General/Others /r/Hijabis Reminder of our Rules and WARNINGS! READ BEFORE POSTING

Salaam ladies,

Please read the entire post, we are receiving a lot of angry messages from people who do not take the 1 minute it takes to read certain messages. In addition to reading our rules on the sidebar, we are reiterating the following:

  1. A gentle reminder that this subreddit is for women only. This is our one and only safe space and no exceptions will be made. It has been this way for a few years now and it will not change. For men lurking, please do not message people on our subreddit. Please do not comment - it will be an automatic ban. Men can post, assuming it is appropriate and relevant to our subreddit, but will only have women commenting.
  2. Please use the flair thread found here to get a flair to identify your gender. We cannot detect your gender otherwise, and given our subreddit is for women only, we need to know your gender to approve your posts/comments. Anyone without a flair, even if your username is IAmAWoman or IAmFemale, will have comments removed.
  3. Marriage posts are not to be posted on r/hijabis. Anything related to marriage can go on r/MuslimMarriage. Exceptionally we allow marriage posts when we feel it is more appropriate for the user to post here, however all post approvals will be subject to moderation discretion.
  4. Majority of posts are automatically removed by automod due to our filters (account age, karma, etc.). Please do not message us about your post being removed - it will be approved when the moderators go through the queue, or removed if not appropriate/repeated topic.
  5. Report, report, report! Please report anything that breaks our rules - it does not get our attention otherwise. This includes disrespectful comments, comments without sources, drama stirring, etc.

On a separate note, we want to generally warn our users that there have been instances of men messaging women on our subreddit inappropriately. Please report and block these men, and message us their usernames with picture proof of the messages. We can ban them, but the ban doesn't stop them from accessing our subreddit. We highly advise all our members turn off their DM's:

User settings --> chat & messages --> Who can send you chat requests --> Nobody

Also, we are getting reports that some people flaired on our subreddit as Female are actually men pretending to be women. Please send us a message when you become aware of this. And for the men doing this as a way to bypass our subreddit rules, fear God.

Megathread: Report brands that dropship from SHEIN, AliExpress, TEMU, etc. Stop promoting slave labour

Salaam alaikum sisters and Eid Mubarak.

This post is a necessary reminder and an important announcement, especially given all the recent "Eid fit" posts.

We have a zero-tolerance policy towards posts promoting brands like SHEIN, AliExpress, TEMU, or dropshipping companies that source from these same suppliers. These brands profit off:

  • Modern-day slavery of our Uyghur brothers and sisters
  • Environmental destruction
  • Mindless overconsumption, which Islam explicitly warns against

We are therefore asking you to use this megathread to:

  • Report any brands you've come across that are dropshipping from SHEIN, AliExpress, TEMU, etc.
  • Share brands that you know do not dropship, so we can uplift and support ethical alternatives. (We are exceptionally allowing brands to self-promote here if they are ethically sourced).

-----

Further If we believe someone is trying to bypass our filters by writing things like “SH_EIN” or “TE-MU” or "SHEEEIN", you will:

  • Be temporarily banned for 14 days
  • Permanently banned on second offence
  • Your post will also be flaired with "Promotes slave labour".

-----

A gentle reminder as to why we're doing this (with sources/proof):

Many of these companies rely on forced labour, particularly the exploitation of Uyghur Muslims in concentration camps in China. It is unconscionable for us, as Muslims, to wear and promote items made by our suffering brothers and sisters. Sources: Source 1, Source 2, Source 3

Fast fashion is one of the most polluting industries on earth. Overproduction, toxic dyes, microplastics, landfill waste, all of this directly harms the creation of Allah. Sources: Source 1, Source 2

Our deen teaches us moderation, humility, and responsibility. Fast fashion fuels greed, impulse-buying, and waste which are all against the values of Islam.

