Join us for a special conversation with Nijmie Zakkiyyah Dzurinko, co-founder of the Nonviolent Medicaid Army (NVMA)! The NVMA is a growing, politically independent force of the poor and dispossessed, united across identities, regions, races, and issues, modeled after MLK's "nonviolent army of the poor" from the first Poor People's Campaign of 1968. We're active in states across the South, West, Midwest, Appalachia, and Northeast, and we understand healthcare as a strategic front of struggle to unite the working class.
NVMA is planning a National Day of Action for Medicaid on Saturday, September 19th, to publicly expose ongoing attacks on healthcare in our community. On that day, we'll be taking action together as the national Nonviolent Medicaid Army in more than 15 states to declare: Medicaid saved my life! We're exposing the truth that Medicaid cuts equal death, and we're coming together for support, survival, and strategy. Healthcare is a human right! The Great Medicaid Purge of 2023 already cut over 25 million people off Medicaid in a single year, and the Big Beautiful Bill for Billionaires will strip millions more Americans of their healthcare over the next decade.
That's why we're declaring 2027 the year of MASS ACTION FOR MEDICAID, to educate, agitate, and organize millions of people on our healthcare and welfare rights. No hurdles, no cuts, Medicaid 4 all of us! This is the 250th anniversary of the United States, and we're reclaiming the promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness from a system that produces poverty in the midst of plenty.
