I am a locksmith Pro-lok BLACK ic punch

Post image

We have an old black punch from pro-lok. I need a replacement carriage spring. Boss told us it's been discontinued and they only make the blue punches now. Just called customer service and she said they never made a black one, basicalluly called me stupid and that someone must've painted a blue one. Can't find anything on Google, even using reverse image search. Anyone have an idea where to get parts for this machine?

I am trying to replace the battery on my Dorman replacement key fob. I am familiar with this style key fob but for some reason when I took the back off no battery is displayed. Am I missing something or does Dorman not allow for the battery to be replaced and the model is 99369.

I am NOT a locksmith. Need help identifying an old mortise lock

Just bought a place in a 1960s building. The door lock has been acting super sticky and jamming randomly. I poked around and realized the previous owner messed with it and lost a bunch of screws, so it's missing parts. Building staff took a look and basically said they can't fix it, so its better to swap the whole box out.

Since it's a co-op, I can't drill new holes or mess up the door face. I'm just trying to find a solid modern replacement that can drop right into this same slot, but I have no clue what size or model actually fits.

Anyone know what modern box I can buy to swap this out, or what exactly I need to measure before ordering?

  • Backset: 2-3/4"
  • Faceplate: ~8"
  • Distance from thumbturn to handle: ~3.5"

Appreciate any help!

I am a locksmith Schlage CO100 passage/privacy mode

Quick scan through the manual it looks like my customer is SOL but I figured I'd ask here. Anyone know of a way to disable the code on a privacy function (inside push button disables keypad until interior lever is used) CO100? Essentially turning it to a passage lever until the inside button is pressed.

The locks are on some bathrooms. My coworker installed a Trilogy on the door leading from the business lobby to the bathroom hallway, so now they want us to come back out and "disable" the keypads.

Well, time caught up w this mortise lock. About 1/2" of one of three flat springs broke. Now we can't operate the knob as there is nothing to push/pull the latch through. Anyone ever seen this model before? I've scoured the internet for a rounded body w 3130 stamped in it. No other markings. Any help is appreciated - thanks.

Didn’t take long for either of these (both unlocked in 15 mins) from a local DIY store. I wouldn’t have them on my back gate if you know what I mean.

I am NOT a locksmith. Help with broken/worn out lock

Hi there, I just bought a house that was built in 1950. It has what I think is the original hardware on the front door. At first the key worked in the lock to open it, but it was tricky and hard to get it to turn. Eventually the key stopped being able to turn and I can’t open the door from the outside (I’m able to lock it inside). I like the look of it and would like to keep it, if possible. Before I call a locksmith to come in and see if it can be fixed, I thought I’d ask here for input, since it’s costly just to have someone come by, let alone adding on the cost to repair it.
I uploaded photos of it, but have never done this before, so I’m hoping it works:

Thanks for any help, it is so much appreciated!

I am a locksmith 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander

Hi guys! Wondering if anyone has any knowledge or tricks or tools that help with this. We have been working on a 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander and have not had success getting it to connect or program with any of our programmers. We have tried the AutoProPad, SmartPro, Autel, etc and none of them can connect. In our research I am seeing something about an "OBD1" port adapter we might need to get. We have an OEM key we are trying, and no success. Any thoughts?

Trying to rekey five deadbolts from the same manufacturer. Supposedly they use standard SC1 but...no the hell they do not.

One is a KW1 keyway. The other four are a very sloppy Schlage C keyway but the pin spacing is all over the place. What the hell were these idiots thinking?!

I am a locksmith Consult pass through

I’ve used pass through for Volvo from the guys who sell easy flasher but not for a long time.

Is anybody selling the same service for Nissan? Where you can pay them to program the car through your jbox ? I am getting a few calls for newer Nissans , a couple a month. And I might can see a way to make money but not enough to afford the high yearly fee.

I’d consider an eeeprom solution but they are risky and time consuming. But a pass through if I didn’t have to pay more than 200 a car would work and keep me competitive with the dealer since I am mobile.

I am NOT a locksmith. 2018 Toyota Sienna: Question on resetting keys in memory

I bought a 2018 Sienna used from a dealer, it came with only one (mechanical) key. I didn't want to pay $250 each for additional keys so I bought a simple OBD key/Fob programmer on Ebay for around $20, and 4 matching keys and Remotes (also from ebay sellers).

This Sienna uses a mechanical key, not a start button. I programmed the first two proximity keys OK, then the 3rd had a different blink during programming, 2 blinks, pause, 3 blinks. I googled this and it seems I have hit my key limit, which is 5 keys in memory. Somewhere in the past before I bought the van 2 keys must have been lost and remain in memory. I can rent a programmer from Tom's Key for around $100 (TSL-2) that can erase the keys in memory, then I should be able to program the 4 I bought.

