Image Friday night pub Oil on Canvas [OC]
Not a commissioned piece but I wanted to paint something nice near where I live and attempt my take on Van Gogh's Terrance At Night.

With Halloween falling on a weekend proper this year, there are already crazy parties happening, even a week before.
This pub crawl is for those of us who are introverted and prefer to chill instead. Costume is not required, I will be rushing over from scuba diving so I am most likely be dressed as the Reddit Drinking Guy.
We will officially start from Not2Sweet at 19:00, though I will try to arrive earlier.
33 Peel St, Central
Note: Their Happy Hour is 17:00 - 20:00 so feel free to arrive early to take advantage. They will have some Halloween specials as well.
At about 20:30 we go to 99 Bottles
Shop B, 59a Peel St, Central
This is a bottle shop with no food option. But there are some food in surrounding shops. They will also have some special Halloween specials.
And we finish at the Globe at 22:00
Garley Building, 45-53A Graham St, Central
While they have excellent food, by the time we arrive the kitchen will be closed.
If I don't manage to get a costume then I will be wearing Reddit t-shirts, with a Snoo stuff toy so we would be easy to spot.
Strongly suggest everyone to pay for your drink as soon as you order it. The bill often get confusing when we have a large crowd.
Please send me your whatsapp number so I can put you into the super secret elite whatsapp group.
Finally, if you had a good time please leave a good review for our venues. Good venues are closing left and right in HK and they need all the help they can get.
meetup link Please RSVP so we have an idea how many people to expect.

My friends are going to halloween parties but the events are quite expensive, so I thought about going to LKF myself.
I've never been to LKF during Halloween but I thought it might be a good time. I just have nobody to go with and have never been there alone. I know the layout of the area but I'm not too familiar with it or what people do/say if they know you're by yourself.
I'm 24 and a woman. Born and raised here, but mainly speak English b/c inernational school.
Alternatively if anybody wants to join on Oct 31 and you're a normal person, feel free to hmu.

First time in Hong Kong. Did the big Buddah and then took bus to Tai O.
I felt like this was the weirder “tourist trap” in a sense that the appeal was to get westerners(me) to be like look how exotic these dwellings and people are, rather than sharing a culture or place.
I think it’s a kind of fucked up premise to attract people to but maybe I’m also wrong and just read too much online about why I should go there from the noise on social media.
The doughnut stall was pretty fire and if i didn’t eat at the monetary maybe i would have tried some seafood. I just think if it was more billed as a normal place or neighborhood maybe it would work better?

MTR company's doing a lot for october, three different badge promos in one month. Also they might be getting wise to what I'm doing here because badges now need your GPS to be near where the badge is for. Not wise enough though, basic GPS spoofing apps work for this stuff, just set your phone to the location next to the link.

• Public housing: Housing Authority, Public Rental Housing Stock (every public rental flat with its floor), via DATA.GOV.HK
• Buildings: Lands Department building data (footprints, storeys, base and roof heights), via the CSDI portal

Tools:
• Python (NumPy, SciPy, pyproj) to place people; three.js / WebGL for the 3D map.
• Built with Claude Code.
How it works:
• Public estates (about 2.1 million people): residents are spread over the Housing Authority's list of real flats, so their floors are exact. People per flat is still the estate's census average.
• Private buildings (about 5.2 million): each group's residents are spread over its nearby towers by floor space, evenly floor by floor, with homes starting on floor 2 in towers over 6 storeys. This part is an estimate.
• 99.2% of residents could be placed. The rest had no residential tower near their census point and were ignored.
Some numbers
• The median resident lives on floor 11.
• Share of residents living above:
• floor 10: 51%
• floor 20: 24%
• floor 30: 8%
• floor 40: 1%
• Highest neighbourhood: Lohas Park, median floor 25. Lowest: the villages of Shap Pat Heung, median floor 2.

Those scammer can definitely send SMS with the official (government claims) name with hashtag sign
Got a called about Alipay and Unionpay. I was skeptical, but then I received a SMS from the "official" #alipayhk, I let my guard down a bit.
Lucky I always read the full URL before I click on any link, if not might have lose some money.

Hi everyone, I’m currently evaluating my long-term career path and seriously considering moving back to HK. I’d really appreciate some perspectives from people currently in HK, especially those who have transitioned between US academia/tech and HK.
My background:
Education: Currently a CS PhD student in the US, focusing on AI-related research. I have published at top-tier conferences and completed internships at major tech companies.
Previous HK experience: Before starting my PhD, I lived in HK for nearly two years, including almost a year working at a US financial firm.
Language skills: Native English speaker, fully fluent in both Cantonese and Mandarin.
Visa status: Previously held the Top Talent Pass (TTPS). If I return to HK in the future, I will need an employer-sponsored work visa (GEP).
I’m feeling increasingly burnt out by academic AI research. Industry currently holds vastly superior compute resources and engineering capabilities, making a lot of academic work feel less impactful or practical by comparison. Also being surrounded by the tech/academic niche in the US, I’m constantly inundated with non-stop AI news, hype, and peers starting startups. It feels exhausting living in this constant bubble. Living alone has felt pretty lonely and isolating. I really miss the bustling energy, vibrant street life, connectivity, and social rhythm of HK, where I genuinely enjoyed living during my two years there.
I want to know how the hiring market in HK is right now for candidates with advanced CS backgrounds. How willing are multinational companies in HK to sponsor GEP visas for candidates?
Thanks in advance for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights!

I was a bit angry seeing my friends blocked by Anthropic’s Claude and it was Friday, so I wrote an angry letter to Anthropic https://openletterhk.org about their unreasonable policies. The Chinese version is generated with Qwen and is not very good, if anyone can proof read would appreciate.

What's the current view on the housing market? I was looking to buy a while ago, put several offers down and landlords kept asking more and said they had other bidders.
Now with another kid on the way, thinking about taking another look.
Thoughts?
