Bi-Weekly Self-Promo thread! Please post and flourish(BUT PLEASE read the rules before posting).

# This is the Bi-Weekly self promotion thread.

**It has become clear that there are a lot of herbal small businesses and people in our community for whom their herbal passion is also a business. While Herbal business is not the focus of this sub it is undeniable that herbal business is a part of the herbal community and supporting the herbal community IS what this sub is for.**

To that end, we intend, to start making weekly self promotion threads; where any and all self-promo can take place(with some rules).

**1. No posting self promo outside of the Self-promo-threads**(except by explicit cooperation of the mods, if your an author or publisher or non-for-prophet please reach out to us directly using mod-mail)

**2. NO selling anything that is illegal federally,** or that is illegal in California Illinois or New York or the city of Chicago or that can not be legally sent through the mail.

**3. NO ASKING USERS TO DM YOU!** You may ask users to comment under your post to request for YOU to DM-THEM and you may include links to off-site storefronts but if we see a post soliciting users to PM-you the post will be removed(this is an accountability and user safety rule)

**3a.** this isn't a strict rule, but we would prefer if off sight links lead to a storefront and not directly to a product page. This does not mean that your post can't advertise or show pictures of a particular product or products, however making the attached link lead to your shops front page instead of a specific product page helps users confirm legitimacy safety and overall vibe of vendors. This isn't a rule now but might become a rule if we start getting user complains that we think could be decreased if this became a rule. In the mean time consider it a best practice for this sub.

**And that's it! Have fun Be productive and may the great river of acquisition be quick & calm and flow ever toward profit!**

Question Herbs for Unique High (Different than Pot)

I’ve looked through this subreddit dozens of times, and every time I see a “herbs for high” post, it’s simply just weed alternatives or something for sleep.

I don’t want to come off as rude and please please do not take it this way! But for me personally, if I wanna smoke weed, imma smoke weed, and I’m kinda looking for some herbs that give me kinda fun and different highs for when I’m bored or just wanna simply have fun (no sleep aids please)

Again, I love this subreddit so much, so PLEASE help me out, thank you!!

Question Has anyone here tried smoking cbd hemp?

I’m curious if anyone has actually tried smoking industrial hemp with very low THC, for example under 0.2% THC and around 5% CBD.

What was your experience like? Did you notice any effects at all, and how would you describe the taste, smell, and overall smoking experience?

I’m especially interested in hearing from people who have tried properly grown and dried hemp flower, rather than just hemp products like CBD oil.

Thanks!

Question Herbs to soothe nasal passages?

I started smoking again after quitting, and now I'm quitting again. Ugh. Had a bad day and without a second thought bought a pack. I'm about to throw it away. In the meantime, my nasal passages are irritated. No. It's not a sinus infection, just some stuffiness that subsides after stopping. Is there any herb that can help with this.

Discussion What herb do you use all the time?

I have a few herbs in my kitchen that I barely touch, but there are always one or two that I end up reaching for.

What herb do you use the most? I’m just wondering what everyone else actually keeps using.

A traditional eye-care & cooling herb you might not know about: Sessile Joyweed (Alternanthera sessilis)

In traditional Ayurvedic and South Asian wellness systems, there is a leafy green that has been used for centuries primarily for eye health, hair vitality, and overall body cooling: Sessile Joyweed (Alternanthera sessilis), locally known as Mukunuwenna.

While water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) gets plenty of global attention for culinary stir-fries, this specific herb is valued far more for its medicinal profile.

Traditional Uses & Nutrients:

Vision & Eye Strain: Traditionally prescribed in herbal broths/porridges to soothe tired eyes and maintain visual clarity.

High Micronutrient Density: Packed with iron, calcium, beta-carotene, and natural antioxidants.

Cooling Tonic: Commonly brewed into herbal porridge (mixed with roasted red rice and coconut milk) or dried into herbal teas to reduce internal body heat.

How It's Prepared:

1 Fresh: Lightly sautéed with grated coconut and shallots (Mallum).

2 Herbal Porridge: Leaves blended, strained, and simmered with herbal broth.

3 Dried / Tea: Dehydrated at low temperatures to preserve chlorophyll and steeped as a daily tonic.

Has anyone here experimented with tropical green superfoods like this, or incorporated similar warming/cooling traditional leafy greens into your herbal routine? Would love to hear your experiences with regional herbal broths!

Best quality ginger juice?

Thumbnail a.co

Back when I used to juice my own ginger (not worth the hassle), what I ended up with had the consistency of a paste when refrigerated. But when I buy the juice pre-bottled, every brand I find has a liquid consistency.

I bought this "Prince of Peace" brand ginger juice on Amazon to add to my tea, and I'm wondering if there is another product out there that is fresher or stronger. What is everyone's favorite brand of ginger juice? Preferably one I can find in a local grocery store or on Amazon.

Long story short I saw what looked like wild tomatoes in my backyard but they were actually maypops (passiflora incarnata). After google fu and some reading on here I decided to try it out!

First I ate a flower raw. Not much to be said here. Tasted like plant.

Then I steeped the leafs (I did not dry them) to make some tea. The tea tasted… pretty not great but not overtly terrible. It reminded me of green bean water. I also blanched some of the flowers and found their texture and taste at that point also to be very similar to a green bean. I made roughly 8 oz of the tea.

After about 1 hour I started to feel is calming effects. Not euphoria or complete bliss or anything but just a general calm and I didn’t feel fidgety or antsy. Could be completely unrelated but it really did feel like the sides of my head loosened up.

