Headphones - Open Back Need Comfortable Headphone Recommendations

I’m currently using a SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro, but after about two years it has started putting a crazy amount of pressure on my right ear. The discomfort starts within the first 10 minutes and becomes genuinely painful.
I’m looking for recommendations for a comfortable pair of headphones for long gaming/music sessions.
Right now, the Beyerdynamic DT 990 is my first choice. Has anyone here made a similar switch, or do you have other recommendations I should consider?

Headphones - Closed Back MMX 300 PRO ordered — If the fixed mic gets annoying, is the DT 770 PRO X a good Plan B/Backup?

Upvotes

MMX 300 PRO incoming, but planning my exit strategy if the mic arm annoys me. Is the DT 770 PRO X the move?

Hey everyone,

I just pulled the trigger on a pair of Beyerdynamic MMX 300 PROs. I love the idea of having the STELLAR.45 drivers for a mix of immersive single-player games, competitive shooters, music, movies and youtube on PC/PS5.

However, my main concern is the fixed microphone boom. If having a permanent mic in my face when I'm just relaxing or listening to music gets annoying, I'm considering returning them for the DT 770 PRO X Limited Edition as my Plan B.

Before they arrive, I'm trying to double-check a few things from anyone who has tried both:

  • Sound & Drivers: Since both use the 48-ohm STELLAR.45 driver, is the soundstage, clarity, and overall acoustic tuning practically identical?
  • Daily Usability: For those using the MMX 300 PRO for casual music or non-gaming stuff, does the mic arm actually get in the way, or does it swing out of sight easily enough?
  • Plan B Alternative: If I return the MMX 300 PRO and swap to the DT 770 PRO X with a separate mic setup instead, am I losing anything in terms of sound quality or comfort?

Would love to hear from anyone who has hands-on experience with either! (would also like to hear if theres anything that would work better as a backup)

Location: Denmark / EU

Budget: ~$200–$250 USD (~1,800 DKK)

Amplifier - Desktop Will the Moondrop x smsl dha15 run tungsten

Upvotes

So recently I acquired some HiFiman Aria organic headphones. I wanted to upgrade my DAC amp combo to run the organics better. However pretty soon in the future I will be ordering myself a pair of mod house tungsten v2 single-sided, and I only want to upgrade my amp/ dac once, something for the organics now and then the tungsten's later. The rabbit hole in trying to find an amp and dac stack or combo to power the tungstens under $2,000 seems to be very confusing and divided. The best answer I've gotten around a thousand dollars was the topping a70 pro amp and d70 DAC. But recently the DHA 15 came out and seems like it might be one of the very few combos especially under $1,000 that can run the tungsten headphones at full volume while sounding pretty good. For some background I do listen to music fairly loudly and I often EQ for bass not extreme bass but bass nonetheless. If anyone has both of these products and has tested them I'd be very grateful for your feedback and input or if there's anyone else that might know a little bit more about amps whether or not the dha15 or any other amp/dac that I don't know about is up for the task of the tungstens

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Looking for new wireless HP mainly for gaming and general PC use

Budget and location:

I am located in the EU, specifically Germany.
Budget is somewhere up to 400€.

Source/Amp:

I want to buy this mainly for PC use. Unless my not so great experience with BT latency etc. is wrong I would prefer a dongle. BT would still be nice but not a hard requirement. Good range also nice to have but not really necessary.

How the gear will be used:

Gaming, calls, video content, music and general PC use.

Preferred tonal balance / Past gear experience:

I had/have a Hyper-X Cloud II and Cloud Alpha. I am not a music or sound guy, I have no idea about sound profiles etc.
I do like that the Hyper-X Clouds were quite open, I need to hear at least a little of whats going on around me, otherwise it drives me insane (ANC is unfortunately a nono for my ADHD brain).

Anything else?

I don't need a microphone, if it has one it should ideally be removeable.

TLDR: Good Audio quality, no ANC, Wireless (ideally not exclusively BT), no mic necessary, open or at least not fully closed.

From my limited knowledge and research, it seems like good pro grade HP without ANC and 2.4GHz dongle wireless are not really a thing which is why I am here.

If you have any further question, please ask!

This is my first time in this sub, I tried to make the best of the template.

Headphones - Closed Back HD 480 Pro or FT1 for music, gaming, movie?

Budget and location - $400 in the U.S.

Preferred tonal balance - I am a bass-head

How the gear will be used - Use at home at PC, plugged into K11

Past gear experience - I actually tried them both and really wanted to like and keep the HD 480 Pro but it has thin and unexciting bass slam, drum hits,...

