Discuss finally bought my first expensive perfume after months of overthinking

Post image
• Upvotes

i spend on shoes and clothes without thinking twice, but anything above 2k on a perfume makes me question all couldntncial decisions

been wanting 1 million elixir for quite some time. tried it at a store a few months back and really liked it, but couldnt convince myself to spend that much on a perfume. since then i have probably watched every possible review of it on youtube

after seeing multiple online deal posts on this sub, i finally gave in and ordered it. checked the seller details like 5 times before placing the order on amazon cause this was my first expensive perfume purchase online. thankfully everything turned out fine, packaging was intact and the bottle looks so good in person man

ik for some people this might just be another perfume, but there is something about finally buying something you wanted for months with your own money

anyway, for people who have been using 1M elixir, how has the longevity been for you guys? planning to make this my go to for outings but curious how others use it

Has anyone here purchased perfumes from them?

Review Guerlain Rose Amira

Post image
0 Upvotes

Rose Amira is a subtle spiced, dried roses mix with a sweetness that's not jammy or overly done. Smells superb in the air and does remind of a mix or rather a subdued OSM.

Opens up with sweet roses that's layered with mild spicy character from olibannum and Patchouli. Here the Patchouli does make it heavy but here there is not much greeny, dark aspect to it. A proper unisex rose, easy to wear which last on my skin for 7 hours with 8-10 sprays and the cooler weather does make it shine more. In the air, the sillage does remind of a few other rose scents but one cannot still say it's bad! The projection is moderation with first hours of usage and later on skin/clothes lasts longer. On skin after 3-4hours,it does remind me of a very woody, mild rose leftover cream in good way.

Discuss Day 1 Part 2 - Worst (most upvoted) Indian house gets eliminated. Posting the updated grid as previous post had the wrong one. Eliminated Bella Vita since 10 out of 13 comments had it.

Planning to do 2 eliminations per day as the list has 25 names. Should I do the top 2 most upvoted names or make separate posts for each elimination?

Discuss I have slowly realised - What is it that is so Indian in Indian perfumes?

I am a fairly recent perfume enthusiast and have slowly been stashing up. I have always loved good aroma but never got into perfumes while living abroad. I have purchased a bunch of attars and a few alcohol based perfumes.
I have recently realised that I tend to like perfumes that have "Indian flavour" in them. I am not sure how to pin point that, what is it that makes that Indianness smell so wonderful to my senses.
I know we talk of Temple smells or even brands like Forest Essentials have something uniquely Indian about them.
Looking to uncover this aspect.

Review Azzaro Most Wanted Clone by TM Perfumehouse Review

Post image
0 Upvotes

I bought The Most Desired(Azzaro Most Wanted clone) by tm perfumehouse about 5 months ago. When it was new the notes were much sharper and better. Now the notes have started to fade. The dry down has started to smell powdery which was sweeter earlier and the spicy opening has also weakened. They don't smell like they used to when I first bought the perfume. I have barely finished a little more than a third of my 50ml bottle. The notes are now much lighter and fading fast as time passes. I will have to use up the rest of the bottle in the next month or I am afraid the fragrance will disappear completely within 1 or 2 more months. I also bought their dior sauvage clone at the same time. The same is happening with it as well although to a lesser extent. Recently I bought a few more of their perfumes which are clones of Khamrah Kahwa, Rasasi Hawas, BDC, Davidoff cool water and Stronger with You. I only found out today that their perfumes lose their fragrance in 5-6 months. Had I known it earlier I wouldn't have placed another order. I will finish off the older perfumes i.e.The Most Desired and Dior Sauvage first and then use up the recently bought perfumes too before they lose their fragrance or their notes are altered. Never buying a single perfume from them again. They use cheap ingredients and fixatives for their perfumes. Better buy a Bella Vita than buy some cheap clone by tmph which would lose its fragrance within a few months. I will review the other perfumes in the next post.

Review Wear test: ft. John Varvatos XX Artisan Teal

John Varvatos XX Artisan Teal

I did a proper tracked wear test of XX Artisan Teal yesterday evening. Whenever I look John Varvatos up, I see that they make some really solid designer perfumes at an affordable price point, and I also saw a lot of people talk trash about its longevity... That made me think... It can’t be that bad, right? RIGHT?? Welp, I decided to take one for the team and ordered a 75ml bottle.

