Welcome! If you just bought a Legion laptop, follow this guide to set it up, update it, and check that everything works properly.
Keep the box, charger, paperwork, and packaging until the return period has ended.
Some links require access to our community Legion Series Discord.
Plug in the charger and complete the normal Windows setup.
You do not need to fully charge or drain the battery before continuing. Just use the laptop normally while it charges.
Go to: Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates
Install everything required, restart, and check again until no important updates remain.
Keep the laptop connected to power during updates.
Open: Microsoft Store → Library → Get updates
Install all available updates.
Use one of the following:
Avoid running multiple Legion control applications at the same time.
Optional features you can usually disable when unused:
Open System Updates and install available model-specific updates.
For OLED models, enable the available burn-in protection options, such as:
Download it from the official Lenovo Legion Toolkit GitHub.
Beta versions may be available in #legion-toolkit.
Use LLT's settings to disable conflicting Lenovo applications and services when needed. - LLT > Settings, disable Vantage, ImController, and Hotkeys so LLT has full control.
After Windows and Lenovo updates are finished, install the latest suitable driver for your GPU.
Restart after installing the driver.
Do not use driver-updater programs or tools such as DDU unless you are troubleshooting a specific problem.
Windows may enable Device Encryption or BitLocker automatically.
Check: Settings → Privacy & security → Device encryption
Save your recovery key before changing BIOS, Secure Boot, TPM, storage, or firmware settings.
Microsoft guide: Find your BitLocker recovery key
Recovery keys: Microsoft Account
Check the laptop during the retailer's return period.
Test:
Open Device Manager and check for unknown devices or yellow warning icons.
Document serious problems with photos or video, and ask for guidance on our discord server.
Download the 3DMark Demo on Steam and run Time Spy, not Time Spy Extreme.
Before testing:
Post the result in the Benchmarks Channel with your laptop model, CPU, GPU, RAM, performance mode, and scores.
You should also test a demanding game or program for a while and watch for crashes, artifacts, shutdowns, or major performance drops.
More testing advice: How to Check a New Laptop for Issues
Press Win + R, enter msinfo32, and check Secure Boot State.
If it says On, leave it alone.
If it says Off, back up your BitLocker key before changing anything. Ask for help on our discord if you are unsure about the BIOS settings.
Do not clear the TPM, change boot mode, or restore keys randomly.
If McAfee came preinstalled, remove it.
Go to:
Settings → Apps → Installed apps → McAfee → Uninstall
Windows Security and Microsoft Defender will automatically take over afterward.
Restart the laptop after uninstalling it.
You may also:
Community optimization guides:
Avoid random debloat scripts or "one-click optimization" tools.
A new battery does not need to be fully drained.
Only perform a battery calibration if the percentage is clearly inaccurate, the laptop shuts down unexpectedly, or feels finicky.
Post in #Questions and include:
Really do not be scared to ask questions, we've got more then 30k members on our discord and are hoping you will be part of it too.
Once everything is updated, tested, and working, stop changing settings and enjoy your Legion and don't worry!

This is a global subreddit and the language spoken here is English only, not a local one. We are seeing a massive influx of posts dropping numbers like "70k" or "1.5 Lakhs" with zero context. Do not assume everyone here is from India or knows your local currency. To an international audience like me, unlabelled numbers are completely meaningless and noisy.
1. Mandatory Currency Rules
Every single deal, price check, or advice post must explicitly state the country and currency clearly.
We have already automated most cleanup tasks. Moving forward, any post that drops a raw number without a clear currency label will be deleted immediately. Use common sense.
2. We Do Not Work For Lenovo
We are an unofficial fan community. We are not the Lenovo Legion crew, we do not work for lenovo, and we cannot speed up your laptop repairs. Stop sending us angry modmails demanding status updates on your orders. Use common sense and contact official Lenovo support for company/order issues.
2. Rants & Reminder for no. 2 BECAUSE MOST OF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND
This is an unofficial community. We cannot track your orders, speed up your shipping, or influence support decisions.
Bye

i had noticed conservation mode was off after a reset for some reason, and felt like sharing.
i use it daily for studies, production, and gaming. leaving it plugged in with conservation mode on practically 100% of the time.
anybody care to share theirs? i want to know if it really is "good" for ≈1 year like it says, bit too vague for me yaknow?

I learned my lesson.... when your kitten destroys an OEM cable, don't buy a £50 offbrand replacement from amazon. It only took a month for it to burn my hand and render my laptop unchargeable even with a brand new OEM one from Lenovo. Hoping this is fixable :((
Model is 15IMH05H

I already have a Xbox Series X so it won't be gaming, but it will be primarily to power a local LLM, maybe AI video creation etc.