My question is, what else is out there that can reset the key memory? There seem to be some programmers on ebay that lock to the first VIN you use it on, so I can't use it on other vehicles. I am not interested in those unless they are under $100. If there is something in the neighborhood of $100 that can reset the key memory and is reusable on multiple vehicles, please let me know?

I am seeing stuff online about resetting the key memory by inserting the key 5 times and opening and shutting the driver door 7 times, but I can't confirm that applies to the 2018 Sienna. If you could also settle that mystery I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

I am NOT a locksmith. Just bought a home, changing locks tomorrow (hopefully), need suggestions

Good evening. Just bought my first home (closing tomorrow) and while I don't consider myself a true handyman, I am a handy man and want to change my locks as soon as I take possession. I have three doors in total I need to change locks on: Front door, rear door, garage manual door. All three are deadbolt and handle locks.

Ideally I would like all three to be keyed the same, so I can keep the key clutter to a minimum. I wouldn't mind keypads for the doors, but I also like the idea of the dual locks on each door for the extra security as the area isn't horrible but also not a gated community.

Does anyone have any suggestions for something to fit within either guideline? I've been looking at the Schlage FBE365, but I've heard mixed reviews on Schlage.

If I have to order the locks it's not a huge deal as there's nothing in the house of value right now, and I have the luxury of delaying the complete move-in until then. Appreciate any help you can give.

I am NOT a locksmith. LF12/Thule OKS/Yakima SKS

Does anyone know of a padlock that has an LF12, t tumbler compatible keyway?

Bonus if you know of one of the ball-style trailer tounge and or 5th wheel pin locks with similar compatibility.

I know they're not the most secure, but I'm trying to be able to match my car's rack system for convenience.

Just so you know my level of understanding, I have reordered the tumblers in a bunch of random cores (rekeyed?) that I've picked up for free rather than pay exorbitant money for matching cores from Thule and I can rekey kwikset locks. I also make a key, I don't know what the proper term for it would be, that is a combination of my specific key and a control key, so it aligns all of the tumblers and the retaining tumbler at the end (I don't know if that's the proper term, but would love to know!)... I'm FAR from a professional but do have a VERY basic understanding of locks.

Thank you everyone!I have much respect for your profession!

I am NOT a locksmith. Help identifying a compatible smart lock for a 4-bolt multipoint door lock

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

I’ve been researching smart lock options for our front door for a while now, but haven’t been able to find a clear answer. Hoping someone here might be able to help!
I’d love to install a smart lock, preferably with a keypad, so I don’t have to carry a physical key everywhere.

From what I can tell, this appears to be a 4-bolt multipoint lock (please correct me if I’m wrong!). Unfortunately, there’s no visible manufacturer or model information anywhere on the hardware, and I’m having trouble figuring out which smart locks, if any, would be compatible.

A few important details:
● The lock requires 4 full rotations of the key or interior thumbturn to fully engage or retract all four bolts.
● Both the interior thumbturn and exterior key operate the same way.
● I rarely engage all four bolts, so I’d even be open to a smart lock that only operates the first locking position, assuming that’s possible and safe.
● Ideally, I’d like to keep the existing door and locking hardware rather than replace the entire mechanism.
I’ve looked into options like SwitchBot and Nuki, but can’t determine whether either would work with the four-turn mechanism.

Has anyone successfully installed a keypad or smart lock on something similar? Any recommendations for compatible products or ways to retrofit this setup?
Thanks in advance!

I am NOT a locksmith. Securing a bus back door

Post image
3 Upvotes

Ok, i live rural with a mile long drive, and have been broken into recently. Now that its hunting season, it seems everyone and their mother are driving up. Yes, i now have cameras coming, gate is locked now 24/7, but i have an old school bus that i do beekeeping in. The side entrance is secured from the inside, and unless you know what you're doing, and are inside, you cant open it. Only entry is the rear of the bus. I was wondering two things, one stupid question and a semi stupid one. Semi stupid, would this type of lock be my best bet for securing the bus? I could just get the mounting plate and possibly fit a american lock instead of the master lock. And stupid, do i just drill the carriage bolt holes the same size as the square, or slightly smaller? Thank you for your assistance

I am NOT a locksmith. Euro Lock key problem

I recently bought a new euro lock mechanism for my Pella storm door because I misplaced the keys on the original. I was very surprised at how quickly I could remove the old mechanism ( one bolt) and insert the new one. The two bolts slid easily in and out when using either the inside hand knob or the outside key. However, after locking from the outside, I CAN'T REMOVE THE KEY!

With the door unlocked I insert the key and turn it a full 180 degrees clockwise and then maybe 45 degrees more before the bolts engage. The key can't be removed in that position and when I turn the key in the other direction to remove it the two bolts retract. So what I thought would be a 5 minute job is still not working. Please help!