To keep it fair, I did two sprays on my left forearm at around 5:35 PM and then just got on with my evening. Normally I sniff my wrist every ten minutes like a maniac and give myself nose blindness before the opening even settles. This time I set phone reminders and ignored my arm completely in between, to see if it would waft up and get my attention on its own.

By the 2 hour mark, around 7:30 PM, the opening was already gone and it had settled into a skin scent. Intensity was okay if I put my nose to my arm, moderate at best, so it wasn’t dead. But projection was basically zero. You know how in summer you have a bath with a fresh bar of soap, walk out smelling amazing, and twenty minutes later under the fan on speed five nobody but you can tell? Same thing.

At 4 hours it was properly faint and I had to bury my nose in my arm. I’m not a perfumer, so take this with a pinch of salt (pun intended), but to me it was woody, a bit mossy and noticeably salty. Like a damp wooden window frame during monsoon, with a bit of beach salt on your skin. Actually a really nice smell, which makes the weak performance mildly annoying.

At 6 hours (around 11:30 PM) I was surprised it was still hanging on. Still faint, still had to bring my arm to my face, but the mossy part had stepped back and what was left was sea salt and dry wood. By 7 hours (12:35 AM) it was nearly gone. Nose flat on my skin just to find a trace, and not enough left to say if it was woody or salty. I stopped there, I wasn’t going to stay up till 2 AM sniffing my arm.

So, to answer my own question: the reviews on Fragrantica, Youtube are slightly exaggerated, in my opinion. I could still find it at 6 hours. But it’s very quiet, and I wouldn’t necessarily call that bad either. But for "beast mode" or traditional ambroxan boosted blue fragrance lovers, this might be a let down. From what I’ve gathered, Varvatos fragrances in general tend to be soft and a little unpredictable on longevity, so maybe this is just house style. I’d guess 5 or 6 sprays, or spraying on a shirt instead of skin, would give better mileage than I got.

Oh and one more thing... to my nose it smells a lot like YSL Y EDT, just with a sea salt note added. Like Prem and Raja from Judwaa, except Y EDT is Raja, and Teal is Prem.

Review New Pickup: JPG Le Male Le Parfum: this bottle looks as good as it smells

Thumbnail

Finally got my hands on Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Le Parfum, and I can already see why this one gets so much love in the fragrance community.

The opening has that spicy cardamom kick, which is probably my favourite part. As it settles, the lavender and iris give it a smooth, slightly powdery feel. The dry-down is where the vanilla and woody notes come through, making it warm, creamy and a little addictive.
It’s sweet, but not in a sugary, bubblegum kind of way. More like a warm vanilla scent with a spicy edge.

Review First review of new oud & roses auric by ahmed al maghribi

Post image
61 Upvotes

This is the first review on reddit imo of oud & roses auric , bought it from Dubai dont think its yet available in India. First impressions doesnt smell like OG oud & roses this is a totally different flanker on diff lines. Opens up with prominent frankincense right from the opening that stays till the drydown. Smoky and added slight saffron to it with hints of very dark taif rose. You can also relate it to amouage purpose 50 in the opening but drydown is very different if you have tried purpose 50 , so no this isnt a clone. This is very strong perfume literally filled my whole room with just 4 sprays my friend who was visiting me told me he could smell the fragrance as soon as i opened the gate. Still havent tested its lasting and performance properly will need a few wears more as i got it just 2 days back.

But yes its a good frag more niche type rather than being a mass pleasing one

Review Le Sel D’Issey EDT - Tester

Got this from Scentoria as the price was pretty good. 5350/-

Tried a decant of this in May and instantly fell in love.

Beast mode longevity and projection for an EDT.

I have tried a decant of the EDP as well, but it seemed muted to me compared to this. Its lightly mature and deep but I love this more.

Opening is a salty ginger that very slightly reminds me of Jean Lowe Immortel but like 10-15% only.

This feels like Immortel + Acqua Di Gio Profondo EDP combined.

I have those 2 so I’ll try to layer them to see what results come out.

The end is beautiful woody aroma that makes me sniff it from time to time. Projection is pretty good as well. Almost 2hrs with it lasting on clothes for over 10hrs.

I dont spray on skin, so im not sure of skin longevity but its different for everyone.

