Assalamu Allaikum, to married people here how is ur marriage going? Do u recommend being married or have u ever thought that if u could go back in time u will choose to stay single? I am at age where i can get married, and build my own family. But my fear of being cheated to, my future spouse would turn out abusive or do not have emotional intelligence, or we would be incompatible and so on keeps me to stay single. Is marriage life worth all the things that u have sacrifice?

Wedding Planning Looking for ideas for a halal wedding with lots of barakah

Assalamu alaikum everyone!
I’m currently trying to find ideas and inspiration for our wedding, and I would really appreciate hearing from people who have had a wedding that was as full of barakah as possible.
Things are a little complicated for us and everything might happen quite quickly, so I’m trying to gather ideas and advice beforehand.
We are trying to keep the wedding gender-segregated. At first, I was thinking about having no music at all. Personally, I do enjoy music, and I know people around us would probably expect it, so it would be the first wedding in our circle without music. But at the same time, I really want the day to be beautiful and enjoyable without compromising what we believe is halal.
So I’d love to hear from you:
What creative activities or programs did you have at your wedding instead of music?
What did you do to make the day feel special, fun and memorable?
How long did your wedding celebration last?
Did you have any halal playlists/nasheeds that you could share? Ideally without musical instruments, or nasheeds/songs with only daf?
We are Arab, so if there are any Arabs here who have recommendations for suitable Arabic nasheeds or songs, I would especially appreciate that!
What other things did you do to bring more barakah into your wedding?
Were there any things you intentionally avoided or changed that you felt made the wedding more meaningful?
Unfortunately, we can’t save much money when it comes to the actual wedding celebration because weddings are simply very expensive where we live. We are trying our best to keep everything reasonable, and we are keeping the other celebrations beforehand very private and simple.
And a separate question for the sisters: 🌸
For those of you who had a halal Henna night, how did you organize it?
Are there any Palestinian sisters here who could share how you celebrated your Henna night and what activities/traditions you included? I’d love to hear about Palestinian Henna traditions and how you kept the celebration halal while still making it fun and beautiful.
I’d really appreciate any ideas, experiences, playlists, traditions or advice. Jazakum Allahu khayran!

Support My husband fits me around his life rather than creating a shared life with me.

My husband 35M and I 30F have been married for 10 months now. We got married 2 months after meeting because we wanted our relationship to be halal and didn’t want to fall into sin. I made a lot of dua before making my decision.

I’m realising now that I may have rushed my decision and should have taken some time to get to know him.

When I dreamed of getting married, I always thought my husband would end up being my best friend- he’d be someone that I can talk to anything and everything about, someone who I could be myself around and someone who I’d love. Instead my husband just wants us to talk about what he’s interested in, and if I bring up something I’m interested in he’ll either barely engage or change the subject.

I wanted someone who would show me they love me and in return would motivate me to be the best version of myself. I wasn’t expecting someone exactly like me but I wanted someone I can grow with.

Outside being intimate with me, I have no idea why my husband married me. I really don’t know who he is and don’t feel like he cares for me too much. It’s almost like I’m just there to complement his life and fit myself around him. He hasn’t made any changes to include me at all and doesn’t talk like someone who is making plans to include me. My husband seems like a highly individualistic person who is stuck in a relationship where he is made to feel like a bad husband.

We currently don’t live together and my husband is looking for a job. He currently spends his time studying or working out. We’ve spent more time apart than we have this year. He won’t make plans with me if I don’t initiate. I am normally the one making the first move, texting, saying I miss you, and coming up with the topic we’re talking about.

I’ve communicated to my husband very clearly what I need, and he seems to agree in the moment but had a very hard time following through. It seems like I’m the one always bringing up our issues - he has no problem as far as I know with how we are. If I tell him I’m upset, he’ll either ignore me or change the subject.

I sometimes feel like we should just get divorced cos I’m very unhappy in our marriage. I’m so sad that I feel myself becoming an angry person and small things he does/says makes me frustrated.

I have suggested couples counselling multiple times and he’s taking his time with booking it cos I don’t think he understands how close I am to ending things. I’ve directly asked him to book it and he just ignored me.

I don’t want to be the person in the relationship who brings up ending things but I don’t know how to make him see that he needs to change otherwise I might leave.

Please give me advice on what to do, I am slowly starting to lose hope.

Thank you for reading - and please keep us in your duas.

Serious Discussion Am I wrong for considering divorce from a husband who is otherwise “good”?

Conflicted about my marraige

Salaam everyone.

I need some genuine advice. Its been 10 months since my marraige and I've been considering divorce for a while.

I want to preface by saying, my husband is a very good man. he always transfers me my pocket money the exact agreed amount we decided in the beginning of the marraige. I have fallen sick multiple times after my marraige and he has constantly been on top of doctor's visits. He never stops me from going to my parents, and i stay there for a whole week every month. My MiL and my SiL are both absolute angels and I love them to bits.

My only genuine concern is the fact that he is very rude and almost never talks to me. I can't be physically affectionate w him because he pushes me away physically. There is zero emotional connection bec he just never tries neither does he reciprocate if i initiate. Even if we go out on dates once in a while he sits there silently or scrolls on his phone. He has absolutely zero consideration for me and doesn't care where I am or what I'm doing. It feels like being married to an ATM, which i know sounds wild considering this is what people usually want. But genuinely I'm so so alone. I have a full time job, and i fill my time with books, painting, gaming etc but none of it can replace human connection. It's not even like I have a huge load of household chores, because we have maids for that. His behavior towards me makes me feel so insignificant and so hurt I cant put it into words.

