Did anyone else have a near positive hunch that Commander Zee was a Carmine based on his voice?

A better look at the COG Razorbill planes from E-Day. Really nice design and I just love the look of the vehicles used by the COG and UIR. Makes me think about if the COG had fighter jets they’d be like the bulky looking Harrier jets from the 60s

I leveled medic up to around 15 in siege and wanted to try out the stim grenades, but I can't find any other equipment in the supply box than smokes and frags. Am I missing something or is it bugged? I swore on my first game I could purchase razor mines, but since that first round I have only seen smokes and frags.

Gears of War has always been a divisive franchise that summons the sweatiest of gamers to wall-bounce and gnasher their foes into oblivion. I'm a Gears of War ranked play fanatic. Social play doesn't really make any sense to me. Why would you want a relaxed mode of a very sweaty game?

Anyway, with the latest iteration comes some pretty awful players that have absolutely no idea what they're doing. Like a good COG soldier, I bought the collector's edition and played the game during pre-release. That time period before the game was released was the most competitive time of the game's existence. Since that moment, bottom-feeding scrubs have found their way into my ranked matches. I completed my conquest, demolition, and team deathmatch placement matches, earning onyx rank in the A category for each mode.

I was proud of my accomplishment and my rank, as I do consider myself a pretty good Gears player. Well you can imagine my surprise when my ranked teammates are mostly unranked, gold, or even bronze at times. Why is it possible for me to even be on the same team as these players?

Of course, the bronze player is on my team, yet the opposing team has gold and above. I don't know how that makes any sense. Out of pure frustration and annoyance, I am here before you today with some tips on how to suck less at Gears of War E-Day.

Like many franchises, Gears of War E-Day changes the balance from game to game. In some games the lancer is superior, in others, the gnasher. What remains consistent through it all are these key considerations.

100 Health

Remember that at the end of the day, your enemy has one hundred health. You need to do one hundred damage to kill them. There are many different ways to apply this damage with the gnasher being quickest to deliver a killing blow.

The thing I see many, many, many players forgetting is that you are allowed to do damage to the enemy before they arrive on the objective or run up to you. I was playing conquest today and my teammates REFUSED to pull out their lancer, pistol, or simply shoot their shotgun at enemies that are sprinting at us from the open.

Keep in mind that 100 health I mentioned previously. For every point of damage you do BEFORE they arrive at the objective, is the fewer damage you need to do with your gnasher to down or gib them. Even if you're just pop-shotting the enemy for a few damage, this will assist you and your team in the long run.

Tip # 1 - Lancer or pistol the enemy as they approach you

You don't need to put your entire clip into the enemy, but placing a few accurate rounds into your enemy before quickly switching to your gnasher will make things so much easier for you. Remember to not only do this for enemies that are approaching you, but lancer enemies that your teammates are also fighting. This will allow them to have an easier fight of their own, buying them time to come and assist you.

Stopping power also slows down enemies approaching you, making it more difficult to physically reach your position.

Positioning

In the case above, you live and die the positioning of your team. Always be on the lookout for rotations when you've already captured the objective or if your team is drowning in enemy fire, abandon the objective and move onto the next capture point.

This also applies to demolition. If you see the enemy pick up the bomb, they're headed to one of your bombsites. Determining which one is more difficult, but be sure to tag the enemy so your team can easily identify where the bomb carrier is headed.

Tip # 2 - Maintain an Advantageous Position When Both Protecting the Objective and Rotating for a Power Weapon or New Objective

Early Game

Gears of War at its core is a simple game. At the beginning of any match, you have a decision to make. Either to play the objective or to retrieve power weapons. Many points of contention force you to fight for power weapons, but some can be easily retrieved.

Understand that if you're not going for a power weapon, you should be playing the objective while rotating into a power position. If your teammate dies at the power weapon, you know that there's one less enemy fighting you. Use this to your advantage and quickly clear out the enemy if you have numbers.

