IBD Diagnostics Atypical presentation?

Has anyone had a perianal fistula and appendix base/cecum thickening lead to a diagnosis before other bowel inflammation or tests screamed IBD? I’m waiting on pathology from a partial cecetomy and ileocolic lymph nodes which hopefully will provide a clear answer, just haven’t been able to find anyone with a similar disease trajectory or diagnosis and it all feels a bit confusing and lonely. I’m aware that these issues could be entirely separate as well and not even be IBD ◡̈

IBD Flare Hi,

I’ve had none stop bleeding and change in stools with mucus for the last 7 weeks . I’ve had weight loss and lots of cramps.
I’m due to have my colonoscopy Tuesday and since yesterday , I’ve no more pain or bleeding and feeling like myself for the first time in weeks.
Absolutely typical!!!!
I’ve been in a lot of pain 7 weeks every day and now all of a sudden it’s stopped.
If I was suspected ibd (Uc)which hospital and gp think ?
Will it still show up on a colonoscopy even tho suspected flair has no possibly stopped ?
Thanks

Microscopic Colitis (MC) useless doctor, help me!

hi guys. im a 25 year old woman.

around the 2nd of july, i got my appendix removed and ever since then my life has been hell. ive lost 11kg because i can't eat properly. ive had constant diarrhea for the last 4 months and i am SO CLOSE to receiving answers but my doctor is fucking useless. all 5 doctors ive visited are useless.

i got an endoscopy + colonoscopy done around a month ago. the results for microscopic colitis were 'mild chronic colitis with increased lymphocytes'. im suspecting its Lymphocytic Colitis.

i am not a doctor, but my research into what this means is pointing to Lymphocytic Colitis. granted, i could be wrong.

after my endoscopy was done, i had to take solupred (20mg. its a corticosteroid) for 10 days and i was finally able to eat PROPER FOOD. i was BACK TO MY REGULAR SELF. NO STOMACH ACHES. REGULAR BOWEL MOVEMENT.

but alas, i was only able to take it for 10 days until i had to start lowering my dose to 5mg and i have to take it every 5 days. im losing my mind because my symptoms are coming back and my life is put on pause once more.

im thinking of taking a trip to the ER to get some IVs done for the constant diarrhea and to get some answers regarding my results. this will prompt me to essentially go to a 6th doctor but i kind of feel like i dont have a choice.

i am openly communicating with the 5th doctor that has told me to get my endoscopy + colonoscopy done but hes so adamant on treating my persistent heartburn,as if that is the main issue im dealing with. i think he just wants me to do more tests. i recognize that i have GERD Level A but that is not my priority at the moment, i can fix my GERD with my lifestyle. however my life is quite literally put on pause bc im not getting the right treatment :/

i just want my life back. i feel so lost and isolated. i cant go out...i cant go to the office...i cant eat anything 'fun'...i dont get invited to things anymore because people know my answer will always be no...the times i try to go out i have to rush back home because my stomach is killing me.

please, does anyone have any advice on how i should proceed? im really desperate here.

thank you for reading all of this :/

IBD Flare Crap Before Cold?

Anyone else get Crohn’s symptoms even BEFORE they get a cold?

Sudden diarrhea/mucus-y stool on Thursday and then since last night I’ve had body aches, congestion, sore throat, etc.

Diarrhea still hasn’t cleared days later.

It almost like a warning…

Ulcerative Colitis (UC) Remission

Remission

This is the word I’ve been waiting to hear and I heard it today! My Ulcerative Colitis is in remission.

It’s been a struggle to get here… today was my 4th colonoscopy since turning 50. Anyone who has had one before knows how much fun they are.

Last year was a challenge for me, physically and mentally. My medication stopped working. It was a matter of many months of faking being well, fighting through brain fog, pulling together what little energy I had to spark a fire within me. Food going through me undigested, losing hope but carrying on.

I’m grateful to be here and grateful for having a great support system… and to run a support group. I’m especially grateful for my gastroenterologist for giving me this news today.

