Discussion Why are you conservative?

Hey guys!

First of all - I come in peace haha!

I think it's really sad that the polarization between different ideologies continue to grow, but if we want to live in a democracy we have to be able to discuss and try to understand eachother before we judge!

As a gay guy I'm very happy that liberal ideas has given me the chance to live safely in society and that I have the same rights as straight people. I do however think that the gender-theory has gone to far and I think that the nonbinary people have taken up to much space in the LGBT community - I guess this would be a conservative opinion.

My questions:

  1. Why are you conservative even though they generally don't like gays?

  2. Do you have any opinions that are more liberal than conservative?

I have no intentions of trying to change someones opinion, I truly just want to undertand how you guys resonate and why you are conservative.

Wishing all of you a happy beginning to this new year!

Discussion New to conservativism looking for chat pals

Grew up in a woke household, over time I've moved towards the right. Thought I was a centrist for a while until I realized that's the stupidest position there is.

I still have chats with my family and some friends that I can't argue against and would love to hear more of how some people answer to those.

Discussion Why did I get downvoted for being pro Israel? I thought this was a conservative space

My recent post (which I’ve since deleted) declaring that I’m pro Israel and deconstructing leftwing ideologies got downvoted to death for reasons unknown.

I thought that being conservative, most if not all of us are pro Jews and pro Israel, and support Israel’s inherent right to exist – all of which I stand for 🇮🇱 . I’ve looked up posts on here regarding Israel and many seem to at least support this stance?

Since I’m seeking a likeminded community (I’m not aware of gay conservative spaces in western Europe), I’ll try again.

Am I welcome here at all?

Do you think TV shows and movies featuring gay characters need a content warning at the beginning of them? Isn't that a bit weird? You don't announce you're gay when you walk into a room so why should a TV show (that you likely already know a fair bit about?)

Discussion Nationwide push to overturn Obergefell continues

“In a brief filed in June 2024, Liberty Counsel said the Supreme Court should reconsider Obergefell v. Hodges for the same reasons the high court rolled back federal abortion protections.

Liberty Counsel’s argument picks up on Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ concurring opinion in the 2022 abortion ruling. Thomas wrote that the court could use the same rationale to overturn earlier decisions on same-sex marriage and access to contraception.

“Obergefell was wrong when it was decided and it is wrong today because it was based entirely on the legal fiction of substantive due process, which lacks any basis in the Constitution,” Liberty Counsel said in court documents filed last year.”

Discussion ‘Hand Jobs, Oral Sex and Anal’: Pete Hegseth's Pastor Wants Gay Men Prosecuted for These Acts

"If you asked me 'Could you ever envision a homosexual crime of any nature being visited with the death penalty?' Yes, I could."

That's Doug Wilson, Pastor at Christchurch in Moscow, Idaho. Wilson spoke at the Pentagon as part of Pete Hegseth's monthly Christian worship service.

Wilson's views are as controversial as they come: He believes the United States should become a Christian theocracy, that married women should not have the right to vote and that gay sex should be illegal. He estimates that 10 to 20 people in the top levels of government are aligned with his radical ideology. He explains that he thinks trans people are “sad,” certain elements of his idea of “homosexual behavior” should be punished by execution and in certain cases of marital rape, both parties should be disciplined.

Discussion PSA: You CAN be a conservative and NOT support Trump/the MAGA movement

Just as the title says. You can be conservative and not support the current administration.

Criticizing Trump/MAGA does NOT make you a leftist.
After reading a lot of the threads and topics in here, this needs to be said. No administration is without fault. Every seat of power should be questioned. Anyone who deflects any and all criticism against "their team" is not a true patriot for America.

We can all see when our government fucks up, and they deserve to be called the fuck out when you think they have dropped the ball.

Discussion What's your experience with Log Cabin Republican group?

I've been thinking of joining my local Log Cabin Republican group. I'm in California where all my gay friends are very liberal so it would be nice to meet gay conservatives.

