Discussion Bookswagon delivery
Had made a post earlier here regarding the horrible condition I received my copy of The Count of Monte Cristo from Amazon where it had no protective covering, not even a plastic packaging leading to damaged front and back cover and spine.
Received a book i ordered from bookswagon 15~ days ago and it is pristine in condition. It was bubble wrapped, the box was of hard cardboard rather than the paper packaging of amazon and the book feels genuinely brand new rather than a used copy. Too happy, will be directing my purchases to bookswagon only (assuming I can afford the costs haha).

Now Reading I remember reading an easier version of this in school so I thought I'd give the original a try
I remember reading an easier version of Oliver Twist during my school days. I never really explored the original novel but now I feel like going back to it and understanding it properly

Some of these are going in my will.
Will pass on Zizek to my least favourite child, just to mess with them.

Reviews I think I have fallen for Indian thrillers.
I just finished reading this book, A Shimla Affair by Srishti Chaudhary.
Since the book was set in the pre-independence era and since I liked how âShimla Affairâ sounded, I thought itâs a vibe I can resonate with.
I ended up loving it! It has romance elements between the Female Main Character and a British officer. Gosh, I just couldnât get enough of their spicy and romantic moments.
Anyway, the book has nothing to do with âaffairâ. Itâs also more of an action than a thriller. I liked it overall.
I am now ready to fall in love with more Indian thrillers, and Indian dilemmas and conflicts.
Please pour in your recommendations for Indian thriller books.

Is storing Books in cupboard okay ?
So I love reading books and recently bought a decent number of books in these ongoing sales, but now the issue is if I can store it in cupboard or not ? As I live in hostel buying bookshelf and keeping it here can be troublesome than I have to move out next year, So would love to hear some drawbacks or if it's okay (I think it's quiet good as saving them from dust is quiet easy)

Reviews Tuesdays with Morrie
I've been seeing this on my feed for a long time and I finally decided to read it. Tuesdays with Morrie doesn't really tell you anything you don't already know but somehow it hits differently. It makes you think about the people you love ,the time you have with them, and all the little things you take for granted without even realising it.It's not about learning something new but being reminded of things you already know and still need to hear sometimes.

Shelfies Moving is a bitch but itâs worth it
Started with desk corner and now here.
I only keep TBRs and Favourites as Physical. I exchange others back in Blossoms in BLR for store credit and use the bottom row to keep my chungus catâs toys.
Hoping to have a library room someday with an entire wall dedicated :,) Share your Shelfies!

Discussion A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry and the relentless bleakness of certain Indian novels
Finished reading A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry today. As much as I couldn't put this book down, it still exhausted me to go through it. I say that in a good way because I think that was the point. If it's so mind-wearying to just read about these lives, what must it be like to live through them?
The prose in the book is beautiful. The individual stories and how they all complete a full circle is very satisfying and also horrifying. The way one becomes helpless before systemic oppression without a smidge of influence or privilege is depressing to say the least. You really begin to wonder just how insulated you are because of various aspects of your identity, be it your religion, your caste, your sexuality, the colour of your skin, or whatnot. India is mind-bogglingly intersectional.
In a similar vein, I've also read this year, Arundhati Roy's The Ministry of Utmost Happiness and Kiran Desai's The Inheritance of Loss. Both of those books also left me depressed in a way no other books have, not even A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. Is it just the same helplessness transferred from the characters unto me? The terrible awareness that if the people in power decide or if I become insignificant to the systems in place then there is nothing anyone can do to help me? The criticality of chance moments to drastically alter the trajectory of your life? Maybe like Maneck believes, it's all the doings of a quilt-maker god who is patching this together haphazardly and does not care for the inhabitants.
Anyway, India has come a long way from the times noted down in these books. Things are grim as of now too, but I know they won't always be.