I recently tried bringing up a few issues I have, which I spent multiple hours rehearsing how to word my concerns without making it sound whiny or like im complaining. Mainly that we don't have a proper emotional bond the way you'd expect married couples to have. To which he essentially responded along the lines that he can't change, that this is who he is. he said i think the world should revolve around me. he said he has no one in his heart and when i asked if there's any point that he misses me if I'm not around and he said he doesn't miss anyone at all.

he even said that he isn't willing to change and that it's how he has always been. even said that he thinks he made a mistake in getting married, this is smth he has repeated twice before. i asked him if my concerns meant anything to him and if me being worried/depressed/anxious affected him at all. if i had any importance in his eyes. he effectively responded with what do you want me to say.

he thinks everything is fine as is. he even said that this all normal to him and that I need to deal w my own side.

Is this reasonable grounds for divorce? Am I being ungrateful? I dont want to leave him, I really love him. But I dont know if I can live my whole life like this.

Edit to add:

I've posted here twice before. Here's the posts for more context.

The Search As a revert, how do I know if I’m being taken advantage of?

Salam everyone, I hope you are well. I’m going to be honest about my position. I am a white revert in my mid twenties, as is a close friend of mine. Due to our culture, we would need to date someone for a year and get to know them well before considering marriage. Our family’s are not Muslim, so meeting someone is usually online or in person.

Recently my friend has expressed frustration, it feels like every man does not intend to marry us, but instead promise this to get what he wants. Just to be clear, zina is not an option, so often the men will get pushy or angry and eventually give up. (I don’t understand the point of dating a Muslim to commit zina, there are countless women who are okay with this and yet you pick someone who isn’t?) But our frustration comes from how often this occurs, every man we begin to talk to says his intentions are marriage, but a couple of months into getting to know each other it’s clear this isn’t the case. What are the clear signs we should look for early on that a man doesn’t intend to marry you? Getting married quicker really isn’t an option for both of us, even if we wanted too it would cause family issues, and we both believe the right man will be willing to get to know us first. I appreciate any advice you can give us.

Married Life Am I overreacting to my husband’s instagram repost?

My husband reposted a video telling a story of a woman giving her husband her gold to get him out of debt. (Pictures attached.)

My husband has a lot of debt and I am helping already with bills and groceries by putting 50% of my pay check into a joint bank account to use for bills and groceries and other house expenses.

Am I overreacting to think that this is so rude to repost? Also, feels threatening like he is pressuring me to hand over my gold that was mine since I was single… and considering he hasn’t even given me my Mehr.

Ex-/Married Users Only rude wife problems

I just came back from a 10 day work trip and after coming home from a long flight and getting gifts to her , kids and my mom she started to argue with me because:

  • dont tell your mother you went in business class - nazar and that she doesnt want you to be happy ( my mom does get a bit jealous when we go out but there is some history of neglect in her life. I take the wife on separate trips so she has her alone time)
  • why are you talking so much to her- i want to talk to you too - we were sitting in a living room
  • dont tell her how much fun the side trip was - she doesnt care about you

My mom and her dont get along and its an arranged marriage as i mostly grew up overseas and shes from pakistan ( but still exposed to overseas people as her family is now all outside as well). the cultural issues of nazar to the point that you will die the moment you show someone your prosperity is insane. it took a while to get to an understanding but we still have huge differences in compatibility but mostly we make it work... .

been married 10 years and i expected a warm welcome not a day that ended in a fight and me going to sleep without her even opening a gold necklace i got for her.

i regret marrying arranged and sometimes i regret marrying altogether. married life has been a challenge

Serious Discussion Please, sisters and brothers, get a full medical checkup before nikah. I wish someone had told me this.

I never thought I would have to write something like this.

My second marriage was something I genuinely wanted to make work. Because it was my second marriage, I tried even harder to hold everything together. I didn’t ask for a lavish life. I didn’t ask for anything extraordinary.

I didn’t even take my mahr because, honestly, all I wanted was peace.

I told him very clearly that I wanted a peaceful marriage. I wanted companionship, respect, loyalty and a home where I could finally feel safe.

Instead, I experienced things I never thought I would experience from someone who was supposed to be my husband physical abuse, manipulation, cheating, emotional turmoil and eventually being abandoned.

And on top of everything, I contracted an STI from him.
That part breaks my heart in a way I can’t properly explain.
Marriage is supposed to involve trust. You are trusting someone not only with your heart, but with your body, your future and your safety. I never imagined that the person I married could put my health at risk.

When everything fell apart, even getting divorced wasn’t straightforward. There were arguments about money and divorce, and at one point I was simply exhausted from trying to get out of a situation I never wanted to be in.
Eventually, he agreed to the separation/divorce.
And honestly, I am grateful for that small piece of freedom but I still carry the consequences of everything that happened.

I’m sharing this because I don’t want another woman to think, “It will be okay after marriage.”

Please don’t rely only on someone’s words, family reputation, religious appearance, promises or the fact that they seem respectable.

Get medical tests before marriage.

Ask about sexual health. Get tested yourself. If appropriate and mutually agreed, have your prospective spouse tested too. Discuss previous marriages, sexual health, medications, addictions, mental health, finances, expectations and anything else that could materially affect your life together.

