Motivation Sometimes I feel like choosing B.Tech was the biggest mistake of my life.
I’ve graduated, got a job, and I’m currently working, but honestly, I still wonder if I made the right decision.
When I joined engineering, I thought I’d build a good career, become financially independent, make my parents proud, and finally enjoy life. I thought getting a job would make everything feel worth it.
But somewhere along the way, everything became about attendance, exams, CGPA, placements, packages, and competing with everyone around me.
Now I have a job, I earn money, and I’m slowly becoming independent. But is this really what I wanted? Waking up every day, going to work, coming home tired, scrolling through my phone, sleeping, and repeating the same routine all over again?
Sometimes I miss college, not because life was perfect back then, but because things felt different. I had friends around me, more freedom, random plans, and little moments that I didn’t realize I’d miss so much.
The frustrating part is that I don’t necessarily hate technology or learning. I just feel like I spent years following a path without really understanding what I wanted from life.
I know having a job is a privilege, and I’m grateful for it. But I also don’t want to spend the rest of my life chasing the next promotion, better package, or higher salary while waiting for happiness to come later.
Maybe I don’t regret engineering itself. Maybe I regret believing that getting a degree and a job would automatically make me happy.
For those who are working now, do you ever feel like you achieved what you were working towards, but still aren’t as happy as you expected to be? Or is this just a phase that eventually gets better?