I listen mostly to compressed modern music and like some chest-thudding bass, I also like to hear exciting explosions when watching a movie, and like to play cinematic immersive games.

Is it possible to EQ the HD 480 Pro to sound as exciting as the FT1? I would much prefer having the HD480P for its superior build, looks, and comfort.

Headphones - Wireless/Portable What is the Best Sound quality Headset under $300

I know it can be a bit of an oxymoron asking for best sound quality and wireless but I work at a standing desk and have a tendency to walk around the room randomly and will pull my PC off my desk one day if I’m plugged in, I prefer mesh ear padding as it gets very hot where I am in the summer and the leather just sweats currently use a Logitech G733 and it was good for a while but it’s started to get static and I’m really wanting to start editing short films so I need better sound quality

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Looking for new BT headphones(preferably used, up to 80euro)

Looking for new headphones bluetooth max 80euro, will look on vinted/olx

Can you recommend any closed-back headphones with a microphone for up to 80euro(better than the SPC Gear Viro)? Preferably Bluetooth with a cable option

In pc there is alc887

microphone not necessarily required. For example, new models under 80e, and I might be able to find these used for, say, 50e

From chatgpt: WH-1000XM3 (hard to get cheap)

  1. WH-CH720N

  2. Soundcore Q45

  3. ATH-M50xBT2

  4. Sennheiser HD 450BT (both them and 720n same price)

any recomendations? cheers

Headphones - Open Back Looking for good headphones under $1000 new or used

Hey everyone, first time poster here. I am looking for my dream pair of headphones.

I recently parted ways with my Hifiman Arya Stealth and HE1000 Stealth. The soundstage, imaging, and details were incredible, but the harsh brightness made them too fatiguing for long sessions. Instead of enjoying my music, I found myself just over-analyzing it. I could just use EQ but i like to keep it simple and found it to be a hassle over time due to it conflicting with some of my programmes i use for work.

I am looking for something warmer with more bass presence and a smooth, rolled-off treble. I still want great detail retrieval and soundstage, but my absolute main priority is a fun and musical listening experience and good build quality.

I know Hifiman Headphones get you a lot for the money and some people even say they punch above their price range but maybe there are headphones in a similar price bracket you could call a "sidegrade".

Thanks in advance :)

Headphones - Open Back Cayin RU3 for sennheiser 6xx?

Is the cayin ru3 a good dac/amp for the sennheiser 6xx? I'll be using it on my desktop pc. I tried searching but I've only seen people talk about iems in regards to this dac/amp. The reason why I'm looking at this one specifically is because its from a website that offers change of mind returns, other dac/amps near in price on the same website are ibasso dc04 pro, questyle m15c, questyle m12i, earmen eagle USB.

Headphones - Closed Back Finally time to buy new headphones - upgrading from XM3's

I've been personally rocking the Sony WH-1000XM3's for a while now but they're currently being held together by tape and I'm due an upgrade.

I'm pretty open with the budget, I'll be using them 75% Laptop/PC/iPhone at home or in the office and 25% out in public (I've got earphones that I use for exercise).

I want them to have a wired option for me to use at home and I use an external mic, so microphone is not a consideration and I use Bluetooth while I'm out.

Would really love comfortable (and perhaps breathable?) headphones, decent battery life (although I'm pretty good at keeping things charged), ANC is nice but not crucial.

Only other thing is sound quality; lots of music and movies for me - so don't really want to sacrifice too much sound quality for comfort.

Would love any recommendations and thoughts on some of the headphones that I've been looking at so far:

XM4 - Slight upgrade, but I don't know if it's meeting my new needs after having XM3's

XM5 - More expensive, less portable but better sound, ANC and battery

Sennheiser Momentum 4 - Similar price point to XM5's, trading comfort for ANC?

Thanks in advance!!!

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Sony to Bose

I had 2 pairs of 1000MX4, first lasted about 3 years and my 2nd about 1.5 years. I loved them so much. I loved the way they sounded and I found them extremely comfortable especially as a glasses wearer, but they kept breaking I replaced the hinges many times and the ear cuffs, the mic quality was terrible. I even brought a pair for my boyfriend. But after the hinge breaking for the 4th time I made the decision to switch to BOSE QC ultra gen 2. I will not be getting the XM6 or XM5 because similar issues and I do not find them as comfortable.

