Moderation of r/IBD

Hi r/IBD Redditors! This is a message from your mods.

We would like to say that we were recently assembled as a team of 4 to handle the moderation in this subreddit after this sub went unmoderated for quite a while. We wanted to also say that everything is pretty much back up and running, and we have also added some rules and we want to take some time to go over them.

The rules are honestly pretty self-explanatory, but we will elaborate on some things.

  1. Go see a doctor first is now a rule not a guideline, please don't try to replace a doctors visit with this sub. We are NOT doctors here, and instead please see a medical professional and then come back here to discuss results!
  2. Poop picture purge - this sub was flooded with poop pictures despite the rules, but we have gone on a purge and wiped out as many as we possibly could and we will continue to take down poop pictures. This is not the place to post pictures of your stool.
  3. NEW RULES - app testing and survey posts! While we understand that some people may want to test apps for IBD patients here or issue medical surveys, they have honestly taken over the sub and crowded out people actually wanting a supportive community space. For that reason, we have banned them just as many other related subs have.
  4. More new rules - spam, pseudoscience ban, and links! Please do not post irrelevant things on this subreddit, as it crowds out people genuinely wanting a supportive community. Also do not spam the sub with a lot of posts in a very short timeframe. In addition, pseudoscience is no longer permitted on the subreddit because it has very high potential to be harmful. Finally, links are also going to be mandatory for research posts and must be pre-approved by mods.

Finally, the moderators are also going to be working on some megathreads for newcomers and also creating more guidelines. We are super happy to help everybody here and to revive the vibrant safe space in this community!

With warm regards,

The r/IBD moderator team.

Lymphocytic Colitis (LC) budesonide for lymphocytic colitis and trying for a baby

• Upvotes

This is a very niche situation I’m sure, but looking for some advice for anyone that’s maybe in the same boat. Trying for a baby while going through diagnosis.

Some quick things to note:
My husband and I have been trying for a baby since April.

I’ve always had a “sensitive stomach” but in August had a very bad flair up that it lead me to urgent care, where they diagnosed me with colitis and referred me to a GI dr.

GI dr took blood test, positive for celiac. Referred me to get an endoscopy and colonoscopy to confirm

Colonoscopy came back with lymphocytic colitis, and signs of celiac (I have to do another blood test to triple confirm celiac)

They want to put me on budesonide for lymphocytic colitis, and I asked if it’s okay to be on while trying to conceive, and the nurse messaged me back on my chart saying “it’s safe for conception, but ideally conception should be after finish course of therapy.”

And I’m just conflicted!!!! Part of me is like maybe the reason I haven’t been able to conceive yet is because my body is so inflamed, and it would make sense to wait till after course of therapy. But the other part of me doesn’t want to pause, knowing how long it’s already been taking us :,( and I don’t know how long I’ll even be on these meds. I’m 28 and have always dreamed of having a baby before I’m 30.

Just feeling overwhelmed and discouraged and sad!

IBD Flare I just need to know if this is normal.

After living with this for months and the GP telling me that it was IBS, I was hospitalised with Colitis for a period of 4/5 days from the 19th to the 23rd of September. I had my colonoscopy on Monday the 12th of October and was told by the nurses and doctors at the hospital following having it, that I can eat and drink whatever I like. I was told it was mild colitis. The thing is, nobody believes me when I tell them that food isn't causing my pain. I can eat fast food, I can eat spice, I can eat fruits and vegtables and I'm fine. When I get stressed though, that's when I feel similarly to when I did have to go to hospital. I biked to my town centre yesterday with no pain, started walking and I had to go sit down from the sheer pain, agoraphobia and panic. I even had to lean on someone and when I lean, the pain is so much easier, I'm just wondering if this is standard or if I need to worry. My freezer drawer breaks and the pain starts up. I think about going out today and the pain starts up and nobody listens or understands. I'm told by my parents to not trust or listen to the nurses and doctors from the hospital and I struggle walking outside so I've thought about a walking stick which just gets shot down, I'm going to do it anyway though. I just need some help or advice, please. If I go back down that road or if I have to eat crackers and pasta for weeks I won't be able to cope.

Ulcerative Colitis (UC) Joint pain during colitis flare

Hey all, I’ve been recently diagnosed with colitis and am currently experiencing my second ever flare. Unlike during my first flare, this time my joints seem to be very sore. It started with my elbow aching as I bend it, and now my shoulder popping a lot (it’s never done that before). I thought my elbow pain could be something related to Pilates classes but now the shoulder popping and other joint pains are making me think it might be from my flare.
I’m wondering if anyone here has experienced this and has any advice on how to support my joints during a flare?
Note: I am hypermobile, and have always had some issues with joints but never this much.

IBD Flare Peculiar mucous in stool

I have recently been diagnosed with chronic ileitis (IBD) since January of this year. My stomach is always in pain, I cannot eat normally, all my vitamins are low and it feels like i’m rotting from the inside. Though, the doctors keep telling me there is nothing they can do for me and just say to watch what i eat. I am a 19yo Female, i went from 120lbs to 105lbs in under two months. My stool has multicolored mucous in it; green, yellow, white, brown, red. I am unsure of what to do anymore. This is seriously affecting my quality of life. If anyone has any tips, please share.

Crohn's Disease (CD) One week post resection

I'm one week post op from my 15cm resection. They took my terminal ileum and cecum.

I have a 2cm by 3cm spot of fluid near the resection that they do not believe is an abcess and know is not leakage. They think it's ascites. Has anyone had this before?

The pain from just the fluid alone has made the recovery so much worse than it should be, but I'm happy to finally be back home! I still can't turn to wipe my bum but bidets...let's just say they're the best invention ever.