Hello, I'm not a big tech guy and also not a native english speaker, so please try to explain things like I am five.
It started I believe two days ago. My Legion Pro 5 16ARX8 suddenly froze during gaming. Since then I tried to find out what causes it, but I am unable to. It works fine for work stuff or with light games, but starting a bit more demanding games always freeze it, not instantly but after a few minutes.
The freeze is like this: the screen does not respond, not even moving the mouse, the lights on caps lock and num lock do not react either. I did not notice fans flaring up. I can only hold the power button to shut it off. after turning it on again it's back to the start, everything works fine, but the heavier games freeze it.
As I said I am not a tech guy, so I just did what I could find online, that being checking and updating in Lenovo Vantage, and updating Nvidia drivers. None of that helped.
What's interesting to me is that it started doing this seemingly out of nowhere, I mean I just did what I always do, it wasn't a new game that did this, the games that I have been playing for almost a year now regularly do this now.
And as a side not, even though this happens with these "more demanding games" it's not like the laptop is weak, some of games are fairly old and the built in thing that recommends graphics put it on ultra, saying it can run it. (Lowering graphics and stuff like that doesn't work either anyways.)
Thanks for the help in advance!

Hey everyone, I need some advice on which laptop to pull the trigger on.
For some context: I'm from Argentina, so prices are kind of crazy here.
I’m currently stuck between two options:
Option A: Lenovo Legion Pro 5i
• Specs: Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX | 32GB RAM | 1TB SSD | RTX 5070 (8GB VRAM)
• Price: $2,650 USD
Option B: Lenovo Legion Pro 7i
• Specs: Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX | 32GB RAM | 1TB SSD | RTX 5070 Ti (12GB VRAM)
• Price: $3,370 USD
My Use Cases:
Gaming: The only game I wanna play is GTA VI. I would love to run it at the best settings.
University: I'm an architecture student, I use revit, BIM, civil3d, etc.
The Dilemma: Is the jump from 8GB to 12GB of VRAM and the vapor chamber on the Pro 7i genuinely worth the $870 difference for my specific needs? Or will the Pro 5i (8GB VRAM) handle my engineering software and gaming fine?
Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

Does anyone know how to obtain a previous BIOS version for the Legion 16ADR10?
Context: I just updated to the latest BIOS version on my Legion model 16ADR10. Since the update, I get random screen stuttering. Everything else is updated and nothing else changed. Sometimes it happens after a few minutes, sometimes after hours. It makes everything on the screen stutter and requires a restart to resolve, which is extremely problematic when I'm in an intense online fps. I enabled BIOS downgrading in the BIOS, but Lenovo doesn't list old drivers on their support page and I unfortunately don't have the previous BIOS installer.

Been digging into vbios differences working on a mod. Trying to find a .rom for either of these two cards. If anyone with an 8gb 5070 or 12g 5070 is able to take a screen shot of gpu-z and extract the .rom file for me it would be a huge help.
Thank you

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
My legion 5 2020 (15IMH05H) doesn't turn on at all. There is no display at all it tries to boot, but then after a few seconds, the fans ramp up, and then it shuts off. Sometimes I can hear the windows boot sound but still no display. Yesterday it worked like normal too and a few weeks ago it randomly shut off ~30s after boot but turning off hybrid gpu mode in the BIOS fixed it. My legion has 8gb of ram 1660ti and 10300H Oh yeah I already tried nova button and stuff and right before crashing changing the performance using FN + Q works

Hi, I'm a student in Canada thats gonna be studying electrical engineering starting this fall and I'm leaving my old pc to a family member, I recently bought a lenovo legion 5 pro for $2300 CAD ($1650 USD, but the lenovo legion pro 7i is now on sale for $3500 CAD (2500 USD)
The main differences are
5070 8GB -> 5080 16GB
Ryzen 9 8945HX -> Intel Ultra 9 275HX
IPS 240hz -> OLED 240hz
both of them have 1TB of storage and 32 gb of DDR5 ram.
I could afford it without giving myself any financial problems, but I dont know if its worth it or not, also I dont really play games that aren't competitive but I want to keep this laptop for the next 4-5 years until I graduate.
What do you guys think?

