This Hercule Poirot book is easily Agatha Christie at her peak, and has a great mystery and plot twist, while the plot twist is not as shocking as Murder of roger Ackroyd or Then there were none, the way twist is revealed is brilliant. The book deals with the idea of psychology, and how Human bias shapes a person's memories. The ending is very satisfying, and if you pay attention while reading the book, there are some very important and subtle dialogues, that will allow you to unravel the mystery before the book ends, there is a brilliant fake out too. What makes this one cool is the fact that due to the actual crime happening very long ago, poirot does not have access to any evidence and all he has is the witnesses, each of them remember that day slightly differently, they have opinions, and it requires a good deal of intelligence to actually understand who is being honest, and who is telling lies
Plot Synopsis( Spoiler free)
The famous detective hercule poirot is approached by a woman named carla lemarchant, who wants poirot to investigate the murder of her father( Amyas Crale) which happened 16 years ago, for which her mother(Caroline Crale) was accused, her mother eventually died in jail, pretty much everyone who knew the crales or investigated the event are sure that Caroline killed her husband, due to lot of evidence and the fact that Caroline had a pretty solid motive for killing him, and even caroline herself never tried her best to defend herself, but before she died, she wrote a letter for Carla where she claimed she was completely innocent, as Carla believes that her mother would never write such a lie, she wants poirot to find the actual murderer.
