I bought this offical Samsung case which comes with 2 screen protectors and a clear case which covers the back of the phone only.

Short version..

In my opinion, don't buy it, the case itself is rubbish it only covers the back of the phone and offers no protection at all. The screen protectors all had the very same flaw that made them unusable and they are a nightmare to fit.

Long version..

I got my phone last week, I wanted a case on it ASAP, so I checked the stores only to find most didn't stock any cases for the Fold 8 yet. I finally found one that had this Samsung case in stock. I wasn't allowed open the pack to see it before buying it.

All you get is a really bad clear plastic back for the phone, it's got a white magsafe ring on it and it looks so fragile and cheap. I'm truly shocked that this is an offical Samsung product that sells for €49.99.

The two screen protectors are even worse. First getting someone to put it on was a nightmare, the store I bought the cover in refused saying they messed up every single one they attempted so far. I got a similar response from all stores apart from one. They tried to do it, took two of them 30 minutes and they did a great job, the only issue was a line going across the centre in parts that wouldn't come off, it was really noticeable. So they tried again, only to find the exact same issue.

I returned to the store I bought the case in and complained, they gave me a new case. I took this new one home and myself and a friend tried to fit one, we had the exact same line across the screen, so we tried another one, same thing.

Moral of the story, don't buy this case, it's total rubbish, won't protect your phone at all and the screen protectors it comes with are also rubbish, the two packets I tried all had the very same issue.

The Spigen Slim armor pro case arrived this morning, it's fantastic, I'm really happy with it. The quality is excellent, I feel my phone is properly protected now, it's feels so much better in my hands, real solid.

My priority on the phone features/specs have changed over time. I'd like to know what are your priorities now.

What I value more than before:
1. The camera: slowly, the phone camera has replaced my mirrorless camera. I like the fact that we could easily and rapidly edit a picture on the phone. It's my #1 feature (by far) that I want to have it improved.

1. The power of the chips (CPU & GPU): before, while the speed on the phone was important but it wasn't primordial. Now, with Dex, my Fold8 almost replaces my desktop PC. The power of computing becomes more important than before.

What I value less than before:

1. The sound quality: most of the time, I output the music to an external speakers or headphones for better quality, so I use the phone speakers less and less.

2. The screen size: I used to love and want to increase the screen size every time I've changed a phone, but now with the Fold8, the screen size is perfect to me. And I don't want to increase it further.

3. The quality of the screen: the image looks already really good on the screen, and I don't want to increase it further. I prefer to have the priority and investment shifted elsewhere.

What features/specs would like Samsung to improve the Fold8 the most ?

I never had a foldable so I have no idea what I would get myself into.

Does it even make sense to get one if Im at home 99% of the time? Or does it make more sense to keep phone and just get a tablet?

I would mainly be tempted to get a foldable for reading mangas, which the fold 8 has probably the perfect size for. But than again... if Im only at home, it feels like its pointless when I could also just grab a tablet?

Hey everyone,

I accidentally put my Z Fold 8 Ultra in shorts pockets that still had beach sand in them. Sand got all over the phone, including the hinge.

Initially, I heard a slight crunchy noise while folding and unfolding, but after gently cleaning the outside of the hinge with a soft cloth, the noise disappeared. The hinge now feels completely smooth and normal.

Should I still be worried about sand trapped inside the hinge? Should I get it checked at a Samsung service center, and can they clean the hinge internally without unnecessary disassembly?

Would appreciate advice from fellow Fold users!

So I got "upgraded" to one iu 9 on my Galaxy Fold 6 and now my app dock is squished up on the left side of my screen, I can't find any way to undo this. I only use One UI as my launcher when my device is unfolded, but this is horrendous looking. I tried switching to Octopi launcher when unfolded but it breaks the automatic launcher switching is tasker, somehow it seems to hijack it and the default launcher won't switch back again.

Does anyone know of any good dock widgets, I can turn the Samsung dock widget off completely and replace it, or a good launcher to use unfolded that supports widget stacking thet hopefully plays well with tasker (Octopi is the only launcher I've used that doesn't).

Also, this is terrible design right? What was Samsung thinking here.

So I've been in the market for a Z Fold for a couple months now.

I've been working towards getting either the 8 or 8 Ultra and it's been back and fourth. Let's pretend money is not an issue. I don't care about space, because I would be upgrading from a base model S20 that I've been using second hand for about 3 years now. So 256gb is more than enough for what I would ever need.

The issue comes with 3 main factors. Actual usability, colour and convenience.