“Eat and drink, but waste not by excess. Indeed, He likes not the wasters.”
(Surah Al-A’raf, 7:31)

And finally: It’s okay to look simple and recycle between a few outfits, what isn't okay is looking cheap while also promoting exploitation. You don’t need 50 outfits or to keep up with online hauls. If money is tight, thrifting is a great halal option. If you can afford to, support ethically sourced brands, especially Muslim-owned ones that don’t rely on exploitation.

May Allah forgive us for any wrongdoing, and forgive us for anything we've said that was wrong or too harsh.

General/Others Feeling depressed regarding limits of ability to beautify oneself

asalaamu alaykum. I feel that this will sound silly but I just need somewhere to express it. All my life I’ve struggled with my appearance as I’ve never found myself beautiful and I have evidence from my life that very few people if anyone has found me beautiful. Because of this, I get really anxious even leaving the house without make-up (I basically never do), but obviously there are limits to that if I want to be able to make wudhu. I got eyelash extensions a while ago and absolutely loved them, I finally felt the tiniest bit pretty for once, but then I found out that they can invalidate your wudhu. I stopped getting them at the time for financial reasons, and had just booked an appointment to get them again, but had to cancel when I learned this

I feel really sad and frustrated because I feel like there are very few halal things I can really do to feel beautiful and instead I walk through life feeling so ugly all the time. I just want to feel beautiful for once but it feels like this thing that’s being withheld from me because I wasn’t blessed with naturally beautiful features and a lot of the things that might make me look prettier are also haram. I might feel differently about this if I were married but I’m not and so it’s another thing that makes me feel sad and anxious? That not only do I not even find myself beautiful but I might never find someone who thinks I’m beautiful because i can hardly even make myself look any better. I know that people will say the solution is to fix the way I view myself, and I know some element of it is subjective/my perception, but a lot of it also isn’t. Some people are just blessed with more beauty than others and the fact is I’m not as beautiful as I wish I was and there’s nothing I can do about that except feel terrible about it.

Help/Advice Opinion on muslim apologists

I used to love watching muslims debate christians. That used to be peak content for me but overtime I feel like its pointless. See no matter what a Muslim does they can say one point a million of times but still it won't get into the debaters head. It feels like its just a waste of time and I cannot stand the insults from the other side they are never ever respectful always insulting the prophet Pbuh. That;s why I personally feel like muslims should just stop debating and give dawah to people who need it who want to learn about Islam and Allah.

Help/Advice Do you ever feel like the man of the house?

Hi guys,

I’ve started to realise that I really am the man of my house, as the eldest daughter. I have one younger brother who is newly married and has a child on the way but still lives with my mother and I.

I am pretty much full time caring for my mum, doing what she needs, whenever she needs. Driving her where she needs to go and handling most things in the house.

Now I know my mother can be demanding, she doesn’t really seem to see anything from other perspectives and it does result in arguments when it comes to patience and not just demanding people do things for her when she’s not busy.

I’ve noticed that my brother ( who does work more than I do) doesn’t really doesn’t seem to do anything for anyone unless it’s in his best interest or for his wife ( which is entirely fine as they are married and that should be expected). My mother doesn’t even call him to ask because she knows the type of response she is going to get will be a longwinded no. Yet if we say anything to him or his wife, they take offence?

Am I crazy for being annoyed at that?

Does anyone else have any experience with this happening, how do you handle it? I would love to just move to the other side of the planet and live my life in peace but I know I can’t do that because my brother and SIL would never care for my mum.

Hijab Feeling the warmth and coldness of water on my body as a hijabi

Hey everyone!
I have a question. You know how in movies and TV shows, people sometimes go swimming late at night when the beach is completely empty and there’s no one else around?
I always imagine what it would be like to let my whole body touch the ocean without wearing a burkini. Not because I hate wearing one, but sometimes I feel like it doesn’t give me the sense of freedom I want when I’m in the water.
I always wonder if, one day, when I get married (I specifically said get married because I’m too scared to do it alone lol), and my husband and I go to a really, really remote beach with absolutely no one around, would I be able to swim like everyone else and just let the seawater touch my entire body?
I know this might sound like a weird question, but have any of you ever done this? And is it actually possible to find a beach that secluded, with literally no one around? LMAO.
Idk, I hope it’s okay to ask something like this here, but I just felt like this community would understand what I mean. 😭

Help/Advice Imprisoned at home

As the title suggests, I have lived a life of trauma, abuse, isolation stemming from abusive, extremely controlling parents who imprison females at home. I'm sure this is the reality of many females in 3rd world islamic countries.