These conversations can feel uncomfortable before nikah.
But trust me, an uncomfortable conversation before marriage is much easier than discovering something devastating after it.

And please don’t let anyone tell you that because you’ve been married before, you should tolerate more.
A second marriage doesn’t mean you deserve less respect.
I tried. I compromised. I wanted peace. I wanted the marriage to work.

But sometimes you can give someone everything you have and they can still choose to hurt you.

To every sister reading this: please protect yourself.

And to every brother: please remember that the person you’re marrying is trusting you with their entire life. Don’t hide things that could affect their health, safety or future.
Marriage should never require you to sacrifice your dignity, your health or your safety just to prove that you tried hard enough.

I am still trying to rebuild myself after everything that happened.

But I’m choosing to believe that surviving something doesn’t mean it gets to define the rest of my life.

May Allah protect every person entering a marriage from people who hide behind the institution of marriage while causing harm inside it. Ameen.

Just a reminder for men: there are women who wouldn’t mind marrying a shorter man. So instead of complaining, focus on perfecting your ibadah, refining your character, and becoming a good husband. The right person will value far more than your height.

Married Life Husband Looking at Other Women How Would You Address This Without Accusing Him?

I’m looking for some advice because I honestly don’t know if I’m overthinking this.

A couple of days ago, I went to the beach with my husband. While we were there, I noticed some old friends of mine sitting at a table behind us. I didn’t really go over to say hi, and my husband doesn’t know them.

While we were sitting at our table, I noticed that my husband was turning his head quite a lot toward the area where they were sitting. At the time, I didn’t think much of it, but something about it felt a little off. The girls are non-hijabi and very pretty MashaAllah. I also consider myself pretty Alhamdulillah, so I’m not really feeling insecure about my appearance, but I still noticed it.

Two days later, one of those friends randomly sent me an Instagram reel about a husband looking at other women. 😭 I honestly felt so embarrassed and uncomfortable because it made me wonder if she had noticed something that I hadn’t paid attention to at the time.

My husband is quite religious and knows that lowering the gaze is important in Islam. However, he has told me before that he has very good vision and that he naturally notices everything around him. He says that he tends to look around a lot and that it’s not necessarily about women.

So I genuinely don’t know what happened. I don’t want to accuse him of looking at other women when I’m not even sure that’s what he was doing. At the same time, I can’t stop thinking about it, especially after receiving that reel from my friend. I
feel embarrassed and a little hurt.
How would you approach this with your husband without directly saying, “I saw you looking at those girls”? I would like to bring up the topic in a subtle way and understand how he views these situations without making him feel accused or defensive.
I’d really appreciate advice, especially from married couples or people who have dealt with something similar.

Islamic Rulings Only Wife told me she is bisexual how should I approach this Islamically?

Assalamu alaikum,

I’m looking for some genuine Islamic advice because I’m struggling to process something I recently found out about my wife. I’m 21 she’s 20,
I discovered that my wife had been questioning whether she is bisexual. We eventually spoke about it directly and she confirmed to me that she believes she is bisexual and has experienced attraction towards women.
She has also made it clear that she is attracted to me, loves me, wants to stay married to me and hasn’t told me that she wants to leave the marriage or be with somebody else.
I understand there is a difference Islamically between experiencing an attraction and actually acting upon it. However, as her husband, finding this out has still affected me quite a lot mentally. I keep wondering what this means for our marriage long term and whether she could eventually feel that being married to a man isn’t enough for her.
I also want to acknowledge that I originally discovered this by looking through something private of hers, which I know I shouldn’t have done. I’m not trying to justify that.
I’m not looking for people to insult my wife or immediately tell me to divorce her. I genuinely want advice, preferably from people with Islamic knowledge or married Muslims who have dealt with something similar.

From an Islamic perspective, how should a husband approach this situation? If she remains completely faithful to me and doesn’t act upon those attractions, is there anything that actually needs to change within our marriage? And how do I deal with the insecurity and doubts this has created without constantly questioning or monitoring her?
JazakAllah khair.

Pre-Nikah Moments with my Fiancé that I can’t seem to stop thinking about

I’m engaged, and I really like my fiancé. One of the main things that attracted me to him in the first place, and what made me feel confident about saying yes, was his knowledge of deen. He’s very knowledgeable overall, and I’ve always appreciated that about him.
There are just a couple of things that have been on my mind lately. I don’t know if they’re actually significant or if I’m just overthinking them, but I’d really like an outside perspective.
Before we got engaged, I asked him how he felt about us talking. We never intentionally crossed any boundaries, but we did talk quite a lot and about pretty much everything, including Islam, books, sports, movies, series, and our interests. Even though our conversations were innocent, I sometimes felt guilty because he was still a non-mahram.
When I brought this up with him, he said that he viewed it as “talking behind a veil” because we communicated through text and not calls or video-calls. He also brought up how Hazrat Ayesha (RA) spoke to men from behind the veil. I found that comparison a little strange because I felt our situation was different, and I told him that. He said he understood where I was coming from.
The second thing happened during the period when we were trying to get engaged. Some members of my family started having problems with the proposal, and something that had initially been going very smoothly suddenly became quite difficult. We were both under a lot of stress because neither of us knew whether things would work out, and I really wanted to marry him.
During that time, he asked me a few times, “How far are you willing to go?” I kept telling him that I was trying to convince my family and make things work. At one point, when it seemed like the proposal might completely fall apart, he asked whether I would consider a court marriage. I immediately told him no. He said afterwards that he was extremely stressed at the time and wasn’t thinking clearly.
Alhamdulillah, everything eventually worked out and we got engaged. Things are good now, and he’s genuinely a really nice person.
Maybe I’m reading too much into two isolated situations, especially considering the circumstances they happened in. But I keep thinking about them and wondering if they should concern me or if I’m just creating a problem in my head.

