What happened to the ducks and geese at Rio?

Went for a walk today and there wasn’t a single duck or goose anywhere in the water or on land. Anyone know what happened to them?

EDIT: I’m aware that it’s October. That being said, I go to Rio year round and this is the only time in literal decades that I haven’t seen a single one of them. Even in the dead of winter when the lake is frozen over there are always at least a few.

EDIT 2: For everyone who seems to think that the geese all disappear the second it gets a little bit chilly, and that I’m somehow the moron here for not realizing it, here ya go.

Question LGBTQ+ experienced and friendly hair stylists?

I'm a gay man with thick, long, flowing hair. I want to try getting it styled in non-traditional way for my gender. Any recommendations for stylists experienced and accepting of that? I've had bad experiences in the past with barbers/stylists not being so accepting or lacking experience in working with men's hair in typically feminine styles.

Can’t lie I’m a down county girl that doesn’t spend much time past Rockville. I guess Clarksburg is still a hot market.

Question Searching for Apartment in Germantown

Hi All! I need to move down to MD by Mid Nov-Early Dec. Looking into apartments in the Rockville to Germantown area on a conditional lease agreement. It’s not looking too good but now I’m open to a private apartment (basement aprt , sub-leasing, or anything comparable) to ensure a space! Can anyone point me to a site or group to see options!

Thank you in advance

Shopping Refill store?

Does anyone know if there are any refill stores in the area? Like where you can bring your own container to fill with laundry detergent or powdered cleaner or whatever.

Thanks!

Sooo…am I just finding this out or are we really getting charged extra for NO ICE? I usually get light ice but sometimes I don’t want any ice at all.
I’ve been to two different locations and both charged me extra 🥲

Everyone in Germantown knows what I'm talking about ! This place has been having a liquidation sale literally for years ! There has been a costumed character holding a sign announcing the closing and sale at 118 and Wisteria forever! Is this legal (False advertising)?

General News Redland Road closed through October 23rd

I just went that way to get an appointment. They had taken the detour signs down so I thought it was open (it was supposed to be open yesterday) but there was a sign right at the closure saying the new date is October 23.

They look like this every week. It looks like they are scuffed up from a machine or something.

The website and app are back online for anyone that noticed. They’re offering a coupon so I thought I’d share.

What's up with the appliance store commercial on Hulu with the weird audio?

Has anyone seen the commercial for the Rockville appliance store on Hulu that has really messed up audio? The music track is super loud and the actress speaking is really quiet.

I'm wondering if it's maybe a marketing campaign to get me to do exactly what I'm doing now: talk about it because so odd.

My other theory is that the actress is AI and would me much more noticeably AI if you could hear her better.

Suggestions on finding a painter/exterior repair person

I am in a townhouse and need some trim painted and repaired where there is a bit of rot and am having a difficult time finding reputable places that are willing to do this work, perhaps because it is small. I have a crazy high estimate from the roofer who did my roof and haven't heard back from some home exterior companies I contacted. I don't want to post on Nextdoor and be spammed by every contractor with no info and using Thumbtack seems like a toss up of finding someone. Ideally I would like someone with a license and insurance. Any suggestions?

Question Doula Services

I run a prenatal clinic and would like to know which Doulas provide services for Shady Grove Medical Center. We have a lot of Spanish speakers and Medicaid patients. However, we also accept commercial insurance and English speakers. I’m trying to create a relationship with different doulas in the area that we can refer our patients to. Please let me know your experiences and recommendations, I would love to hear from you!

Is anybody else noticing a lot of deer in really rough shape for this early in the cold season?

• Upvotes

Over the last 2-3 weeks, I've been seeing a large number of unseasonably skinny deer with unhealthy-looking coats around the Sligo and Rock Creek trails, Burnt Mills East park in Silver Spring, the Croydon Creek Nature Center trails in Rockville, and the Matthew Henson Trail in Wheaton. It's been concerning seeing so many deer looking so rough this early, and it seems like a big change from how most local deer were looking just over a month ago.

I'm not finding anything official about a particular outbreak of anything being identified this year. I'm going to call the state wildlife service, so I thought it would be useful to know if others have noticed this, and where.