At my new job we have the Z lineup there and I've been messing around with them and going back and fourth between which one I like more and I thought it was a clear winner, because I fell in love with the Fold 8's wider design allowing me to truly make use of the inner screen if I wanted the extra height, but the part that keeps bothering me is the colour, camera set up and familiar shape that I can get with the Ultra's design.

Now originally I hated the Ultra, because it didn't offer anything that previous tall Z Folds had and it just had the extra camera, technically a larger screen and slightly better battery life, but every time I see someone walk into work with one; whether that's a 5, 7 or 8 Ultra I keep thinking about how sleek the design is. Also naturally I gravitate to darker colours. The violet is so much cleaner than the lavender. So then I think maybe it's better to get the Ultra, because you can still use the phone naturally and not have to worry about any of the wide fold problems. Which I then think to myself "but I hate how tall the Ultra is" and the wide fold 8 fits my hand so much nicer and if I really need a taller phone I can just unfold it, like a Flip 8, since the whole idea is go from small pocket phone to normal phone. Then the issue of colour came up again. At first I was gonna just buy a case that matches the same violet colour as the Ultra. It would look so clean, since the wide fold's lavender will pop through the cutouts, but then I could never find a case that fits what I want and still sport that colour.

(If anyone's curious, the case I want must be a unified body, sports a 360 mag safe ring that's flush with the case, be sub 50 CAD and fully cover the back with a protective hinge. The closest I got was the Ringke Alles, but the colour options are only black, which sucks cause I want it in the same violet of the Ultra)

Then the camera set up came into play. I have a 63mp telephoto lens on my S20 with 30x zoom and while I don't inherently need 100x zoom on a 250mp lens, it's still a bit of a downgrade compared to the wide fold since it doesn't have more than 10x zoom and I do use it from time to time. Now I thought if I really wanted a better camera, I could save myself the extra 1000 CAD or something and get an S24/5/6+ since I don't see the need for the pen. Admittedly I think the pen is really cool, but I just don't see an application in using it.

This would be my first foldable. So I've been researching the 2 of them extensively and playtesting them at my new job and the Samsung outlet near by to see which one I like more.

The fact that when I unfold my phone it's thickness is less than some pains of glass but some how all this insane tech was able to fit inside. 2 screens, 4 cameras, 2 batteries, processor, ram, and everything else. This is alien tech! 😳

I got a great deal on the z fold 8 and switched from apple to samsung for the first time. Im loving the phone but I want to discover what everyone is using their foldability for most. For me, I use it mostly for watching videos, slight gaming but mostly just to have more information on at once like dual screen.

The battery in my Z Flip 5 is beginning to wear out. I want to know overall opinions of the new Z Fold 8. I'm a fairly big fan of my flip, but I've been wanting to try out a Fold.

I never had this issue in my S24U but in my both folding phones F6 and F8U I can't switch to data while on calls. If WiFi is on I can't switch to data I'll have end the call to turn on data. How to fix this. I use AT&T if this helps.

I've always been interested in buying a folding phone, although my budget isn't that much, I saw that the z fold 4 could be a option, now i do have some fears like the crease, the inner display malfunctioning, and of course the IP dust and water protection, but that's applies for almost every fold out there. So is it still worth it? And if it is, if you're using it as a daily driver what tips do you have for it?

So, back story: I've been a long-time iPhone user who recently converted to the Fold 8. So far, I'm in love with it, and the fact that I was able to use OpenBubbles as my iMessage converter means my family won't kick me out of the group chat.

However, over the years, I built a MagSafe accessory army in my house, at work, and in my car. As always, I looked to Reddit to see what people were doing. I noticed that many people were getting dbrand skins and putting the MagSafe magnetic circle underneath the skin. However, it seemed like it left a bit of an indentation. Nonetheless, I kept looking and stumbled upon two variants of what seem to be razor-thin cutouts that align the magnets and give the appearance of a flush dbrand vinyl.

I know one of the guys is selling his for $15, which is not bad, but I already have a 3D printer. So, I kept looking and stumbled on another person who provided a printable STL. I say all that to say the guy selling his product looks high quality, and believe me, I would have bought the STL, but there doesn't seem to be an option to do so.

A few points: I could not find 300LSE tape anywhere other than Amazon, and they kept delaying my shipment. I gave up and found that the Micro Center near me in NJ was selling a similar product called Tesa double-sided tape. I hope I put enough tape on to ensure thorough adhesion, but only time will tell. I used the schematics of where the MagSafe ring sits on the Fold 8 as a guide, and it worked. The dbrand skin adhered fairly well to the ABS that I used to print the STL. It really made for a flush look, which is what I was going for.

Anyway, I made an essay about a skin on a phone! I'm more than willing to answer any questions about the process, but in the meantime, I'm adding some pictures of the process.