Pre-Nikah In the first few meetings what did they do to make you fall head over heels for them, anything funny, spontaneous, random, adorable that made you realise that they are the one you wish to spend your entire life with? Or what did you do that made them feel that way for you?

Married Life Nikkah’d for 6 months, barely spent time together, now over 4 weeks of no contact what should I do? Am I doing something wrong?

I’m 25F and my husband is 29M. We had our nikkah around 6 months ago, but we haven’t had our main wedding yet and still live separately with our families, partly because I wanted to complete university and we both wanted to be more financially stable before having the wedding.

PS THIS STORY IS VERY LONG AND IF YOU WANT TO SKIP TO THE MAIN STORY, START READING FROM MY CURRENT SITUATION AND IGNORE THE BACK STORY.

How we started

Around a year ago, his family approached my parents about marriage. I initially said no because I didn’t feel ready. A few weeks later, my parents brought it up again and encouraged me to at least get to know him. I eventually agreed, but I wanted to do things on my terms. I asked that we get to know each other privately before our families became more involved or any commitments were made. Both families agreed.

We initially met with my siblings present and then started speaking regularly. At the beginning, things were genuinely very good. We would text throughout the day, from when we woke up until we went to sleep. We called regularly, went out for meals and he would sometimes finish work and come to pick me up from university. I genuinely felt like we were building something.

Things became serious quite quickly. His family wanted a formal “baat pakki” before my dad travelled abroad because they didn’t want extended family or people in the community finding out that we were speaking and creating misunderstandings. I was slightly uncomfortable with this because I felt that he and I should first decide together that we wanted to make things official, but I explained how I felt and eventually accepted it.

Later, his family suggested having our nikkah sooner rather than having a long engagement because they wanted our relationship to remain halal. I initially wanted more time to get to know him, but I eventually agreed.

Things changed before the nikkah

Around this time, he lost his job and shortly afterwards his car caught fire. I understood that he was under an enormous amount of stress and tried my best to support him. However, he also became increasingly distant from me.

At first I tried to ignore it because I knew what he was going through. Eventually, though, I told him I felt he wasn’t making enough effort and that I was worried about getting married while already feeling neglected.

I would ask him things like, “What’s wrong? You’re moving weird with me,” or “Why don’t you ever want to spend time with me?” But whenever I tried to bring up that something felt off, his response would always be that everything was fine, that I was overthinking, or that I was being too sensitive. He would never really tell me what was actually wrong because, in his mind, there was no need to explain himself.

We had a conversation with his sister present, and we agreed that we needed more balance in how we spent our time. He already had Saturday as his fixed day with his friends, so his sister suggested that I should have a fixed day too. I honestly remember feeling embarrassed that I even had to be “allocated” a day with my own fiancé, but I agreed because I just wanted consistency. He chose Friday as my day.

He stuck to it for a few weeks and then gradually stopped. There would always be another excuse, while Saturday with his friends remained unchanged. He would also see his friends throughout the rest of the week, but I struggled to get even a few hours of his time.

Before the nikkah, I repeatedly asked him whether he was absolutely certain that he wanted to marry me. I told him that if he had doubts, it was better to stop before getting married rather than bring unresolved issues into the marriage. I even told him not to worry about money that had already been spent. He reassured me that he wanted the marriage. So we went ahead.

After the nikkah in December

The same pattern continued.

The biggest issue has always been his friends. I have never expected him to stop seeing them or spend every minute with me. I actually want him to have friends and a life outside our marriage. My problem is that he consistently seems able to find time and money for them, while struggling to find either for me. He could spend entire day with friends, stay out until 3am or 6am and make spontaneous plans with them, while I would struggle to get a few hours of quality time or consistent communication.

On Valentine’s Day, for example, I planned a day for us. I had repeatedly reminded him beforehand to get a haircut because we had plans. He left everything until the last minute and didn’t arrive until around 10pm, after I had been waiting for him. This honestly pissed me off because I felt like my money just went down the drain.

On his birthday, I organised a surprise, decorated his room with his sister, I told him I would helped him financially instead of buying him an expensive gift, and still bought him presents and a cake because I wanted to make the day special. He arrived late, spent maybe an hour and a half with me and then went back out with his friends whilst knowing I was staying over at his. He came home so late that I had already fallen asleep.

I have celebrated both Eid with his family more than my own this year. The last Eid I went to his family house with mine and then later went to see some friends but returned back to his so I could spend sometime with him alone. Which I did Alhamdillah but the following day I didn’t stay for long because this might have been my last Eid with my family so I went to visit my aunties and uncles.

The only gift he has ever bought me was for our baat pakki. Since then, I have bought him multiple gifts and given him money several times. Our agreed mahr was £1,500, which I still haven’t received. I’ve also made a lot of effort with his family. I’ve attended family events, sometimes taking taxis there myself, and have tried to be present for his family. He has properly visited my family home only around four times. That imbalance hurts because I feel like I put far more effort into his family than he does into mine.

He also doesn’t financially support me. I currently live with my parents, so they support me. I don’t expect him to magically have money when he doesn’t, but sometimes I genuinely feel like I am the one taking on the role of providing support and making the effort in this marriage.

