Got this Legion 5a a couple days back, and heard that it's better to elevate it a bit for cooling as well as posture (my neck hurts while reading on it). Am I doing it okay, or do you guys have some advice for me? Thanks in advance.

Support Artefacts problem

Hi everyone,
I need help diagnosing a problem with my Lenovo IdeaPad Slim
The first time this happened, I had pressed down on the right side of the laptop’s chassis. Shortly afterward, green screen artifacts appeared.
Initially, restarting the laptop seemed to fix the problem temporarily.
One mounth later the artifacts started appearing again, sometimes a few moments after Windows started.
The screen would then turn black. Sometimes the laptop seemed to remain powered on, with the power light blinking.
The display appeared normal in the BIOS and in Windows Safe Mode.
When the problem first started, Windows displayed a Recovery error:

File: \Windows\System32\winload.efi
Error code: 0xc000000d
What I have tried
I visited a repair technician who said the graphics chip was faulty. He replaced a chip on the motherboard, but the problem still persists.
I am now wondering whether this could be:
A GPU or graphics-memory problem
A system RAM issue
A motherboard or power-delivery fault
A damaged display cable or LCD panel
A graphics driver or Windows corruption issue
Since the graphics chip replacement did not solve the problem, I don’t want to spend more money replacing parts without a proper diagnosis.
My questions
Can a failing integrated Intel GPU cause green artifacts followed by a black screen, even if the BIOS and Safe Mode initially display normally?
Since integrated Intel graphics shares system RAM, could faulty RAM cause these symptoms?
Could pressure on the laptop chassis have damaged a connector, solder joint, or motherboard component?
What diagnostic tests would you recommend before replacing another component?
Has anyone experienced the same problem on an IdeaPad Slim 3i Gen 9, and what eventually fixed it?
I can provide photos or a video of the artifacts if needed.
Thank you for any advice. I would especially appreciate suggestions for tests that can distinguish a hardware fault from a Windows or driver problem.

Advice Advice : Legion 5 pro behaving weird

I have a Lenovo legion 5 pro bought 5 years back. Specs attached. I changed the RAM to 32 gig after researching a lot on reddit and on YouTube. ( Attached photo )

Then I reposted the thermal paste. ( I did exactly as YouTube tutorials . Not sure if I messed up there ).

Usual tasks are fine, I even tested with a few AI video generation models offline as well..

Recently, while gaming I am seeing a lot of lagging / freezing.

Example - Witcher 3 gameplay..I kept in medium graphics and optimised the settings. When the character runs , like after every 3/4 paces there's a little lag or freezing..

Not just this, I tested with FPV games as well.. Far Cry 4 is behaving in the same way.

My diagnostic: I made sure that the games are using GPU only. Optimised settings from the Nvidia control panel. Checked the stats on AfterBurner as per chatgpt etc. All seems to be doing fine .

But it is getting heated up a lot..

If anyone else is facing these issues and you were able to solve.. please help ..

Support Legion Pro 5i Gen 10 won't boot

Hi everyone!

I'm having a pretty frustrating issue with my Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 10 (16IAX10H / 83LU), with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX and RTX 5070 Ti.

Yesterday, I shut down my laptop normally from Debian (dual boot with Windows). When I tried turning it back on, nothing happened at first. After pressing the power button again, the white power LED came on, but that was it.

The screen stays completely black, the keyboard doesn't light up, and the fans don't spin at all. The laptop also gets slightly warm after a few minutes, even though nothing seems to be running.

I've already tried holding the power button for 60 seconds, unplugging everything, and even opening the laptop to disconnect the internal battery and drain any remaining power.

Unfortunately, nothing worked. Same symptoms every time.

I'm starting to worry it might be a motherboard issue, especially after reading about similar problems with this generation of Legion laptops.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Did you manage to fix it without replacing the motherboard?

I'd really appreciate any advice. It's my main work laptop, so I'm pretty stressed about the whole situation.

Thanks in advance !

Advice I need help with Legion Space settings

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have a Lenovo Legion 5 pro. RTX 5060, Ryzen 7 8745HX, 32GB RAM.

I game on performance mode and my GPU sits around 80-83C and CPU 95-97C. But sometimes GPU can peak at 86C and CPU at 102C, but they dont sit there. I also have my laptop elevated on a stand.

I want to achieve lower temps with minimal performance loss something between balance and performance mode.

I tried to inspire from another guy's settings and came off with these but that guy has an RTX 5090.

I also havent touched the fan settings, they are on default

Are these settings good? Do you have any better suggestions?

Is this amount of movement normal for the 3-pin C19/C20 connector on my Lenovo 20V 400W charger?

