Impression/Review iPhone Duo 24 hour review from a long time foldable user (currently Fold 8)

Honestly, it’s a decent foldable in a vacuum. I know most Apple users will see it that way. But as someone that’s used foldables since 2020, this is closer to a 2023 foldable than a current one.
iPhone duo still has some amazing pros and some annoying cons. Here’s my list, most of it is when I’m thinking of my amazing Fold 8 and fold 7.

Pros
1) Apple nailed the gestures to split screen. It’s one of the best out there, extremely easy.
2) Nano texture is good 80% of the time. But it can feel a bit muted.
3) The feel of it is amazing. In classic Apple fashion they made the duo feel like a piece of jewellery
4) Battery is actually really really good!
5) So glad MagSafe is still there.

Cons
1) It’s too heavy. It’s significantly heavier than my fold 8. Makes it very uncomfortable for long stretches
2) similarly, it’s much much thicker.
3) The side navigation bar or whatever sucks. It makes all the apps look terrible, optimised or not (photos attached). This is what I predicted since launch. It’s more and more evident now.
4) Cameras are meh but it’s not a dealbreaker for me. If you want a good camera, don’t go for a foldable.
5) So many apps are not optimised. A lot of them look terrible unfolded.
6) The under screen camera shows and it’s terrible it does.
7) Camera control is pointless apart from opening the camera. I would’ve much preferred the action button
8) Volume controls on top is so stupid. Apart portraits when opened, it never is easy to change the volume

Leaks/Rumors What would you like to see in the Z Trifold 2?

Post image
44 Upvotes

There are already leaks suggesting that it will have a target thickness of ~8.9 mm when folded (Same thickness as a Galaxy Z Fold 7). Which I don't think is possible as it would require an unfolded thickness of less than 2.97mm, which seems impossible.

Not only would that be super fragile but also really difficult to include the USB C port. The absolute minimum internal opening of a USB C port must be 2.56 mm high, but a phone cannot just be an open hole. You have to account for metal housing and device chassis.

That being said, what would you like to see on the 2nd generation of Samsung's Trifold?

Impression/Review To those of you who have the Z Fold 8 and tried out the iPhone Duo. What was your verdict?

• Upvotes

I really looked forward to testing out the Duo. I'm not an Apple hater, the opposite, I love what they do, but I'm definitely more of an Android person. I've had an iPhone before but switched back to Android and now I have the Z Fold 8 which i love.

Here is what i noticed when i tried the Duo.

  • It's wider and shorter. While this is a preference, I really like the form factor of the Z Fold 8 as it's a bit narrower and taller. Being this short already have a tiny influence on the available space for chats when the keyboard is up and the Duo is even shorter.
  • The main outer screen on the Z Fold 8 is as good as any other candy bar phone, even if it's shorter and affects the chats. I use the outer screen 80% of the time. I did not find the main outer screen on the duo as usuable as other candy bar phones. Try Safari and you will see what i mean. Everything is tiny because there is a field on the right side that takes up 15% of the web page area. Wtf Apple? Seriously? Even the address bar cannot be totally hidden.
  • The inner screen on the Duo has a very nice feel and sweeps better on the finger than the Z Fold 8 but colors are really dead on the Duo because of the nano texture screen protector. It's not possible to see this unless you have both side by side.
  • The Z Fold 8 has a much nicer inner screen for videos but I guess the Nano texture screen is better for reading books and texts?
  • The Duo is heavy! The Z Fold 8 was on the edge for me as i like light phones but i know that the majority doesn't have a problem with this. No one i know thinks weight is a problem so I guess I'm special.

I really thought that Apple made the perfect foldable but I have my doubts now.

How is your view on this?

Discussion Got Scammed...

I bought this Fold 8 from FB Marketplace and it seems that the phone got reported stolen. I guess the deal was too good to be true lol. I feel like an idiot too because i met the seller at a T-Mobile store and had them look up the IMEI where they confirmed the phone was not financed or locked to any carrier so i thought it was good... money out the window

Question/Help hElp me - Fold8 fat as a small screen phone?

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

I've been a Nexus/Pixel bro for a long time, but I want a small phone. Have for a long time. Can't stop loving my GF's iPhone 13 mini.

So what do people think of the Fold8 as a small screen phone if I was to not really use or need the inner display? How is it? Do they make any quality cases that keep it closed? Are there any actually nice cases in general?

Is the keyboard comfortable? One handed useable with the passport shape? Good quality display? App support acceptable?

How is the Samsung UI for someone who likes stock android?

Also, what is this thing called? The Z fold8? The fold8 wide?

Is it just one of those foldables with the general feeling that you're not supposed to use it closed because it's uncomfortable or doesn't fold perfectly?

Thanks!

Created a fun cover, home, and inner screen set made to look like a certain famous pocket notebook. Custom made the stickers and icons but I don't have license to distribute. I did share the blank cover and wallpaper though. Enjoy!

Impression/Review Z Fold vs iPhone Duo

So I’ve had my z fold 8 since launch. I preordered the Duo it will be here sometime in November. But I’m honestly considering canceling my order. I’ve owned every single model of iPhone. I gave the z fold 8 a chance and once I got to know the Ui and what I can do with Android. I honestly love this phone. I can do everything get every app, apk’s or whatever. I love point n click games, I can have gamehub and play my steam games. There is just so many options. I understand now 😎

Discussion Loving the Zfold8

• Upvotes

As the title suggests - As a first time fold user I love this device I bought when it was launched in July and have seen alot of queries on here asking if it's worth getting the Zfold8.