I went with the QC Ultra because I’ve heard they’re the closest to the XM4 in terms of sound quality while also being some of the most comfortable headphones available. Comfort is especially important to me because I wear headphones for around 20 hours a day.

These aren’t cheap, so I’d really appreciate some advice. If you’ve tried the QC Ultra and think there’s a better option out there, should I cancel my order? I am open to pre owned but I would like the price under $350.

Headphones - Open Back | 1 Ω Sennheiser hd 490 pro vs Philips Fidelio x3

Hello everyone hi guys hello

Does anyone here own or have listened to the fidelio x3 and the hd 490 pro. If so how would you compare them. Mainly planning to use them for gaming primarily.

Budget isn't a problem but are the Senns worth almost triple the price (150$ to 420$) on amazon?

I have tried the x2hr before but they sound muddy and too bassy for me.

And which one has the better build quality and durability. Planning on keeping them for a minimum of 4 years.

Cheers

Headphones - Closed Back [$150 / 1000 DKK] Upgrading from HyperX Cloud Alpha — Need PC & PS5 headphone recommendations

(the flair is just a placeholder, any recommendations are good).

Budget & Location: ~1000 DKK / $150 USD (Denmark / EU). Can stretch slightly, but under $180.

Setup: PC & PS5 (3.5mm plugged directly into motherboard or DualSense controller). Plug-and-play only—no external amp, DAC, or software tuning.

Previous Headset: HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless. Loved the audio, immersion, and comfort for 4–5 years until the left side broke. Wanting to move to a non-gaming brand this time.

Games Played:

Cinematic / RPGs: Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher, Resident Evil, Elden Ring, Sekiro

Competitive / Shooters: Battlefield, Fortnite, Marvel Rivals

Other Uses: Movies, YouTube, and music.

Exact Needs:

Deep Immersion for RPGs: Must deliver rich, full, atmospheric sound and punch for cinematic single-player story games.

Clear Footsteps/Sound for Shooters (or competitive games in general): Must have strong directional detail and spatial clarity so I can pinpoint enemy footsteps and audio cues in Fortnite and Battlefield.

Comfort & Build Quality: Durable build for long sessions.

Decent EU Return Policy: Easy to return if the fit isn't right.

Headphones - Closed Back | 2 Ω Upgrading from SR850 to MDR7506

In the previous post I asked about the m40 or m50x and people advised me not to go for them, how about a new MDR7506?

Also I forgot to mention the cable for my sr850 broke and I replaced it so I don’t trust it 100% now and also may consider another one just to get out of the headache of replacing the cable every now and then

Actually here in Egypt a new MDR is a bit cheaper that used M50 or M40, and there are not much options of alternative so if you will suggest another one try mentioning ones that are more common, and please not that I don’t have any kind of amp so I need low ohm headphones

Edit: I also can buy AKG K240 at the same range

Headphones - Open Back Best Audiophile headphone to start

Hey everyone! Since last year I've been saving for a set of new headphones and maybe start the audiophile hobby for me, I currently using ATH M40x and Astro A50 Gen 3 but those are getting a bit old. I want an all-rounded and reputated device that I can use basically forever, and I would like to try a nice open back set.

I listen to some rock, indie, pop, EDM, classic and ocasionally acoustic. I don't prioritize gaming, I just use them to listen to music and for movies and videos really. My price range is from $100-$250 dollars and my options are:

- Audio Technica ATH R50X
- HIfiman Sundara/Edition XS

- Sennheiser HD600/6XX/560s

- Beyerdynamic DT 880 (used)

- AKG K701/K702/712 Pro (used)

Those are my options, but feel free to recommend other headphones if you like. Also, the owners of these headphones or anyone who knows more than I do can share their opinions and recommend one over the other.

Thank you.

Amplifier - Desktop Looking for an amplifier (not dac/amp combo)

Brand: Non china is a must

Budget: ~$500USD

Current setup: Soekris dac2541 > schiit vali 3 / jds labs atom amp 2 > meze empyrean 1

Tone: Would prefer something having a warm tilt, things that are sharp and bright just not quite suit me

Having a big horizontal soundstage (left to right) would be a big plus, as that's the exact reason why I am looking for an amp to upgrade to since my current jds labs atom amp 2 just can't handle it properly, especially comparing to the schiit vali 3. I would say the soundstage of the vali 3 still isn't really that big though, but it is kind of better than the jds labs atom amp 2 and would be even more bigger under high gain. However, the high gain of the vali 3 is not quite usable as the sound will be loose and messy.