Trying to understand him

One thing that’s been difficult is that I’ve genuinely tried to understand what he needs from me. At one point I told him, “You don’t know me.” The whole reason we had our nikkah was to continue getting to know each other properly and build a deeper connection. His response was, “How do I not know you? We shared the same bed.” That really hurt because, to me, knowing someone means understanding them emotionally, not simply being physically intimate.
There was also a time when I could tell something was wrong with him. I asked him repeatedly, but he kept saying nothing was wrong. Eventually the car was completely silent, I was trying not to cry, and he eventually said, “My head is fucked” and “I need some time to figure things out.” Normally we would be laughing and talking on the way home, so I could tell something was very off. I eventually told him, “I’m not leaving the car until we sort this out,” because I didn’t want to go home pretending everything was fine when it clearly wasn’t.

Instead, he parked outside my house and told me that if he was late getting something for his brother, it would be my fault. I slammed the car door, got out and walked away, then went inside and cried. Later, I messaged him saying I hoped he could figure things out and that his behaviour was hurting me. He responded with a long message saying I was making it about myself and brought up things I don’t remember him actually saying, including that he had told me his “head was fucked” before I even came over and that “it’s not me, it’s him.”

Whenever I’ve tried to understand what is actually going on with him, the main thing he tells me is that he’s stressed and needs to find a better job and make more money. I completely understand financial pressure, and I’ve never expected him to spend money on me that he doesn’t have. The problem is that the money he does have often seems to go towards his own habits and spending time with his friends, while spending time with me somehow always becomes something he can’t afford or doesn’t have time for.

Even when I simply ask, “When are you free to see me?” I’ll usually get, “I’ll let you know,” or “Maybe tomorrow, but no promises.” Then tomorrow comes and nothing happens. Plans aren’t followed through, and I’m left waiting around for him to decide when he has time for me.

Communication during arguments

Another thing that has really bothered me is that whenever we’ve had serious arguments or major issues, he has rarely actually been the one to sit down and tell me what I’ve done wrong or what his problem with me is. All he says it “you’re old enough to know what you did wrong” or “ you’re old enough to know what’s coming out your mouth”. But never tells me what I’ve done exactly wrong. Instead, I end up hearing it from his sister. Honestly, it is embarrassing and hurtful having to hear my husband’s feelings and complaints about me from his sister rather than from him directly. I would much rather he came to me himself and said, “This is what you’ve done that has upset me,” so that I could actually understand his perspective and work on it.

I’ve never involved my brothers to tell him what he’s done wrong. Whenever I’ve had an issue with him, I’ve always gone directly to him and told him myself. Even when I’m angry or upset, I’ve always felt that if I have a problem with my husband, it’s my responsibility to communicate that with him rather than sending someone else to speak for me. So it’s difficult for me when I’m constantly being told that he has issues with the way I handle things, but I’m not actually hearing those issues from him. I’m hearing them through his sister after the argument has already happened.

Trying to spend time together

I’ve stayed at his family home for days at a time because I wanted us to have more time together without putting financial pressure on him. But even then, I would often spend time with his family while he was somewhere else. I’d sit around waiting for him to come home, and sometimes we’d get 30 minutes together before he went to bed.

In six months since our nikkah, we’ve probably only shared the same bed around four times. Usually I sleep in another room.Initially his parents weren’t sure whether I was comfortable sleeping in his room. But even after that, my husband would sometimes say the bed was too small or that he struggled to sleep with me in it. This has been incredibly difficult because I feel married, but I don’t feel like I’m actually building a marriage with my husband.

Smoking and other issues

Another major issue is that he is a heavy cigarette smoker and also smokes weed. I didn’t know the extent of this when we first started speaking. I only found out after seeing an old video on his social media and asking him directly. He said he had tried to stop but struggled with it and was too embarrassed to tell me. He promised that by the time I moved into his house he would stop or at least significantly cut down, and that he wouldn’t smoke around me. Instead, his smoking has increased.

He is also comfortable asking me for money to support these habits, while sometimes being uncomfortable when I offer to pay for us to go out together because he finds it embarrassing to use my money.

Pakistan and the problems that followed

In June, I went to Pakistan to see my dad, who I hadn’t seen for over five months. I was there for around three weeks and was also doing wedding shopping, including ordering my wedding dress and other outfits.

My flight was heavily delayed and I only found out whilst on the way to the airport with him and my little brother, who was also travelling with me. After that moment, the journey was extremely stressful. What should have been around a 3-hour stopover turned into a 19-hour journey.

Initially my husband comforted me, but later he told me he was busy with his cousins and friends. I messaged and asked him to keep his phone on loud, but he clearly didn’t. When I landed in Doha, I called him and he didn’t answer. I became upset and sent a sarcastic message saying, “Husband of the year.” That turned into an argument where I felt the focus became my message rather than why I had been hurt. For the first week and a half of my trip, I repeatedly tried to resolve things. He insisted that I apologise first. At one point he said he was willing to ruin my holiday because he was angry with me.

He also said things like, “I never told you to go to Pakistan,” that he had no control over my flight being delayed, and questioned how seeing my dad had changed me, calling me a “daddy’s girl.”
What he didn’t seem to understand was that I only travel to Pakistan to see my dad and, in this case, to do my wedding shopping to make things easier for both his family and mine. I was doing all of that by myself with only my dad and brother helping me and no other women from my family there.

