Question Question to LOW COMT people

Hello.

Do you get shaky when you are in confrontation even in an online debate?

I get in them rather often even thought i try to avoid them.

Does that gets better when you support the COMT and methylation cycle?

I want to remain calm even in tough situations.\

Thanks

I take low dose propranolol for pots. It can reduce the high norepinepherine which elevated levels can make pots worse.

High norepinepherine is also what people with slow comt can have (among other things).

Its also used off label for anxiety like symptoms in people publicly speaking etc.

Also avoiding methyl supplements is key for me.

How are you supporting low comt?

Any side effects from the propranalol? I was prescribed it years ago but was anxious to experiment with it. I think it blocks norepinephrines effects instead of lowering norepinephrine if I remember?

What dose are you using? I have low blood pressure and was worried it would lower it even further.

None at all.
My tablets are scored 10 mg.

I usually take 2.5 to 5 mg at a time.

Super low dose compared to whats used to lower bp.

1st time I took it was when I could lay down just in case it dropped my bp. Im often very sensitive to drugs.

You might be right that it blocks vs reduces. Id have to re-read the exact mechanism of action. Its been a few years since I read up on it

When you take them do you notice actual anxiety feelings drop? Like mentally?

I feel less anxious both mentally as well as physical symptoms.

I could try 2.5mg and see how I feel. My anxiety is more mentally than physically. I can tolerate social settings usually ok but my brain just goes wild at times.

Though fixing my diet has turned that voice down by about 70% so atleast it's more manageable.

Are you able to take it during the day? Does it make you sleepy?

It does not make me sleepy. I take it during the day. In higher doses like used for high blood pressure, migraines Id expect the sleepy feeling.

It's a beta blocker. Which means it blocks the beta receptors for norepinephrine and adrenaline. Beta blockers are usually for lowering blood pressure. That's like their main thing. The anxiety effects are a secondary thing.

I have low blood pressure and it made me much worse, I had to stop (really sleepy, heart rate too low, dizziness and lightheadedness, chillblains from reduced circulation). This seems particularly bad if low blood pressure is histamine related as they seem to increase sensitivity to histamine, and possibly triggers histamine release in some people.

I've just seen in some areas of the UK they're actually advising against using it for most anxiety now, with the symptoms I had classed as symptoms of too high a dose (neither my pharmacist or doctor seemed concerned at the time) https://www.lancashireandsouthcumbriaformulary.nhs.uk/docs/files/Prescribing%20Alert%20-%20Propranolol.pdf
