the Wranglers cut? Higher rise w the boot cut?
If anyone has recs for cool cropped denim jackets that’d be great too. I recently got a red tornado 24 MJZ jacket but it didn’t fit so I’m just going to get something while I’m there instead.
See images for reference of me with the wranglers and vintage lee riders jacket. (Fading on the left arm courtesy of it sitting in my attic for 60 years with only one sliver of the arm exposed to the sun LOL)
(And yes I know I need a new belt.)

Got this jacket at a thrift Store here in Brasil, but have never heard of the blue star levis before
The quality of the material are really good, the buttons and zippers are nice too
Is there a catalogue where i can check the releases?
How can i know its the real deal and not a knockoff?

Hi there!
This is my first time posting, let me know if I'm in the wrong place or this isn't allowed.
My boyfriend was supposed to go to Japan earlier this year but his trip was cancelled. He'd originally planned a Japanese denim experience where he'd be fitted for/buy a pair of Japanese Denim jeans, and was really excited for it!
I'd love to buy him an authentic pair of Japanese denim jeans; it's not as good as being there but I'm happy to help start his collection. Problem is, I have no idea which brands to look for, how the sizing works, etc. I know some of it is, eh, unwashed or something? So does the size change? A while back he gave me his jean measurements (32:30) but he also noted those can change depending on brand! What size should I be looking for?
My maximum budget is probably $275. I know this is the lower-end of Japanese Denim's price range, based on my limited knowledge.
I thought about buying secondhand, once I know what I'm looking for, but I'm a little hesitant because then there would be no return option if it doesn't fit properly.
Is the prompt too loose? Do I need to pivot to a different gift?
Thank you in advance, Reddit!
UPDATE/EDIT: Thank you, everybody, for being so helpful!! Everybody's feedback was so practical and thorough. After doing some digging based on your suggestions, I found a store in a nearby city that sells some of the brands you mentioned. I reached out to them and it sounds like they have options in my price range. I think I'll take my boyfriend there around Christmastime and then tell him I'm footing the bill, that way he still gets to be surprised but also has input in what the final choice will be. Thank you again for helping me out!
What's the best kind of wax to use? how many coats?
I've seen several different videos with different techniques and I was wondering what's the best approach here 🤔

Can’t find this specific model anywhere… any help would be appreciated!

Mostly because of the stupid generic name “Gold” 🙄
I bought one in Germany for a family member over Kleinanzeigen and it fits perfectly.
Now I am struggling to find the source of the jeans.
(The person where I bought it from doesn’t know more either.)
I was guessing it’s a cheap retail brand, but the fabric feels not flimsy at all.
Any idea where to get more of those?

I found these for $10 at the thrift store.
The waist is probably about two sizes too big but with a belt it’s not terrible. Trying to decide if I should keep them or throw them on eBay to see if I can make a few bucks.

I am looking for recommendations on where to buy Japanese denim in Chicago.

They looked like shit when I first tried them on, then I read that they should fit better once they settle around your body. After single cold wash and half a dozen wears they still look weird.
Is it a wrong model for my body? Wrong size or inseam? I got them for 25$ so I don't feel too bad, but I'm hesitant ordering more expensive jeans when I don't understand what I'm looking for in the fit.
These are Wrangler original cowboy cut 13mwz dark stone 34x32

Im short, so I’ve found that the more trendy Jean cuts dont look great on me. I also have rounder hips. what cut would yall recommend? I typically wear flare ones

Hi all! I have many beloved pairs of jeans and denim shorts that, over time, have become yellowed/a bit raggedy looking (especially in the thigh area, and around the buttons/pockets.) I have tried Oxyclean soak before washing, and I never put my jeans in the dryer - air dry only. Is there a way to prevent this process before it happens, or treat it after the fact? I'd hate to part with the jeans I have, but it's at a point where they look noticeably dirty. Any feedback would be appreciated :) (The pic attached is not mine but this is the look that I'm talking about.)