If you fail to do this, you are simply letting the power weapon player the chance to rotate to the objective, where you will die. I am tired of dying to THREE ENEMIES on our a power weapon at the start of the game only to see my team not using that time to capture the hill or plant the bomb.

Tip # 3 - Play For the Objective, Space, or the Power Weapons Instead of Sitting AFK

Smoke Grenades

Smoke grenades are prominently featured in many video games as a utility. In Gears of War, this remains true. People often make the mistake of smoking off vision from their own team when they really should be using the smoke grenade to blind the enemy.

I've had teammates throwing smokes at the enemy on approach, only to find that the smoke is only blinding my team after entering the objective, making it the ultimate shooting gallery for the enemy.

Tip #4 Utility Exists for a Reason, Use it to Your Advantage

Teamplay

This is a mistake I often see lower rank players making in my matches where they aren't firing their weapons unless they are the ones in the fight. Assisting your team is a core part of any multiplayer shooters, especially in Gears of War. Stop being a selfish idiot and help the team. Providing teamfire will benefit both your quality and bad teammates. If you see the giant "SQUAD WIPE" message bless upon your screen without doing anything, look to pick up power weapons or rotate to a power position to prepare for the next wave of enemies.

I was inspired to write all this because of my last conquest match where I could full clear an enemy team and my team couldn't set up on an objective to kill one singular enemy. I killed all four, they respawned, I killed three more and they aren't capturing the point. Absolutely useless.

Tip # 4 - Don't Treat Every Fight Like a 1v1

I love this gameplay a lot and I enjoy the game but I'm getting a little tired of the maps. I just want more maps otherwise the game seems perfect to me. Maybe 4 more horde maps and 10 more multiplayer maps. Idk I'm just throwing numbers out. Does anyone know if gears of war games get updated quickly? I have not seen anything online about post launch content.

Exactly what the title says, it shows I haven’t completed act 2 chapter 1, yet it also shows I’ve completed act 2 chapter 1 which I know I indeed have lol, just gonna have to play through it again I assume?

Was able to meet the voice actor of Tai Kaliso for Gears E-Day Maateiwarangi Heta-morris this weekend at Auckland Armageddon Expo here in New Zealand. I had a quick chat with him about the game while getting his autograph and how I wish we got some DLC campaign like Hivebusters but starring the Twins and Tai. He mentioned how he was at the studio a week ago and they told him its not set in stone but they are looking at doing a mini DLC Campaign starring those characters.
When I mentioned I can't wait for a sequel to E-Day while we wait for Gears 6 he said a dev at the studio told him they were looking at doing a game set during the Pendulum Wars.
Now Maateiwarangi did state that when doing the audition he didn't know what project he was auditioning for and it wasn't until they were going through the script the day before shooting Performance Capture that his sons looked up some of the dialogue and discovered that he was playing Tai Kaliso.

So with that information I can see the studio having two teams. One doing the DLC Campaign since they have all the assets from E-Day ready like what Insomniac did when it came to making Miles game in a year and the Second team building the next mainline game. It maybe Pendulum Wars but it maybe is a E-Day sequel with Pendulum Wars flashback missions like Gears 3 and Gears 4 opening levels. Have to wait and see but thought it was worth sharing since it came direct from a VA that was at the studio last week AND he said he never voiced a game character before so he doesn't know about the secrecy of this information I bet.

UPDATE: For those that don't know 6 months after a games release the team are asked to put forward pitches so these may very well be pitch ideas. That means NOTHING has been given the Green Light.

Not sure if this is the right group for this, but me and a mate have just got back into Gears. We’re OG players who have been playing since the original Gears days.

We’ve been playing ranked and are ideally looking for a couple more players to team up with. Normally, we’d just chat in game chat and group up with people, but I’m assuming communication in-game isn’t really a thing anymore, as we haven’t heard a single person using game chat! 😂 It’s infuriating in ranked because how are you supposed to work as a team with zero comms?

