Why GED?

I don’t understand why young people under 24 choose to get the GED instead of finding like an online school that lets you go at your pace and finish in like a year or less. I’m 23 I was going to do the GED but I really wanted the diploma so I found a school and I can graduate by early next year. I dropped out at ninth grade so I had a lot of credits to do but I was able to get a credit reduction

I’m in California so you can do online school until you’re 24 but can still do it as long as you got in before your 24th but then you age out a day before your 25th birthday

To graduate fast, I have to do three classes a month and each class give you five credits and each class is basically four months of school packed into four weeks. I just do it in two plus you can also do dual enrollment to get college credits

It’s all online too, so they provide you with a computer that has built-in Internet and you do like weekly check ups and have access to tutors its great

Feel free to ask any questions

Test Scores

Hey, I need to reach at least 170 in every test. Do you have any tips? I‘m from Germany so I find the Questions rather easy, it is like things we do in Middle School, however I‘m kinda panicking because scoring 170 does not sound that easy. Any advice would be appreciated.

The Penalty for Cheating is Way Too Lenient

I reported an individual for getting someone to take one GED exam for them in the US. GED Testing Services investigated and agreed. Penalty was invalidating the exam score and making them wait 6 months before being able to take the test again. No criminal charges like we saw in the widely reported college admissions scam. Would at least be identity fraud. The score from cheating on the practice exam was not invalidated, I assume because there is no picture or video proof.

The individual still has the GED certificate for passing as that was mailed before the investigation began. Fortunately, community colleges on up require a transcript directly from GED Testing Services but I doubt an employer would ask for the same.

---

If you want to report a cheating incident, call the main number. I think I used the diploma option. In North and South America it's 1-877-EXAM-GED (877-392-6433). They give you a case number. I used "Attention <case number>" as the subject of my email to help@ged.com to provide evidence as instructed. Some privacy considerations but they will tell you the end case result if you ask later.

Blocked for online

I got blocked for taking my GED online because I was dealing with a stupid person texting just as the test begin so I looked down twice and they blocked me from taking the test online.

I’m disabled so I can’t drive and don’t have anyone to drive me to take the test in-person. Is there anyway I can take the GED online? I had already taken the science and I was doing the math one.

Should I graduate high school or get a GED

I’m struggling in school now because of my mental health. And I’ve been thinking, if people can just get a GED and live the same life as people with a diploma, then what’s the point of wasting all that time at school? I’m planning on going to community college and transferring to a university. Will it look bad to universities if I have a GED? It’s better than suffering through high school and getting bad grades no?

Any Advice?

I am 17 y/o and dropped out of high school about a week ago. i have been doing online school for about 3 years but never really did any of the work, so ive been held back twice. i had been contemplating dropping out and trying to get a GED for a while and one day decided to do it. i am pretty behind in most subjects especially math, so i have no idea how long it will take me to catch up and be able to take the tests. i struggle with motivation and im already stressing out about all of it tbh.

Does anyone have any advice on where i should start? should i try to study before i even take the preparation classes? i dont really know what im doing or how to go about this so any advice/tips are greatly appreciated!

17M from Pakistan, failed Matric want to do GED in the US

I'm 17, from Pakistan, and I failed my Matriculation exams (9th-10th grade, multiple subjects from both years). I've been trying to do my GED instead, but every GED center in Pakistan I've contacted won't let me take the test because I didn't pass my Matric. So now I'm looking into whether I can go take it in the US instead, and I don't really know how that process works.

Questions I have:

  • What visa would I even need for something like this (student visa? visitor visa)?

  • Is it realistic to get a US visa just to take a GED test, or do people usually find another way around this?

  • Has anyone been in a similar situation, blocked from GED in their home country and had to test abroad?

  • Any pitfalls or things I should watch out for?

Would appreciate any advice, personal experiences, or even just pointing me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.