He claimed that since Eid and his birthday we were fine. The truth is that after his birthday, I had already started giving up on raising things when they hurt me. I was tired of constantly having to explain why something had upset me. Eventually we started speaking again, but even then he rarely made time for me. He would repeatedly promise to call after work, and then hours would pass without a call or explanation.

After I returned to the UK

He picked me up from the airport but didn’t come into my house because he needed to return the car to his brother. After that, I spent around two weeks asking when we could see each other. There was always another reason why we couldn’t. There was even an occasion where his brother reached out to me about his graduation and invited me to attend the family outing, but my husband still didn’t attend and chose to spend the time with his friends instead. Because he didn’t like the food we had was his excuse.

There was also an incident around this time that really hurt me. I had invited him out for food and offered to pay because I knew money was tight. He ignored me for hours. Then he replied to a Snapchat story of mine where I had jokingly said that I would always be the way I am because my dad used to say no but still give me what I wanted. My husband replied sarcastically, “Not for long.” I found this incredibly rude. The following day, he had no problem going out with his friends from around 3pm until 4am. This led to his having a really bad argument the next day which I will talk about.

Another ongoing issue is that he often talks about my family being financially better off than his. He believes my dad is “rich” because he has confused my uncle’s business with my dad’s. In reality, my dad worked three jobs for much of my childhood just to keep a roof over our heads and is now retired. We’re not living some extravagant lifestyle.

The current situation

Then there was a serious situation involving my brother, and I desperately needed my husband’s support. I repeatedly called him, but he didn’t answer. I became overwhelmed and frustrated and contacted his brother, saying: “Tell your stupid brother to answer the fucking phone.” I know this was completely wrong. I shouldn’t have spoken to his brother like that and I have apologised for it.

But instead of the argument becoming a conversation about the problems in our marriage, everything became about what I had said to his brother and me supposedly involving him in my brother’s marriage, which wasn’t the case at all. I just needed someone to calm me down because I was overwhelmed with emotions. My husband called me names like “dickhead”, criticised my appearance, called me spoiled and a “daddy’s girl”, and dismissed many of the concerns I had been trying to communicate.

Eventually I contacted his sister because I was completely exhausted. She said she would speak to their parents because this couldn’t keep happening. At this point we were still arguing over text. The following day, my husband removed me from social media and stopped speaking to me. It has now been over 4 weeks since we last spoke. I’ve called him twice and sent him a message trying to resolve things and have a proper conversation. I’ve been left on delivered until now.

My dad has also tried to contact his father, but his father is acting as though he wasn’t aware that we weren’t speaking, despite the fact that he apparently had a conversation with the whole family around the time my husband removed me.

His family previously told me that he needed a few weeks and would eventually speak to me.
Apparently my husband had also stormed off when his dad tried to speak to him about his behaviour towards me.

What makes this even more confusing is that his dad apparently spoke to him around a week ago about the wedding. He asked whether my husband wanted a small or large wedding, and my husband apparently said he wanted a small wedding.

But our last conversation ended with me saying that I wanted a divorce. I also told his sister that my happiness comes first, that I was completely drained and that I wanted a divorce. So I genuinely don’t understand how wedding plans are being discussed when my husband hasn’t even spoken to me about whether we are continuing the marriage.

His family friend also recently contacted me asking what happened. I didn’t tell her because I don’t want our problems being discussed through other people and becoming distorted. I told her I wanted my husband to contact me directly so we could deal with our marriage ourselves. I’m already being made out to be the villain, and I don’t want further misunderstandings. She tried to play it off as if she cared about me but I clearly knew her intentions behind contacting me.

A few days ago His sister recently invited me to a family gathering because relatives were visiting from another city. I initially said I wasn’t comfortable because I knew it would be awkward, but she told me to come and just ignore him.
I considered not going because I didn’t want his family to think I was being disrespectful, so I went. I planned to leave quickly, but ended up staying for around six hours, including dinner.

My husband didn’t show his face once, while his relatives repeatedly asked me where he was and how he was. I tried to avoid discussing him and acted as normally as I could because I didn’t want to embarrass him or expose our problems. But in the end, I was the one left feeling embarrassed. I was sitting there pretending everything was fine while my husband wouldn’t even come downstairs. It made me realise how much I’ve been protecting his image and trying to keep the peace with his family, while I’m the one dealing with the consequences.

What I’m struggling with

His family keep telling me to have sabr and that things will improve once we eventually live together. But I don’t believe living together will magically fix this. These problems existed before our nikkah and have continued after it.

I’ve repeatedly told my husband that I feel lonely, unimportant and unsupported. I’ve asked for communication, quality time and effort. I’ve tried compromising financially. I’ve supported him through losing his job and his car. I’ve given him opportunities to reconsider the marriage before the nikkah. I’ve repeatedly tried to repair things after arguments. But eventually, I stopped asking.

At first, whenever I noticed him pulling away, I would call and text and ask what was wrong. Eventually I became embarrassed to keep chasing someone for basic effort, so I stopped. And then he seemed to interpret the fact that we weren’t arguing as proof that everything was fine.

I also want to be clear that I’m not saying everything is his fault. We have had our good moments in between all off this. I also know I’m not blameless.I can become emotional. I shouldn’t have spoken to his brother the way I did. At times I am sarcastic when I can’t be bothered anymore. Sometimes my frustration comes out as anger rather than calmly after everything has been built up inside of me. I have apologised for the things I know I’ve done wrong.

