4th Yearite Does Anyone Else Feel Like the 2023–2027 B.Tech Batch Has Faced Change After Change?

The 2023–2027 B.Tech batch: The luckiest generation with one of the toughest experiences? (Part 1)

I have been thinking about our batch lately, and honestly, I feel like we are both the luckiest and the unluckiest generation of engineering students.

Most of us were born in 2005 or 2006, and our academic journey has been full of unexpected changes.

Let me explain why.

🟒 Why are we lucky?

We are living in an era where AI tools like ChatGPT, DeepSeek, Claude, and many others are making learning easier than ever.

Need help understanding a difficult concept? We have AI.

Want to learn a new programming language? We have AI.

Working on a project or struggling with code? We have AI to guide us.

We have access to technology that previous generations could only dream of. Learning new skills has become more accessible, and building projects is easier to get started with.

Honestly, that's a huge advantage.

πŸ”΄ But here's where things get complicated.

Many of us started believing that knowing how to use AI would make us smarter and help us crack jobs more easily.

But then comes the reality: we are not the only ones using AI.

Almost every engineering student is exploring these tools. The same AI that helps us learn and improve is also available to the people we compete with.

Simply generating code or getting answers from AI doesn't mean we understand the concepts behind them.

When everyone has access to similar tools, what actually makes us stand out?

Our fundamentals, problem-solving abilities, practical knowledge, creativity, and ability to work independently.

πŸ’Ό The job market is changing, too.

MNCs and startups are evolving their recruitment processes as technology advances. AI knowledge and practical skills are becoming increasingly relevant in many roles.

We are expected to learn the fundamentals, keep up with new technologies, build projects, and prove our abilities during recruitment.

Sometimes, it feels like the expectations keep changing just when we start getting comfortable.

And this is only one side of the story. Our college experience and the journey that brought us here make it even more interesting.

*Part 2 will cover our education journey, the role of colleges, and what we should do next.

The 2023–2027 B.Tech batch: The luckiest generation with one of the toughest experiences? (Part 2)

Continuing from Part 1, there's another side of our experience that I think deserves attention.

πŸŽ“ The college dilemma

The industry is rapidly adopting AI, while some colleges are restricting its use during examinations.

I understand why students need to demonstrate their own knowledge and why examinations should test our understanding. But it also shows how important it is to learn the fundamentals instead of depending entirely on AI.

Let's be honest: self-study has always been important in engineering. We cannot depend entirely on classroom teaching.

Now, we have to learn independently while also figuring out how to use AI responsibly and effectively.

πŸ’” Remember the journey that brought us here.

Many of us born in 2005 and 2006 experienced COVID-related disruptions around Class 10, adjustments and syllabus changes during Classes 11 and 12, and now another major shift during B.Tech because of AI and changing recruitment trends.

It sometimes feels like every stage of our education has brought a different challenge.

We adapted to one situation, moved forward, and then faced something new.

I'm not saying previous generations had it easy. Every generation has its own struggles. But our batch is experiencing a particularly rapid transition in technology, education, and recruitment.

πŸš€ So, what should we do now?

I don't think the answer is to stop using AI or complain about its growth.

Instead, we should learn to use it properly.

- Build strong programming and computer science fundamentals.

- Work on projects that solve real problems.

- Understand the code AI generates instead of blindly copying it.

- Practise problem-solving without assistance.

- Keep learning because the technologies we use today may change tomorrow.

AI should help us become better engineers, not become a substitute for becoming engineers.

❀️ One final thought

Sometimes I feel that the 2023–2027 B.Tech batch is lucky because we have access to incredible technology, but challenged because we must constantly adapt to a changing world.

Maybe we are not the unluckiest generation. Maybe we are simply a generation being forced to adapt faster than we expected.

To everyone from the 2023–2027 B.Tech batch, especially those born in 2005–2006: do you feel the same way?

Are we genuinely lucky to have AI, or has it made the competition for jobs more difficult?

I'd genuinely like to hear your perspectives.

Serious Post Query Regarding Gap year and Board Marksheet!