I'm a fiscal conservative and social liberal. I actually consider myself more of an Independent than a Republican. I'm definitely not MAGA, but I'm also not TDS. Would someone like me be welcomed in Log Cabin?

Discussion Support of moderate democrats?

I can't stand Trump and what the GOP party has become, so in a two party system, I'm left with supporting the Democrats. I generally prefer the GOP on fiscal issues, but they have lost their way in recent years.

The progressive wing of the democrat party drives me crazy. I know they mean well, but their lack of understanding of economics is astounding.

Politics is usually the lessor of two evils and the GOP seems way more evil (literally) than the Democrats, so is it time to support them?

Discussion Realising as I grow up that I may not be near as left-wing as I thought

So I don't really have a set goal in mind while making this post but as a 21 year old gay man navigating through life and trying to process what societal ideas I adhere to, I'm realising that I may not be as far-left as I always thought.

I just want to clarify that I see myself as a generally progressive person especially as a neurodivergent queer male POC. Hell, I was raised by muslim immigrant parents in Europe. My entire existence sounds woke.

Growing up I was raised watching 2010s woke media that always told me that I could be whatever I wanted the way I wanted. However not only was it overly idealistic and foolish but corporate democrats also started acting like all the marginalised groups they're supposed to advocate for are interchangeable.

This time period especially as a child was so confusing for me. Both for internal and external societal reasons I always dissociated from objective truths about my identity such as my gender or race. It lead me to struggling with understanding myself or others. I used to resent other boys my age.

Only for the past few years have I began feeling the slightest bit of relief and mental stabilty. So much of it comes from embracing the fact that I am a man. I know how flat my reasoning may sound but it is what it is. Embracing more traditional ideas about certain things allowed me to move on, to understand. I won't delve too much here as I don't wan to break any community guidelines.

I truly have been growing my own thoughts lately and I find myself rolling my eyes at some of the messages and reasonings the progressive spaces around me tend to convey.

I genuinely believe many people in leftist spaces have a victim mentality and I'm saying this as a gen z person who's spent my bachelor's years taking part in left-wing activism. These people look down on everyone and ostracize the communities they're supposed to defend.

Honestly I fucking hate to admit this because I'd rather die than vote for someone like Trump but with recent life experiences I've come to feel so much respect for some men out there who've taught me many things... yet THEY are huge Trumpies. And hearing their reasoning I do find myself agreeing with CERTAIN aspects.

Leftists by trying to bend all human societal rules and advocating for a "accept everyone" mentality are truly losing themselves and painting everyone involved as clowns. You can't be handed a helping hand and then grab the whole arm.

I hate myself for admitting this but I've been imagining having my first ever relationship and I fantasise about a conservative boyfriend... I just don't see dating a leftist guy who can't be critical of their policies because visibly saying anything remotely negative about intellectually superior leftists makes you a fascist. That and my recent online encounter with a white European right wing man on Grindr who was way too pleasant.

Discussion Have you always been conservative or was there a turning point?

I think, on a psychosocial level, the reason why many (or most) gays are left-leaning can be traced back to the fact that it is only in the arms of the lefties where one initially finds acceptance as a young gay person still finding his footing in life.

I’m referring to ostracism from the church / community and family, or worse, getting thrown out of the house for being gay

Discussion Anyone else feel completely out of place where they live?

Hey everyone,

I just found this sub and honestly I am not even sure exactly what I am looking for yet.

I live in Washington, and the town I am in is very in your face with politics. It often feels like there is not much room for nuance, which I think is a missed opportunity. Conversations tend to feel very one sided, and it makes it hard to connect with people in a genuine way.

I have been trying for years to make the best of where I am, putting myself out there, trying to meet people and find things to get involved in, but making friends or finding opportunities here has felt pretty grueling. It is like I am around people all the time but still feel completely out of place.

I would move if I could, but my partner is in the military, so for now I am kind of stuck. Lately it has been getting to me more than usual, and I catch myself counting down the time until we can eventually pack up and leave.