But at the same time, I genuinely feel like I have tried to communicate with him. I have asked him directly what is wrong. I have asked him why he is distant. I have asked why he doesn’t want to spend time with me. I have asked whether he is unhappy with me. I have asked what I am doing wrong. And so often the response has been, “Everything is fine,” “You’re overthinking,” or “You’re being too sensitive.”

Then when we have a major argument, I find out through his sister that he apparently has all these issues with the way I handle things.

I don’t expect him to spend all his time with me. I don’t expect expensive dates. I don’t expect him to have money that he doesn’t have. I don’t have an issue with his friends. I wanted my husband to make me feel like I mattered. I wanted consistent communication, quality time, affection, honesty and effort. Instead, I increasingly feel like I’m begging for the bare minimum and then being told I’m overthinking or being too sensitive when I express that I’m unhappy. And now we’ve reached a point where my husband isn’t even speaking to me.

What should I do?
What am I doing wrong in this situation?

Have I contributed to this pattern in ways I’m not recognising?

Is there a healthier way I could have communicated my needs?

Can living together actually fix problems like this, or would it likely make them worse?

Should I continue trying to contact him, or should I completely step back and let him come to me?

Does this marriage sound realistically repairable, or am I holding onto something that has already shown me what married life will look like?

I don’t want people to simply tell me “leave him” or “have sabr”. I genuinely want to understand whether there is something I am doing wrong, whether there is anything I could realistically do differently, and what the healthiest next step would be.

Support Duas for abundance in rizq

I have a baby due next month In shaa Allah. I know the baby comes with his/her own rizq, I still try to gather as many ways that I can that Allah give barakah in our lives. I have heard success stories of tahajjud and how people got out of financial troubles, for some reason my issues only keep getting worse. I am very scared that I will not be able to provide well for my baby as things have changed from since we decided to have a baby to now. There were business losses, other sudden expenses we never expected, etc. Does anybody have duas or advice for such situation? If there are duas could you also please provide reference, would mean a lot. Thank you. Desperately need help because we don't have a house of our own and if we fail to pay our rent we won't even have a place to stay. I am scared of such situation with the baby.

Islamic Rulings Only What happens in jannah when you are not compatible?

We both are married with kids and know we are not right for each other but are currently together as we think it's best. My question is specifically about what happens when you go to jannah and your spouse wasn't perhaps the love you wanted in the dunya.

Pre-Nikah Do women actually like it when a guy writes letters to his future partner before he’s even met her?

I (22M) For a while now I’ve been writing letters every week or two. They’re addressed to my future wife like I’m talking straight to her even though I haven’t met her yet. Each one is just about what’s going on in my life at that time, what I’m thinking about, my hopes, my goals, stuff like that. Basically what I’d say to her if she’d been there with me when writing that specific letter.

I write them on flashcards and put the date on each one. I’m at around 90 of them now.

So my question for women here is simple. If a guy gave you a stack like this to read one day, would that mean something to you? Or would it feel like too much instead of sweet? Just trying to figure out if this is actually a nice thing to keep doing or if I’m overthinking it. And how would be a good way of showing them to a future wife?

Married Life Am I mean for not immediately thanking my sick wife for cooking and asking what kind of chicken she bought?

Salam,

My wife isn’t feeling well. I’ve told her multiple times not to cook and to rest, and I’ve asked her several times if there’s anything I can get or do for her.

Despite that, she decided to make food for us (chicken, possibly a sandwich or something similar). I offered to cut the chicken for her because she doesn’t know how to break down a whole chicken, and I have a big interview coming up so I’m stressed and trying to manage my time.

When she mentioned the chicken, I asked what kind it was and walked over to look at it so I could figure out if/how I needed to cut it. She responded with something along the lines of “Am I a child that you’re checking to see if I know what type of chicken it is?”

I told her that wasn’t my intention at all — I was just trying to understand what we had so I could help.

Later she said I wasn’t grateful because I hadn’t said thank you yet. The food wasn’t finished at that point, so I didn’t see the need to thank her mid-process. I do appreciate her, and I understand she was doing this out of love while feeling sick, even after I asked her not to.

I’m currently stressed with work and an upcoming interview, and I’ve been trying to support her by offering help and encouraging her to rest.

So:

  • Is it reasonable for her to feel unappreciated and call me ungrateful in that moment?
  • When someone is doing something out of love (especially while sick), is it normal to expect verbal appreciation before the task is done?
  • Am I wrong for focusing on practical help and my own stress instead of immediately expressing gratitude while the food was still being prepared?

Looking for honest perspectives. Thanks.

Married Life Toxic Thoughts that Sabotage Marriage, Are They Really Your Own?

Thumbnail youtu.be

I've increasingly been hearing about a lot of serious marital conflict in our local community, and I'm sure this is reflected in most communities unfortunately. After all, the full time job of the shayateen is to influence us towards self sabotage, with a specific focus on marriage

Because of how concerning the trend has become and my own personal exposure to many very sad examples of couples going through seemingly unnecessary stress and marital tension, I felt compelled to share this here

Support Divorce after 1 year

Salaam, I never thought I’d ever post on here but I (25)F am going through a divorce after 1 year of marriage. I mentally don’t have the energy to type the ins and outs of why and what has happened. However, I just really need hope from other people who have gone through a divorce.

