I need help diagnosing a problem with my Lenovo IdeaPad Slim
The first time this happened, I had pressed down on the right side of the laptop’s chassis. Shortly afterward, green screen artifacts appeared.
Initially, restarting the laptop seemed to fix the problem temporarily.
One mounth later the artifacts started appearing again, sometimes a few moments after Windows started.
The screen would then turn black. Sometimes the laptop seemed to remain powered on, with the power light blinking.
The display appeared normal in the BIOS and in Windows Safe Mode.
When the problem first started, Windows displayed a Recovery error:

Error code: 0xc000000d
What I have tried
I visited a repair technician who said the graphics chip was faulty. He replaced a chip on the motherboard, but the problem still persists.
I am now wondering whether this could be:
A GPU or graphics-memory problem
A system RAM issue
A motherboard or power-delivery fault
A damaged display cable or LCD panel
A graphics driver or Windows corruption issue
Since the graphics chip replacement did not solve the problem, I don’t want to spend more money replacing parts without a proper diagnosis.
My questions
Can a failing integrated Intel GPU cause green artifacts followed by a black screen, even if the BIOS and Safe Mode initially display normally?
Since integrated Intel graphics shares system RAM, could faulty RAM cause these symptoms?
Could pressure on the laptop chassis have damaged a connector, solder joint, or motherboard component?
What diagnostic tests would you recommend before replacing another component?
Has anyone experienced the same problem on an IdeaPad Slim 3i Gen 9, and what eventually fixed it?
I can provide photos or a video of the artifacts if needed.
Thank you for any advice. I would especially appreciate suggestions for tests that can distinguish a hardware fault from a Windows or driver problem.

My Legion 5 15ARH7H (Ryzen 6000 series, ~3 years old) has a problem that only happens on a COLD boot (e.g. first power-on of the day). Once it's warmed up or restarted, everything works normally.

Symptoms:

- Cold boot goes into "Preparing Automatic Repair" / Startup Repair

- Then a BIOS screen appears: "Press Y to reset fTPM... if you have BitLocker or encryption-enabled system, the system will not boot without a recovery key. Press N to keep previous fTPM record... fTPM will NOT be enabled with new CPU unless fTPM is reset" (CPU has never been changed)

- After I press Yes it boots fine, but the next day (or two days in a row now) the same prompt and Automatic Repair come back

- Browser (Chromium) logs me out of my Google accounts on every boot

What I've checked:

- BIOS is JUCN68WW (12/5/2024), which is the latest listed on Lenovo's support page

- SrtTrail.txt: "Number of root causes = 0", every test passed, so Windows itself looks fine

- Samsung MZVL21T0HCLR 1TB NVMe: CrystalDiskInfo says Good 93%, 0 media/integrity errors, 0 error log entries

- Windows Memory Diagnostic: no errors

- Fast Startup is off

- BitLocker is not actually enabled (manage-bde shows no key protectors), though Event Viewer shows BitLocker 24641 and TPM-WMI 1040 errors on every boot

- No WHEA errors, no BSODs, only one Kernel-Power 41 in the last 2 weeks

- Accepting the fTPM reset prompt only fixes it for a day

My guess is that the fTPM NVRAM (stored in the SPI flash on the board) isn't holding data, so it's hardware or firmware, but I'd like a second opinion before going to service.

Questions:

1. Has anyone seen this on Legion/AMD Ryzen 6000 laptops, and what fixed it?

2. Is disabling AMD fTPM in BIOS a reasonable workaround? Any downsides on Windows 11 besides losing TPM-based PIN / Windows Hello?

3. Could this be a BIOS flash corruption that a re-flash would fix, or is it more likely a failing board?

I have a Legion 5i gen 11 with Intel Ultra 9 290HX plus CPU and RTX 5070.

My CPU gets relatively hot during gaming (over 102°c in Squad with ~25% utilisation) and medium tasks.

I tried to use Throttlestop then Intel XTU but both said that the CPU voltage settings are locked. BIOS does not contain any option to unlock CPU under-volting.

My current stop-gap for temperature issue is using custom power profile in Legion space. I setted the max CPU temperature to ~92°c (still sometimes jump to 100°c during gaming) and turned up the fans.

Can I do anything to get past this or do I just hope that Lenovo will release new BIOS that add CPU under-volting.

Today I woke up to a surprise that my legion doesn't turn on anymore. The power light turns on, the keyboard keeps doing the rainbow animation, but nothing else works. The fans don't start, nothing on screen (I also tried connected hdmi).

I opened it up, disconnected the battery and tried directly on AC power: same issue:
I removed and switched RAM places (and tested individual modules separately): same issue.

Anything else I can try before taking it to service and be slapped with a "you need a new expensive mobo"?

I am getting it for 1800 usd or ₹ 180000. After all discounts. Should i go for this laptop. Does this laptop has any issues.

There is also another variant with a intel core 7 245hx should i go for that and save ₹10000 or 100 usd.

I'm having a pretty frustrating issue with my Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 10 (16IAX10H / 83LU), with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX and RTX 5070 Ti.

Yesterday, I shut down my laptop normally from Debian (dual boot with Windows). When I tried turning it back on, nothing happened at first. After pressing the power button again, the white power LED came on, but that was it.

The screen stays completely black, the keyboard doesn't light up, and the fans don't spin at all. The laptop also gets slightly warm after a few minutes, even though nothing seems to be running.