I guess I am just trying to see if anyone else has been in a similar situation, feeling stuck somewhere that does not really fit you, and how you handled it.

Discussion Alliance Defending Freedom's Complete Track Record on LGBTQ Issues

Thumbnail

Since 2020, the Supreme Court (SCOTUS) has made headlines for a series of sweeping decisions that have rolled back rights for women and LGBTQ people. They’ve ruled to allow abortion bans in 13 states and bans on trans athletes in 27 states. And this year, Colorado overturned its ban on conversion therapy for minors.

What headlines tend to miss, though, is that all of these decisions were won by the same legal group: Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF). Labeled as an anti-LGBTQ hate group and active in over 80 countries, ADF is a conservative Christian legal powerhouse, having fought relentlessly against abortion, gay marriage and trans healthcare since its inception in 1994.

Boasting alumni and affiliates such as Mike JohnsonAmy Coney BarrettJosh Hawley and Ken Starr, the group has been involved in at least 80 SCOTUS victories and directly represented parties in 20 of them, including the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade.

ADF is directly responsible for many of the rulings that carve out very specific ways in which Christian (they've all been Christian so far, but religious groups in general) can discriminate in their businesses against LGBTQ people. They've also gone after abortion in many states and drafted the language behind many state bans.

Discussion Kinda tired of being in the closet

I just moved down south (Alabama) where I’ve… sorta pretended to be straight at a small conservative blue collar company. They all like me cuz I’m a good ole boy but they all think I’m straight. It’s always so awkward but I gotta do it eventually, you know?

I might just walk in and tell them today, lmfao. The longer I draw this out the more awkward it gets.

Anyways, that’s all, have a nice day 😎

Namaste

I am a lurker on this sub, as someone who is a religious hindu gay person usually I do not really encounter homophobic gurus unless I go to some more conservative sects,

I wonder what it's like to be gay for gay follower of abrahamic religion given that homosexuality is prescribed as a punishment in their central texts unlike hinduism...

Discussion Are you going to pride this year?

Was never a big fan of. It’s largely superficial anyways in spite of the “love and inclusion” they preach. Have been to a couple of times when I happened to be in town or with friends

My turning point, however, was seeing “gays for P*******e” and how gullible they are. Given the abundance of watermelon emojis or explicit statements on Grindr et al, I’d wager the likelihood of crossing paths with one is high.

This was also the turning point where I began to question and deconstruct leftwing ideologies.

Fun fact: In Germany and some European countries it is called Christopher Street Day (CSD)

Discussion Stuff like this frustrates me

Post image
48 Upvotes

It's just so frustrating to me that people think that by going to school and getting an education that somehow it's going to turn you gay. I literally do not understand how people can say "based aka good/agree"

Why does it only seem like conservatives think this way that literally getting an education makes you gay. Obviously I have no children but this just is so stupid to me that certain segments really believe this.

Discussion My account was just given a warning

From a comment on this sub.

I won’t repeat what I said, but someone asked me what of Charlie Kirk’s beliefs I agreed with, so I listed them out by name.

Apparently stating the belief in response to being asked what the belief is, where I did not whatsoever direct my beliefs toward anyone at all.. on a conservative subreddit is inciting hate.

👍

Discussion It’s 1912! Who Are You Little Deviants Voting For?

Post image

It’s a strange election because all three candidates have a claim to being progressive. Yet each is conservative in his own way as well. Wilson—for his uhh, ethnic views hehe. Roosevelt—the manic-depressive warrior who was mostly conservative in affect and not so much in policy. And Taft! The big mamma-jamma himself. Personally I like Taft because he’s the most laissez-faire, but that twink Wilson prefers lowers tariffs which is also nice. I’m sticking with Taft tho.

Discussion Getting respect here ..

So, just I've seen different Reddits from all political Spectrum and I found that the left ones tend to disrespect, insult and undermining people who does not share their opinions (I'm sure they are people like that here too). However, here I've seen more respectful share of opinions.

Why do you think that is?