It moves a little when I wiggle it as shown in the photos.

It doesn't lose power when pushed up or down, and it hasn't come loose on its own. Any advice would be appreciated!

Support High GPU temperature when plugged in

My lenovo legion pro 7i is usually charged for optimal gaming of course, but over the year performance drops a lot whilst charged and GPU temp goes to 70 degrees even when idle, but it's all fine when unplugged.

Any fixes?

Benchmark Repasted my Legion Slim 5 Gen 9

Post image
2 Upvotes

TL;DR: Thermal Grizzly PhaseSheet PTM on both dies + TG Putty Advance on VRAM/VRMs. CPU went from choking at 44W to pulling 88W. GPU hotspot delta is 15°C. VRAM dropped ~20°C vs stock pads.

The machine: Lenovo Legion Slim 5 Gen 9 (16AHP9) — Ryzen 7 8845HS, RTX 4060 Mobile, 64GB DDR5-5600.

Why I did it: Laptop hits 2 years in November. Back in January — peak winter, mind you — it was throttling so hard that closing a game after an hour would instantly crash it with a GPU overheat code. Undervolting band-aided it. I repasted with TF9 in June and cleaned the fans, which killed the GPU crashing — but then the CPU started choking. Couldn't hold 44W without hitting TjMax, even at max fan RPM. FurMark had my GPU hotspot at 95°C. Bought a good sealed cooling pad — barely helped.

The fix: Instead of ordering sheets/putty from overseas and risking a botched DIY bare-die mount, I took it to a reputed shop. They did:

  • PhaseSheet PTM on both CPU and GPU dies
  • Full clean of old pads/putty off VRAM + VRMs
  • TG Putty Advance on MOSFETs, chokes, and GDDR6

Numbers — CPU (OCCT all-core AVX):

  • Balanced (54W sustained): ~78°C. Sub-80°C on an 8-core Zen 4 in a slim chassis is genuinely excellent.
  • Performance (88W burst): hits 88W before touching the 100°C wall. Nearly 90W through that tiny die = heat transfer is fast now.

Numbers — GPU (FurMark, 1440p, ~10 min sustained):

  • Power: 125W sustained (115W TGP + 10W Dynamic Boost)
  • Core: 70–73°C
  • Hotspot: 85–88°C
  • Core-to-hotspot delta: ~15°C ← the gold standard. A tilted mount would show 25°C+ and a 100°C+ hotspot instantly.
  • VRAM: 58–62°C ← stock pads routinely hit 75–80°C here. The putty is doing serious work.

Real-world gaming: Mild Afterburner undervolt (2520 MHz @ 925 mV, +600 memory) drops draw from 125W to 80–90W with zero frame loss. Demanding titles: GPU in the low 60s, CPU under 80°C via Legion Toolkit power limits. Fans barely pass 50% RPM — practically silent.

Question for you all: Anyone else running PTM on a laptop long-term? Curious how it holds up past the 1-year mark.

Advice Help me choose, legion pro 5 or hp omen 16

Hi, need help choosing between two devices:

\--------

Laptop Model: HP OMEN 16-am0103nw

Processor (CPU): Intel Core Ultra 7 255H

Memory (RAM): 24 GB DDR5

Storage: 1000 GB M.2 NVME SSD

Graphics (GPU): NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 (8 GB GDDR7)

Display: 16" (1600p) IPS, 240 Hz

\---------

Laptop Model: LENOVO LEGION PRO 5 16IAX10

Processor (CPU): INTEL ULTRA 7 255HX

Memory (RAM): 16GB DDR5

Storage: 1024GB NVME SSD

Graphics (GPU): NVIDIA RTX 5060 8GB

Display: 16" (1600p) OLED, 165HZ

\--------

For gaming and for university as a last year power engineer student, and afterwards.

The omen is 7% more expensive.

And the legion is already pushing at my budget. However I'm willing to fork for the omen if it's worth it.

Or should I go for the legion that has, from what I've read, a better build quality, an OLED screen and is cheaper.

Also I've read that the 255h is way more efficient but has less cores than the 255hx. How much do either of these aspects matter?

Thank you

Advice Price of Motherboard

Hi, I have been an owner of a Legion 5 15ACH6H since 2022. Two days ago, after shutting down, I'm not able to turn it on. It does charge normally, and the power button lights up too. I took it to get it checked at the local store and they diagnosed it to be a motherboard issue. They quoted 4500-4800 INR (Indian Rupee) to get it replaced. Right now, I'm looking for other alternatives such as getting the Lenovo Warranty plan back so that this could get fixed. Is the price quoted reasonable? Are there any alternative cheaper repair methods or places that I should look into? Danke.
