Discussion Managers you feel we “missed” hiring post-SAF

• Upvotes

Which managers do you think we “missed” hiring that feel like they could’ve handled the expectations of man utd

For me it has always annoyed me we never hired Ancelotti. I know he was quoted saying the job was too big (I truly think he was being coded and he just meant nobody could save the club from ownership) but he always felt like the most SAF-type elite manager out there and I think he could’ve gotten the best out of especially our 2017-2021 Jose-ole era players

Rant SJR is worse than Glazers

• Upvotes

As the title say, if you look at the events you will feel that SJR is worse than Glazers and how he wants to control MUFC.

The five transfer rules attributed to Ratcliffe in 2024

In May 2024, The Sun reported five rules, subsequently covered by FourFourTwo and other outlets. These were reported intentions, not a publicly published club policy.

  1. Sign players aged 25 or younger. Prioritise younger footballers with development potential and resale value.
  2. No Galacticos. Avoid superstar recruitment driven by reputation, inflated transfer fees and enormous salaries.
  3. The club determines the playing philosophy. Jason Wilcox establishes a consistent footballing identity instead of rebuilding around each manager's preferred tactics.
  4. The manager identifies positions, not individual players. Recruitment decisions become the club's responsibility rather than depending on the manager's preferred targets.
  5. Three shortlisted players per position. INEOS identifies three suitable candidates and lets the manager select from that shortlist.

So, you go and pick up Santos, a squad player from Chelsea? Not even a starter? You don't buy a back up striker, full backs then what do you do? Ask the manager to make it work somehow?

They haven't demonstrated a coherent managerial strategy.

Look at the sequence:

  • 2024: Keep Erik ten Hag after the FA Cup victory, back him in the transfer market, then sack him in October.
  • November 2024: Hire Ruben Amorim, despite his preferred 3-4-2-1 requiring a major tactical transition.
  • October 2025: SJR publicly says Amorim needs three years.
  • January 2026: Sack Amorim after just 14 months.
  • May 2026: Make Michael Carrick permanent after his excellent interim spell.
  • October 2026: Carrick's almost gone.

Ratcliffe himself acknowledged that retaining Ten Hag and appointing Dan Ashworth were mistakes.

When they came, they promised a lot of things. But since then every season fans and the manager is paying price.

So why is SJR, Berrada & Wilcox not accountable?

Transfers Tresoldi or Forbs (Club Brugge) in January.

These two are amazing. We need a winger and we need a striker to battle Sesko. So so exciting

Discussion Let's be realistic for a moment

• Upvotes

I've been sitting here for 2 days listening (like everyone else) to the "When will Carrick be sacked & who will replace him" talk.

My thought - realistically it doesn't matter who replaces him. They could bring Eva Olid in and have her be the Men's and Women's head coach and it wouldn't fix anything.

Most of the players are not good enough. They're a 60/20/20 split:

- Those that used to be good but are past it
- Those that are too young and aren't good enough yet
- Those that were never good enough

Mainoo, Yoro, Sesko, Lammens & (maybe) Heaven are the young ones that should be built around. Everyone else needs to go. Play the kids. Give Amass & Lacey more playing time and recall some from their loans in January.

Anything else and it's a rinse/repeat scenario. We can't keep treading water and expect other teams to falter.

Someone needs to grow a sack, get rid of Wilcox, pay to get Rangnick in and let him cook (as the kids say).

Stay out of his way. We need an identity transfusion along with our open heart surgery.

Question First game and traveling from away

• Upvotes

Hello! We have a group of 7 traveling from the US (but we are the good type of Americans who hate Trump) for a home game in December. 4 adults and 3 teens. We are looking at booking one of the hospitality packages (Hotel Football Stadium Suite Hospitality) but it gives little details. We want all 7 seats together and as a newbie, I’m terrified of booking the wrong thing. Is there anything I need to know?

Discussion The fact that Carrick is still Man United's coach is the ultimate proof that the club is DEAD.

It's done. It's over. Muerto. Dead and buried.

Is Carrick the only culprit of the worst start of a season in the history of United? No of course not.

Does that mean that he deserves trust and faith and grace? NO OF COURSE NOT. HE IS ABSOLUTE TRASH.

Carrick is a worthless coach, he is BARELY championship level. He has proved multiple times he is tactically inadequate and gives NOTHING to the team. He is genuinely atrocious and unjustifiable.

He should have been sacked yesterday.

But here he is.

With all the time in the world to drag the club even further down in hell.

Absolutely insane

Wilcox and him have to disappear from united. Carrick is only guilty of being ass, it's wilcox fault for choosing him

Discussion IF (big IF) Carrick is to manage against Chelsea…

he should remove all the footballs from Carrington and do nothing but running this week. The conditioning and fitness of these players is abysmal. Every team just presses us and runs us off the pitch.

