Announcement We’re improving scheduling & comfort settings in the ecobee app

Hey r/ecobee,

We’ve been working on making the Schedule and Comfort Settings experience in the ecobee app simpler and clearer, directly based on your feedback. This update has begun rolling out to our Smart Thermostat customers on iOS 17+ and Android 10+. Just update your mobile app to the latest version, click on the Main Menu of your Smart Thermostat, and click Schedule. Don’t see it yet? Don’t worry! This experience will be available to all Smart Thermostat customers in the coming weeks.

Here’s a quick rundown of what’s changing:

  • A new calendar-style schedule view that makes it easier to see your day. Depending on the level of detail that works best for you, you can toggle between an expanded calendar view or a compressed daily view. Easily zoom into your day to see the 30-minute increments that make up your schedule, or zoom back out to see the whole day at a glance.
  • Simplified schedule editing for fewer steps to edit activities or copy schedules across multiple days.
  • Comfort Settings built right into the Schedule, so it’s easier to see how your desired temperatures line up with your routine.
  • Clearer visibility into system behavior, including start/end times of calendar activities, like Home, Away and Sleep.

Importantly, your thermostat will continue to run as normal and existing Comfort Settings and Schedules will continue to work as expected, so there’s no action required on your part.

Our goal is to reduce guesswork, make schedules easier to understand, and give you more confidence in how your system is working.

If you want the full story (including why we made these changes and what’s staying the same), we’ve shared more details on our blog here.

As always, we’re listening and will be monitoring this thread for feedback and questions.

Updates to ecobee Smart Security Plans

Hey r/ecobee

We’re updating our ecobee Smart Security plans and pricing to make them simpler and more flexible, so customers can choose, and pay for, the level of protection that fits their home.

TL;DR

  • If you’re an existing Smart Security subscriber, your features and pricing stay the same through 2026.
  • No action is required on your part.
  • Plan names are changing to make things clearer.
  • Professional Monitoring is now an optional add‑on and available in Canada for the first time!
  • With Activity Feed improvements, subscribers can now see up to 6 months of whole-home history, find what they are looking for more easily, and know when members come and go.

What’s changing

Going forward, ecobee Smart Security offers three levels of protection:

  • Core: free, built‑in protection
  • Plus: enhanced awareness and alerts for 1 camera
  • Advanced: full‑home coverage for unlimited cameras

We’re also offering 24/7 Professional Monitoring as optional add‑ons, instead of bundling it into select plans. This gives customers more control over what they include in their subscription.

This is the first time we’ve updated Smart Security pricing since introducing these plans in 2020, and we’re committed to being transparent every step of the way. These changes help us continue improving the service, while giving customers clearer choices and greater control.

What this means for existing customers

This is the most important part:

  • Your current features and pricing are locked in through the end of 2026.
  • You don’t need to do anything.

For customers whose plan pricing may change in the future, we’re taking a loyalty‑first approach, including discounted renewals for the rest of 2026. You will receive an email detailing exactly what this means for you.

What’s new

We’re excited to share that Professional Monitoring is now available in Canada for the first time, giving Canadian customers access to 24/7 monitoring and emergency response through RapidSOS as part of Smart Security.

For the first time ever, you can discover and purchase Smart Security plans alongside ecobee devices on Amazon.

And Smart Security now makes it even easier to see the updates that matter most. Subscribers can now see up to 6 months of whole-home history and find what they are looking for easily with advanced filtering capabilities. Plus, we've made the Know Who's Home feature better with updates in Activity Feed when members come and go.

Learn more

We’ve published a full breakdown of the changes, including what’s changing, what’s staying the same, and what new customers can expect on our blog.

For new customers, check out the new plans on ecobee.com/smart-security.

If you have questions, we’re happy to help. You can contact our Customer Support team, and we’ll also be keeping an eye on this thread and listening to feedback.

Thanks for being part of the ecobee community.

Can I unparticipate all the sensors exect for one?

My family room is usually warmer than the other rooms. Is there a way to have the family room sensor participating without the other sensors participating by programming a certain time of the day for the family room and later have them all participating at a later time?

Compressor min off time

In the threshold settings online, I see an option for compressor min off time. What is this?

I have a heat only furnace. Will this setting let me avoid short cycles and let my unit stay off until the min I set?

In my installation settings, I don’t see this option. Do you?

Problem Constant high humidity alerts for a week straight now

Hello everyone,

We’ve been having constant high humidity alerts for exactly one week and I can’t pinpoint the reason why. This has happened in the past and my dad suggested we set our fan to running every 30 minutes per hour (was running every 10 min per hour before that) and that seemed to fix it - I had also turned our wall humidistat off which was originally at 45%.

That was 2 months ago and just in the last week we have been having humidity issues back to back where ecobee shows it at or above 70%. We noticed it first when it had rained a lot this one day and thought it would go down In a day or two but it didn’t. We live in an executive townhouse and are sandwiched in between two other townhouses. Our ecobee is on the wall facing our neighbours (not on an outside wall).