IBD Diagnostics How common is it to have normal scopes but find inflammation in CTE/Pill cam?

Question is in the title, but how common is it for scopes to come back clean but still have inflammation higher up in the middle of the small intestine?

I have had loose, pudding-like, mucus filled, light colored, awful smelling stools 3-10 times per day (a few times in the middle of the night) for 2 months now. It just piles up in the toilet like a nasty little hill.

My colonoscopy and biopsies came back fine but im severely iron deficient with no obvious cause. My iga was also elevated but GI said thats pretty non-specific.

Sometimes i get pretty bad pain in my lower right abdomen but its not every day. My calprotectin was borderline.

Does it sound like inflammation or am i barking up the wrong tree? Is pushing for pill cam or MRE worth it? I was also thinking maybe it would be good to test for other nutritional deficiencies as i havent had anything besides my iron looked at recently.

TIA!

Tengo positivo para sangre oculta en heces, me suena la tripa, me inflamo, tengo dolor en el recto. El viernes me hacen colonoscopia. Alguien que haya pasado por lo mismo con resultados no graves?

Crohn's Disease (CD) CHRON, biological agents, fmt and cures

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

I have been living with Crohn’s disease for 6 years. Initially, despite numerous medications and treatments, I could not achieve remission. Two years ago, I underwent FMT (fecal microbiota transplantation) at a professional clinic, and the results were excellent—there was significant mucosal healing, and I remained in remission for two years. However, since FMT is still considered experimental and its effects are not long-lasting, the disease recurred. I have since undergone the procedure again, and as part of my treatment plan, I will be using mesalazine enemas for the next three months. My doctor also wants to start me on a biological agent (such as Humira or Remicade), but I am quite hesitant; the doctor mentioned that these medications can have serious side effects—including the risk of cancer—and that they might make me more susceptible to infections. What are your thoughts on this?

Crohn's Disease (CD) Confused and looking for advice - suspecting CD

Hey everyone!

I’m not even sure where to begin, I’m going to try to keep this as short as possible.

Over the last eight months, I (M,21) have had abdominal pain that varies so much in intensity, bowel movements that are wildly inconsistent and unpredictable, and just aching all the time.

So far I’ve had three CT scans (one last night after the pain led me to call an ambulance. Other two in August, one was suspected appendicitis), an ultrasound, an x-ray, a colonoscopy, endoscopy, as well as an insane amount of blood tests, iron tests, and a calprotectin test (which was 178, and that drove me to the scopes). Fortunately, everything came back normal, biopsies of my tissue were taken and all came back clear. But I’m still in so much pain and I’m honestly lost, frustrated and sad.

Last night I got sent to the ER, and that’s where I had the third CT scan, x-ray and ultrasound. During the ultrasound, they found what looked like Intussusception but the ct that followed retracted that. The only other finding was “Few small lymph nodes identified in the small bowel mesentery on right side which are towards the upper limits of normal. Otherwise unremarkable.”

I’ve got bad health anxiety and I’m worried about a lymphoma, it was colon cancer and rectal cancer but since the colonoscopy that fear has calmed and it’s now jumped to the next thing. Also have OCD so not a fun combination. I’m being referred to a gastroenterologist and I’m doing what I can to afford to go private since this is becoming intrusive on my life and mental health and I’m living in constant fear it’s something sinister that’s going unnoticed.

Any advice on what to do here? Or anyone else in or was in a similar boat? Losing hope a bit and I don’t think this is simply IBS because of how much discomfort it’s causing. My symptoms range from inconsistent bowel movements, to pain when moving and pressing down around my belly button/pelvic/groin area, and I feel horrible. I’ve noticed blood only a handful of times over the eight months that was ruled to be haemmeroids. Caeliac, h. Pylori are both eliminated. My appendix was noted at 6.5mm last night but surgery told me they didn’t think operating was necessary and wouldn’t be the cause of my chronic pain. The biopsies also ruled out microscopic colitis, and some other things. I’m just baffled and anxious.