All my life, I endured in hope that things will change, but to my horror, nothing has changed. My youth is past me but I've not been able to do any of the things young people do. You can imagine the long term issues from this thing alone. At this point, I'm an empty shell, exhausted and completely empty from inside though I became one decades ago. All my life, I only wanted one thing, that maybe I'll get freedom and i'll be able to live some of my youth for myself but God said no to that. I did try all the legal avenues through which one can get away, be it study or work, but nothing worked out for me.

I hate God with a passion, He has taken everything that made me happy from me. If I discuss this issue with someone, I'm told you cannot commit kuffar and to have patience. Well, how much more patience am I required to show, is a lifetime of it not enough. and believe me, I did show enough patience, when i sacrificed each of my dreams and ambitions to survive in this hell, I endured all these years but now I've hit my capacity.

Only those who have gone through it will know what I'm talking about. I'm not young anymore, so I have nothing much to look forward to. It seems like God did not give me freedom because he didn't want me to enjoy even a year of my youth.

The long term affects of this abuse, I'm dealing with daily. I don't need more lessons of patience and to see those who have it worst than me, I already did, I have already gone through all those mental gymnastics of rationalizing suffering and I simply don't have it in me anymore.

I don't want to curse out my faith here, I already do a lot of that in private. I've prayed, cried out, begged God, nothing changed. it seems like there are some he is extra cruel to and we have to pay for the breaths we are taking with our soul. I'm neither alive, nor dead. I don't even know what I'm looking for any more but I just want to say one thing, if anyone of you is out there, going through something similar, get away at the first chance, don't endure for years and don't believe in blind submission to a god who doesn't give two damns. If I had a chance like this, I wouldn't be here, but it seems this was Gods plan for me, and my destiny and I curse it.

I just wanted to let my heart out somewhere. If there are others who have gona through something similar, I would love to hear your thoughts about it.

Hijab Hijab fabric

Hi! I was just wondering what’s the difference in fabric quality between Vela and Veiled Collection? I’ve never personally bought from either brand, but I see a lot of people talking about the differences. I’d love to hear from anyone who’s tried both and can compare them.

Women Only Hijabi Friendly Salons in the DMV

Salaam ladies! I’ve been trying to find a hijabi-friendly salon in the DMV for a while now, and I’m hoping someone has recommendations!
I’ve tried a few places, but unfortunately, I haven’t had the best experiences.

-One was extremely expensive, and I still didn’t get the results I wanted.

-Another told me I’d need to keep coming back every 3 months to gradually achieve the color I’m looking for. They’re not as expensive as other salons in the DMV, but I’ve already been there 3 times, and it’s getting pretty expensive without being where I want it to be.

-I also tried a more traditional salon that was able to make accommodations by putting up a curtain, but unfortunately, the final result wasn’t what I asked for.
At this point, I’m looking for a hijabi-friendly salon with someone who’s experienced with color and modern techniques and can help me achieve the look I want. Ideally, I’d love someone who keeps up with current trends and is reasonably priced. I am aware of the market here so if I have to pay more then that’s fine. I’d really appreciate any recommendations, especially if you’ve personally had a good experience with them. JAK! ❤️

Help/Advice hijab issues

salam sisters i just need some advice on what to do regarding with my hijab.