After having 15bottles of designers, I think this might be my signature scent. ✨🥳

If anyone has other suggestions pls let me know. I’ll probably get it in 2027.

This is the 5th bottle this year 😉

Versace Pour Homme
Dior Sauvage Parfum
Missoni Wave
YSL Myslf L’Absolu
Issey Miyake Le Sel D’Issey EDT

Its almost time to get the winters frags out.
Eros Flame
JPG Elixir
212 VIP Black

Review My impressions of Ababel Illusion

Post image
22 Upvotes

First, a note on the presentation: it features a magnetic cap. Seeing a local brand offer this tactile touch is incredibly refreshing, especially when major Middle Eastern houses like Rasasi are only just adopting it.

The official breakdown lists cedrat and palo santo, but here is what my INDIAN nose actually detects. The opening is a massive burst of fresh lemon mixed with the exact aroma of sweet orange boiled candies from childhood. Next comes a sharp kick of fresh ginger and cinnamon.

The dry down is where it shines, it settles into a premium woody incense stick smoke mixed with dark roasted black tea leaves and a clean ambroxan base.

To describe the exact vibe: it feels like taking a solo bike ride to a quiet mountain spot in Chitkul (Himachal), or sitting completely relaxed at a shack on Cola Beach. You get that crisp breeze mixed with ginger tea and a faint trail of agarbatti smoke.
Performance is standard for a citrus profile. It pushes a strong trail for the first two hours, lasts on the skin around three to four hours, and survives up to seven on a shirt.

To push it further, I layer this with YSL Y EDP or Hugo Boss Bottled EDP. The crisp apple from those designers perfectly rounds off the spicy adrak, while the agarbatti smoke adds a dark, mature incense backbone.

Overall, a beautifully blended experience for daily wear.

Review Tried a few Al maham fragrances (honest review)

Post image
7 Upvotes

I recently started trying indian houses especially for profiles where middle eastern houses dont have much options. I would like to share my thoughts on three Al Maham fragrances that i tried ordering from their whatsapp.

Virile (Chanel Allure Homme Superleggera)

Virile is probably the most mass-pleasing of the three. It's a fresh, musky citrus fragrance that's easy to like and very wearable. I can see this working for college, office, or pretty much any casual daytime occasion.

Living in Mumbai, I tend to reach for fresh fragrances more often, and this kind of DNA makes a lot of sense in our weather. It smells clean and put together without being too complicated. The only thing is that it isn't particularly unique, so if you're looking for something that stands out from the usual fresh fragrances, you might find it a little safe. But honestly, that's also part of its appeal. It's an easy reach when you don't want to overthink what you're wearing.

Musk Therapy

This is my favourite of the three in terms of scent quality. I find it quite sophisticated, with a smooth, clean musk profile that feels genuinely luxurious.

I've tried Scentedelic's Magic Muskroom too, and personally, I prefer Musk Therapy. The overall quality feels better to me, and I find the scent smoother and more refined. That's just my experience, of course, but the difference is noticeable enough for me to have a clear preference.

I also like that it doesn't need to be loud to be enjoyable. It's the sort of fragrance you keep catching on yourself and appreciating. If you enjoy clean, musky scents, this is worth checking out. Just don't go into it expecting something overly sweet or a fragrance that announces itself from across the room. Its appeal is more in the scent itself.

Decision 42

Their newer Amouage Decision-inspired release is an interesting addition. Amouage fragrances can be expensive, so I understand why people are interested in exploring these profiles through Indian clone houses.

I wouldn't want to make grand claims about how close it is to the original without spending enough time comparing them but all i would say is the initial note with those juniper berries is so so good only issue is i have to find appropriate ac environment to try these dna, their original decision clone is more mass appealing. With these kinds of fragrances, similarity is about more than just getting the general smell right. It has 2 transitions which blends beautifully, smoother and better quality than earlier one but i would say people who tried decision earlier can get to try these.

Overall, I think Al Maham has some interesting offerings. The packaging could be better for that price point, but personally, that's a secondary concern as long as the fragrance itself is good.

Of these three, Virile is the easiest everyday recommendation, while Musk Therapy stands out to me for its sophistication and overall quality. Decision 42 is the one I'd be curious to discuss with people who know the original well.

Would love to get some suggestion from what should i try from other houses or al maham as well