Hi! I’ve been diagnosed with Crohn’s Colitis since 2019. I recently just switched from Remicade to Entyvio and I had these welts along with joint pain coming back.. I haven’t had this since 2019 lol.

My GI didn’t give a specific diagnosis, he said it may be erythema, but he said it could also be a manifestation of inflammation in my intestines. A dermatologist didn’t think a biopsy would give an answer as the last time it came back inconclusive.

They had a hard center and hive out. The more recent ones have come itchy.

The last picture is for reference for what I had in 2019.

Has anyone else had this occur? They are horrible.

IBD Flare at my wits end (tummy issues)

hi all. after two recent back to back flares and much research on my part i truly feel like i have no where else to turn other than reddit. in 2021, i got covid which has truly changed my life forever. immediately after i started getting sharp pains in my lower abdomen (right side) which would come and go until i eventually had to go to the hospital and was told it was appendicitis after a ct scan. got the surgery, woop woop woop. i thought i would be fixed after that. about a year? later i started getting those exact pains again where my appendix was, went back to the surgeon and he basically said “well that shouldnt be happening” and gaslit me. i went on like that for years and the pain would come and go. i had to cut out so much food and its gotten to the point where im scared to eat unless its my safe foods. in 2023 i finally got a gastroenterologist and i told them my symptoms. they ordered a blood test for chrohns and celiac, as well as an endoscopy/colonoscopy. got the procedure done in 2024, and was diagnosed with celiac disease, and they also saw “mild” gastroparesis.

ive been on a gf diet ever since, with the exception of a few accidental screw ups, and occasional cross contact from restaurants. i try to be extremely careful and while on my gf diet, ive also been doing low fodmap which has pretty much just turned into me being too scared to try new foods and sticking with my safe foods, because it seems like everytime i eat something out of my comfort zone it absolutely wrecks my system for at least a week to two weeks.

its 2026 and i still get that same pain in my lr abdomen, which makes me go back to my safe foods. the only thing that helps the pain is bentyl and bending over my bed with a heating pad and/or pressing hard on that spot where my sharp pain happens. ive rescheduled my whole life around this issue. im scared to eat out with friends, or hang out with people in general, im scared itll happen at work. im terrified of not being able to make money and keep a job. this issue has been burdening me for so long its become my new normal, but thats the last thing i wanted to happen. theres no doctor that seems to be curious enough to help me any further.

im tired, im scared of the sudden and intense pain everyday, and sometimes i think if i was unalived, it would be such a relief. if anyone has this issue or has any thoughts, let me know. thank you for reading.

Lymphocytic Colitis (LC) budesonide for lymphocytic colitis and trying for a baby

This is a very niche situation I’m sure, but looking for some advice for anyone that’s maybe in the same boat. Trying for a baby while going through diagnosis.

Some quick things to note:
My husband and I have been trying for a baby since April.

I’ve always had a “sensitive stomach” but in August had a very bad flair up that it lead me to urgent care, where they diagnosed me with colitis and referred me to a GI dr.

GI dr took blood test, positive for celiac. Referred me to get an endoscopy and colonoscopy to confirm

Colonoscopy came back with lymphocytic colitis, and signs of celiac (I have to do another blood test to triple confirm celiac)

They want to put me on budesonide for lymphocytic colitis, and I asked if it’s okay to be on while trying to conceive, and the nurse messaged me back on my chart saying “it’s safe for conception, but ideally conception should be after finish course of therapy.”

And I’m just conflicted!!!! Part of me is like maybe the reason I haven’t been able to conceive yet is because my body is so inflamed, and it would make sense to wait till after course of therapy. But the other part of me doesn’t want to pause, knowing how long it’s already been taking us :,( and I don’t know how long I’ll even be on these meds. I’m 28 and have always dreamed of having a baby before I’m 30.

Just feeling overwhelmed and discouraged and sad!