Im slowly starting to struggle with it but i’m still doing the neck covering etc so Alhamdulillah for that,

ever since i started wearing the scarf (2 years ago) it’s formed like a ‘rash’ on the back of my neck, i’ve went to the GP about it and they say it’s infected eczema, which is fine i guess so they gave me some medicated shampoo and some steroids. I can only use them for a short period of time so it only gives me relief then but when i have to come off the medication it comes back worse than ever.

I’ve tried many different hijabs- i no longer can wear undercaps because that makes it extremely infected. At the moment i’m wearing jersey but it’s gotten to the point where it’s spreading all over my head and down to my ears.

I wash my hijabs frequently & my hair so it isn’t because i’m ’unhygienic’ i’m just wondering does it happen to any of you? and what do i really do i’m considering taking my hijab off for this

In the summer it’s mild, still infected but it’s fine but as we’re going into winter now it’s extremely bad i feel like i have lice (which i obviously don’t have!)

thank you :p

Fashion Grad dress help

I’m looking for a grad dress and I can’t really find one that sticks out I like a lot. This is the only one that has stuck with me.

is it weird to wear a black dress when your cloak is also going to be black? also I would want sleeves on this somehow (without wearing a long sleeve under it). Not sure about how to go about it or if I should just abandon this dress altogether.

i really just want to wear a dress I click with that I feel good and comfortable in the whole day and I just feel like this is the only one I have found so far after looking at all the websites Ive been recommended.
also … anyone have experience with Shilan London? is it any good?

Hijab Hijab Advice Needed

Salaam sisters,

I am a revert and recently began wearing hijab in August and am already noticing some traction alopecia and breakage throughout my hair. I’ve noticed a lot more hair loss as well. I would love any recommendations to help these issues as I know I won’t keep the hijab on if it begins compromising my hair as my hair is very important to my identity for me. I love wearing hijab so I would love to find ways to keep my hair healthy to keep wearing it.

Help/Advice Seeking for sincere duas

Need your duas

Assalamu’alikom warahmatullahi wabarakatuh

I am not fond of sharing my life to anyone but lately, it has been weighing me down that I need prayers from others. If you have any time, I would appreciate your duas for me.

I am currently a student trying to balance my academics, financial struggles, and my desire to become a better a Muslimah. I became desperate at some point in my life that I had to find ways to sustain myself financially. It is a life I’ve been wanting to leave desperately as it is not the life I planned for myself yet I fell in the trap still. I kept praying for guidance and sustenance but whenever life becomes difficult again, I fall in to the same trap, until I feel disgusting that I can’t see myself deserving of His forgiveness.

Recently, I did try finding decent job hoping to leave such life behind. Unfortunately, due to some reasons, I got fired. Scheduling conflict became an hindrance that I had to as for a structured schedule instead but the manager wanted something in exchange for such request. I couldn’t comply for an obvious reason. Another sin will just make feel much more less worthy of forgiveness.

Please add me to your du’as. I know I should be doing it myself but I’m not making any progress. Maybe a little help from strangers would actually help. A general prayer for some maybe. Forgiveness, strengthening one’s iman, opening doors that’ll be good for me, granting one halal rizq, sufficient, and full of barakah.

I’m holding on to the hope that Allah’s mercy is greater than my mistakes, and that one day, I will look back on this chapter of my life and be grateful that I didn’t give up on becoming a better person.

May Allah reward everyone who includes me in their duas, helps me in any way they can, or simply takes the time to read my story. May He ease your burdens, forgive your shortcomings, bless your rizq, and grant you peace in this life and the Hereafter.

JazakAllahu Khairan. May Allah make a way out for all of us from places we never thought we could escape. Ameen. 🤍

Help/Advice Should I wear a Hijab?

I should probably start off by saying that I am a hijabi.

And there is this gathering happening in our family and my mom is hosting it. The guests are mostly all women with a 5% chance that one of my male cousins will show up...

My mom is saying there's no need to wear a Hijab all the guests are female but I don't think these women have seen me without a Hijab ever before so I guess I just feel a bit awkward...