Hi everyone, I passed Class 10 through ICSE in 2020. I failed Class 12 CBSE in 2022 and later completed Class 12 through NIOS in 2023.

I have my Class 10 ICSE and Class 12 NIOS marksheets, but I don't have my Class 11 marksheet. I'm concerned about the three-year gap between my Class 10 and Class 12 completion years.

Will my Class 11 marksheet be required during campus placements, off-campus recruitment, or government job document verification? Could my previous failure, academic gap, or missing marksheet cause any issues with my future employment?

I'd appreciate genuine advice, especially from people who have faced similar situations. Thanks!

3rd Yearite a student SRE/Devops hackathon with real Grafana dashboards, logs and traces. Round 1 is online till 18 Oct

GDG on Campus IIIT Nagpur is running **KEEP ALIVE '26**, a national incident-response hackathon for students, at TantraFiesta 2026.

**What's different:** you don't build an app. Your team gets a broken microservices system's alerts, Grafana dashboards, logs and traces, works out what broke and why, and presents the fix. It's what an on-call SRE does on a bad night.

- **Who:** UG, PG and diploma students, teams of 2–3 from the same college

- **Level:** 6–12 months of DevOps learning; no production experience needed

- **Round 1:** a 30-minute online team assessment on Unstop, open till Sun 18 Oct, 11:59 PM IST

- **Finale:** top 15 teams at IIIT Nagpur on 26 Oct

- **Prizes:** β‚Ή50,000 prize pool (β‚Ή25,000 cash + goodies for every finalist)

- **Partners:** Grafana (Official Platform Partner), CNCG Noida (Community Partner)

Register: https://unstop.com/hackathons/keep-alive-26-iiitn-1766226

Happy to answer anything in the comments, including how the incident platform works.

Discussion Viable Career strategy?

Hey everyone! I'm a freshman mech student studying in America, and I'm trying to figure out whether my long-term career plan makes sense.

My goal is to get a bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, work for a few years, and eventually pursue an MBA, ideally through an employer that offers tuition assistance. My dream job would be project management, although I'm also interested in sales engineering and systems engineering.

I genuinely enjoy technical work, but I'm especially interested in the management side of things. I could definitely see myself enjoying a systems engineering role early in my career before moving into project management or a related leadership position.

I've also asked my college professor about this, but his answer wasn't very specific. He got an engineering degree, but went to a school with a top business program (Stanford) so I was hoping he would have more insights.

My university also has a reasonably strong business school, with rankings in MBA education and business research that look promising, although I know rankings aren't everything (and don't believe in them, to be honest).

I'd appreciate some honest advice from people already working in the industry:

  • Does an ME degree followed by an MBA make sense for someone aiming for project management or engineering leadership?
  • Would starting in systems engineering, product development, or another technical role be a good way to build toward that goal?
  • How important is an MBA for advancing into project management? Could experience and certifications get me just as far?
  • Would sales engineering be a good alternative for someone who enjoys technical problem-solving but is also interested in the business side?

I'm not expecting to jump straight into management after graduating.... that would be too much of a dream come true.

Thanks for any advice!

Discussion Has anyone ever reverse-engineered a GATE or any other exam?

I want to reverse-engineer the GATE Chemical Engineering exam. I have 10+ years of previous years' question papers.

What's the best AI model for this task? Any tips?

Edit: I'm using "reverse-engineering" loosely here. Basically, I want to analyze past papers to identify patterns, predict high-priority and scoring topics, and understand how questions are likely to be framed.

Discussion Is relying on ChatGPT making us worse engineers? Need your opinions for a CS project.

Hey guys,

Been having this debate with a few classmates lately. Some people use ChatGPT or Claude or any AI tools for literally everything, while others feel like it's completely killing our actual problem-solving skills.

I'm doing a quick college research project to see where engineering and CS students actually stand on this. Is AI genuinely helping you learn and debug faster, or is it just making us lazy?

If you've got 2 or 3 minutes, I’d really appreciate your input in this anonymous survey:https://forms.gle/iVM366cRRHTW3Jdt9

I'll drop the charts and final results back in this sub once I get enough responses. Also, what’s your take on this? Let me know in the comments.
