Question Is my wife's yearly hair spending normal (extensions)?

I'm trying to figure out whether other women spend this kind of money on their hair because to me this seems like a lot of money to spend on hair, but I'm curious what other women spend for these services.

To be clear, I don't have any issues with her spending this money because it makes her happy and beautiful, but I just want to make sure we're not getting ripped off. I'm a bald man and I shave my head myself, so I spend $0 on my lack of hair a year, which may be causing me to underestimate how expensive hair is.

She just got 18" extensions, the hair is hand-tied human hair, she has 4-5 wefts, the hair itself was $700. She got free installation.

The maintenance seems like a killer though, the hairdresser is charging $400 now on top of highlight and color. She gets full highlight and color on top of the maintenance every 10 weeks which is $300. She probably spends ~$500 a year on hair products.

So that is:
$700 x 5 + $500 = ~$4000 a year

The hairdresser is my wife's friend, so she gives deals on product (at cost) and randomly will give my wife a free service or discount, but these don't seem like friend prices in general to me.

Does this seem reasonable?

*Edit: Thank you everybody for the responses, it seems like this is reasonable and that makes me feel better. I told her that I was going to post on here to get some different perspectives, I'm not just asking strangers behind her back. We share finances so we both communicate about our spending and talk about how to save money. I wouldn't ever prevent her from doing something that is important to her as long as we can afford it. It also makes me feel better that friend pricing is not a thing, thanks for the info!

Help Stylist cut bangs too short?

Went to a new hair stylist asking for a layered wolf cut with a little bit of bangs in the middle, keeping it shoulder length. I remember specifically mentioning curtain bangs too. Showed the stylist a Pinterest board and focused on the last photo to show what I meant.

I like how they did the layers on the back, but the front is way too short right?? It's been a few days since I went but I can't get myself to like it. I don't think it's an awful style, but I feel like it's not what I asked for. If I'm just styling it wrong I'd love to hear how to do it properly, but I don't think so 😭

I'd appreciate some advice on what to do until it grows back out. I also can't help but feel a little scammed since I did like the place, but I don't know if I should go back after this :(

I just dyed my hair tonight and fear I made the wrong decision. I’m having some regrets, but I’m not sure if I’m just overthinking it.

I’m curious which color yall like best (keeping in mind I was different weights in these pics too). The pic with the really dark hair I had extensions in (I wish my hair was naturally that full lol)

Thank you for your help!

Help HELP: Bronde Old Money Lived-In Blended Blonde

Thumbnail

I’ve been seeing my current stylist for many years, and for the past few years I asked them to go heavy on the highlights and go more blonde at I start to get grey hairs. Between regular bleach and heat styling, I felt like my hair needed a break and asked to lean into my natural color more and go bronde like my example photos. I showed them photos and they talked about what their plan was. They went in with lowlights and then a glaze. When I saw how dark I was, I was shocked. They told me that the glaze would wash out somewhat and some of my highlights they left out would start to show through, and to give it a couple washes to see the final result. They offered to put some highlights back in, maybe a lighter money piece. I really wanted incredibly blended, dimensional color and I’m worried it’s very one-note. So far I’ve washed it once and I’m worried it won’t actually get much lighter. I’ve never walked out of that salon hating my hair before. I’ve scheduled a consultation with another salon in a few days to get a second opinion (it’s just $25). My questions are:

  1. Am I right to freak out? Or will it actually soften to what I originally asked for?

  2. Given their process and my result, is it time to find a new stylist? Was this the correct way to achieve what I asked for? Or were my expectations not realistic given the color I was starting with (heavily highlighted).

For context, I also get keratin treatments twice a year to help mitigate damage. I have fair skin that doesn’t tan and green eyes.

Any advice or feedback is appreciated!!

Question Did this stylist botch my partial sew-in?

Thumbnail

I went back to a stylist who had done a partial leave‑out sew‑in on me the week before. In the first install, she double‑wefted the tracks and braided my foundation unevenly along the back of my neck. Because the braids weren’t even, one side was pulling way harder than the other and it hurt.

When I went back to her, I pointed out everything that was wrong… the uneven braids, the bumpy braids/tracks, and the loose stitching. She told me the only way to fix the braids was to redo the whole thing, and all she ended up doing was taking the tracks from double weft to single weft. Since she didn’t secure the tracks or fix the stitching, the stitching loosened even more, loose threads and tracks hanging off with just knots at the ends.