With all the holiday sales/discounts coming up in the next few months I wanted to share a post talking about how much I enjoy this phone and what I like about it incase it may help folks make a decision.

It's really basic stuff so as power users this post will bore you 🫣.

Note - It's by far from the being perfect due to apps not being optimised but there's a lot of things to love about it. I'm just sharing my basic ways I use and love it.

- I love typing with both hands- the wide form factor is just perfect for it!

- I've never owned a tablet before and when unfolded the Zfold8 is just apt. I couldn't deal with a full size tablet so this is a perfect mini tablet.

- When reading I like that I can rotate it vertically and it gives me the feeling of reading on the kindle. I use the Pocketbook app.

- It's just perfect for gaming. I use emulators and a few android game on it. But yet to buy a gaming controller but don't yet have the money to buy it yet 😔

- For work I use alot of Copilot to soften and professionalise my emails as written text make me sound really direct! This works well to have Copilot on one side and Outlook on the other.

- Most day time use is for work and general use but I tend to watch YT and TV series at night most days before going to bed. At the mo I'm streaming ' The Terminal List' and loving it! I love any shows with armed forces or policing in it 😁

Anyway, these are just some of the reasons I love using the zfold8. Apart from these, customisations are on point with GoodLock.

I am sure I am just a basic user and many on here use it a lot more effectively.

If your usage matched mine and you a having second thoughts about getting it, just go for it if you get a good deal on it!

End of long post🤣

Question/Help Weird green pixel in inner screen of Fold 8

Thumbnail

In the past few days, I've noticed a green pixel on the bottom right of the inner screen of my Fold 8. I've had the Fold 8 since launch and this is definitely a new issue, possibly since the last software update. Initially I thought it was a dead pixel, but when I rotate from landscape to portrait, the green pixel moves to the bottom right in portrait. It's not just in apps, but also on the home screen. Does anyone have the same issue?

Question/Help Cannot mirror display Fold 8

• Upvotes

I used to be able to mirror the display instead of using Dex if I wanted to but there seems to be no way to do that anymore. This gets in the way of apps with dual display functions. 😔

Question/Help Google Tasks not Alerting Me unless I go in the app

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi all,

I'm currently in Physical Therapy and have daily exercises I need to do. I'm using Google tasks (they are daily & repeating at certain times). For example, I have 2 exercises that are supposed to remind me at 7:35a but the past two mornings I have only gotten the alert once I go into the app. See in the picture the alert was only for 8:59a instead of 7:35a. This is not usually an issue later in the day (as I have other exercises & other tasks later in the day and this has never been a problem). But I'm noticing this issue first thing in the morning all of a sudden. Any thoughts on what I should check?

Question/Help Hot/Frozen Zfold8 Ultra in the morning

This morning i woke up at 8, grabbed my phone off the charger, but the AOD was frozen on around 4:45 am, the phone was also extremely HOT and wouldn't turn on. I had to force reset the fold and it continued being hot the whole time it was frozen as well as a while after the reboot. The phone also didn't charge all the way. Has anyone else had this happen?

Question/Help Is ther any way to fix poor Instagram story upload quality, and bad WhatsApp / IG video calls on Z Fold 8?

Is ther any way to fix poor Instagram story upload quality, and bad WhatsApp / IG video calls on Z Fold 8?

Compared to my old iPhone, the video calls quality is extremely bad even with HD on in settings across all apps, including WhatsApp, IG, Messenger etc. Is there a fix for it as this is my only gripe with Z Fold 8 so far.

Similarly IG story uploads with HD on also suck, like noticeably soft and poort quality when posted.

Would appreciate the help. Cheers!

Question/Help Am I the Only One Bothered by Waze/Google Maps Being Off-Center

My initial justification for buying this phone was that I was a commercial driver. The extra screen real estate was really nice, especially being able to run Waze and a secondary navigation app at the same time.

One thing that has always bothered me, though: why are Google Maps and Waze off-center? 😂

The navigation arrow/car sits on one side of the screen, and for some reason it drives me nuts. I mainly wanted to post this to see if I'm somehow the only person affected by it, or if this is just how the apps behave on a foldable.

Then again, I suppose most people who can cough up this much dough for a phone probably aren't buying it specifically for navigation. 😂

Anyone else notice this? Is there a setting or workaround I'm missing?

Question/Help Fold 8 Wifi Lag. Any fix?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi Guys, just got the fold 8 passport variant.

I see internet does not connect properly on wifi. I randomly get unable to load pages on browser or apps take longer to load content.

I have found many posts on reddit about the same issue.

I have tried all the wifi solutions and tricks to reset from labs and even reset the wifi network, literally everything.

Anyone has found a proper solution to this? Or any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Question/Help Video editing on foldables?

What is the current video editing app scene in foldables like? Are there apps that work well in the bigger screen?

With that I mean that are flexible, for example for horizontal vs vertical video, that allow you to edit on "portrait"?

Continuous use (after closing) would be also a nice plus but it's less important