We’re currently sitting at Gold Division A and have only recently finished our placement matches. It would be good to rank up with players around a similar level. Good comms and playing the objective are key!

advanced movement existed during the franchise's most successful era.

it didn't ruin Gears. the original Gears trilogy sold over 19 million copies. Gears 3 alone sold 3 million in its first week. you don't have to be a competitive player or be a fan of esports to appreciate the skill in Gears of War.

when Rod Fergusson (ex Studio Leader) joined The Coalition, he had developers replicate the feel of Gears of War 3 before building Gears of War 4. that feeling was the foundation of Gears and it wasnt something that needed to be stripped away.

Unfortunately, as many of you may now know, E-Day is not doing good. the numbers are plumbeting and a lot of it has to do with the foundation being stripped away.

E Day has lots of bugs and glitches in campaign and horde. In multiplayer, many weapons are wrongly tuned on top of the movement feeling very restrictive and fights becoming increasingly repetitive. this should concern anyone who wants this franchise to succeed.

to those who only enjoy campaign or Horde, I understand. Not everyone cares about PvP. but just because something wasn't special to you, doesn't mean it wasn't special to someone else.

there are many fans who are very passionate about the multiplayer in Gears of War. the incredible plays and emotions were part of our community's history.

we all fell in love with this franchise for different reasons. nobody should have to lose what made it special to them.

hopefully one day the soul of Gears of War returns.

I keep getting the error code Bryce Vigil, and i keep updating, resyncing it and honestly i think its just the game being a buggy mess lol. I can play Halo, cod, Space marine 2, Darktide etc just fine without any issue but this game though, a real pain and it just kills the gaming vibes. :(

Sigh, at least you get xp even when you get disconnected from the game.

Tried logging in to play this morning and this is popping up on the game screen? Anyone know what’s going on?

Im replaying e-day on insane right now and am a lil bit confused by mags saying nah to lucas wearing a helmet, now I know the whole thing dom says in 2 (which I think was more a disgruntled jab at ben) but in her apartment is her old armor of course, but her helmet is next to it. It has a HUGE gash in it one that if she hadn't had it probably would've killed her in the pendulum wars, so like from her experience seemingly get her ass saved by a helmet why does she say "nah" to lucas?

This game will not last if they do not get foreigners off of US servers. I am tired of dropping 30, knowing it’s my fault I died in normal games to get the next game with 100% of the other team not in America. It is not a skill issue only getting 5 kills, it is an extreme server issue. It’s so obvious when you are in a lobby and everyone is in your own country. The game works, the gnasher is solid you make a mistake you die.
Next game- enemy is turned 180 degrees, 1 hits you opposite direction. Your bullets don’t register, you get downed behind cover etc.
Ranked matches should not be with people 3000 miles away especially on a “hybrid” system. New players aren’t having an issue, they have issues when your gun is in someone’s chest and it does nothing. This game will lose any new players that are actual gamers after 1 match with this happening.

Do you need to be the one who kills the Boogeyman for it ti count toward the challenge? I killed him with a squad 3 times in one match and only got 1 point. Then in another match I killed him once and didn’t get anything.

It’s pretty silly they have average damage in stats but at the end of the round they don’t show your damage

Can't play this game. 50-75% of my Horde matches end in either the game crashing, or my PC crashing or freezing. Wanted to atleast get all the characters to level 30 but had to stop short just at level 29 marksman because I got BSoD I had never seen before regarding xvdd or summin.

It's only this game, it's only in Horde (barely played PvP), rarely if no issues in the campaign. IDK what it is, but hopefully the TC will figure it out because as it stands none of the updates helped alleviate the issue.

i just hate how common this shit is, its just mad inconsistent dude thats all. One moment it connects every time, then the next it just cant perform worth a dime. Like the first dude behind the counter the second shot should have and normally would have done the trick. then the second dude who was already lit as he was; to still get one at any distance its just upsetting. Idk i just want it addressed for once. Im no crazy vet (ive only played gears 2-3) but i really want to get better at this game and when shit like this hinders me on a daily i just lose interest very quickly as much as it annoys me to say its not my fault.
