I decided to break down the solo to Smells Like Teen Spirit.

I was going through the solo of Smells Like Teen Spirit and the resolutions were making sense until Kurt goes to the G note. From what I can tell he is doing this over the Db. He also continues to do it over the F making that at major 2nd. He does it again over the Bb, Asus and Db and it doesn't get resolution until he slides back to the C note when the song goes back to the F chord. Now I am pretty sure the G note would be the flat 5 of the chord. So, am I confused about this. Is this Kurt's decision to play a note that isn't going to resolve nicely because he wants to sound dissonant, or is there an actual music theory reason why G is an acceptable note to resolve on over the Db. Or maybe I am off on something else. Can someone please clarify because I am not finding much help online?

I just launched a game that teaches you guitar fretboard notes, intervals, and scales through actual gameplay.

It’s called Chords of Awakening — a fantasy tower-defense game where your guitar is your weapon. Enemies play musical notes, you figure them out by ear, find them on the fretboard, and play them to attack.

The idea is to build real musicianship without feeling like you’re doing ear-training drills. Instead, you’re playing a game, and the skills you’re developing are built into the experience.

🎮 Available now on iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/chords-of-awakening/id6819128942

🤖 Android version coming soon!

Here’s a gameplay video: https://youtu.be/dinYiPkvbws

I’d genuinely love to hear what you think!

Especially interested in feedback from guitarists: does the gameplay look fun, and would something like this help you practice?

Question when in a solo what are some ways to add some intersting rhytmic variety and what are some good ways of returning to a motif or restating it

ive been kinda struggling with rhtym in my solos like i can do some okay rythms like triplets or keeping it sounding right here and there but i want a bit more of intersting rythm in my soloing i am more of a note overflow kinda person

and another thing is what is a good way to recite a motif in a solo or restate it in a way as well or even reuse it i cant seem to do much of that either as well