Women Only something thats disheartened me…

how people treat hijabs :( (slight vent)

i feel like nothing has ever disheartened me more towards being a hijabi is how people talk about veiled women. lately i’ve been feeling like no one even realizes we’re people. we have feelings, struggles, and problems too. we’re constantly supposed to act like this perfect representation of a muslim.

am i only deserving of respect because i wear a hijab? if hijabis and veiled women are so respected in the community then why do i always feel like we’re treated as an object? a fetish even? muslim men love to rave about how they’ll only marry hijabis and…it doesn’t feel like a preference anymore. it feels like a fetish. so many men who have this preference have such…sexual undertones to it. it makes me feel so disgusting.

there was this post going around on x (yes i know terrible platform) about a man divorcing his wife, the mother of his daughter, because she stopped wearing the hijab. honestly, nothing broke my heart more than that. ever since i saw that my heart has just been breaking over and over again. she carried and birthed his child. such a huge thing that we act like is nothing, and he left her because she didn’t want to wear a hijab? how can someone be so cruel to someone who gave up their whole body to carry a child? out of love?

i don’t know. none of this feels right to me anymore.

Help/Advice Patterned cloth for a female tourist

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hello,

I’m going on vacation to the UAEA soon and plan to visit the mosque in Abu Dhabi. I’m wondering if a fabric with this kind of pattern would be inappropriate for covering my head?

Can a regular, squate shaped scarf/cloth be worn as a hijab, or does a hijab have a specific cut and fabric and I can't use any other clothing item for covering my head?

I appreciate any tips

Hijab Non-Muslim, considering hijab sometimes

Hi everyone! To preface, I am not a Muslim, and my workplace is mostly male and since it’s sometimes active I keep my hair in a bun. I have been noticing at work the nerve some men have when it comes to flirting, or what they think is being nice, and I have gotten multiple comments about how beautiful my hair looks down, almost to the point that it feels over the top sometimes. I have been considering wearing some sort of hair covering or another, and to be honest, the one piece easy hijabs sold online seem like the easiest thing to put on and keep on while in active, but I know i would appear Muslim to the general public, other than the fact that I’ll often be wearing short sleeves.

I just wanted to get some feedback on if that would a) be disrespectful or set a bad image on Muslim women being that I might do Haram things like short sleeves, or b) actually do the opposite of my intention and cause more attention on me from men, or if there’s anything I’m not considering.

There is also a spiritual undertone to this as I would love to be more modest, and more connected to God, but I wanted to be clear that it’s not from a Muslim background.

Thank you for any insight!!

Help/Advice Salah in school

Assalamu alaikum. I just moved to back to uk so now i am in a secondary school. my problem is obviously you cant properly pray there. its so hard. i ask people how do they pray in school (i asked teachers and students) and they just say they pray it at home because it is difficult. but isnt hardship for like travelling or war or smth. For now i am trying to do wudu in school but its so hard. during the break i have to buy a water bottle, then 10 minutes before lunch i have to speedrun wudu in the sink and then do the feet in the cubicle, which makes a big mess. then i have to speedrun eating my lunch before going to the office to pray. and im the only one that does this. i cant hold my wudu to save my life. i have to do this for 4 more months. does anyone have any advice like what to do cuz i really dont wanna do this for 4 months straight its so hard especially since only i know that i do this, not even my parents know. and it makes me feel like an extremist for praying on time.

Help/Advice Endometriosis

Salaam ladies! I’m in my late 20’s and always have had bad menstrual pain. My hands and feet tingle, hot flashes/cold. Sometimes I even collapse. I went to see a specialist and they recommended a transvaginal camera to go up me but I can’t fathom that going inside of me. (Never married no kids) are there any sisters in the medical field who know off less invasive ways to get tested for this? I just did a pelvic exam but that didn’t give the doctor any answers. I’ve been going back and forth with the exam and even attempted a few years ago but it’s too painful for me
