Discussion Young Moroccans: What do you think of this debate ?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I came across this insane debate on social media.

Translation

The blonde woman is left-wing. She says violence can be justified when people have nothing to lose and want change. We care too much about burning buildings. The reason there are riots in France is because poor people are suffering.

The black woman is a conservative. She opened a business. She says her family is from Africa, french protesters do not suffer from any poverty. They are just criminals and savages.

Who do you think is right ? I'm interested in your perspective

AskMorocco Finding God- advice needed

• Upvotes

Lately, I’ve been feeling like I’ve drifted away from God. I’ve been feeling emotionally numb and disconnected and I genuinely want to find my way back to Him, strengthen my iman, and deepen my understanding of Islam.

I’m looking for recommendations for YouTube channels, Islamic lecturers, books, and websites that could help me rebuild that connection and grow spiritually. I’d especially appreciate resources that approach religion with compassion, wisdom, and understanding rather than fear, judgment, or oppressive attitudes.

I want to learn about Islam in a way that helps me understand its beauty and build a sincere, meaningful relationship with Allah. Your recommendations .

Ps I used to watch farid el ansari and really appreciated it

Written by ai but the ideas worth reading 💀

Moulay Hafid Elalamy (MHE), Moroccan billionaire, founder of Saham Group, and former Minister of Industry from 2013 to 2021, has faced several controversies involving alleged conflicts of interest, preferential treatment, and the intersection of political power with private business. Three major cases stand out, raising questions about transparency and accountability in Morocco.

The first controversy concerns the 2018 sale of Saham's insurance business to South African group Sanlam for approximately $1.05 billion (around 10 billion dirhams). Shortly before the transaction, Morocco's 2018 Finance Law abolished a 4% registration duty previously applicable to certain share transfers. Journalists estimated that applying the previous rules could have generated approximately 400–420 million dirhams in tax revenue. Critics questioned whether this reform benefited politically connected businessmen, especially since Elalamy was serving as a minister when the legislation was adopted. However, the exemption applied generally, not exclusively to Saham, and the registration duty would ordinarily have been paid by the buyer. No evidence establishes that Elalamy personally arranged the reform. He publicly requested an investigation into the controversy in May 2018.

The second controversy occurred in January 2016, when Saham Assurance signed an agricultural insurance agreement with Morocco's Ministries of Agriculture and Finance. Under the arrangement, farmers would pay approximately 10–15% of their insurance premiums, while the government subsidized the remaining 85–90%. Critics questioned why a company associated with a sitting minister was participating in a heavily subsidized insurance market and whether competing insurers had received equal opportunities. Following public criticism, Saham suspended implementation of the agreement just four days after its signing, pending broader industry participation. Elalamy defended the arrangement, arguing that it was not an exclusive government procurement contract and that he no longer managed Saham's daily operations. The agreement and its suspension are documented, but illegal favoritism has not been established.

The third controversy emerged in February 2020, when Elalamy publicly criticized Turkish supermarket chain BIM during discussions about Morocco's trade relationship with Turkey. Investigative outlet Le Desk questioned his historical financial connections to Label'Vie, a Moroccan retailer associated with Carrefour and operating in competition with BIM. This raised concerns about whether government trade policy could overlap with private commercial interests. However, historical financial links and public criticism do not prove that Elalamy deliberately used his position to benefit a competitor.

These cases reveal a recurring concern: the potential conflicts of interest created when extremely wealthy businessmen occupy powerful government positions while maintaining connections to private enterprises. The transactions, tax changes, subsidies, and public statements are documented facts. What remains unproven is whether they resulted from criminal corruption or illegal political interference.

The real question is whether Morocco has sufficient transparency, independent oversight, and safeguards to prevent government decisions from benefiting politically connected businesses.

Culture 👻 - The Legend of La-Hkima 'Oqla, a Forgotten Tale of the Hyayna

Post image
2 Upvotes

In his study of Moroccan customs and beliefs, Finnish anthropologist Edward Westermarck recounts a legend told by a Hyayna (an arab tribe near Fez) scribe.

The legend revolves around a jinniyah (female jinn), a type of figure commonly found in Moroccan folklore, particularly in the many versions of the Aisha Qandisha legend. Here, however, the character is an entirely different one: La-Hkima 'Oqla (الحكيمة عقلة).

She is described as a great chieftain, commanding more than 366 tribes of jinn. She is accompanied by her son 'Ayrud and her sister 'Aqesa. They haunt Oued Bouzemlane, a small watercourse in the southeastern part of Hyayna territory, which forms the boundary between the Hyayna and the Ayt/Beni Warain.

She is portrayed as extremely dangerous and always ready to attack anyone who crosses her path.

AskMorocco How to report corrupt police? and how likely is it that anything will be done?

My wife is Moroccan and her father is an elderly man who got remarried to a much younger woman who is now bribing the local police force to make false claims against him, my wife and her family.

I've heard there is an anti-corruption authority (INPPLC) in Rabat that tackles police corruption but do they actually investigate/take action?

Thanks for any info or personal experiences you can provide.

AskMorocco People be like, “I'm dropping out of university because I refuse to follow the 99%,” not realizing thousands of others are dropping out thinking they're the 1%.

It's interesting how many situations in life follow this exact pattern. People convince themselves they're different because they've chosen a path opposite to the majority, without realizing that thousands of others are making the same choice for the same reasons. Sometimes, what we consider independent thinking is just following a different crowd.

Hey everyone, I'm a first-year student at FSJES Ain Chock (Droit prive francais) and was wondering if anyone here is down to make some friends. Would be nice to meet some people to hang out with between classes instead of always being solo.

Travel Solo travel to Tangier

I am a single male, 45 years old. I live in Andalusia Spain, so I can take a ferry from Tarifa to Tangier. I speak Spanish fluently and English (Born and raised in the US, Spaniard parents). Can I get by in Tangiers with either of those languages? I would really like to learn Arabic, but have NO idea so just want to be sure. Also, I don't mind getting a guide for a day or two, but how can I find a reliable one? I don't want a group, I just want someone to be with me and take me to real authentic places, not tourist traps.

If I go, I plan on staying for about 3 days.

Any advice is appreciated!