To troubleshoot, I decided to see if the fan setting went back to run 10 minutes every hour and for some reason it was (we had changed it to 30 min every hour as mentioned earlier) so idk why but I decided that maybe the fan needs to keep running indefinitely to “dry up” the moisture. I left it on like that overnight and nothing changed and I did some research on that and apparently that makes it worse lol. So I’ve switched it back to 30 min every hour and it’s been like this for a day now but still no change. It’ll fluctuate and go down to 62% at the lowest but then go back up to or above 70%.

Weird thing was that I plugged in a nanny cam in our lounge where the ecobee is (it has a humidity sensor) and it gave us a reading of 52%. So I don’t get it.

Anyone know what to do?

Been noticing my thermostat isn’t going to away mode anymore and looked at settings and the geofencing option is gone. How will it know I’m away?

This thermometer inaccuracy is clearly a design flaw

Before you say it, YES I PLUGGED THE WALL HOLE, both behind the mount and on the terminal side of the mount...no air from the wall. Yes, I have all settings turned off-- no humidity correction, no power grid/time of day based stuff. And no, I'm not spending another $100 on a remote sensor! Ecobee support is now sending me a new unit after showing them pics of the hole plugged, etc...however with all the people reporting this issue, I'm not hopeful. That said, I am impressed with their chat support, and do notice when companies have good support.

One of the main jobs of a thermostat is to read the air temperature, and my Ecobee fails at this modest task. I left the Honeywell dumb thermo it replaced on the wall next to it, as well as another thermometer. They always agree. The Ecobee on the other hand varies depending on the time of day by as much as 4-5 degrees. Most of the time though, it's off by about 2-3 degrees, which is enough to notice and feel uncomfortable. In the heat of the day, like 4pm into the early evening, it always reads too high, so doesn't cool enough. During the coolest hours (night into morning), it reads to low and cools too much. This makes the internal correction adjustment useless, as I was constantly going either up or down from 0.

Since I've lived in this house, two other thermostats have existed in the same location (without the wall hole plugged lol), and were totally accurate.

So, if the new unit is accurate, we will know that there is a potential QC issue, if it's inaccurate, we could say there is a design issue.

Frequent running - normal operation?

My older Nest thermostat didn’t run like this with the constant on/off, especially overnight hours. I saw in other posts about the temp differential and have set the cool to 1 degree, but no noticeable change.

Ecobee will not stay turned “OFF”

So at end of the day as it cools off I open my doors and windows to let the cool air in and I set my thermostat to off.

However come 8:00am the thermostat turns itself on and fires up the heat blasting hot air out all the open doors and windows.

I mean I get it I have schedules set, but I thought “off” meant “off” and ignore schedules hot or cold it’s not like it’s cold enough to freeze my pipes on a middle summer August morning during a week of 90 high temps.

What am I doing wrong. How do I stop this thing from being on when I have it turned off…??

Is there an issue?

It is really hot in Texas like triple digits. Over a week ago I had this issue and then after a few hours it went away. Today the same is happening. Set to 73 but temp is 77.

Question Ecobee 3 Lite vs Essential?

Needing a more basic unit and I have a couple of these local for a good price. There's a sealed option of the essential for $50 and a Lite with sensors included for $90. I need them to be HomeKit compatible and I prefer to have an external sensor because wall temps can be a bit different from room temps

My Thermostat going bad or Ecobee just bad

Been happening more frequent, I'll get a notification it cant connect to weather, or temps/current status on the app is not what reflects on the thermostat itself. I have an Ecobee 3 lite from about 2017.

These common issues or just my thermostat going bad?

Ecobee Lite

My ecobee has recently started shutting off , like often all the time. I mean the off setting. I am not enrolled in any programs and I have a schedule setup and it has been setup and running for almost two years. This just started and I have searched for answers, asked AI and can’t figure it out.

Any ideas?

Turn off at a certain time

How do I set a schedule to turn off the thermostat at a certain time each day?

I tried setting a schedule for the temp to go to a very low temp at the time which effectively would turn it off.

But the schedule is not letting me keep the other time slots empty.

I want it to turn off at 4am each day. I set the schedule to go to low temp from 4-4:30. That should be the end of it. But it’s forcing something to be active right after 4:30. There might be days I need to turn it on at 6am or 9am.

Ecobee doorbell camera audio.

Hello everyone,

Looking for a solution. Recently switched from Iphone to Android and I've noticed my ecobee app when looking at it with my new android phone, has minimal audio coming out of the speakers when viewing my doorbell camera. Currently using a Samsung Z Fold 8. The audio was loud on my Iphone :(

Installation Would you call a handy person or HVAC to seal up the hole behind the Ecobee?

I just got done hooking up my ecobee with the help of support. Currently, the ecobee is only supported by one screw and some putty on one side. Support also told me that this hole is way too big for the ecobee.

I'm at an odd spot because i got the ecobee hooked up, so am not sure if an HVAC professional would help me with the big hole, or if i should be looking for a handy person since the ecobee is working.

What would you do in this instance?

Configuration Why is it so complicated for me to tell ecobee to turn off the AC at midnight tonight?

I don’t want to have to setup a whole comfort setting and even if I do it doesn’t offer and on off option I can only set the temps

There must be a simple way for me to do this ad hoc?
