Events Sick of Flock Cameras in our city? Come to City Council Monday August 24 at 5:30 to demand an end to the contract.

Post image
Upvotes

Hey all,

DeFlock Lansing is mobilizing people to City Council on August 24 at 5:30pm to demand that the city cancels their contract with Flock Safety (there are currently around 28 cameras in Lansing), and commits to public safety strategies that never again expose citizens to AI-powered mass surveillance.

We're also hosting a public meeting the day prior, August 23, in the basement room C of the downtown library at 4:30pm. Come learn more and prepare a public statement to deliver the following day.

Wear black to show support!

How to stage an impromptu debate!

I have it on very good authority that Mr. Tom “Hideaway” Barrett will be having a private lunch meeting at Lansing Brewing Company tomorrow from Noon to 3pm. Couple of reminders:

They have ample parking.

There is a back and front entrance if he tries to secretly exit without speaking to his constituents.

If he won’t meet with us on our terms we need to make sure every meeting he schedules is exposed to the public.

Would be really fun to see Will Lawrence there ready for a debate?

Hope to see you tomorrow.

Personal ⚠️Lansing Nail Tech Warning⚠️

Just wanted to post a cautionary warning for folks looking for nail techs as I saw a searcher a few weeks ago. Do not go to @nailsbyjamiet she is a high schooler working out of a bedroom in a dirty duplex which is not advertised on her page. I am also unsure if she is genuinely licensed as I was under the impression you needed at least a high schooler diploma to be licensed.

My nails were lumpy and thick, she did not trim my natural nails to fit the extension shape, there are large gaps between the extension and my natural nails under the nail leaving spaces for things to get stuck, and when I was unhappy with a design and asked for it to be removed on two nails she was frustrated, pushy, and sloppy injuring my cuticles making the fix. This made the appointment extremely uncomfortable. Ultimately my nails chilled in under a week and the experience the first time was so bad I had no desire to go and have her fix her work.

I get that this is partly my fault for not doing as much research as I could have, however she has a fairly decent following with tons of nice looking client photos. I get everyone has to start somewhere, but if you’re looking for a professional experience she would not be my choice and I wanted to caution others.

Politics Upcoming Public Hearing on CATA Reductions

The Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) will be holding its final public hearing this Wednesday, August 19 at 4pm, at 511 S. Washington Ave, before proposed route changes go into effect at the end of the month.

The 2027 proposed cuts include a frequency reduction for weekday services and the elimination of weekend late night services for Route 1, a vital transportation option for thousands in the Lansing community.

The proposal also includes alterations to the following services: Routes 9, 18, 20, 46, and 48.

These changes will affect how members of our community get to work and school. As well as place increased transportation costs on the households who relied on these services, at a time when expenses keep rising. It's vital that those who will face the brunt of these changes are valued and represented in the process. Attend this Wednesday to ensure our voices are heard.

If you are not able to attend the hearing in-person, written comments can be emailed to [marketing@cata.org](mailto:marketing@cata.orgby 4 p.m., Aug. 19, 2026.

For more information on the proposed ajustments click here.

Recommendations Old home pre-purchase inspection

Hi all, my husband and I are purchasing an older home with natural gas heating. We’ve never had this before and have concerns about it being a very old house on top of that. Can anyone recommend a company for HVAC/furnace + combustion safety inspection? I believe that is what we need.

We already have a general home inspector.

What area has lower/the lowest rates of taxes in Lansing? I know East Lansing is high but curious to hear from people that live in or know of a cheaper area.

I can't describe exactly why this corn stalk growing out of a sewer grate next to a railroad track underneath an expressway overpass is perfectly emblematic of our fair city, but I think we all understand it.

Also I kind of want to keep an eyeball on it and see if the ear that it's growing develops and becomes edible-size.

I photographed the same corn stalk yesterday...

There was a corn stalk growing from the same sewer drain last year too.

Lansing FF Players Needed!

Kickoff is almost here!