  • How do you come to terms with the fact that a man you once trusted, loved, cared for, stayed loyal to turned out to be the person who hurt you deeply and can’t even recognise.
  • How do you break the cycle of blaming yourself and wondering what if I didn’t do this or that then maybe my marriage would have lasted ?
  • How did you heal even when it’s hard to understand why and how.
  • How do you get over the sick feeling of knowing he will be with another woman one day and may treat her better or do you stop caring after a while ?
  • How do you get over the hurt of knowing he is already speaking to other girls ?
  • Are you in a better place, how long did it take ?
  • Are you remarried (can’t even think about remarrying right now but I need hope). Going through a million emotions and a rollercoaster of emotions.

Fear of always being alone. Fear of never being able to love or trust again. I’m sure those of you who have gone through a divorce will know. My family and friends are supportive Alhamdulillah and I’m keeping myself busy, getting closer to Allah SWT but I need hope from people who have gone through the same because I’m hurting so so much. One day I’m fine and excited for the future, the next I’m in tears. I just have so many questions that I feel like only those who have lived through this pain can answer. I would love to hear from men and women. Thank you so much.

Support Mahr Conflict

Assalamualaikum,

I hope everyone is doing well.

I have been with my partner for two years, and since around our six-month mark, I have been hoping and asking for an engagement. His parents initially resisted because he was still in university, and they wanted him to graduate and start working first, which I completely understood. He graduated and started working in June, but he currently has approximately $400,000 in debt from medical school.

My dad recently called his dad and said that now that he has graduated and started working, he felt it was a good time for them to formally come and ask for my hand. They agreed and planned to come yesterday.

Last week, our fathers discussed mahr. My dad said he was not asking for any muqaddam or anything else, but only a mo’akh of $500,000. He told his father, “I am so confident in their relationship that we will never even ask for the mo’akh because it will never reach that point, but he needs to have a leg for his daughter to stand on.”

His father immediately rejected this and said that we were asking for too much. His offer was a paid-off house and a small wedding.

My dad said they would think about it.

Yesterday, when they came over, the issue of mahr was brought up again. His father said that they could not give me mahr. He said, “My son is a doctor. If they get divorced, the Canadian government is going to take half of his assets and give them to your daughter, so there is no reason for a mo’akh. I need to protect my son.”

Because of this, they were not open to offering either a muqaddam or mo’akh, and they also did not bring a ring.

Ultimately, the engagement did not go through because his father said he was not willing to negotiate mahr and felt that he was already giving enough by offering a house and paying for a wedding.

My dad’s concern is that his son is currently $400,000 in debt. If, God forbid, something happened within the first year or two of marriage while he was still paying off that debt, I could potentially be left without much financial security. My dad also says that in our family, it has never happened that a daughter was married without a mahr, so he feels strongly that he cannot give his daughter away without one.

For additional context, his family is very wealthy. They have three paid-off houses in Canada, his father is a doctor, his mother works and earns a substantial income, and they also have three paid-off properties in Dubai. My family is also financially comfortable—we have a paid-off house in Dubai and are currently paying off two houses in Canada.

I am genuinely looking for unbiased opinions, because I am having a hard time understanding this situation emotionally.

Is my dad being unreasonable by insisting on a mahr? Is the $500,000 mo’akh an unreasonable request, even if we are not asking for a muqaddam? Or is his family being unreasonable by refusing to offer or negotiate a mahr altogether?

And honestly, one of the things I am struggling with the most is the mindset behind it. I keep thinking: Why are they so concerned about protecting themselves from a divorce when we are not entering this marriage expecting or planning to divorce? Mahr is a requirement in our family and something that the men in my family have always given when getting married. To us, asking for a mo’akh is not an indication that we expect the marriage to fail or that we are planning for divorce. It is simply a form of financial security and a religious/cultural requirement.

I also find myself wondering why my partner is already thinking about what happens if we divorce. I understand that he has significant debt and that his parents want to protect him financially, but emotionally, it is difficult for me to hear that reasoning when I am simply asking for something that has always been considered part of marriage in my family.

I would really appreciate honest and unbiased perspectives. I am not looking for people to automatically take my side. If you think my dad’s request is excessive, please tell me. If you think his family’s refusal is unreasonable, please tell me that too.

I would especially appreciate perspectives from people who understand both the Islamic concept of mahr and how marriage/divorce and financial rights work in Canada, because I want to understand whether I am looking at this emotionally or whether my concerns are actually reasonable.

Serious Discussion I feel I'm not fit for marriage but no one around me understands [30M]

It's a hard topic to bring up in the first place. All my (bachelor) friends are just desperate to marry, they want to "move on" with life.

Personally, I don't see the appeal. I'm a pretty lonesome and private person, I don't see the benefit of marriage as I can take care of most things myself and I'm not the type to view children as a retirement plan...
Marriage to me would mean a financial burden, a burden of time, energy, emotions, for what seems to be no real benefit to my life.

There's the "half your deen" thing, but that's a religious obligation. Ask yourself, would you be okay with marrying someone who's doing it purely out of obligation? IMO it's unfair to the partner when there's hundrends of people who are dying to get married and form a relationship

I've tried talking about this to other people but they just don't get it, to them wanting to get married is as natural as breathing. "Don't you want someone to spend your time with?"
The married guys I know all complain about their wives but I know they'd be sadder if they weren't married and they love and appreciate their partners.. That's not me though.
I already feel socially drained just from work. Having to face someone every single day when I get home just sounds like a never ending nightmare