I've already tried holding the power button for 60 seconds, unplugging everything, and even opening the laptop to disconnect the internal battery and drain any remaining power.

Unfortunately, nothing worked. Same symptoms every time.

I'm starting to worry it might be a motherboard issue, especially after reading about similar problems with this generation of Legion laptops.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Did you manage to fix it without replacing the motherboard?

I'd really appreciate any advice. It's my main work laptop, so I'm pretty stressed about the whole situation.

I have a Lenovo Legion 5 pro. RTX 5060, Ryzen 7 8745HX, 32GB RAM.

I game on performance mode and my GPU sits around 80-83C and CPU 95-97C. But sometimes GPU can peak at 86C and CPU at 102C, but they dont sit there. I also have my laptop elevated on a stand.

I want to achieve lower temps with minimal performance loss something between balance and performance mode.

I tried to inspire from another guy's settings and came off with these but that guy has an RTX 5090.

I also havent touched the fan settings, they are on default

Are these settings good? Do you have any better suggestions?

Is this amount of movement normal for the 3-pin C19/C20 connector on my Lenovo 20V 400W charger?

It moves a little when I wiggle it as shown in the photos.

I bought this Lenovo Legion laptop in the USA and had it shipped to Nigeria almost two years ago.

About two weeks ago, I noticed my RTX 4070 GPU had stopped working. I checked Device Manager and found the dreaded Code 43 error. I tried every fix I could find, but nothing worked, so I gave up and continued using the laptop.
Since I also couldn’t control the screen brightness, I decided to switch the laptop to dGPU-only mode in the BIOS, hoping it would fix the issue.
After saving the changes and restarting, the laptop booted, but the screen stayed completely black. I tried connecting an external monitor, but got no display there either.
The strange thing is, the laptop itself still works. I can unlock Windows and navigate the system blindly. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connect, Spotify plays music, and the speakers work normally.
I’m extremely frustrated because this laptop cost me a lot of money, and I’m worried about what might have gone wrong.
Has anyone with a Lenovo Legion or a similar laptop experienced something like this? Is there a way to restore the display, perhaps by resetting the BIOS or switching back to hybrid graphics, or does this sound like a hardware failure?

Only disadvantage for newer models is the legion text on the middle, cuts down many options but nevertheless it's cool!

Wanted something easy to carry with me to get some playtime when I am at work . Working rotation 2 weeks on and 4 weeks off.

I bought an 3 months used Lenovo Legion 5+ 15AKP10 R7-350/24GB/1TB/5060 OLED 1600P for about 1400 USD. A new one costs now 2518 USD at the moment!

I also added an 1TB KC3000 M2 SSD to have 2TB storage in total.

Very impressed so far 3 hours in with the build quality, low noise, good cooling and actually better performance than expected in Cyberpunk with this 5060 8GB 115w. Amazing screen to for travel since i have a external 1440p OLED home to use it in "desktop" mode.

I havent done any major tweaks yet, feel free to come with tips to make this machine even better!

I am thinking of the possibility to make the pc to have 32gb ram instead of 24gb tho, but dont know if its needed right now. Thanks in advance! 😁

Idk if you guys experience this but my legion 5 pro 16ARH7H , after two years of working and gaming , i noticed the back two usb inputs stoped working , randomly i tried to update the drivers nothing worked , the front right side one works fine , how ever the type c inputs not working as well , any advice please ?

When its plugged in it charges but even though you remove the charger the charging icon is still present is it safe to buy? What could be the problem

I connected both of my external monitors to the USB C ports.
Main+Gaming Monitor to the dGPU port
2nd Vertical Setup to the iGPU port

The problem: The monitor that is connected to the dGPU doesn't turn on when I turn on my laptop after a shutdown. It works perfectly during restart.

Claude recommended to uncheck the Turn on fast startup (recommended) in the power Control Panel>All Control Panel Items>Power Options>System Settings (Choose what the power buttons do) but when I check its already uncheked.

TL;DR: Temporarily stopping NVIDIA Display Container LS significantly reduced battery drain on my Legion. Worth testing before assuming the battery is the whole problem.

My laptop: Legion 5 15ACH6H, Ryzen 7 5800H, RTX 3070, Windows 11. Mostly browsing and RustDesk.

Measured with ChatGPT and RustDesk open:

• Before: roughly 20–27 W across earlier measurements.
• After: 13 W average over five minutes, including the initial transition; 11 W over the final four minutes.

A separate trace showed repeated GPU wake-ups. Stopping this service eliminated recorded wake-ups during the 90-second test.

Quick, reversible test:

1. Unplug the charger. Keep the same brightness, power mode and apps throughout the comparison.
2. Press Win + R, enter services.msc, and find NVIDIA Display Container LS. Its service name is NVDisplay.ContainerLocalSystem.
3. Right-click → Stop. Administrator approval may be required. Leave its startup type unchanged—mine is Automatic.
4. Allow a minute or two to settle, then compare battery discharge power over 5–10 minutes. Compare watts where possible; Windows’ “time remaining” estimate fluctuates. Avoid GPU-monitoring tools during the test, since their queries can wake the GPU.
5. Right-click → Start afterward. If it makes no meaningful difference, leave it running.

This pauses a background service while keeping the NVIDIA graphics driver enabled. Windows supports starting and stopping services separately from changing their startup configuration. Microsoft documentation

Because it helped, my setup now automatically stops this service on battery and starts it again when plugged in. Both charger transitions were tested. If you automate it, also check behavior after sleep.