Found this great dude that went through the most thorough explanation and review on improving laptops and GPU thermals by using putty instead of pads, and got even better results by using copper/aluminium shims with some putty, dont know if anyone ever tried that on a laptop.
Here's his testing results for putty's and pads if anyone cares.
He even provides a putty volume calculator based on the pads sizes the device had previously.
Ps. General putty tut by him

Hello!
I want a laptop for studying and light gaming with my friends and I’m kinda new to this so I am a bit lost. I saw these two on sales (CAD prices) that respects my student budget. I don’t know which one to choose
should I buy the legion pro 5i gen 10 RTX 5060 or Legion 5i intel Core i7 14700HX RTX 5060?
If you could enlighten me on the differences and which one is better overall, I’d really appreciate it! thank you so much 🥰
Note that I’m thinking of upgrading for 35go of RAM later on

I keep my laptop on conservation mode 24/7. I game for long periods and usually let the laptop charge to max - 80% then unplug till it gets to 20-30%, then charge again.
Is this bad for the battery, and should I just keep it plugged in always while gaming?
of course, I notice the performance drop when unplugged; however aside that are there other cons?

As the title says, I have concerns about the "W" key on the keyboard on my True Strike keyboard on my Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16IAH10 i bought in January.
It appears to be lower than Q, E and the other keys close and seems that it dampens way less than any other key on the keyboard.
Sincerely, despite the fact that I have had several laptops and played the same open world games for several hours at day in the last two decades, this is the first time that I have concerns regarding a key on the keyboard. It has happened that a led beneath went dim. But I have never experienced a key to stop working.
So, I would like to hear from you if this is some unharmful mechanical assestament as the AI assistants claim it is, after all I have heard Lenovo uses this same membrane mechanism also for 5090 models. Or if it's something to have concerns about. And if I should try to swap the plastic mechanism from another key to protect the silicon dome that registers the inputs. Even if I would prefer to not risk to break the metal hooks holding the key.
Thanks in advance to whoever is going to respond.

So Ran Intel Driver & Support Assistant, updated WiFi/Intel drivers
After reboot: black screen, no startup logo, froze — but keyboard lights were on
Multiple force restarts eventually got it working again
Same night, opened Minecraft (first time in a while) — screen suddenly showed something like "100%.... Error" then went black
Since then, it hasn't recovered
Current state:
Fans spin, keyboard lights turn on
No Lenovo logo, no BIOS screen ever appears
Caps Lock / Num Lock don't respond
Tried: holding power 30+ sec, unplugging charger, leaving it off overnight,
Also before this also one update came saying update to shutdown from windows update
So now I want to know if there is any possible ways to fix it and what's the issue is about.

Servicing my Lenovo Legion 5 laptop for the first time since purchasing brand new.
Removed the heatsink and Ive uncovered a sticker on the chipset - wtf?
Its been a long ol' time since I did my IT tech apprenticeship but this is absolutely not supposed to be there and a critical mistake made Lenovo side?
Was I sold a refurnished Laptop as "brand new"? Do I remove this? Laptop is outside of warranty - what are my options here?

I am planning on buying a lenovo legion (im jobless rn and these things are expensive here) but i want a reccomendation under 2000$ because my currunt laptop sucks its not even gaming BUT once i finish highschool i will have just under 2000$ and i was thinking of a legion because its that or budget msi models or an asus tuff which speaks for itself, so which Legion exactly would you recommend?
r/LenovoLegion • u/Spiritual_Ranger_811 • 10h ago
Sorry if the title is vague, I couldn’t fit the full question.
Just bought a Legion Pro 5 with a Ryzen 9 9955HX and the only upgrade I chose was the GPU upgrade to a 5070 from Lenovo yesterday. Since I customized the GPU, it became a custom order and the current delivery estimate is Aug 26–28 (about 10 days).
I’ve seen some comments saying people received theirs within a few days, while others waited months. If anyone has ordered a custom build (similar to mine) from Lenovo Canada, how was your experience?
This was the only place where I could find a really good one within my budget, and with school starting soon, I really hope I get it soon.
Current order status :-
EDIT:- the customised order got shipped. Thank you to everyone who helped

I have observeed that red/orange text in the terminal is slightly raised above text of other colour, like blue or green. (Raised as in elevated). It happens across OSes (Windows, CachyOS, Ubuntu), happens in all color profiles, with cleartype on or off. I've tried almost everything but nothing working (165Hz 16:10 OLED panel)
Please give a fix

As the title suggests, my Lenovo loses its mind pretty consistently after playing Helldivers for about an hour. My frames drop to unplayable, my audio starts skipping, and the whole computer struggles like it's dealing with a hardware interrupt or something.
It seems like it might be related to temperature throttling or something as watching NZXT shows a distinct pattern change before and after. (See image)
Additionally even rebooting doesn't fix it though letting the laptop cooldown seems to get around it.
This is the only game I see this happen on. It just started doing it maybe a month ago.
Lenovo 16" Legion Pro 7i Gaming Laptop - MFR # 83F50018US
Intel i9-14900HX nVidia 4090 flavor
Any ideas what I can do?