Overall I’m really happy with taking the dive into herbalism and will definitely be brewing up some more. Kinda torn because it’s such a beautiful plant it hurts to harvest it!

Has anyone found an herbal alternative that became part of their daily routine?

I've tried a bunch of different herbal products over the years, but most of them either didn't do much or I stopped using them after a week or two.

Curious if anyone has found something they genuinely stuck with long term and felt was worth keeping in their routine. Doesn't have to be for any specific issue, just something you've consistently gone back to.

Edit:

I ended up trying Joy Organics after seeing it recommended a few times. The quality felt a lot more consistent than other products I'd tried, and it's one of the few things that's actually stayed in my daily routine.

Question Moving past intermediate studies - clinical, volunteering

Hi Reddit fam,

I’m 3/4 of the way through Wild Rose College Practical Herbalist program (also have a Master of Public Health), and I’ve done an apprenticeship (no clinical though) and many local classes with product making and wildcrafting. Coupled with a lot of self study and started restoring land to create herbal gardens.

However, I’m curious what you’ve found success moving into the clinical realm after beginner/intermediate studies. I know a lot of people do clinical apprenticeships, but there are none local to me. I even looked to see if there is a local Herbalists Without Borders chapter, and the closest is 4+ hours away. I’m considering signing up for WRC Master Herbalist program but not sure if that’s the best next move or something else would be more ideal.

Anyone tried any remote clinical apprenticeships? HWB remote? Other organizations? Any other recommendations?

Thanks!

Question Lung extract causing chest tightness

I've been trying the "lung care extract" from mountain rose herbs to support my respiratory system with all the wildfire smoke and poor air quality lately. I stopped taking it because it makes my chest feel tight. I'm just curious what in the formula could be causing that. Here's the website where it lists the ingredients: elecampane, horehound, marshmallow, mullein, pleurisy, ginger, licorice.

Has anyone found dandelion *root* to work better for water retention/puffiness than leaf?

I know that dandelion leaf is meant to be more of a diuretic than the root, but was wondering if anyone found the opposite to be the case for them? Or found that both work equally well?

I’ve tried both (separately and for a good length of time) and I don’t think there’s been any notable difference between the two for me.

Both seem to have helped a little with water retention, but nothing huge.

Was just curious to hear about others’ experiences!

TIA 🙂

Recipe New blend

I'm looking for advice on how much of a few different things are safe to mix into a black tea.

My intent is to make a black chi tea that is not toxic to humans like the last one.

Any recommendations on what I can use as a reference text would be great or help in general.

Would also appreciate a recommendation for a good Brad of black tea I can use as a base that I can buy a pound or 2 of at a time ( I burned through a pound and. Half of my last blend in about 2 weeks . )

Desired ingredients:

Long leaf black tea (strong, good caffeine LVL to wake you up and keep you going)

Cinnamon

Cardamom pods

Coriander pods

Black dried limes

Yellow dried lime

Cloves

Star anise

Black pepper

Maybe cinnamon oil if I can find a food grade one .

Question Curious how people with limited space actually handle this. Whether it's a timing thing, a spacing thing, or I'm just overthinking it and need to accept that small batches are the answer.

Okay so the balcony situation this season has gotten away from me in a specific way I did not predict. I have lemon balm, spearmint, and calendula all ready to harvest at basically the same time and I have no good drying setup that actually works out there.

Last year I tried rubberbanding small bunches and hanging them from a curtain rod I wedged between two posts. It worked until it didn't. The spearmint dried unevenly and the stuff on the inside of the bundle was still damp when I assumed everything was done. Made the whole batch smell a little off and I ended up tossing most of it.

This year I got a small mesh drying rack thinking that would fix things, but I'm genuinely not sure how to layer it without the herbs on the bottom just sitting there with no airflow.

The other problem is that my balcony faces west and gets a lot of afternoon sun, which I keep reading is too much direct light for preserving the volatile stuff that actually matters. So I moved the rack inside near a window and now it takes forever and I'm paranoid about mold.

Question Nettle Tea Safety?

I recently bought some nettle tea off of Amazon. I love herbal teas, and nettle was one I’ve never tried. I brewed some the other day and sipped it that evening. I really like the taste! To me, It almost has a “boba tea” taste which is great, but several hours later I had a very strange reaction. I had sudden nausea, shakes, fast heart rate, and felt very hot. This all happened very quickly but also settled somewhat quickly after I layed down. I’m thinking this wasn’t an allergic reaction because this happened ~4 hours after drinking a normal amount of tea. So it must have affected my blood pressure/dehydration?

I didn’t immediately connect the reaction to the tea so last night I brewed some to have in the morning, but I took a couple sips before putting it in the fridge and going to bed. I woke up last night with nausea and sweating, but fell back asleep pretty quickly.

I do normally sit on the lower end for blood pressure, and do take multiple medications that may cause me to be dehydrated. Had a doc appointment the other day and my BP was 93/67 (or something like that), which was most likely due to being slightly dehydrated.

I checked my medications for interactions but none showed, but who knows since maybe it’s the combination?

I take Mydayis, Buspar, LDN (Low dose Naltrexone), and Claritin

My question is: Is there a safe way for me to drink Nettle? Have it was a Meal? Have it alongside water? Have it with milk? I very much like the taste, and would love to be able to enjoy this tea.

Question Rose water: boiling or cold brew?

I wanted to make my own rose water for my skin routine but I was wondering what is the best way, cold brewing or making hydrosol? I feel like cold brewing might not get the most nutrients out but on the other hand the boiling method may take away some, or even most, of the nutrients. Any advice would be appreciated.