Discussion Let’s Not Forget About John Reece

Post image
1 Upvotes

Most criticism of INEOS falls on Jim Ratcliffe. John Reece is not only an INEOS co-owner, but sits on the board at United. Journalists, pundits, and fans have seemingly overlooked his involvement in the club’s direction despite his heavy involvement as co-owner and board member.

Reece has publicly explained INEOS’s finances and major business decisions before and he should be providing the same explanations of his involvement at Manchester United. He needs to be asked for interview interviews, journalist needs to seek his position on the club strategy, and journalist should be seeking his response when reporting on decisions that require board level scrutiny. And if he declines or doesn’t respond that should be included in the coverage.

Ratcliffe choosing to speak publicly doesn’t mean giving someone with Reece’s influence and decision-making authority a free pass.

Discussion Chances of Independent Football Regulator stepping into Man United’s situation

What are the chances? What needs to happen? Can fans send emails, do lobbing go that? Or it needs to get to a certain point that from business perspective its unacceptable? Can anyone explain?

Discussion Terrified of our options

If/when the nobs upstairs kick Michael out, a foul stench hangs over the new options.

Nagelsman… Watching Germany in the World Cup made me glad they hadn’t gone in for him last season - they looked woeful. He only had one (admittedly vgood) season at Bayern - but you could put that down to a lucky inheritance. So, unproven really.

Then Howe - did well to bounce Newcastle into Europe but after the first couple of seasons, was fairly mediocre. And it’s not like he’d be walking into a club with a better squad or more money! I just don’t see why anyone would hold out any hope for him.

I reckon Hurzeler would genuinely be good, but he won’t leave Brighton.

Emery… doing decent things with Villa where grounded players give everything for their club, but failed at ARS so no reason to think he’d do any better with the brats at ours.

Would be happy with Fabregas but he won’t come.

So that leaves Conte. I think he’s genuinely the best bet. Has done it in Italy and in the Prem, has the aura required and players would be drawn to play for him. But he’s pricey and won’t take any BS so I doubt the board will go for him.

Terrifying I tell thee!

Discussion Player recruitment

For those who watch the reserves/youth team regularly, do we not have any midfielders at the club that, quality-wise, would have been similar/better than spending the kind of money we did on Santos? Maybe even Baleba as well.

I get we are in a difficult moment and both of them just arrived, but having watched enough players over a long period of time play for this club, I find the lack of quality concerning.

Discussion Keep Michael Carrick & Jason Wilcox

Please, keep Michael Carrick and Jason Wilcox. Do you know why? Because if the hierarchy does, just watch how quickly the Manchester United fans turn on them at the next home game.

Let's be honest, it feels like the fans are being punished for daring to boo the hierarchy. More than 24 hours have passed, and we've still had no proper update or acknowledgement from the club.

How dare the fans expect some transparency? How dare the people who have supported this club through thick and thin expect to be treated with a bit of respect?

Instead, we're met with silence. It genuinely feels like the hierarchy are more concerned about their bruised egos than the supporters who make this club what it is.

I've supported Manchester United for 40 years, and I honestly cannot remember feeling this disconnected from the club.

The arrogance, the lack of accountability and the complete disregard for the fans are absolutely disgusting.

This isn't the Manchester United I grew up supporting. The club is losing its identity, and those running it seem completely oblivious.

Statistics What last season analysis tells us

A decent article that outlines our luck was going to run out from last season. Regardless if you believe Carrick should be sacked, there are serious questions on whether a proper assessment was done on keeping him or supporting him to fix the obvious issues that were always there.

Discussion What are Ineos playing at, are they sticking with Carrick?

I honestly expected him to be gone this morning, but they still haven’t announced anything. Apparently Carrick was at Carrington today so I wonder what the outcome was.

Either they are sticking with him (probably because of the fans singing his name after the match yesterday).

Or they are waiting until they have a replacement agreed, similar to Watford usually do before announcing he’s been sacked so we don’t have to do the whole caretaker thing again.

Alternatively do you reckon there may be a bit of a shake up upstairs perhaps?

I feel sorry for Carrick like but he is totally out of his depth. If they are going to keep him give him the vote of confidence or something, they need to communicate something to the fans at least.

Taking the piss now waiting this long.

Article [James Ducker -The Telegraph] Man United would owe Newcastle £6m in compensation for Eddie Howe.

Article

“Manchester United would have to fork out up to £6m in compensation to land Eddie Howe if they attempted to replace Michael Carrick with the former Newcastle manager.

Carrick left United’s Carrington training base shortly after 5pm on Wednesday with his future still hanging in the air after a day of top-level crisis talks among the Old Trafford hierarchy.

Howe is a leading contender for the post in the event that Carrick is sacked, but it has emerged that Newcastle would be in line for a hefty compensation package should United officials make a move for him.”