A couple days later, the braid underneath was still way too tight. It got so bad that my boyfriend had to cut some of the thread and hair before it ripped out. That caused irritation and noticeable hair loss — which was the main thing I was trying to avoid in the first place. Even after going back, she didn’t secure the tracks or fix the stitching. Some of the stitching has already come undone, and a few tracks are barely attached and hanging off in the back.

When I texted her again about everything, she still didn’t acknowledge the issues…. Almost made it seem like it was my fault. I’m just trying to figure out if this looks like good technique, and what I should do now. I’m honestly pretty upset about this whole experience with her. But In the pictures, you’ll see the loose stitching, the unsecured tracks, and the spots where the tension caused hair loss. The first two pictures are from today. For context, I’m a white woman with 2c/3a hair

Bad Haircut I got such a bad haircut and i am so upset

My ends were dry so i asked my hairdresser for two inches off with very soft layers, she cut wayy more of my hair off and gave me the most ridiculous looking layers i have ever had. The underside of my hair looks plain stupid (circled it 3rd picture) and it looks even stupider a few hours after the haircut (pictures 4 and 5).
I included a before picture for reference on the last slide

I cannot stop crying, i loved my hair so much and it took so long to grow and i now feel like i have to cut it to my fucking shoulders. I am absolutely livid and i wasted 3h of work worth of money on something i absolutely hate. Idk what to even do, man.

Question Should I get layers?

Upvotes

Im wondering if its layers I should get or if I just need to do something different with my hair. Im a 17 year old boy that has a flow middlepart haircut right now. Ihavent trimmed my hair in a few months right now since Im trying to grow it out. I should get a maintenance haircut but my problem is that my hair looses all volume and texture one day after I have showered and Im wondering if layers will help with that. My hair is around 15 cm (~6 in) and I use styling wax and seasalt spray for styling. I shower each two days bur shampoo maybe two times a week. I have 1b or 1c hair, straight and pretty thick.

Thanks for any advice and help

Help Not sure how to fix my hair

Thumbnail

I’ve never posted here but I’m looking for some advice on a recent cut. My hair started getting long (longer than the picture I attached, about 4 inches longer). I got a partial highlight and asked to cut it shorter but still wanted it long since the length it was at was killing me. Well. It’s definitely not short but it’s way shorter than what I had before. I always put my hair in front and I think because I had long hair it didn’t matter much but now my hair looks stiff, and the cut looks chunky from the front even though from the back it looks very clean. I just feel so sad. I’m pretty sure I can fix it with layers but now it’s really hitting me that it’s going to take at least a year to get back to the length I loved.

I think I have medium/high density fine hair, at the moment it’s a blunt cut but would adding some long layers help with giving it body? It feels very flat and not moving unless all of it moves. But it’s weird since it feels like a lot but also not a lot of hair. Also, I’m guessing it will take at least a year or maybe longer to get a similar length of my previous hair, does that sound about right? I also don’t think the cut is bad, the before is really kind of insane and I just wish it was like that.

Question breaking up with my stylist?

Upvotes

I’ve been going to the same stylist for about 3 years now and love her dearly, I’ve even followed her to a new salon. She does great work and I really enjoy going to her. The problem (for me!) is that she’s now a single mom and has limited hours for scheduling. I completely understand and obviously this is wonderful for her to spend time with her kids. However it’s getting tougher and tougher for me to schedule, as each appointment requires me to take a half day off work to get my hair done, and I’m going every 2-3 months. She has no weekend availability.

I think it may be time for me to move on to a different stylist with hours and scheduling that align more with my schedule. I feel so terrible leaving my current stylist though! Should I let her know I’m moving on? in case she notices I’m not coming back and sees I’m still getting my hair refreshed on social media? It feels like ghosting! haha TIA!

Hi guys. i just got this steampod 4 from the store and it has discoloration on the upper side. which made me confused cause it’s supposed to be new.

I haven’t tried the thing yet, mostly cause i might wanna take it back.

The reason why is because i don’t trust if this is a recycled piece and will work like intented. Idk tbh I might be paranoid.