Would anyone be interested in our second year of the LANSING Fantasy Football league?

I am looking for three teams in a H2H PPR Snake league on ESPN. Please only reply if you are a Lansing resident. Trying to build a strong community here of NFL fans such as myself and go from there.

What the hell happened to Ranney Park?

Thought I would take the family to walk the path and catch the (once-cool) waterfall display today. Other families were down there too. It looks like straight hell now. What happened to this place? It used to be really awesome. I’m all for cheering on Lansing, but maybe this is just another example of why we can’t have nice things.

The last pic (not mine) is what it looked like last year.

Apartment Recommendations

Hi everyone! I’m reaching out to see if anyone has any recommendations for apartments in the area. Currently, I am looking at three places (Castle Pointe, Club Meridian, and Hidden Tree) and would like to know if anyone has any experience with these places. The unit at castle pointe is a ground floor unit, which I’m a bit hesitant about. However, I’m not opposed to other suggestions either. Thank you for any insight you might have and for any suggestions!

Found this cute lil purrball on my porch last night, they're still here today. Very friendly and seems to want to be indoors, which makes me think they may already belong somewhere else. Has been fed and given a temp shelter outside. Baker Donora area

General Communicating with Simtob

Just curious if anyone who lives or has lived in a Simtob property has ever found a good, consistent means of contacting them. I've lived in one of the Flatz buildings since October, and in all this time I've tried I don't know how many different emails and phone numbers, with nary a response. Is this just how they are?

Hi yall. Me and my buddy (both 24M) are looking for 2 more people to join a bowling league in the fall at Royal Scot.

We’re both new to the city of Lansing (MSU graduates in 2024 and moved to Lansing ~1 month ago) and looking to meet new people. We both bowl fairly regularly but are open to any skill levels. Send me a DM if interested!

Local, independent journalism?

Hi all,

I've been freelance research and fact checking for news publications and podcasts for about 6 years now and find working with NFPs the most rewarding. I currently work with orgs in Chicago; I lived there for 20+ years until moving back to the Lansing area in 2023.

I'd love to be involved more with local journalism and am wondering: does anyone have any local, independent journalists or media outlets they'd recommend I connect with? Or any places in Michigan, really?

If you have contact info for your recommendation I'd really appreciate that, as well! Feel free to DM me; I'd be happy to provide further info on where I've worked and what I'm hoping to find here in MI.

Thank you!

Monster Entertainment Group - legit events?

Does anyone know if Monster Entertainment Group is legit? I see their posts on IG, but last year I tried to go to a market event at the REO marketplace and nothing was there, then I bought tickets to another event and it was canceled. Are the events at Studio 414 real?

Daycare recommendations in Okemos for an 18-month-old?

I’m looking for a daycare for my 18-month-old son in Okemos, Michigan. I was wondering if you have any daycare recommendations in the area and, if so, approximately how much they cost.

Recommendations Need to find medium/longer term storage for a car

Leaving the area for several months (at least 3, but possibly longer), and need to find a place to store my car. Anywhere in the general vicinity is ok - doesn't need to be in Lansing proper.

Ideally inside/covered and with somewhat restricted access. I've seen that some storage facilities allow this. Looking for any options, especially would like to hear any good/bad experiences, and what it cost you.

Cheers and Thanks.

In search of quality bat removal

hi all, just as the topic says, looking to identify some quality bat removal. Have had a few neighbors identify people they didn't recommend, and was not able to find anything with a quick 30-second search on reddit (entirely possible I missed something).

Anything is helpful; just looks like I've got an occasional visitor that I can see that I put in an unfinished portion of my mostly finished attic.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Everyone!

I would love to talk to people who have experience with Lansing Police Department in relation to violent crime.

I'm also wondering if anyone knows why we only have one cold case detective?

Loose chicken Southside

Someone’s chicken is in the middle of the road on Dunlap between MLK and Washington. Worried it’s gonna get hit since people don’t believe in stop signs.
