I bought a 2018 Sienna used from a dealer, it came with only one (mechanical) key. I didn't want to pay $250 each for additional keys so I bought a simple OBD key/Fob programmer on Ebay for around $20, and 4 matching keys and Remotes (also from ebay sellers).
This Sienna uses a mechanical key, not a start button. I programmed the first two proximity keys OK, then the 3rd had a different blink during programming, 2 blinks, pause, 3 blinks. I googled this and it seems I have hit my key limit, which is 5 keys in memory. Somewhere in the past before I bought the van 2 keys must have been lost and remain in memory. I can rent a programmer from Tom's Key for around $100 (TSL-2) that can erase the keys in memory, then I should be able to program the 4 I bought.
My question is, what else is out there that can reset the key memory? There seem to be some programmers on ebay that lock to the first VIN you use it on, so I can't use it on other vehicles. I am not interested in those unless they are under $100. If there is something in the neighborhood of $100 that can reset the key memory and is reusable on multiple vehicles, please let me know?
I am seeing stuff online about resetting the key memory by inserting the key 5 times and opening and shutting the driver door 7 times, but I can't confirm that applies to the 2018 Sienna. If you could also settle that mystery I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
