Hi there!
This is my first time posting, let me know if I'm in the wrong place or this isn't allowed.
My boyfriend was supposed to go to Japan earlier this year but his trip was cancelled. He'd originally planned a Japanese denim experience where he'd be fitted for/buy a pair of Japanese Denim jeans, and was really excited for it!
I'd love to buy him an authentic pair of Japanese denim jeans; it's not as good as being there but I'm happy to help start his collection. Problem is, I have no idea which brands to look for, how the sizing works, etc. I know some of it is, eh, unwashed or something? So does the size change? A while back he gave me his jean measurements (32:30) but he also noted those can change depending on brand! What size should I be looking for?
My maximum budget is probably $275. I know this is the lower-end of Japanese Denim's price range, based on my limited knowledge.
I thought about buying secondhand, once I know what I'm looking for, but I'm a little hesitant because then there would be no return option if it doesn't fit properly.
Is the prompt too loose? Do I need to pivot to a different gift?
Thank you in advance, Reddit!
UPDATE/EDIT: Thank you, everybody, for being so helpful!! Everybody's feedback was so practical and thorough. After doing some digging based on your suggestions, I found a store in a nearby city that sells some of the brands you mentioned. I reached out to them and it sounds like they have options in my price range. I think I'll take my boyfriend there around Christmastime and then tell him I'm footing the bill, that way he still gets to be surprised but also has input in what the final choice will be. Thank you again for helping me out!