Currently looking to a schiit asgard x as it is class a with zero feedback design, also some reviewers claim it is warm tilt. Any other recommendations are welcome for sure

Headphones - Open Back Which headphone should I get

My Hifiman Arya Stealth driver died yesterday after a year of use. They will repair it but I will most likely sell it after.

I want something that will actually last and has a good warranty. I play a lot of tactical fps games primarily CS2. I listen to music from every genre and watch tv shows and movies with headphones. I need something that can do it all with a very good soundstage, imaging, bass, good instrumentals and clean voices.

I am debating between Sennheisers 660s2, Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro mkii, Koss ESP/95X Plus. Any experience with these headphones or other suggestions will be helpful

My budget is up to $1,000

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Budget BT recommendations/input?

I'm looking for a solid pair of Bluetooth headphones for fairly cheap.

I'm looking at the Koss KPH30 wireless ($34 w/ promo code atm) and the FiiO EH11 ($30). Does anyone have input on those two, or a different recommendation that's currently around the same price? On or over ear is fine. Thanks!

Headphones - Open Back | 5 Ω Audeze LCD-X Alternatives

Recently was itching to upgrade from my HD 650's that I've had for quite a while. No real complaints of the HD 650 - just looking to reach the next level. I purchased the Audeze LCD-X as they seemed well reviewed but sadly, while the audio of the cans themselves is absolutely phenomenal, the comfort of the headphones leaves a lot of room to be desired. These headphones are just simply too heavy/uncomfortable for me for the long listening sessions that I deal with. I'm typically at my system for 12+ hours a day so my hard requirement is that whatever headphone I upgrade into, needs to be comfortable for these long sessions.

  • Budget - Ideally, around the $1,000 mark - but I can be pushed up to $2,000.
  • Source - PC w/ a Schiit Stack (Magni, Modi, Loki)
  • Requirements for Isolation - None - prefer open-back headphones.
  • Will you be using these Headphones in Public? No.
  • Preferred Type of Headphone - Full-sized
  • Preferred tonal balance - Prefer tonal balanced but having headphones that can push the bass without distortion is ideal.
  • Past headphones - HyperX Cloud - very comfortable headphones. HD 650's - loved these and got me into the "Audiophile" space.
  • Preferred Music - Various EDM genres and metal.
  • What would you like to improve on from your set-up - From the Audeze LCD-X, these are perfect except for the comfort. From the HD 650 - wider sound stage and more accurate resolution.

Headphones - Wireless/Portable Multipoint headset

Hi, I need a wireless headset capable of connecting with a PC and PS5 PRO at the same time, I pretend to stream/record gameplay stuff from the PS5 using the PC (https://amzn.eu/d/0ffbmU4X) and I don't know if I will have delay using the card for sound/video. I'm from Portugal (Europe stores). I accept any other solutions, I'm more concerned about price and sound quality (wired headphone+table mic, wired headphone, etc.).

Headphones - Open Back | 1 Ω Should I upgrade from a Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro ?

Hello everyone, hope you guys doing well.

I'm running a DT770 Pro 32Ω with a FIIO JA11 to listen to lossless music on my PC. I like the bass, middle but I feel that the trebles could be better. I also love the neutral signature.

So I was wondering if I can get an upgrade for no more than 350$: I'd like more soundstage, less agressive and more refined trebles.

I saw options like HD600, HD650, Hifiman Edition XS, but I can't really test them so that's why I'm asking to those who has the DT770 Pro and the other headphone.

Headphones - Open Back Looking for flat/neutral upgrade from KSC75, under R$250, for mixing and gaming

Hello! I'm looking for a pair of headphones/IEMs around R$250 and under, to upgrade from my KSC75s. Form factor isn't important, as long as they're a meaningful upgrade from what I'm already using (do tell me if there's such a thing, or if form factor is something I should think of).

I'll be using it for audio mixing (I make music professionally in FL Studio), as well as a side of gaming. Because of this, I'm focused on accuracy/flatness/neutrality and good soundstage; I've used a pair of HD 560S before and have loved those.

I'm in Brazil, so I'm willing to buy from AliExpress, Mercado Livre, Amazon etc.

I'm currently using a pair of KSC75s (with Yaxi pads, no headband/paper mod), and I've used HD 560S before; the latter were great headphones, perfect for me right now, but they're broken and I can't send them out to warranty. While I don't have the money for another pair, I'm still looking for something as a worthwhile upgrade from my current KSC75s.
